A portrait of death... Anna has barely had time to settle in at the Montford town home in London, when she is drawn down a new path of danger. When suspects abound, Anna must delve into the art world and the personal life of the victim, searching for the truth. Will the reintroduction of her employer’s attractive nephew, Jerome Townson, complicate matters? And will the stirring of old shadows from her past blind Anna to the dangers of the present?
Blythe Baker is a thirty-something bottle redhead from the South Central part of the country. When she’s not slinging words and creating new worlds and characters, she’s acting as chauffeur to her children and head groomer to her household of beloved pets.
Blythe enjoys long walks with her dog on sweaty days, grubbing in her flower garden, cooking, and ruthlessly de-cluttering her overcrowded home. She also likes binge-watching mystery shows on TV and burying herself in books about murder.

Volume 3 of a Pretty Good 1920s Period Mystery Series
Again, I am amazed how a murder mystery can qualify as "light reading." It helps to set the scene during the 1920s among upper class British elite who are mostly uncaring except for themselves! Then make the heroine -- of all things -- a MAID who has more sense than well over 90 percent of the inbred "upper crust" she works among, and voila! A series that sparks interest!
In this installment, our protagonist, Anna Fairweather, finds herself the unwilling witness of the murder of a portrait painter who was commissioned to capture her employer's likeness. Despite her employer's well-intentioned warnings about not trying to "solve the case on her own," Anna is drawn, seemingly against her will, into it. Furthermore, is there or isn't there an attraction between Anna and (gasp!) her employer's nephew?
Mrs. Montford has come to London for the winter, and Anna and the rest of the staff are still busy settling into the town home. While on an errand for Mrs. Montford, Anna is witness to a murder. As usual, Anna feels some responsibility to solve the crime, but Mrs. Montford makes her promise to stay out of it, for her own safety. Anna promises, and this time she keeps her promise. That doesn't keep her out of danger, and the conclusion is exciting. Interesting conversations at social events, nicely created situations where Mrs. Montford's opinions are made clear, and a family rift may be mended. One criticism: What the victim said to Mrs. Montford about the woman of his dreams doesn't match up with the motive for his murder.
AN UNINVITED. CORPSE....Blyth Baker Anna busy settling Mrs Montford into the London townhouse, today her portrait was being done. Mr Hill the painter giving orders to Anna was rude, and nervous, now leaving. Mrs Montford had a request so Anna gave chase to him. He turned the corner and she heard a scuffle, he had been murdered. Was it as a child Anna had thought of what she saw really wasn’t an actual happening. Looking in at the Art Gallery revealing to her it was not a shadow she saw. A murder of revenge of an unreciprocated love. A delightful story Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Murder follows Anna and Mrs. Montford it to London
Anna witnesses the murder of the artist hired to paint Mrs. Montford's portrait. During the days that follow, she attends different social functions with her employer, and learns more about the deceased and those who might have a grudge. All the while, the memories of her Father's death become stronger. I really like the writing style and thought out plots. Great characters who are believable and no nonsense.
This book and author are new to me but i kept coming back to the book to read it. It kept drawing my interest. It was very interesting. Kept your interest and makes you want to continue to read more about the characters in other books in the series. I cant wait for the next one.
I absolutely love this series so much! I love how each of these books are like a puzzle piece and I can't wait to see the whole picture. And I do hope to see Anna and Jerome together.
Artist Jonathan Hill is painting Mrs. Montford's portrait. After he leaves the house, Anna is sent running after him in order to change his return date and witnesses the artist's murder. Mrs. Montford's nephew, Mr. Jerome fears the entire household could be in danger from the killer. Could he be correct? Will Anna recall any clues from her surpressed memories? Quick, fun read with insights into London society of the time.
This Anna Fairfield Series Keeps Getting Better—can’t wait for the next book. So enjoyed the details of the London social scene around the turn of the 20th century from the grandeur of the women’s dresses to the venues of the various occasions. A fun read to determine the killing of an artist who had just left Anna’s employer’s home and then Anna witnessed his killing from a distance. I received an ARC from the author and I voluntarily write this review.
