The A Handbook for Amateurs is a general introduction to creating a historical record of any community or organisation. It is aimed at helping those new to archiving to find their way into this intriguing topic. It includes some common problems and their solutions, a chapter on Sources suggests various possible records already held as a basis to the collection, as well as sections on Audio and Video Editing, Document processing and other activities expected of the Archivist. It is intended to help circumvent introductory problems likely to be encountered with helpful suggestions as to procedures and methods of working. Based on more than 10 years of archiving, much of it in the Findhorn Foundation, Keith gives an introduction to the role of the Archivist in a community, covering a wide area of expertise and the likely skills needed by the Archivist. Suggestions are also included for fund-raising and financing the project with some of the common short-comings encountered.
