70 quick-fix weeknight dinners and 30 luscious weekend recipes that make every day taste extra special, no matter how much time you have to spend in the kitchen--from the beloved bestselling author of Once Upon a Chef.
"Jennifer's recipes are healthy, approachable, and creative. I literally want to make everything from this cookbook!"--Gina Homolka, author ofThe Skinnytaste Cookbook
Jennifer Segal, author of the blog and bestselling cookbook Once Upon a Chef, is known for her foolproof, updated spins on everyday classics. Meticulously tested and crafted with an eye toward both flavor and practicality, Jenn's recipes hone in on exactly what you feel like making.
Here she devotes whole chapters to fan favorites, from Marvelous Meatballs to Chicken Winners, and Breakfast for Dinner to Family Feasts. Whether you decide on sticky-sweet Barbecued Soy and Ginger Chicken Thighs; an enlightened and healthy-ish take on Turkey, Spinach & Cheese Meatballs; Chorizo-Style Burgers; or Brownie Pudding that comes together in under thirty minutes, Jenn has you covered.
With more folks returning back to offices and kids back to school, simpler meals are back on the table. Sourdough, no! Lasagna Soup with Ricotta Cream, yes! While a majority of the recipe are designed for weeknight preparation, there are 30 designed for more leisurely weekend brunches, family feasts, and lavish desserts. Things I really liked - a whole section devoted to meatballs, the cheater Ciabatta Pesto Pizza, and Make-Ahead/Freezer Friendly instructions for every recipe. While most of the recipes have a ring of familiarity, you'll be glad you're reminded. As for desserts? The Cherry Ricotta Cake using frozen cherries offers summertime flavor no matter the season. For home cooks looking for a little inspiration and flair with limited time to get dinner on the table.
This sequel cookbook is just as amazing as the first and I am so excited to cook more! I’ve already tried 3 new recipes since buying it last week and about to try another couple this week. I just feel like the food in here is simple and delicious and totally my style. I will recommend this to anyone and everyone looking for a new cookbook!!!
Also I really appreciate that Jen includes metric measurements alongside US because I use a kitchen scale and prefer measuring that way
Jennifer Segal is a busy mom so she created this cookbook to help families get meals on the table during the week. The Weeknight meals are a little faster and easier to throw together when everyone is home from work or school. The Weekend meals are when you might have more time to work on a meal or for something special. Most of the recipes looked easy to follow with no weird or random ingredients. There were a few I'd like to try as well.
yet skimming both her books, impressed me you expect nothing too special without any high powered reviews or things like 'quick-fix dinners ' or lasagna dumped into a soup
she's really good if you look carefully at every recipe and she feels like she writes the books for mothers who want to go from Betty Crocker to one step closer to Julia Child, yet being manageable

I’ve received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review. Segal starts off with an introduction to talk about what a typical day in her life is like and why she came up with these recipes to work with her lifestyle. She has broken the book into two parts, Weeknight Recipes and Weekend Recipes. I really enjoyed quite a few recipes that she had in both categories. I found some great meals to make during the week and the weekend plus they are super easy to make. She also includes such information as Mak-Ahead instructions, Pro Tips, Sourcing Savvy and much more. These tidbits are found in the margin of the book. Each recipe includes how she came up with the recipe and what her tasters have said. These are just some of the recipes that I tried and loved from the Weeknight recipes: Summer Garden Salad, Ciabatta Pepperoni Pizza, Sheet Pan Roast chicken, Grilled Italian Sausages and French Apple Cake. I also found a few favorites from the Weekend recipes: Buttermilk Pancakes, Old Fashioned Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake, Five Star Beef Stew just to name a few. A worthwhile cookbook to add to your collection.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Sometimes I love a cookbook for the pictures or the stories, but I'm not drawn to the recipes. That is not the case with Weeknight/Weekend. This is one of those cookbooks where I think I could cook every recipe. I started with the Sheet Pan Chicken and Pancetta Meatballs and (to my husband's delight) the Baked Ziti. Next up: Baked Salmon with Honey Mustard and Pecan-Panko Crust, Brownie Pudding, and Old-Fashioned Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake. I'll be interested to see how this crumb cake recipe stands up to my Best Damn Crumb Cake.
Popular blogger Jennifer Segal thoughtfully created a cookbook for the way many of us cook. Recipes are divided into two Broad time car worries: Weeknights and Weekends. Each section has the more traditional breakdowns soups, salads, mains, and desserts. I particularly like that that there is a photo of just about every recipe. I like to make sure that my attempt looks like what it is supposed to look like. With each recipe, the notes are very thorough but not intimidating or condescending. They include sourcing tips for unusual ingredients, substitutions, make ahead suggestions and more. I use cookbooks as a guide or a source for finding and exciting flavor combinations. Within Once Upon A Chef: Weeknight, Weekend, I found just that. The French Apple Cake will be making its way to my kitchen this fall as will the Vietnamese-Style Meatballs. A great cookbook for anyone looking to add a little something special to their kitchens Monday through Friday or on the weekends. As a home cook and collector of way too many cookbooks, I've learned that Jennifer Segal's recipes are the only ones I really need. This new cookbook is a collection of winners! The Southwestern Corn Chowder has become a family favorite with its delicate flavor and warming goodness. Jenn's Cedar Plank Salmon turns out moist & delicious every time and is in our weekly rotation. The Classic Cobb Salad with Dijon is a personal favorite. Saucy Sesame Ginger Meatballs make a tasty appetizer for gatherings. Latin Style Pork Roast is delicious and makes for great leftover sliders when mixed with barbecue sauce. Jenn's recipes are very manageable for the home cook and the results are always pleasing. I've gifted Jenn's cookbooks to family members and, when an amazing dish gets complimented at a family gathering, the response is always "Oh, that's one of Jenn's recipes". It happens so often that I think Jenn has become an honorary member of the family!!! So grateful that she shares her recipes and expertise. I truly recommend her cookbooks
This chef and blogger is new to me. When I received the cookbook in the mail, I was excited to read it. It looked appealing and a brief look at the contents had me looking forward to checking out the recipes. The recipes are easy to prepare and has some tips and and make ahead instructions throughout. The weeknight dinners are eye-pleasing and flavorful as well as the weekend recipes being more luscious. There were many recipes that looked so good and I have marked to make in the near future: Lasagna Soup with Ricotta Cheese, Muffuletta Salad with Olive Vinaigrette, Croque Monsieur, Ciabatta Pesto Pizza, Baked Ziti with Sausage, the Marvelous Meatballs section, Seafood & Sausage Paella, and the Latin-Style Roast Pork with Chimichurri Sauce. The recipes are family pleasing and not difficult to prepare. I highly recommend adding this cookbook to the family cookbook collection for flavorful meals. I do love cookbooks and this one does not disappoint. This is a book with great recipes for the non professional cook who likes to cook but still needs to feed their family in a limited amount of time. Great recipes with detailed instructions that make the recipes “doable”.
I gave this a two star because while there are things that look good in here most of it I don't think I would really bother to make or my family would eat. I only wanted to try about 5 recipes from here.
I like the concept of breaking it into weeknight and weekend to make it easier to figure out if it is going to take a bit of time to make or be quicker.
Lots of healthy, yummy recipes! I love the Greek-Style Shrimp with Tomatoes and Feta, the Sheet Pan Chicken with Artichokes, Potatoes and Carrots, The Sheet Pan Chicken and Pancetta Meatballs, and the Everyday Salmon. A lot of these recipes have become go-to weeknight meals for me!
This cookbook is absolutely amazing. All the recipes I have tried have been delicious and I’ve cooked 37 of the recipes, and not once have I been disappointed. Highly recommend, this is my favorite cookbook in my collection and always my go to for a quick delicious meal.
I recommend the soup recipe that was Chickpea, Lentil and Vegetable soup. Very Tasty! The sheet pan recipe with chicken thighs and vegetables didn't turn out as well for me.
