Bob and the crew get the Roos to their new home. It’s not what they expected, and they raise a fuss. Andre has fun, until he finds out how the planet got its name. Then, a Roo explorer finds a whole other set of problems for Bob and the crew. Come along as our heroes try their best to make things come out right.
I’m a house husband. I keep things together while my wonderful wife makes our living. I’ve worked as a machinist, short order cook, electronics assembly tech, and several other jobs. My hobbies include vehicle maintenance, (I’ve had the transmission out of my truck. Twice) free flight airplanes, electronics, and shooting. I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and now live in Mid-Missouri.
My greatest disappointment these days is the moment I realize that I've finished reading a Bob and Nikki book! I love to read them - the characters are great, the spaceships are cool, the aliens are fun to meet ... but I hate to get to the end of them and realize that I'm going to have to wait for Jerry Boyd to write another one.
I know, Rome wasn't built in a day. Call me impatient. I want five more, so I won't have to feel like I'm out, cold turkey.
If you haven't read Bob and Nikki, you have a special opportunity in front of you. There are 14 books for you to look forward to. Start with 1, and take your time. You don't want to let yourself run out.
The storyline continues - same main characters, same universe, new set of problems - but the plot feels a bit thin at times and this book stops without resolving any of the primary story threads, so it’s not quite as satisfying as the previous books.
The series remains appealing though and I have no doubt I will read the next book when it arrives.
These stories are often a bit repetitive and long-winded, but this one seemed excessively so. If you removed all the ‘stock’ phrases and 'jokes' the book would be half the length. However it was still a decent read.
It is incredible to realize that Bob and Nikki are on the way to book 15. Each edition in the series is Better than the previous and the first was awesome. Read the whole series more than once
I love this series, and I have read every book. This was the weakest book in the series by far. Nearly no new content to advance the story. This book relied almost solely on the comedic interactions between the characters to carry the story. While that is usually fun, it can not carry a whole book. Especially as all the jokes are old and have been used almost to death. To the Author I say, more actual story or you will kill the series. First one of these books I got bored of and had a hard time finishing. Do Better!
Story is good, but too much repetitive dialog and patting Bob on the back
The first few books in this series I enjoyed, but the last few seem to have way too much repetitive dialog. For example when the characters discover the latest dastardly deed the Squirrels attempted to inflict on the Commonwealth the Captain, Bob, had to discuss what he had surmised what they were up to with half of the main characters. Not all together, but one at a time, practically the same page and a half of explanation to each one over and over and over. The other main grips I've had with the last few books is that everyone just has to utter pages of praise about how great a guy Bob is and how great a job he is doing as Captain. Over. And over. And over. Fully half of the dialog is made up of this repetitive crud. It gets boring after awhile. I wind up speed reading over this stuff until I think I have gotten to something interesting. The last few books should be called the Praise Bob books instead of the Bob and Nikki books. Other than that, I really did used to like this series. If the author listens and tries to change his ways, perhaps I will again enjoy them. (sigh)
After 14 books fans know what to expect; bad puns, obvious and obscure culture references from the 70s and 80s, lots of characters to lose track of, relentless action framed in enough consistto keep the reader oriented, love, moral dilemmas, and the good guys winning.
If you like that sort of thing, and I do, it's five stars. If not, it's drivel, but you would be wrong.
In many ways Boyd hearkens back to the Tom Swift books witb other stylistic nods to that whole genre of boys serials prior to the rise of TV. Thats not a bad thing, but it's a thing you have to like. I do.
Great stories, but still horrifically bad dialogue.
How often are we going to have to hear how great Bob is and how everyone around him-including robots-is in awe of his supposed ability to put complex concepts into simple, easy to comprehend formats, or to know what a teenager is thinking or doing, or to put 2 and 2 together and come up with, you guessed it...4? It's hard to read, this constant bowing and scraping to the genius that is bob. The dialogue itself is just...ridiculous. The children say things no child would ever say, the sheer stupidity of the robots is embarrassing.
For all that, I keep reading because the stories themselves are very good. I'm sure there are a lot of readers who can't stomach the juvenile writing regardless of the story, however. I wish Jerry would partner with an accomplished writer or go take some continuing ed courses at his local community college on fiction writing. If he ever learns to hone his craft, he will be a force to be reckoned with.
From book 1 on this story keeps evolving and continues to entertain. By now Jerry has developed his characters to a point that they seem to take on a life of their own. As he stated in this story it is easy to picture it like a movie in your head. It is one of those book series that keeps you waiting for the next in the series to come out. I enjoy the humor and fun because it takes me away from all the nonsense going on in America today. Thank you!
Bob and Nikki has been a decent trip, but the mileage has varied.
This particular episode started out very thin, and lacks the powered by Oz.
Likewise poor Taz has again remained off stage, and the band which should have expanded to George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic hasn't booked a show in a while.
Not rightly sure where the author is headed, but will ve along for the next trip.
I have downloaded both #13 and #14. It was impossible to read #13, and very difficult to read #14. The problem is that the book has no chapters or other page breaks. When my kindle jumps forward or backward 75 to 100 pages. I often have to search 30 minutes or more to find where I was reading. The search became impossible on #13 until I finally gave up. On #14 I promised myself "one more try" which was successful. I doubt that I will download another book until some chapters or other page breaks are put in the books.
Yes I know that kindle often inserts a "return to page ___" prompt when it jumps to a new location but sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, there is a long search (sometimes unsuccessful) required.
To say that I like this series would be an understatement of the greatest proportion. Having grown up not more than 70 miles away from where Saucer Holler' ought to be, according to the book's descriptions of the area, I have both met people like Bob and can affirm that the way he thinks about the help he gives, is as natural as breathing. His turns of phrase are just as authentic. Good People are good people, wherever they are from, and those who aren't, wherever they are from, desperately need their way of thinking adjusted. Two thumbs waay up.
Have developed a big liking for this series. OK, not the best writing style but I can forgive that, for the characters, the positive attitude, the lack of over the top violence, and for once everyone out there is generally friendly if you get past the prejudices.
Only 4 stars this time as the story is a little weak and does not go that far in plot development. Could have moved along a little fast, hopefully, will with the next volume. Also getting to the point that a new reader could find it difficult to get into the story and characters at this point.
Sticking with Bob for the moment and pretty much loving every word.
This was a good series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first few books and read them through book 13 because that was all there was of the series at that time. Fast forward a few months and several more books were available, so I bought them all. Book 14 has been stuck in the same place doing next to nothing for 117 pages. Some ships and houses are getting built and some robots got rescued, but I will have to start skimming ahead or just use this book as a sleeping pill.
Book follows its (now) traditional form. Still a few old rehashed jokes, but mostly new material. Probably needs a little more recent pop culture references since Bob's seems to be in his 30s or early 40s at most. Still a lot of fun to read, and we continue to see new things tied to Bob's being on the spectrum. Pretty clear this book is a transition from Roos to a new culture in the next book and probably a new BBG.
I don’t usually read a series that has this many books to it because after three or four the stories usually become unbearably repetitive.
I love the Bob Nikki series because while the characters may encounter troubling events on their adventures, the books are still always about good people trying to remedy bad situations.
In the end, the Bob and Nikki series always picks up my spirits!
This series is quirky, quick, and fun. This volume is weighed down by forced tension cluttering the pages and slowing the action, padding things by about fifty pages. Bob reveals undiagnosed psychic powers in the form of "bad feelings" that clutter the text with stress and maudlin. I spent as much time slogging through this one volume as I spent on the previous three volumes. The told-not-shown impending threat really cut down the fun.
This story series is so good all you want to do after finishing one is Cuss the Author out for taking so Long to publish the next one. These stories are so good, full of humor and smart action as well as being an adult story that you don't have to worry about who finds them.
NOW I NEED PHYSICAL version of these books to give to some friends
More that's what I have to say. AWESOME FUNNY and Great to reread or listen to series again and again. Just need hardback or softback copies to gift to friends. Who won't read unless they have a real book to hold to read. Keep the Future additions coming and we'll keep you employed for life!!!!!
Once again Jerry Boyd has written such a good story, I ran out of book before I thought it should be over. After reading each one, you would think I could tell when I was nearing the end of the book. Alas no.
The Squirrels have a lot to to explain and where do they get off calling humans names? Silly rodents, Bob will figure it out.
As I read this story there was a point that the storyline hinted, at least to me, that trouble was brewing for Bob and his crew, I was glad there was a lot of book left to prove me wrong. Now comes the hard part, waiting for the next book!
These tales have been a morale saver this year. The crew finds new aliens sorta, there is ominous dangerous places to explore. Its just fun and a relief to relax and enjoy. I highly recommend you read this series, and I highly recommend you read them in order. Have fun!
The backward planet that produces beings with such morals is exciting. Then mixing idioms in the mix just makes all the adventures that much more captivating. I can’t wait for the next book. Whiz’s me off having to wait, checking kindle for the announcement of its release. Sometimes multiple times a day.
Just another great story added to the series. It always seems to get read rather quickly and now I have to wait for the next book to come out in a few... Not that I am complaining because for the life of me would not know how long it takes to write a book or even prepare to write one. So I will be patient and get it when comes.
The style and pace of the series gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect as you approach the end of a given book. It was clear we will have to wait for book 15 for the current collection of plot threads to weave themselves into a clear picture. Stick with it, it's worth it.
Another great B&N book, filled with Snits and giggles.
This times things get a little dicey for our crew when they discover things they didn’t know, but that might definitely hurt them. More action than previously seen, and more interesting situations too. Gotta love it. Definitely recommended (15+)
Mistakes: Didn't find anything wrong with this book. Wasn't looking to hard either.
Plot: Helping a bunch of left behind experiments get healthy.
Characters: Took me a bit to finish this book. Kept putting it aside to read other books. I think it's because of the dialog between characters. I just like more action.
Another good read and stay an I stayed at to 1 o’clock finish this book. I don’t see how the author keeps the storyline straight through .o many books in the series-keeps everything is trying how are you manage just to take a book from four and put it in book 13. How set up for to keep straight is incredible and detailed work the reader appreciates.
