Modern Day Magic is the only step-by-step guide that shows how to weave magical practice into your daily life.
The book offers practical exercises, meditations, rituals, and journal prompts designed especially for men and women with busy schedules.
With eight simple magic rules, Modern Day Magic is also a primer to help readers understand fundamental magic rules and practices to help them unlock their magical power and use it to reclaim and change their lives for the better.
Greatly enjoyed this practical guide to incorporating magic into my every day life. I learned new perspectives on magic and ritual, and carefully followed the exercises and journal entries. I'm very glad this book is out there, for non-Wiccan witches such as myself I felt not only included, but thought of. Would buy again, and will probably re-read it soon.
This was a good book. I liked that the exercises were all not necessarily expecting someone to one hundred percent believe in magic. They were good centering exercises and exercises to help a person understand themself, even if they don't actually believe in the magical part. I have several anxiety disorders myself, and it helped me to understand why I have some of the fears I do and to calm my anxiety, even if I can't make the source of the anxiety go away or there's no real root cause. I liked, too, the way the exercises included physical actions, such as moving and dancing; as well as journal prompts, like writing down your fear, narrowed down more and more as you go; and even mental things, such as meditation.
The author was also very personal. She makes a reader feel seen, even though she'll probably never meet us. Her writing was understandable, she wasn't afraid to get personal and be honest, she made helpful (word) illustrations, and she gave plenty of examples. The writing was very good, especially in a magical nonfiction book. Magic is a personal topic and it was treated in a personal way. Rachel Lang made sure to keep it from getting impersonal.
The art was beautiful. I love the way they were in the same style for each chapter, but they were each different and unique at the same time. They also gave a magical feeling to the book (not that it didn't have a magical feeling without the art, but the art made it better and stronger). Also, it had a very feminine vibe to it. The whole book is feminist so it goes with that, and anyways the author talks a lot about the Divine Feminine, the source of magic. The art is divine.
I would recommend this book. You might not agree with everything, but it is well worth a read as someone who is getting into or is already into magical practices. Try it out!
This book is really incredible. I now better understand how magic can play a positive role in my life. I now understand myself better. This author is so encouraging. This book is so thorough! My favorite book this year for sure.
I'm skeptical when it comes to teaching how to connect with the universe and the like. Many authors feel like they write as if their way is the *only* way to do things. However, this author does a wonderful job of not pushing personal beliefs but actually helps the reader learn how to start or work on their own path.
I like the general message of this book - how to reconnect with your magic. And while there are some great journals prompts, spells, and rituals there's also some advice I'd consider "bad." There is nothing about how some crystals should never be exposed to water or salt - yet it is suggested to use "whatever crystal" when doing so. Also disposing of salt water into the ground? While the constant reminder that these things are not best practice can get repetitive, it's also alarming to see them completely ignored.
Wouldn't recommend this for a beginner who wouldn't be able to tell bad advice from best practice.
Absolutely loved the journey this book provided. I definitely take a mediation based approach to my magic and felt this was the perfect compliment to that. I plan to read again in the future.
