Moon #5

Skye Fall

Rate this book
Coming to a final conclusion with this Moon Series. Recap! This is a black urban fantasy fiction Novel. All her life, Jasmine has been groomed in Atlanta’s high society to be the perfect woman of wealth. Soon to be married off to Percy Hugo Milton to keep money circulating between black families, she realizes she’s stuck in a dead end relationship where he basically, “ain’t shit”. Money matters most, marriage is nothing but a business deal, and love is nonexistent in Percy’s eyes. Not to mention he finds her particularly boring, and uninspiring. Jasmine becomes desperate when she seeks the help of a spiritual guide. An eccentric witch named Delilah Skye who grants her three things she wants in life. Friendship, great sex, and true love. Yet, the reading doesn’t go as planned when Delilah informs Jasmine that everything she wants is hidden in the man she hates the most. Percy. After a wild drunken night in Atlanta a few years ago with some girl he never planned on seeing again, Homer Skye thought he had life figured out. He had the plans laid out to propose to his long time girlfriend Nasia Stewart, move her into a house, and start his family immediately. The all american dream. That is, until he runs into his one night stand, Pia Milton, and their two year old daughter he knew nothing about. With the Moon becoming full almost every night in Atlanta, things start to turn upside down as these two stories collide at the hands of black magic, family ties, and messy drama. Determined to find true love, Jasmine takes matters into her own hands by proposing a deal to her cheating fiancé. Pia has to come to terms with tolerating her child’s father, and the black magic that runs deep in his crazy family. While Homer struggles with the thought of this woman who lied about their daughter for two years, might just be the one he’s meant to be with all along. Fine This story contains a little magic, belief in the impossible, and a few other random things and people that make up the story. Might be some hood shit in here too, I don’t know. I say, just read it.

Great book just get the book and read it for yourself

I don't know what she had to take out or put in for the delay but the book was good. It held my attention the entire time and I did not want the book to end! I am not going to give specifics about the book because the author requested not to but I will say it is worth it. Now I need to reread the series to see if I missed anything. I hate the series ended but it seems like more books could follow.

The way Desiree closed out this group of novels had me clutching the pearls more than a little bit! The desire to control people’s lives leads characters to commit treacherous acts, especially within families.

Falling!!!

What a ride!!! These characters are engraved in my mind, body, and soul. I know this will be reread before the months out. This was a fantasea ride for me. A story that captured, love, lost, finding, and growth. Being able to grow together are apart showed in this ending of a great read. If you're looking for a beyond paranormal read look no further. Oh and I have a new boo, Bodie has got all my attention and I'm looking forward to reading more on this gangsta sea creature. Hunny, you wrote this book!!!

While a lot of people enjoyed the ending to the series, I—unfortunately, can’t say the same. I enjoyed the story line, but at one point it felt like unnecessary stories were added to the bunch for no particular rhyme or reason. While I like the water serpents, they weren’t relevant to the overall storyline Frfr. I just felt like the author just wanted to write a story on them but needed a way to incorporate it in this story because it wasn’t enough on its own🤷🏾‍♀️

This book skimmed a lot of the important parts of the story. Delilah, Jasmine, Percy—HELL, even Tallulah, Kayla and Akil deserved more screen time than Pia, Homer, and the rest of them. The story strayed so far from what it originally was about, that the ending just felt flat. Like it was all just a means to an end.

Delilah finally got what was coming to her and we barely saw her in this book or the last. But we’ve gotten chapter after chapter about Caroline, Ryan, and Michael😒. Caroline is very irrelevant beyond her ties to Homer honestly, if it’s not the Skye story, then she’s not important in this story. Ryan and Micheal could’ve been a short spin off story if so much time was gonna be spent on them. Especially because it ended so abruptly and was never thoroughly dissected.

Homer and Pias chapters just became irrelevant as well. After getting together, there didn’t seem for much need to continue their POVS, especially because Homer didn’t grow as a person and neither did Pia. Nothing truly evolved for them. I feel as though, although, he’s apologized to his family for the situations he’s put them in and for not doing his part, he still didn’t change much as a person. The way he is with Pia is just the way he is, in a relationship PERIODT. If the story were to continue on, I feel as though Homer would let a lot of stuff slide again and make a lot of shitty mistakes with his family—AGAIN. Homer is only “perfect” in a relationship, even then there’s so much Pia isn’t okay with Homer doing, yet doesn’t speak on it. We’re just stuck watching them play house and pretend they’ve got it all together now that Homer suddenly finds Pia oh so attractive and he’s smitten with her. There’s so much shit that Homer did and said and allowed to happen to Pia before they got together, that should’ve been addressed. Homer isn’t “Perfect”, he’s simply in love with you now. Had he not liked Pia or fallen for her, he’d have no respect for her, the same way he doesn’t with every other woman. Pia is also fake as hell and so is Francesca and Piru. But we knew this though🫢

While Percy isn’t perfect, he’s also always been him from the start of the story. We knew what to expect and he didn’t give the impression of anything else. While he did cheat with Jasmine best friend and he wasn’t right for that, I like the fact that it was during a time where Jasmine and Percy weren’t emotionally attached to each other. They weren’t even sexually active with each other. Which made digesting his wrong doing easier. Again, while he isn’t innocent, he’s always been real about his wrong doings and he’s stood on it. Not blaming everyone else for his mistakes(despite him constantly blaming Jasmine for his unhappiness before🙄) But they grew and continue to grow and every chapter we’ve witnessed him making up for his wrongs and doing better, improving himself. Can’t say the same for Homer and Pia🤭

Instead of getting unnecessary POVS I would’ve loved to see the expansion of Jasmine and Percys story. Along with Tallulah and Kayla. Especially because so much happened with them, there was just so much material that could’ve been added to them.

Moral of the story, at some point in the series, the story got ahead of itself and become more than what it was and not in a good way. Too much going on and not enough attention to what’s already going on.

(Also, not being able to give a good review for other readers is crazy. There’s so much people could say without giving away the plot🤷🏾‍♀️)

These people crazy

Ok so I’m glad that I got a finale. I’m ok with how it is ended too.
All of those characters to keep up with and remember, but it was worth it.

JUNIE Boy has me hollering every time he gets around them Skye’s and things start happening! The part where Fowler was having an encounter in the truck and JUNIEs reaction had me weak! I couldn’t stop laughing!
Also when Jasmine attacked Percy in the bathroom I hollered then too.
Them Carter Boys still crazy.
All I gotta say is LU!!!!! Ride or die!

So many questions were answered about family, history, origins, gifts etc.

Some people got back what they put out even though they were warned to stop. Some still haven’t learned their lesson.

Fantastic read! Make sure you check out the whole series!

Worth the wait

This book did NOT disappoint and was definitely worth the wait from beginning to end. I'm not going to lie and say that I am completely satisfied with the ending because it was so open-ended but I understand all good things must come to a close. Looking forward to what is next.

Have you ever been eating something so good and was down to the last slice, cookie, etc. and just tried to slow down the finale. That was me reading this finale. I wasn’t trying to read it all in one sitting and just accept it was over. Whew. This series just hit a lot of what I look for in a book. The fantasy was on point, the humor wasn’t forced, the ghetto was just right, the characters didn’t all sound the same, and Desiree kept it interesting but plausible. Sometimes because a book is fictional or fantasy, we’re expected to just take whatever kind of implausible interaction or storyline because it’s fiction. If they’re in a US city, I’m expecting some realistic shit that at least kind of matches the people from that place. If they’re mannerism is out of the norm I need an explanation like they’re from New York living in the south. Anyway, knowing we’ll get random updates about these characters is giving me peace of mind. Sigh, wouldn’t mind a spin off or some shit. Wink wink

Desiree has done it again. One of my favorite series that I've read. It was great to see how the characters have grown and embraced family and love. Hopefully, Michael can get his sh** together.

Love you

I am a faithful reader and reviewer of yours. One thing I can say is that, I fall in love with your books each time I read and you leave me wanting more. I love the fact that you’re unique and different. When reading this review I can only hope that this can be positive feedback. This last installment in particular was the first to actually leave me confused and a little thrown off. I do agree with some folks, one because I do feel like some stories shouldn’t have continued, which could have left room for Fowler, Delilah, jasmine, and Percy. Some characters like Pia, homer, Michael, and Ryan could have been touch ups. I love the fact that you know when you need a break, everyone does. I do wish though, that it could have ended a little better, or had spin-offs, but I do get the fact that some people get tired and when you do, hopefully in the future writers only get even better knowing when enough is enough, because reading for me is like reality tv for some people and I don’t like to get hooked if in the end the outcome isn’t at its fullest like their other installments.

unfortunately I read 5 books in this series

I gave this series the time because I do enjoy some of her other books that are written under a different name.

For self published books I usually don’t harp about editing but all of this books need to be seriously edited. Not just for grammar but to make them more concise. In some parts it seems like paragraphs are missing. Then the time lines don’t make sense and there are too many characters that go absolutely nowhere. They are not needed for the plot (whatever that was meant to be). About 30% million of these books could have been left out. Also, I tried listening to Hoodwinked but had to return it because the narrator couldn’t read.

The characters are all trash. Not only are none of them redeemed in the story but the way they are written sets them up to be irredeemable.

The men are all violent and abusive misogynist. The women are petty, conniving pick mes who spend the entire series convincing each other to stay with abusive men. All have of the characters have low self esteem and no boundaries.

This is one of the worst depictions of black family life I’ve read and the author tries to convince the reader that this is a good family filled with good people who make mistakes. It filled with no apologies needed let’s just move on, apologies with no change in behavior. None of these characters got to experience what a healthy relationship or family life should be like and none of them escape the nonsense. They all just stay.

The physical description of all of the characters except for one or two made them all sound unattractive. It almost like she didn’t have a clear vision for any of them. It also bothered me that all of the sexual interactions were written poorly and seemed painful or unpleasant. And who writes a main male character that is bad in bed? The main female character was described throughout the first 3 books as fat and bad built.

It was all just bad. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue the series I did like.

I was debating between four and five stars. On the one hand, I have loved reading about the Skye family. No matter how many times they piss me off and/or make me feel like I would never be able to forgive them. However, this last book was a little more chaotic than the other ones I feel. I notice the author often times has so much she wants to say about the characters, that sometimes the story feels either slow and just mundane to chaotic and rushed. Especially towards the end. There were characters and/or family members that I didn’t know, that must be from other books, and so those chapters I just read without really understanding who was who. Also, some of the magic was a little hard to understand and felt like an idea that didn’t have a lot of time to develop. For example, Adora and how everything went with her and Fowler. I either need a book with them or at least a novella. I was so confused on how that whole thing with the rapper and Ben had anything to do with each other. I wish we could have had more clarity with that. I wonder if it will be addressed in the other series about the Skye sisters. Overall, it was still a good read and I really enjoy books from this author. I rarely finish series so that says a lot about the authors storytelling. It truly is amazing!!! I can’t wait to read what ever else this author writes!!!

Skye Fall

It took me the longest time to read this because these people has had my interest forna really long time. I absolutely love Percy and Jasmine, they have the love that can't be denied. They went through sooo much but in all honesty it made them closer and love stronger than ever. Homer came down a few notches but honestly it took alot for him too as well. Pia is his truth for sure. She let him know how he was coming off when everything hit the fan. The Delilah situation just shows you can't mess with peoples lives and think it will end good for you. The same person she manipulated she needs her help now but it's like you could see it coming. Still love Lu and Kayla for sure. What I liked a lot was how Damien came to his senses. He needed that push from Bodie even though it was really towards him. Ryan is my girl for real and Michael will be up for one hell of a fight if he thinks for one minute he can mess up her happy ending. This series was about standing up for yourself and not taking any ish that people throw your way. You do what makes you happy and let the chips fall where they may. I would love a story about Fowler and Adora, I can see them being funny but cute in the way he is scared of her but infatuated as well...

Whew… Sky Fall was a ride. Honestly, the whole Moon Run series is the definition of messy—and this book kept that tradition going strong.

Let’s be real: most of these characters? Annoying. Like… impressively so. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be Jasmine. She had her moments where I wanted to shake her for letting people walk all over her, but in a sea of chaos, she stood out as one of the less exhausting ones. And to her credit, she did finally come into her own… even if it took forever to get there.

Surprisingly, one of my favorite scenes was Fowler’s “real” date. Now Fowler? He’s weird—and that’s me being polite. So when he suddenly flipped the switch and acted like a regular person for once? I was shocked. Growth? Possibly. Possession? Maybe. But I wasn’t mad at it.

I also really liked the ending scenes—especially the new Moon Run ceremony and that final moment between Jasmine and Delilah. That was needed before this series ended!

All in all, this book (and series) is messy, magical, and full of wild moments that kept me flipping pages even while side-eyeing half the cast. Not gonna lie, it gave me a headache from the start but I’m sad this is the last for this series.

If you like drama with a sprinkle of fantasy, this one’s for you.
