While a lot of people enjoyed the ending to the series, I—unfortunately, can’t say the same. I enjoyed the story line, but at one point it felt like unnecessary stories were added to the bunch for no particular rhyme or reason. While I like the water serpents, they weren’t relevant to the overall storyline Frfr. I just felt like the author just wanted to write a story on them but needed a way to incorporate it in this story because it wasn’t enough on its own🤷🏾♀️
This book skimmed a lot of the important parts of the story. Delilah, Jasmine, Percy—HELL, even Tallulah, Kayla and Akil deserved more screen time than Pia, Homer, and the rest of them. The story strayed so far from what it originally was about, that the ending just felt flat. Like it was all just a means to an end.
Delilah finally got what was coming to her and we barely saw her in this book or the last. But we’ve gotten chapter after chapter about Caroline, Ryan, and Michael😒. Caroline is very irrelevant beyond her ties to Homer honestly, if it’s not the Skye story, then she’s not important in this story. Ryan and Micheal could’ve been a short spin off story if so much time was gonna be spent on them. Especially because it ended so abruptly and was never thoroughly dissected.
Homer and Pias chapters just became irrelevant as well. After getting together, there didn’t seem for much need to continue their POVS, especially because Homer didn’t grow as a person and neither did Pia. Nothing truly evolved for them. I feel as though, although, he’s apologized to his family for the situations he’s put them in and for not doing his part, he still didn’t change much as a person. The way he is with Pia is just the way he is, in a relationship PERIODT. If the story were to continue on, I feel as though Homer would let a lot of stuff slide again and make a lot of shitty mistakes with his family—AGAIN. Homer is only “perfect” in a relationship, even then there’s so much Pia isn’t okay with Homer doing, yet doesn’t speak on it. We’re just stuck watching them play house and pretend they’ve got it all together now that Homer suddenly finds Pia oh so attractive and he’s smitten with her. There’s so much shit that Homer did and said and allowed to happen to Pia before they got together, that should’ve been addressed. Homer isn’t “Perfect”, he’s simply in love with you now. Had he not liked Pia or fallen for her, he’d have no respect for her, the same way he doesn’t with every other woman. Pia is also fake as hell and so is Francesca and Piru. But we knew this though🫢
While Percy isn’t perfect, he’s also always been him from the start of the story. We knew what to expect and he didn’t give the impression of anything else. While he did cheat with Jasmine best friend and he wasn’t right for that, I like the fact that it was during a time where Jasmine and Percy weren’t emotionally attached to each other. They weren’t even sexually active with each other. Which made digesting his wrong doing easier. Again, while he isn’t innocent, he’s always been real about his wrong doings and he’s stood on it. Not blaming everyone else for his mistakes(despite him constantly blaming Jasmine for his unhappiness before🙄) But they grew and continue to grow and every chapter we’ve witnessed him making up for his wrongs and doing better, improving himself. Can’t say the same for Homer and Pia🤭
Instead of getting unnecessary POVS I would’ve loved to see the expansion of Jasmine and Percys story. Along with Tallulah and Kayla. Especially because so much happened with them, there was just so much material that could’ve been added to them.
Moral of the story, at some point in the series, the story got ahead of itself and become more than what it was and not in a good way. Too much going on and not enough attention to what’s already going on.
(Also, not being able to give a good review for other readers is crazy. There’s so much people could say without giving away the plot🤷🏾♀️)
