Life After Breath: How a Brush with Fatality Gave Me a Glimpse of Immortality

Rate this book
Death, even for a moment, changes everything. In Life After Breath , Jacob’s near-death experience as a child ripped an opening between him and the spirit world. He lived, but was forever changed. As he grew, darkness and light led him on a roller coaster ride of turmoil, loss, discovery, and renewal. He now shares this mystical journey with those brave enough to explore the “other side,” understand the beings there, and hear the wisdom gleaned. He faces the question of the hereafter, looks at life lessons, and examines what a connected awareness can mean to the human experience.

Jacob holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Jacob is also a Certified Reiki Master, Certified Hypnotherapist, and specializes in Past Life Regression Therapy. As a psychotherapist, Jacob works with individuals, groups, and families in managing emotional barriers, promoting improved wellness, and resiliency. Jacob incorporates mindfulness and a spiritual approach to focus on the connection between the mind, body, and spirit. In effect, this teaches individuals how to improve their cognitive processing and shift their perspectives.

Based on his near-death experience and past life regressions, Jacob shares insight about the mystery of life on the other side of the veil. In addition to peace and euphoria in the afterlife, we also experience these feelings in the physical world; there is so much more to live for, as we are much more resilient than we imagine. Jacob’s experience also provides others with the opportunity to experience past-life memories, assisting in the development of self-awareness and finding meaning in their experiences.

Jacob provides meditation and mindfulness seminars to individuals and groups diagnosed with cancer, with developmental disabilities, and the aged population. Jacob has presented at the Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE), the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS), spiritual centers, universities throughout the world, and public libraries. Jacob’s seminars promote healing for those grieving and those who seek to understand continuity of consciousness beyond the physical body, and for those with anxiety associated with the fear of life after death. He is the author of “Life After Breath” a memoir on his near-death experience (NDE) published by Waterside Productions. His literary agent is William Gladsone.

Life After Breath begins with the astounding NDE Jacob experienced when he was just 3 years old that profoundly impacted his life. As he struggled with school, family relationships and his strict Orthodox Jewish upbringing after his NDE, Jacob often felt like "an outsider," and I found myself rooting for Jacob as I read, fascinated, about his incredibly challenging road to becoming the inspiring, evolved therapist and healer that he is today. I also loved reading about Jacob’s touching relationships with his grandfather, who unconditionally loved and mentored Jacob and his spiritually open Aunt Ceil, who guided and inspired him. You will learn about past lives, angels, spirit guides, the concept that death is a “rebirth” or “renewal” from crossing over and much more as you read Life After Breath. I highly recommend it!

Jake Cooper tells his story in such a clear and honest way. To have such a profound near death experience at the age of three and remember with such great detail shows the truth of his experience. The effect it had on his life at such an early age; the struggle to bring the elements of his greater awareness of spirit with the mundane concerns of this world together is inspiring. I know from personal experience at a young age with spiritual phenomena how difficult and lonely this can be. Jake is open and transparent about facing adversity and challenges by finding his inner strength and listening to the teachings of those he was mentored by on his journey. He recounts his experience simply and eloquently. He describes what could be deemed the fantastical in a pure and truthful way that grounds his message in reality.
The gift he was given of spiritual awareness has provided his light of compassion and generosity to help others. He has written a book that opens the heart and mind to the reality of near death experience and the lessons this teaches to live in gratitude in this world and bring love and light to our next journey in the afterlife.

I purchased this book because of a big interest in the N.D.E. dynamic. I expected to learn some interesting things about that topic and hear the author's perspective on it. What I did not expect was to come across such a compelling and well-written story. It was hard to put the book down as I was so very interested in what was going to happen next. The mystical and Spiritual aspects of the story were fascinating, unique and highly inspiring. Thank you Jacob Cooper for sharing your amazing experiences with us and for doing it in such a great manner.

Out of the hundreds of authors I have interviewed, Jacob Cooper is one of the most enlightened 'old souls," I have met. His book, "Life After Breath: How a Brush with Fatality Gave Me a Glimpse of Immortality," is beautifully written, and takes readers on a fascinating journey of his mystical encounters, and spiritual teachings. I was "hooked on his book," from the very beginning, where he describes his near-death experience as a toddler, to the present where he shares his truth, that there is an infinite light that shines in each of us.

What I love about Jake and his book is Jake's rigorous honesty about his relationship with his peers and his family particularly his father. His openness about his grappling with 'religion' and the expectations of his family to follow in certain footsteps. His story of his NDE from the age of three really gave the reader insight into another realm that is there when you choose to believe it and see it and actually feel it. We journey with Jake on his not 'fitting in' at an early age. He brings us through his interactions with kids in school and as a college age young man traveling abroad with such eloquence and with such openness. He tells it like it is; the rough, the tough, the fun times where he excelled in sports, his experiences good and not so good while being open to the spiritual ascension. His mentions of Stevie Nicks lyrics "I keep my visions to myself" really hit home for me and his mention of Eminem's lyrics made me identify even more. The death of his grandfather struck a heartstring in me as well. Jake is the embodiment of familiarity and becomes your friend throughout this book because he touches on the very things we don't really talk about.

I have studied near death experiences for almost two decades. One might think that after hearing and reading so many of them I'd grow tired of them or have learned all of the lessons from them. Neither is true. Each NDE is unique even though universal themes run through most, if not all.

Without too many spoilers, a few things made Jake's experience unusual. Jake had his experience at the tender age of three years old. Most of us cannot remember anything from this period of our lives. However, this is not unprecedented as other Near Death Experiencers, like Dr. Ingrid Honkala, have had experiences before the age of 5 and remember them quite clearly. After reading the book, I interviewed Jake for my podcast and he explains how this is not only possible but likely with traumatic experiences that etch themselves onto our brains. Also, as he points out, the brain is not involved in forming the memories when we are out of our bodies having these experiences.

Often critics of the NDE will say it's simply wishful thinking or we see what we expect to see. Again, without giving away too much, Jake was only three years old at the time of his experience. He had limited cultural conditioning. But, Jake saw figures one would not expect a child raised as an Orthodox Jew to have seen.

While Jake's NDE is fascinating, it's only the beginning of his journey that he takes us on in the pages of his book. P.M.H. Atwater has studied near-death experiences and reports it takes an adult 7-14 years to integrate the experience and adjust to "ordinary" life again. Children often take two to four decades to integrate their experiences. Jake is only 30 years old now. He takes through the difficulties he had adjusting back to this world, even after having had his experience so early in life. And, we learn of the angels in human form who have guided him along his path.

Jake is wise beyond his years, evidence for his claim of reincarnation. The book will help you understand how you are never alone, no matter how it seems. And, it will help you remember who you truly are, making this life richer, more meaningful, and bearable.

I enjoyed reading Jake's account of his NDE at the early age of three. I found myself enveloped in his story and envisioning his journey on the other side of the veil. I enjoyed reading how he navigated back to his body and the message he received about the power of our thoughts deeply moved me. Jakes life after his NDE was inspiring to read about and the messages will help many people I am sure. Thanks Jake!

In LIFE AFTER BREATH Jacob Cooper LCSW tells the honest story of the often difficult path to coming into his spiritual life. Along the way he shares amazing insights and wisdom from his experiences and voracous studies. His experience of having an NDE as a toddler will bring parents who have lost a child comfort knowing spirit intervenes at once to ensure there is no pain when we cross. Clearly well-read in spiritualism, Jewish mysticism and the healing modalities like Reiki, Jacob offers hope for everyone on the path to discovering their own spiritual life. I was touched by his acknowledgement of Fred Rogers’ Lifetime Achievement Award speech at the end of the book, a reminder that we should all take ten seconds to remember the people in our lives who have shaped us into who we are today. An inspirational read for anyone in search of a more spiritual life. Enjoy!

Fond of NDEs I was drawn to reading this autobiographical work after viewing Jacob’s Silvia Isachson’s YouTube interview. I welcomed the struggle Jacob shared with his orthodox upbringing furthered by his irreverent grandfather. Jacob’s NDE at three drives the cabalistic curiosity in Israel after several encounters of knowing he’d been an adult teacher in a previous incarnation who came to a mysterious end. This was later confirmed by a psychic as were numerous insights about and from strangers whose lives were revealed through psychic knowing. A compelling work of a life’s soul journeys…

Life After Breath written by Jacob Cooper is an eloquent sharing of his near-death experience at the early age of three. I found his honest and authentic realness regarding his life's struggles to be very relatable. His message regarding adversity and the challenges he faced with integrating his spiritual awareness was also so helpful and inspirational. He offers a compassionate viewpoint that encourages others to open their hearts and live in gratitude. Thank you, Jacob, for illuminating your Heartlight!

I appreciated how Jacob shares his journey and mixed feelings as a result of his childhood NDE. It was relatable especially for those of us who have never felt like we really fit in with society "norms and expectations". As a highly empathic and intuitive person, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the synchronistic events Jacob describes in his book that occurred in my life as well. What Jacob learns through this process is inspiring. I highly recommend this book and look forward to his next one. Thank you!

I was too uptight and nervous

As I was reading this book I was wondering what was "off." Then I read the statement "I was too uptight and nervous," and then it made sense, a life filled with mystical experiences yet not fully immersed in truth. When knowing the truth of your being there is a calm, peace about you that Jake mentioned a few times about other individuals. Plus at age 3 the mind is just beginning to have recall, the details are too vivid in my view.

Just what I needed

As we're going through the trials of 2022, and seeing what the devil is trying to do to us, this book was a Godsend. It's showing me that there's light at the end of the tunnel and we have to fight for what is right, as well as help those in need to be able to heal ourselves. Thank you Jake for sharing your experience!

Very insightful

This book is a very in depth study of the struggle to find ones place in the world. His insight into the roles played by family members and the alienation one feels when given a glimpse of eternity at a young age are most enlightening. As he matures in his purpose I hope he will revisit this material with more practical "how to" information.
