A SMOLDERING COURT. A DIVIDED PEOPLE. A WARNING FROM THE GODDESS.
With the Court of Shadows in ruins, Evelyn Wolfrik has one goal - to rebuild.
After an encounter with the God of the Forest himself and a summons from the Court of Light, Evelyn’s future seems anything but certain.
Leaving the forests, her pack, and fledgling Court behind, Evelyn travels to the white mountains of the Court of Light. Deep in the mountains, navigating not only a frigid court but also challenges and trials she never could have foreseen, she risks losing more than just her crown.
K. Rea is a part-time romance writer and full-time mom. When she isn’t writing or playing with her daughter, she’s reading and crafting. She lives with her husband and family in Florida.
A love of books began early, when a good book couldn’t be found K. Rea turned to writing. Though she has been reading and writing for decades, she has only recently turned to self publishing one of the many novels she has produced.
Evelyn Wolfrik has a choice to make. How can she help rebuild the Court of Shadows? In order to rebuild, she must go to the Court of Light and she never would have guessed what she and her friends must do.
This is the second book in the The Wolfrik Trilogy. Definitely read book 1 first in order to fully understand everything that happens. I loved the spicier scenes than book 1. Keep em coming!
This book was definitely fast-paced. Some much happens that it's hard to say exactly what happens without giving away spoilers. The way things all fit together and people aren't who you think they are. The pack, the dragons, the loyalty, the vampires..you never know what's going to happen. I'm hoping to see more Triads and maybe some spin-offs with Bren, Mason, Ruby. How about everyone? 🤣
That cliffhanger..😍..I can't wait to see what happens next! Please don't make me wait too long! 😂
Wow! This book is full of excitement, torment, and beauty. The author does an amazing job at describing such a beautiful world where the paranormal reigns. I was transported to the Court of Shadows and could feel Evelyn gain power and control. Each character was so vivid and well thought out. I highly recommend starting the series and can't wait for the next book.
Definitely read book 1 first! This was the first book I picked up in the series and I realised right away that I was in Book 2 and missed ALOT. It took me a while to figure out what was going on and who all the characters were so definitely read Book 1 first. There is a lot going on with this story, Alpha wolves, Vampires turned Dragons (didn't know they could do that), witches, shifters of all kinds, demons and Fae - you name it - it's in The Shadow Queen. Very interesting take on the paranormal world, great dialogue and an entertaining story. I'll be picking up Book 1 to get the full story!
I am so grateful to have received this book in exchange for an honest review. I am so thankful for The Hatter Author Services and the author for the opportunity!
This is the sequel in the Wolfrik Trilogy and the characters are rebuilding after the dramatic ending of the first book in the series. The author leads us right into the action and the drama of this world and it was thrilling. There was so much action and drama packed into this sequel and it was a truly fun roller coaster to read and I finished it in three hours.... Yeah it's so insane. This book started off with such a bang and kept going and going and going until the very last page. Not only was it action, but the author just threw more and more twists and turns into this roller coaster that I will be calling my doctor for a wicked case of whiplash!
The story and the book world is oh so interesting and I loved it, but the characters can sometimes be a hit and a miss for me....
I like Evie a lot and I find her to be extremely powerful and a compelling character, but her dialogue could be so cheesy sometimes. I just didn’t understand some of the things she would say and her dialogue just seems too timid that it almost seems to be like it's coming from another character. I also thought that some of the things she said seemed a little ridiculous or just not necessary so that kind of annoyed me just a tad. However, I really enjoy her character and I can’t wait to see her become more and more developed.
Sooooo.... Aiden and Ares.... hmmmmm. I was such an Aiden fan in the first book, but this book.... He kind of bored me. No tea, no shade of course. I just feel like his and Evie’s relationship has sort of fizzled for me and I’m ready for Ares to just swoop in there and get some because he has intrigued me from the very beginning... MORE ARES PLEASEEEEEEE. Sorry Aiden... your banter is no longer good here.....
The side characters are what really stole the show for me; however..... I am so intrigued by Ruby’s story with those sexy lions and Bren and Maverick.... I NEED ALL THE TEA HONEY! (Sorry, I’ve been watching a LOT of Rupaul......)
Overall, this book was just a fun and magical read and I can’t wait for the next installment to the series.
4.5 stars! This is a THRILLING sequel in the Wolfrick trilogy. Chock full of action, The Shadow Queen is the paranormal/ fantasy romance that you will need to read, and then read again, because K. Rea has painted such a detailed storyline that had me utterly riveted with each new page.
This is not one book to miss for fans of shifter romance, dragon romance, or women who hold all the power!
25 year old Evelyn Wolfrik is now known as “The Shadow Queen,” and there’s more pressure on her than ever. If she wants to be recognized as the queen of the Court of Shadows, she must gain acceptance from the other Courts. Directly after a warning from the Goddess herself, Evelyn receives a summons from the Court of Light. Along with Aiden, her mate, Ruby, the werewolf captain of her guard, and Becca, her handmaiden, Evelyn makes the journey to the Court of Light. She is also accompanied by Princess Bren, the Court of Light’s heir, and Prince Ares, a Court of Light General… as well as Aiden’s twin brother. Will Evelyn pass whatever tests the Court of Light will have for her? Find out in “The Shadow Queen” by K. Rea, the second book in the Wolfrik Trilogy!
Okay, so I love this book even more than the first one! Evelyn is really growing into herself. She is strong and sassy and confident, and I am here for it! Aiden was amazing as usual, and Ares!!! *swoons* I don’t know which one of them I love more. There were some crazy plot twists thrown in, and Rea had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! And the cliffhanger at the end made me want to let out an audible screech. I cannot wait for book three!
Thank you to the author KRea for a ARC copy of the above book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I had seen this trilogy advertised on Facebook and Instagram and decided to take a punt on the first book “The Moon Shadow” (please see previous review) when I realised that the author was looking for ARC reviewers I knew I had to immediately sign up!
The story picks up where the first ends, initially I felt it was a little slow in picking up but once it did… wow! Action packed story with steamy scenes and hot male characters. There is also a lovely sub-plot of female solidarity and camaraderie.
A fast moving storyline held me gripped as I blitzed through the book enjoying it immensely!
My favourite quote has to be: “ “What book doesn’t like to be spread open and devoured?” “I’m a voracious reader,””
There’s also an accompanying playlist on Spotify & I am a sucker for a good playlist!
I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the third.
The Shadow Queen is the second book in The Wolfrik trilogy so make sure you read The Moon Shadow first otherwise it won’t have the same impact. I was so scared to read this especially after the cliffhanger in the previous book that absolutely destroyed my heart but it turns out this book was everything that I needed and more.
The author has done such a fantastic job at building such a vivid and intriguing world. All of the characters are really interesting especially the secondary ones and I would definitely love to see them have their own stories.
Another book and another gut wrenching cliffhanger. I can’t wait to find out how this trilogy ends.
Amazing sequel to The Moon Shadow!! This book picks up with Evelyn and her new court figuring out how to work together.
It's dramatic, full of twists and turns, and I loved every page of it. The introduction of Triads definitely had my interest, and I can't wait to see how K. Rea develops this part of the plot.
The side characters all had great stories and interactions and Evelyn really fell into her role as a new "queen" in this book and found her power. Plus, like, she has fire hands so I meaaaannnn how much cooler can you get
WOW! The Shadow Queen picks up right where The Moon Shadow leaves off. It is very important to read The Moon shadow first as it is the first book in this trilogy. Evelyn faces many trials and tribulations with in these pages. We get to watch her grow and find herself within the court. As she is figuring out how to be queen they are called to Court of Light where a new set of trials is tossed her way. This book is action packed, fast paced, and does not disappoint. I loved getting caught up with the characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting many new characters. I am looking forward to the final book in this trilogy and I am hoping the tension between Evelyn, Aiden, and Ares plays out like I hope! Yes I understand that this review is vague, but I do not want to give anything away. Just know if you enjoy a good fantasy/shifter storyline than you will enjoy this series!
This was the second book in the Wolfrick series and it did not disappoint! We rejoin Evelyn as she continues to discover her true path as leader and mate after the events from the previous book (trying to avoid spoilers!). You must read the first book to get the full impact of The Shadow Queen, but it’s worth it to meet all of the side characters that I HOPE will someday get their own spin-offs.. a girl can dream! There is everything you could hope for in a paranormal romance; spice, pack tension, fated mates, Court drama, Hunger games style trials… I could keep going but the point is.. this IS the next paranormal romance series you need to add to your TBR!
This book is the second in the Wolfrik trilogy. It is such a great read. I couldn’t put it down. It is full of action and the story sucks you in. I am loving the characters and how they are developing. I love Aiden and Ares. They are so different and yet can be similar. I can’t wait for the final book.
I received an advance reader copy of this book for review.
The Shadow Queen is a great second installment! Lots of action, sexual tension (don't break my heart Kirstyn), hints of what is to come not only for the main characters but the side characters too! I'm looking forward to book 3 and all of the spinoffs to come! Oh, and that cliffy- so cruel!
As this is book 2 in a trilogy I would say first of all to make sure you have read the first book as they do follow on.
I liked the way this book was written. It's very fast paced, witty and a lot happens throughout. The characters are written well and even though there are alot of them it's still intriguing to read and learn more about them as the story unfolds.
This has romance, action, sexual content, shifters and if you are a fan of books in the fantasy or paranormal genre then this is something that is worth checking out.
In my Covid fog brain, I downloaded the first book in this series not paying attention to the fact it is a trilogy and that the LAST book has not been released, so you can imagine my disappointment when this book was released well over a year ago, and there is no sight of the final instalment, I hope the author is okay.
The story continues between Aiden and Evie with the introduction of Aiden's twin brother Ares, while a lot goes on in this book, it's also a slow pace between these three, I guess I thought that when it comes to finding your mate, your true mate/s it would be an overwhelming, all too consuming, emotional experience and I don't get that through this author, for me, I need more intensity but that's a personal preference. The writing is good, I usually check if the book/s are complete in a series before reading them, my mistake was not checking and so I'm incredibly disappointed it's not. I wanted more information on Ruby and her sudden mates and also on Bren's story, are these just teasers for their own books?
Everything you loved about book one is back here again. I liked the starlight retribution that followed Evie's ascension in book one, it had purpose. Here though it's purpose seems to be purely about healing the other powerhouses so they can distribute the retribution. I'd have liked it better if her powerhouse was expanded on in an aggressive way, like it almost did in book one. I'm hoping to find that in the final book she comes to her precipice of being Goddess sent to bring the supernatural world to heel, something of which would've upped my 4 to a 5 star rating instead. Still a must read, only perhaps consider awaiting the final story so she can be viewed in her entirety.
Wow! This picks up right where the Moon Shadow ended. The emotional rollercoaster that Evelyn has to endure is equally felt by the reader sitting next to her in the first car! I love the story progression (by the way...read Book 1 first!) and the character development. The scenery jumps off the pages and entraps the imagination! And the cliffhanger? I don't think I have any nails left to bite! Cannot wait for the next installment!
Captivating paranormal romance with a rich setting. Genre: Paranormal romance, modern fantasy, vampires, shifters POV: 1st Person, past tense Heat gauge: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (4/5)
When vampires took over the Shadow Court, they exiled Evelyn’s wolf shifter family. Then they killed her parents. Driven by revenge, she single-mindedly hunts the vampire responsible. She did not anticipate getting caught by the dark prince, nor did she expect the sizzling chemistry between them. Yet when she finds herself at the king’s mercy or lack thereof, the connection she feels to Aiden may be the only thing that saves her.
These books were amazing! As soon as I finished the first, I simply had to move straight into the second. Now I can’t wait for the next instalment. The setting and magic lore are so rich and interesting. And the characters? OMG I love them all! I’ll admit it took a little while for me to warm to Aiden because he seemed too honourable for a dark prince. There were a few chapters there where I’d hoped Evelyn would choose his flirtatious vampire brother instead. But as the story progressed, Aiden’s character developed, and he swept me off my feet. Then we met Ares. Good lord that man is swoon worthy. If you are looking for hot book boyfriends, this is the place to find them.
All lovers of paranormal romance should give this series a go. You won’t be disappointed.
