The baddest of the bad boys…

Gabriel is a five hundred year old vampire with the soul of a Killer. He has defeated his mother in a battle for the territory of Baltimore, and vowed to take vengeance upon his father, the Master of Philadelphia, for a centuries-old betrayal.

Jezebel, Gabriel's new fledgling, is a soul as scarred as his own, yet Gabriel finds that the ice around his heart slowly melts when she is near. But one of Gabriel's ancient enemies has targeted her--and if Gabriel wants to save her, he will have to abandon his plans for revenge and join forces with his father.

The question is not whether or not Gabriel can redeem himself from his past, but whether he can ever forgive himself…

Jenna Black is your typical writer. Which means she's an "experience junkie." She got her BA in physical anthropology and French from Duke University.

Once upon a time, she dreamed she would be the next Jane Goodall, camping in the bush making fabulous discoveries about primate behavior. Then, during her senior year at Duke, she did some actual research in the field and made this shocking discovery: primates spend something like 80% of their time doing such exciting things as sleeping and eating.

Concluding that this discovery was her life's work in the field of primatology, she then moved on to such varied pastimes as grooming dogs and writing technical documentation. She writes paranormal romance for Tor and urban fantasy for Bantam Dell.

A born vampire and therefore not the most mental stable of creatures, the hero turns the heroine for the purpose of using her to infiltrate his father’s group. The heroine, born to a crack head mother and contracting HIV as a child due to dirty needles has had a very hard human life but identifies herself with the hero who's an outcast and a feared creature with seriously parents’ issues.

The hero is not a typical good guy. He is a Killer meaning he's taking human life to quench his thirst and he has a very unhealthy amount of rage inside but slowly as the book goes on you realize he's not all bad. He doesn't kill the Guardians though he very easily can-partly because of a promise made to his fledging and partly because he has a soul. He kills bad people-kind of like Dexter. The heroine is an innocence and despite her hard life she's compassionate and kind hearted. A virgin in mind only because of the gang rape that took place is the previous book, the hero takes her emotions about the incidence so she remembers it happening but is able to go forward with a healthy sex drive, something she couldn't have done otherwise.

"I love this Series!"

This is the third Guardian's of the Night book in Jenna Black's vampire paranormal romance series.

At the end of the last book "Secrets in the Shadows", Gabriel saves Jezebel by changing her and making her his fledging. He plans to use her as a pawn in his devious plan to end the Guardians and kill his father. It is only fitting since Eli tried to kill him centuries ago for being a born vampire. It was a well thought out plan and it should have worked, but there were a few little snags—His mother and his sworn enemy arrive in town determined to finish the job Eli started centuries ago. If this wasn't bad enough, his fledging has somehow managed to wiggle her way into his heart.

Jezebel was damaged long before she was brutally abused and left for dead from multiple vampire bites. Jezebel recognizes a kindred spirit in Gabriel—a wounded soul. She understands how it feels to be condemned because of circumstances that are beyond one's control. She sees Gabriel for who he truly is. Though he may not be a saint, he also isn't the monster he pretends to be. They share a tangible bond in more ways than one.

Ms. Black never disappoints. Gabriel is powerful, seemingly evil at times, but there are those simple acts of kindness that prove he is harboring a dark secret. Jezebel is his match and the perfect person to help Gabriel face his demons. The transition is cleverly done until the shadows that hide Gabriel's true character inside are revealed. You don't want to miss any of this series: Watchers in the Night and Secrets in the Shadows. Though each of these books can stand alone, I believe you will appreciate Gabriel's transition and redemption if you at least start with Secrets in the Shadows.

Best of series in my mind. I love Gabriel and Jezabel's connection. And the main storyline is wonderfully exciting. Filled with plots and switched aliances. It's action driven, instead of romance/sex driven which I like.

In the previous story, Gabriel wasn't a (to put in mildly) very nice person, but with Jezabel's influence the darkest soul can break. We get to see why he is what he is. They both have simular backgrounds and reasons for revenge, but Jezabel has to teach Gabriel how to control his. Her love drives her to ultimately making a great sacrifice for him.

Camille is just her own enemy. Always putting herself in situations that are fated to defeat her. Like Botolomeo (awful name). He's the real villian in this whole thing. We learn 'alot' about Eli: his background and motivations. Brigitte is the greatest surprise. Not sure how I feel about her, but we'll see more I'm sure.

Best part: Hannah and Caroline's contribution to the story.

This is the third book in Jenna Black's GUARDIANS OF THE NIGHT SERIES. I really, really enjoy this series. It's awesome! And with every new book, the world of the Guardians just gets bigger and better. There were so many cool and unexpected turn of events in this one that I can't wait to see what else is ahead. I do know that the next book will be Drake's story, and I can't wait for it.

I love redemption stories (having written one just recently myself) and this one didn't disappoint. Gabriel is a tough, bad guy but also turned out to be a great (reluctant) hero. And Jezebel was surprisingly strong, for a women who'd been through so much as a mortal. Put them together and wow! Explosive.

This is the only book of the series that I thought was worth the hours it took to read it. The story was solid. Gabriel is a hard character to like but eventually you cheer for him. I liked the ending. It was a wrap although the opening for the next book was there. I believe this book can stand alone from the series.

While I have enjoyed the last two books of this series I felt that the writer did some things in this book that I felt were unnecessary. I understand that she didn't describe in any detail the things that happened but I'm just not okay with that kind of thing in the stories I read. I was disappointed that she let that happen in her story.

I liked the first one in this series, 2nd one wasn't memorable, and I do enjoy other series books by the same author. Read 2 unpleasant chapters and realized I have better things to do.
