Tuesday Collins has one dream and that is to become a mime ... and possibly have her crush, Beck Barber, notice her. But when a sudden, life-altering event occurs, those dreams are stolen and life itself is put on hold.
One fateful night, a spirit comes to visit Tuesday to show her that sometimes you just have to go on with life. But can Tuesday find the will to move forward and chase her dreams, or will she forever be stuck in the past?
Sweet and touching, this paranormal novelette will be sure to pull at your heartstrings.
I spend my days consumed by words and hoping to one day find my own DeLorean time machine. My life consists of avoiding migraines, admiring Bonsai trees, watching classic movies, and living with my husband and daughter in Texas—where it can be forty degrees one day and eighty the next!
Another great short story by this author who really knows how to get right to your emotions. Definitely gives you a sense of her style, but the range is fantastic. Highly recommended author.
Talk about pulling at every heartstring! Candace Robinson’s short story, BETWEEN THE QUIET is about as touching and sweet as it gets. Moments of youthful insecurities, secret loves, devastating losses and through it all, this one has more heart than tomes ten times as long as two teens take a chance on each other when they are both equally as vulnerable.
This one is sigh-worthy-sweet!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Candace Robinson! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Sad, but sweet and touching! Also, some fun moments. Loved it! Tuesday and her friend Francis like to perform as mimes, when Francis tries to set up her cousin, Beck, with Tuesday, things take an interesting turn. Tuesday is unsure of taking chances, but will find some help from an unlikely source. The mime angle was fun! A lovely short story!
This story was emotional and I'm not afraid to admit I got a little teared up reading it. Full disclosure, I had the privilege of working with Candace when she wrote this masterful story. She has such a unique talent of creating memorable characters. I love the lessons learned and the ADORABLE romance that just reaches inside of you and won't let go. Highly recommend!!!❤❤❤❤
Quirky? Check. Ghost love? Check. Mimes? Check!! Candace Robinson once again delivers a fun to read book with loveable characters, and this one has mimes??? What's not to love? I want all her characters to move into my neighborhood!!!
Such a big impact from such a short story!! A romance so sweet, so special, yep I was swooning!! And the main characters are MIMES!!! Ahhh...love that!! You know, trapped in a box, moon walking mimes!!! So so cute!!
I was lucky to get an ARC of this cool tale. Since I love short stories and ghosts this was a great read for me. Candace Robinson is an author who knows how to add quirkiness to everything she writes but still brings angst.
I want to start off by saying that I received ebook arc of this book. In return for my honest thoughts and review. This book is to be released July 7, 2021 I want to start by saying this a short story. But to me it didn’t feel like that. That’s what I like about Candace books. You get a lot or story and characters from a short story or full book. This one I will definitely adding to my December TBR. To reread since this a short story set around Christmas time. I enjoyed the characters. I highly recommend this book. About Book- Tuesday and her best friend are street performs. But Francis doesn’t show up one day to perform with Tuesday and all day she is worried about Francis. On that same day Francis cousin Beck walks by.
December 10, 2021 - December 10, 2021 I knew when I first read this book that I knew I had to read again. With it having some Christmas Carol in this book. I really enjoyed this book the second time around. Even through this a short story. Still didn’t read like one. Highly recommend this book. The characters are amazing. Even through this book will bring a tear to your eye. It’s amazing.
Short stories are awesome for a quick escape from reality, and Candace’s dark, romantic tales are a perfect choice any day of the week, and twice on Tuesdays!❤️
This was a very short book but really sweet. Similar to the Scrooge story but way sweeter😂...a cute short YA romance and a friendship that's forever.
"The one thing I want to leave you with is that you should always have confidence. And even if things might not end up the way you want, at least try going for it.” This was one of my favorite quotes from this book.
This was a beautiful story about friendship, grief and taking chances. Tuesday was such a great character, and I especially enjoyed her mime obsession. Francis was a lot of fun and definitely someone I would want to be friends with. This story hit all the feels along the way and the ending left me so happy and feeling full of hope. What a great read.
***I voluntarily read a complimentary ARC of this book.***
“Between the Quiet” by Candace Robinson is a beautiful story. An inspiring short tale on love and real friendship, which – just as life itself – unites disparate emotions into a single tale, there is fun, and sadness, loss and gain, despair, and happiness, but above them all there is friendship, pure, unadulterated friendship.
At first glance the story is distantly reminiscent of the everlasting Dickensian “A Christmas Carol”; However, this is a much more happily story. Tuesday Collins has two dreams, becoming an acclaimed mime and the love of Ben, who happens to be Francis cousin; the very same Francis who is Tuesday best friend and partner in the mime enterprise. Tuesday works very hard at attained her first dream, not so much at the second, as her own shyness come in her way. As Francis dies, the loss seems overwhelming, and the only person who could help her to come to terms with it, is her dead friend. Yet, real friendship isn’t bound to laws of physics and boundaries between this world and the next.
Despite the underlying loss theme, this is a very positive story, with a great message and perfect execution. Candace Robinson is easily one of my favourite storytellers, keyword being “teller” of stories, she has an uncanny gift to bring you into a story, making you part of it, and converting the story in one of your (always pleasing) memories. There is another aspect of Robinson storytelling, that sometimes is taking for granted, but deserves to be mentioned: whatever information background you get in the tale, is factual. It never ceases to amaze me, how very well curated her stories are. Like that old anecdote about Fellini in the “Ill Gattopardo (1963)” set, where he filled an old cupboard with historical (and very, very expensive clothes) to shot a scene; a cupboard that remained closed all the time, the audience never knew, but as Fellini himself pointed out “the actors do, thus the audience feels it”. Robinson always offers you factual information, you might not realize it, but you would feel it! And, just in case you really didn’t know already, you’ll learn some interesting facts in the process.
Such a great short story that captures so much emotion in a small amount of time. You get all the feels with a paranormal twist. And mimes. Who cant love that! I loved following Tuesday and Beck and finished the story with a smile on my face.
Weighing in at less than fifty pages this is easily the most emotional short book I’ve ever read. Less than twenty pages in I bawled my eyes out. About thirty pages in my heart was thumping with hope, a satisfying sense of closure, and lip biting suspense. Then, the ending came and I found myself cheering like some weirdo. My kids seriously probably thought I’d lost it… over a fifty page book!
Tuesday (I love this name) and Francis are best friends with a pretty awesome mime hobby that they’re both absolutely determined to turn into a success. Francis has a cousin named Beck that is utterly adorable. When an insanely impactful tragedy strikes Tuesday is left with a hole in her chest that no amount of words - or miming silence for that matter - can possibly fix.
What’s really cool is that the book takes a paranormal turn that is genius. It’s sort of a ghost of Christmas past and present type twist that takes Tuesday on an eye opening journey. What happens next is healing, fun and quite unexpected. I love love love the ending of this book!!! Never have I ever felt so connected to the characters in such a short read. I love Tuesday, and Beck AND Francis!! Do yourself a favor and read this book RIGHT NOW!! It’s quick, emotional, fulfilling and has just the right amount of shock! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I most certainly would!
This was a sweet story of friendship between Tuesday and Francis. The way that they looked out for each other and shared interests was beautiful. Sometimes, a new friendship (or more) comes at the right time. After a traumatic event, we see where this new friendship becomes even more important. I love the "Christmas Carol" twist in the book.
This was my first book by Candace Robinson. I can't wait to read more of her books!!
The narrator did a phenomenal job.
Both the author and narrator made me feel really connected to this story.
This is such a great short story. Has a bit of romance mixed with supernatural. Just wonderful. Even with this short story you get to know each character very well. I would definitely recommend reading.
The cover didn't prepare me for the sweetness of this short, little (clean) YA (supernatural--spirit/ghost/astral projection-style) romance. If you've ever had a school crush or hoped to/wanted to ask someone to a dance, you'll be able to relate. This was a cute story that was well narrated.
There is a lot of depth in this short and sweet YA story. I love the way Candace Robinson reimagines all my favorite classics. I'd have never considered that the thing The Christmas Carol was missing was some modernization and mimes, but she pulled it off and I loved it!
This was a good short story. With an emotional storyline that is written well. The characters were likeable but I would of liked to know them better. Excellent performance.
Between the Quiet by Candace Robinson is a sweet PG13 paranormal romance with a nod to Charles Dickens and takes about 75 minutes. I read it in the Adamant Spirits Anthology.
If you've followed my book reviews for a while, you've probably noticed a number of Candace's stories on my reading list. I love her mixture of horror or spookiness with lighter storylines. This short story was no exception!
Tuesday is a high schooler who likes to stand on the street corner on Saturdays and be a mime for tips with her best friend Francis. I really loved how Candace digs into the history of mining and shares famous mimes--who do come into play later in the story.
I don't want to say too much for fear of spoiling things, but it has some major Christmas Carol vibes but with a twist! It's such a perfect blending of dark and sweet, and I absolutely can't recommend this story enough!
A sweet holiday story with a beautifully gothic twist.
