This book is from the psychic visions series. The book starts in a philosophy course that discusses various what if scenarios. “What if there was a backdoor into your mind” was the topic for the day’s lecture. When two girls in the class die with no apparent cause, things get interesting. Abby and Harvey are the cops assigned to the case, but when the professor goes missing, her nephew Leon becomes parts of the investigation. Leon is drawn to Abby and the attraction is mutual, but will Abby take a chance on love? If you have read any books in the psychic visions series, you have met Stefan Kronos a psychic that works with the police to solve cases. Stefan tells Abby and Leon that the key to solving the case is to find out how their parent’s deaths are related. What I liked about this book is that Dale Mayer does a good job of tying all of these loose ends together with a surprise twist at the end. I love the originality the story and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Once again, we go on a journey into the strange and unknown.
Detective Abigail 'Abby' Cartwright is assigned to this case since she has the reputation of solving the weird ones. This one however is stranger than she's ever come across. She's also known Stefan for a long time, and he's helped her with some of the stranger ones she's come across.
This time it's the deaths of two college students in a lecture hall, that happens simultaneously at some point near the end of the lecture. Professor Gertrude 'Gertie' Milligan is shocked and definitely shaken by this occurrence. When Abby begins her interview there's someone else with Gertie. Her nephew Leon Wellington who is also a professor here. The one thing that is standing out is the lecture topic of What if and one scenario of if there was a back door to your mind someone could enter and influence you.
The University has had some bad press with a cheating scandal and was hoping for a few years without any further incidents. These deaths will certainly bring unwanted press back again.
I have to say I found Abby's partner Harvey a bit needy, as he stops by the next day apparently expecting breakfast. he lets her know about the video of the students coming and going.
Things become even more complicated when the go to speak with Gertie to see if she could confirm all of them on the video are her students and maybe identify them. Only to find her unreachable. Abby calls her nephew Leon, and he comes with keys. She also learns more about Leon as they try to figure out where she might have gone.
As things get even weirder, Abby's headaches start getting worse. Stefan has told her to open up more to her abilities and they would get better, but she's still in denial.
Leon does his best to help without being a hinderance even as he and Abby get closer.
There are many twists and turns in this one and every time I thought I had a clue, I really didn't.
I can't wait to see what Dale comes up with for this series next.
Leon and Abby's Psychic Connection! 3.25***** Spoiler Alert!
Detective Abby and her sidekick Harvey were called in to investigate the unknown causes deaths of two college siblings attending Prof. Gertrude Milligan's "What If " course. The two newly found sister's, Aimee and Sammie were the most recently killed by a psychic killer, who turned out to be Harvey the cop/ Leon's Abby's new love interest and former detective, half brother/ Gertrude's adoptive son from her incestuous relationship from her predatory , murdering brother E. Together with Stefan and Maddy's help, all three were able to kill Harvey in the same manner he killed Abby's parents, his mom Gertrude, and her fiancee decades earlier, Gertrude's sister and husband, the PI, the two sistets, and his father- the recently released Ezkel. His attempt on Abby's life was thwarted by Stefan and Maddy as they destroyed the blocks Harvey instilled in the young 8 year-old Abby. Bad cops suck, but bad psychic murdering cops are ten fold worse. A definite HEA for Leon and Abby with their special mental pathway and their shared common-in-law murder, Harvey.
Such a tortuous story path weaving back 20+ years, only to realize that Harvey should have used his ability for good and not evil. But one has to deduce if nurture , nature or a combination of the two, lead to his murderous anger and obsession of revenge against Gertrude. The writing style was so- so, but the editing was flawless. The theme of "revenge is a dish best served cold" flowed through this novel. While the ability and idea of humans being able to increase or lower their blood pressure and consciousness is known, but murdering another human by psychic blocks seemed extremely fictional. Harvey should have been grateful that he was given up for adoption to a progressively advance couple/ psychic mother, and not killed by Gertrude. A Fair, Not- Gravity defying read!
Since "Tuesday's Child" was released you have kept me captivated waiting for what is next! Ms. Mayer, you continue to stun, surprise, shock, (yes all synonyms of a sort but not meant that way) and most of, make me think! I fall completely into each and every novel of the Psychic Vision series, to the point nothing will stop me from the ride. Your writing and completely amazing thoroughness of each different "gift" and situation associated with it, totally blows me away! With each novel, I am so confounded, I simply have to think, and think some more. I am a person who believes there is more out there, but nor am I someone who believes everything thrown at us by many who have a "tingle" and try to convince people they are special. Yet this novel, this novel truly made me think. Energy can be controlled, the atom bomb is proof of that, so for someone not control the energy within a person... WOW... Lots of thought needed after this novel! But yet, I will be crazy waiting for my next installment of Psychic Vision series, as if this book is not still rolling around in my head, frankly making but hurt. Overthinking, it's a talent of mine. However, I knew if I didn't put something down now while my mind is still bent, I would do you the author a complete diservice! KUDOS, Ms. Mayer for entrancing me for years, and keeping me entranced as I wait about six months for my next fix!
Stellar and completely convoluted and moving! Ms. Mayer always delivers! If this is your first, ask for eCards and read all! You will simply be amazed!
Wow Dale Mayer, you really put me on a roller coaster with this one, If I could have read it in one sitting I would have, it is a real page turner. Professor Gertrude Milligan was heading a series of discussions for her philosophy group entitled "What if" , the current one was What if other people could take over your mind, during the lecture two female students died, the post mortem and forensics showed no cause of death. Homicide detective Abigail Cartwright and her partner Harvey would be leading the investigating team, the deaths were what Harvey called woohoo. Abigail had gained a reputation for having psychic skills which she refused to acknowledge but in the past she had been known to receive help from a psychic called Stefan. When Gertrude disappeared her nephew, also a professor and ex police officer, becomes involved, he and Abigale work closely together although she tries to keep him at arms length. As more murders appear to be connected, all with no clues Abigale becomes desperate, she doesn't want to involve Stefan but she may not have a choice. As the body count escalates the plot becomes more and more complex and twisted , Abigale still has no idea what is happening. I loved the complexity of this story, I loved the intensity when Abigail's life was hanging by a thread, I loved the twist at the end and I loved the blossoming romance between Abigail and Leon. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

What If... is an absorbing psychological mystery in Dale Mayer’s “Psychic Visions” series.
Dale Mayer has created a very complex plot full of convoluted twists and turns. This story will confuse readers as they struggle to figure out what the crime is, who did it and how they did it. She changes the direction of the storyline at the drop of a hat.
This story focuses on Gertrude Milligan, a philosophy professor, who appears to be the catalyst for some murders. During her latest class, which she titled “What If, two students quietly die without anyone noticing. To make it worse, their autopsies cannot establish any cause of death.
The characters in this book are fantastically complex. In spite of her young age, Abigail Cartwright is a crusty detective, who has a jaundiced view of people. Her favorite saying is “people will be people.”Because of this attitude, she refuses to depend on other people unless necessary.
Professor Leon Wellington is Gertrude’s nephew and is also a professor at the same college. He is very worried about his aunt’s safety and is determined to solve this mystery. However, Abigail discovers that Leon has a lot of secrets that could help her. So she allows him to work with her.
Ms. Mayer adds a supernatural aspect to the characters of Abigail, Leon and Gertrude. They all have psychic undertones that interfere with everything and everybody they are investigating.
Ms. Mayer weaves an intricate plot that takes her complex characters through a roller ride coaster ride that will leave her readers spellbound.
With a reputation for solving weird homicide cases, detective Abigail Cartwright is stumped when she is called to a lecture hall in the local university. During a lecture on the bizarre subject "What If..." given by soon to be retired, Professor Gertrude Milligan, two female students have died without any signs as to why or even how. Then Abby finds some old old cases which might connect. Professor Leon Wellington is concerned about his aunt Gertie. They have a shared personal history filled with tragedy and so to have her two favourite students die in front of her leaves her shocked and grieving. Then she goes missing. As the past collides with the present the killer starts to realise how close he is to losing everything. Can Abby solve this case before anyone else dies?
I loved this story which has a great mixture of murder mystery, psychic phenomenon and romance. I loved the way that the relationship between Abby and Leon developed and the steps that she had to go through in order to solve the case. I loved the twist at the end and how it wasn't so obvious who it was. I loved the drama and danger at times as well as the very forthright way that Abby has which definitely made her far more human (although I do wonder how that would work in real-life). Easy to read and understand. Contains some sexual content.

This is sooo good! All of the stories in this series are good, but I really liked this one!
The author infuses so many intricate details to make the reader believe and feel as though they are right there experiencing all the drama.
I respect Abby’s work ethic and determination to find every clue and detail to figure out and understand what is happening to these people. Her abilities are what will help solve the murders and make her feel like she is a normal detective following the clues and not someone who is the only one that has certain skills and can work these types of cases.
She doesn’t ever get involved with suspects, but with Leon assisting in the search regarding the disappearance of his Aunt, Abby is wondering if she is mixing business with pleasure. I enjoy Leon’s attempts to keep Abby in his life and his willingness to help her find his Aunt, along with any other clues related to his family history and the murders of his parents.
There are a lot of threads to pull with information surrounding the plots in this story which makes it all the more intense and exciting to read. I don’t want to divulge any spoilers to ruin this journey for anyone else. You will find yourself immersed in danger and mayhem as well as mind games that baffle and intrigue you. This is a joy to read, a real puzzle to figure out and one you won’t put down until you find out what happens in the end!
I had a feeling with this one, I was right to some degree though it didn't play out or be completely what I expected. The thought of someone having the power to do something like what happens in this story is scary, more than that it's freaky. The mind is a powerful thing, so is energy, combining the two in the hands of someone who wants to do harm simply because they don't understand the reasoning behind actions taken, well that needs shutting down pretty fast. The plot is twisted, intense and complex. It has elements that really do get you thinking "What if?", then it had me reasoning how do you stop someone from doing that if you don't know it's happening. The two main characters push pull through most of the story but there is also the idea of them slowly understanding each other and starting to care, thus getting closer so that when really needed both are strong enough to fight back and save each other. This really did stretch boundaries of the physic abilities or at least I hope that's all it was, unexplained murder with absolutely no evidence, can't wait for that to pop up on the evening news. Amazing story, loved having Stephan make appearances at times just to tease it along a bit. Loved it. Started 15/12/21 Finished 17/12/21
What if? What if there was a back door to their minds? What if somebody could access your brain and make you do things?
This series is one of my fav series from Dale Mayer, it's a paranormal suspense romance series, so I always excited with supernatural mysteries the book will bring and expected so much when starting it. This one started with unnatural deaths of two students in a class in front of many people, no one see anything, no suspicious person present, it's like their heart suddenly stop. Yes the strange mystery hit hard from the beginning, but then in the middle it's kinda dragging with repititions and the paranormal things kinda dwindling down, but when the mystery start to revealing and the paranormal strike again, I just can't stop. It does have some plot holes that a bit bothering me, but the action from Abby with the help from Stefan and Dr.Maddy (my fav characters in this series) made up for it and the banter between Abby and Leon make everyhting sweeter (Dale Mayer always write loveable characters). So overall, it's not my fav but I enjoyed it nonetheless and still recommend this seriees to anyone who's looking for a fast-paced paranormal suspense romance.
Detective Abigail (Abby) Cartwright has earned a reputation of solving the most difficult and mysterious cases. But when two girls are found dead in their class at the local college with seemingly no reason for their deaths, Abby has her worst case yet. And when their professor goes missing, the case gets even worse. Professor Leon Wellington is worried about his missing aunt who is presumed to be dead and working with Abby. Can Leon and Abby find a killer who has murdered before?
This is one of my favorite series and this book is no exception. I am always drawn into the Psychic Visions books and this one was especially compelling as it asks the question "What if?". While there were a few errors/typos, overall the book was well-written with well-rounded characters and an intriguing plot. The mystery will definitely keep you guessing and the romance is sweet and tenderhearted. I'm really looking forward to more from this series which the author keeps fresh as each book is at least as enjoyable as the last. I highly recommend both book and series which I think is best read in order, but can be read individually.
What If… by Dale Mayer Psychic Visions Series Book Twenty Professor Leon Wellington’s aunt, Professor Gertrude Milligan, was teaching a class and at the end, two girls were dead. No apparent cause. And then, Gertie, as he called her, disappeared. She was the only family Leon had left and he was going to do all he could to find her. Detective Abigail “Abby” Cartwright seemed to be catching the woo-woo cases lately. This one was really a big woo-woo. No sign of anything that could have killed these young women. Not only was that a big headache…but her special “gift” was giving her a headache too. Not to mention Stefan, who was always in her head urging her to learn how to use her gift. Abby wasn’t a very trusting soul. Being a cop could do that. Leon had been in law enforcement before becoming a professor and understood that. As they dig in to find a killer…they find that many things weren’t as they thought. I always enjoy the books in this series. **Sensual content and language https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Dale Mayer continues to deliver in this Psychic Vision Novel. As always she makes you think and ponder mystic and psychic phenomenon. Just like the title this book asks the simple quest"ion " what if?" How many of us have not asked that in one form or another? "What if" I could go back and change what I just did? "What If" a government could control the actions of another? Or for this book "What If" a person could obtain a back door into someone else's mind, either to control their actions or to kill them.
Because the books in the Psychic Vision series are all murder mysteries the detective in this novel who was well known for solving " whoo whoo" cases. Must solve the case of two students who die in a college lecture hall at the same time during a lecture titled "What if" As the body's pile up the detective in this book must open herself up to her own psychic abilities to solve the case.
Dale Mayer never fail s provide a great read. I can't wait for the next in the series.
I really enjoyed that Dale Mayer took time throughout the book to build the relationship between Abby & Leon making for a great HEA but also you really got to feel their chemistry was a natural thing that wasn't unnecessarily rushed.
The premise of the series of murders having to do with Prof. Gertrude's "What If" lecture series was something I truly enjoyed & over all with this book I really enjoyed the investigative aspects. How the author addressed the detective being pulled in so many different directions, how that can sometimes effect their work, how hard it can be for the families to not have answers and law enforcement unable to provide them with answers or update them to all the progress being made.... over all a read I recommend and will read again in the future.
Gertrude's "What if..." lecture is terrifying enough, but the deaths that follow and the nightmares Abby and Leon uncover will make you question everything and everyone you thought you knew. This book leans far more into a crime thriller, rather than just the psychic abilities and effects than other books in this series, it's a great mix of both and kept me hooked throughout. I really enjoyed seeing Leon and Abby work together, they begin as adversaries, but quickly realise that this goes far deeper than the evidence you can see. Leon doesn't trust Stefan and Abby avoids him at all costs, but sometimes there is only one man who can help and that man is Stefan. The outcome is shocking and completely blindsided me, leaving both Abby and Leon to pick up the pieces of their lives....together. I listened to this on Audible.
I absolutely loved reading What If . It was intense and intriguing from start to finish . Detective Abigail Cartwright . Is called to the local University to a lecture hall where two young women were found after a lecture dead . Upon investigating she meets Professor Leon Wellington who works there . During the intense investigation Leon and Abby are drawn together . They soon find the case is tied to other cases that involve their pasts . As Abby seeks answers danger grows closer and Abby finds she has to let down the walls she's constructed to survive and solve the case . This story is sensational , well written and kept me on the edge of my seat . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

Since Detective Abigail Cartwright was known for solving unusual crimes, it doesn't seem far fetched she is sent to the latest strange scene where 2 college students mysteriously died during a lecture on "What If?". Gertrude Milligan, the professor giving the lecture, disappears and her nephew Professor Leon Wellington, who teaches at the same University, is concerned about the event and his Aunt Gertie's disappearance. So the story starts and then it continues to develop at a rapid pace and definitely had me guessing throughout this development. I found this story very difficult to put down and thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their solving techniques. It had me captivated from beginning to end.
The opening scene of this book has you hooked and needing to know where things will go and how Detective Abigail Cartwright will solve who is behind the murder of the two girls as well as everything that occurs after and what's happening between herself and Professor Leon Wellington the nephew of the missing Professor. There are plenty of twists in this, with some that leave you slacked jawed when revealed as well as a few red herrings, great characters and the simmering feelings going on between Abigail and Leon. You are definitely not going to put this book down until you get to the end and after everything is revealed need a few moments to process it all LOL

Detective Abby (Abigail) Cartwright along with her partner, Harvey, have gained a good reputation for solving the woohoo murder cases. She is friends with and energy worker by the name of Stefan. They can communicate telepathically. Abby believes she has walled off all her psychic abilities and the feelings she gets when working to solve a murder are normal cop gut feelings.
This story really had me going and I ended up moving further away from the solution. There was one clue early on which seemed to float away and disappeared but occasionally popped into my mind but floated away again. None of the clues seemed to connect and WHAM they did. Really good read!
What a great book to start 2022 with, also this is one of my favourite series. Abby is a cop and Leon a college prof but also a former cop. He's connected to her case via a victim or two. People are dying, with no cause of death. What is the connection, not only to each other but to the past as well? This was one intriguing whodunnit, I had no idea what was going on, how or why and when I did...WHAT, no I didn't see that coming until the final second! Brilliant story, if you love a good mystery that is out of the norm then this series is for you.
What if a philosophy professor has a classroom discussion on different scenarios? What if the last discussion is on mind control? What if at the end of class two students are dead without an apparent cause? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is an interesting psychic mystery. I didn't know who was behind the deaths until almost the end.
Abby is a detective and is called to investigate the death of two students with her partner, Harvey. Upon arrival, she meets the professor (Gertrude aka Gertie) and her nephew Leon. Seeing that Gertrude is shaken up, Abby encourages her nephew to escort her home. However, shortly after she goes home, Gertrude disappears. Can Abby figure out what is going on before anyone else dies?
This is a good continuation in the series and an enjoyable read!
This is the best read of the series in awhile. It was gripping right from the start. The characters are complex and I was quickly rooting for Abigail and Leon. This killer has a unique method and the mystery kept me guessing right up to the shocking reveal! This has long been one of my favorite series by this author and this one didn't disappoint.

She is about to be pulled into her weirdest case ever when two students die without any reason or anyone touching them. The teacher will become a suspect until they disappear and it seems many cases may be connected. How will she get to the truth? Will she find out what happened? Who is behind it? Follow her as she investigates the case

What if...Someone had a backdoor into someone's mind? What could that someone do? Take away free will? Cause a victim to betray a loved one? Or, even kill? That's the situation Police Detective Abby and Professor Leon face when someone kills two students attending a "What If" college course without leaving any clue to explain how they were killed. The sexual tension between Abby and Leon is obvious. As long buried secrets begin to emerge, the body count grows and the killer moves ever closer. I love this series and I highly recommend it.
Abigail is trying to solve unexplained murders happening all over town with her police partner Harvey and unasked for partner Professor Leon. Loved watching Abigail's analytical mind working the puzzle while blocking her psychic skills. Fast moving and plenty of surprises kept me glued to every page. I loved it.

I've read all of these books and they are all brilliant, couldn't put not one down, I was on the edge of my seat with all of the reads, good descriptions into the characters, absolutely brilliant story lines in all the books, love all the characters or but the horrible ones of course, definitely would recommend to readers who enjoy these sorts of reads, can't wait for the next one in the series which is coming out in July, well done to the author amazing talent and imagination 😀
It was exactly who I thought it was. The reasons, however, were not at all predictable. I usually really enjoy these books, but this one felt a little sloppy. It begins with an interesting premise, then flails around until there's a couple big reveals, and nothing feels truly resolved at the end. I guess the lack of resolution is realistic in law enforcement (particularly where psychics are involved).

Abby and Leon find themselves tangled in a mysterious web of murder. Abby is the detective on the case and is chasing a murderer. Leon is comforting his Aunt after losing two students in her class. Now with his aunt missing and bodies piling up Leon and Abby work together to catch a killer before they strike again.
