I should’ve known my life was never going to be perfect. I could hope, though. Right? I mean, here I am creating the most spectacular party for an adorable ten year old that is going to jumpstart my wobbly party planning business because he’s the nephew of Marcus Stone. The Marcus Stone, real estate mogul, aka egotistical jerk. Absolutely nothing can go wrong.
Except Marcus startles me while I happen to be holding the golden, helium-inflated, birthday numbers and I loose my grip on the number one. You see, it was all innocent enough. I didn’t mean to let go of it. Now there’s a humongous golden one that resembles a male appendage floating around to who knows where, and a very disgruntled uncle.
So much for my career.
Marcus
Maybe the number one, which looks more like a golden phallus is sort of funny, especially since it floated away from the party. Evie is also kind of cute. Okay, sexy as hell, but I doubt I’ll be needing her services in the future.
Until my parents and grandmother arrive. My mother reminds me that my grandmother is on borrowed time and would love to see me settled down.
It’s just a small lie. If telling her I’m in love with the party planner will make her last days easier, it’s a small price to pay.
But I never expected so many consequences from one...little...lie…
Karen Kelley always had a secret desire to live the life of a Gypsy. So she and her husband quit their jobs, sold their house, decluttered their lives and moved into their 5th wheel RV. Now they're traveling the United States. She works full time on her writing and spends her downtime walking on the beach or hiking in the mountains. Her motto has always been 'Who says you can't have it all.'
Evie is starting out on her party-planning career with an impressive client who could make or break her business success. The nephew of Marcus Stone, real estate mogul, is turning 10 and she is planning his party. Then a rollercoaster of disasters begin! Marcus startles Evie as she is working with the golden, helium-inflated, birthday numbers. When #1 gets away from her, it has the unfortunate appearance of a male appendage as it floats around who knows where. The disgruntled uncle was definitely not impressed. In fact, he doubts he will need her services again anytime soon!
But when Marcus’ parents and grandmother arrive for the party, his mother reminds him that his grandmother may not be with them much longer and she would dearly love to see her grandson settled down and happy. So to make her “last days” easier, he decides to tell a little tiny lie to her… he “confessed” that he was in love with the party planner, and that rollercoaster of disasters started it’s journey to the top of the curve and down to the pile of consequences a little lie will always generate.
This is fun romantic comedy that will keep the reader laughing. Evie and Marcus are opposite personalities, but her way of facing challenges head-on is refreshing and attractive to Marcus. His grandmother is one of a kind and perfect to keep the action going. Grab your copy and enjoy the fun as they try to unravel the mess and discover maybe that lie has transformed itself into something they can both hang onto.
Delightful romantic novel. A charming, unusual story, written with a lot of warmth, intelligent, witty dialogue, good use of language, believable, likeable characters and good knowledge of human nature. The story of Evie a party planner, struggling to get her business off the ground vs. Marcus, a workaholic property mogul, who forgot how to laugh and have fun, obviously with no time for relationships. What he does, keep dear above anything else, however, is his family's wellbeing and wanting to make his grandmother happy, he persuades Evie to be his pretend fiance, so she can see him settling down. Miraculously, grandma's declining health picks up at the news and further complications develop not surprisingly from suddenly having to adjust to a new norm without any time to prepare. The protagonists have undeniable chemistry, therefore we are treated to some steamy interludes along with the required tension points to keep things interesting. A giant dildo, which is pretending to be a number 1 terrifies the neighbourhood looming in the sky like some alien vessel. All is well that ends well with any good romance novel, and our young lovers get a HEA. The book was very well edited and a delight to read. I am happy to recommend it to all.

Marcus 34, was a real estate mogul but life was passing him by because he was always concentrating on work and had no social life. Evie was a party planner who had been raised by her single dad as they travelled the country in an RV. Evie was setting up a birthday party for Marcus’s nephew and they met each other over a hilarious incident with the birthday balloons. He found her sexy and hot and she found him hot but way too serious. Marcus’s grandmother’s health had gotten worse over the last year and in an effort to keep her happy he blurted out that he and Evie were engaged and living together. Evie agreed to the charade after he blackmailed her about her business and then his grandmother also moved into the mansion with them. Would Marcus and Evie’s fake engagement lead to a more permanent relationship?
I enjoyed this enemies to lovers story that contained a lot of humor too. The author did a great job developing the characters and showing how their pasts had shaped them. I especially loved the humor and the chapters from Nonna and her plotting. This was a fun book to read and I highly recommend it.

Evie was a Party/ Event Planner with a very exciting past. Marcus was very serious Real Estate Mogul that didn’t really have a past at all but work. Nonna was a great actress! This was a hilarious book from the beginning to the end. The characters were so endearing and engaging and the story was so interesting and exciting. Nonna and Marcus’ family secretly hired Evie not only for his nephew’s birthday party but to set them up. Nonna also had made herself look old and used props to walk. Then she moved in with him. Marcus fell in to Nonna’s trap and then began to make a snowball of lies for him and Evie. Speaking of Evie, did I say that Evie and Marcus got off on the wrong foot? Why yes they did! So funny how Nonna, Evie and Marcus as well as the rest of his family interact while trying to placate a “dying” Nonna and Marcus and Evie falling in love, but is it real? I so enjoyed the characters and the story. Good read.

5 stars I received a free copy of the steamy Texas Hill Country based romantic comedy Not My Type: Marcus and Evie by Karen Kelley and this review was given freely. Truly enjoyable! Interesting and multifaceted characters fill the pages of this steamy novel with some ribald humor and an awkward/unfortunate first meeting which sets the tone for the entire novel where lies, an interfering grandmother and a strong attraction lead to a comedy of errors and a happy ending. After three years, thirty four year old workaholic real estate mogul Marcus Stone finally decides to take a break and celebrate with friends only to find his friends have moved on and his plans challenged by his nephew's spitfire party planner Evie Baker.
Excellent from the first page to the last one It's an excellent romantic comedy, tender, but also with some hot scenes, very good dialogues between endearing characters. Marcus seems egocentric, arrogant, careerist, bordering on the sociopath, and he meets Evie who is working to develop her new company, who is a sassy woman, who does not let herself be harassed but who always wants to help the others. Although attracted to Marcus, Evie can't stand him, but to keep up Marcus's grandmother's morale, she finds herself embroiled in a lie that forces her to hang out with him. The story also has a lot of funny scenes, whether it's about the situations or about Evie's actions to provoke Marcus. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Evie has decided to settle down after traveling with her father all her life and now she is trying to get her party planning business off the ground. This is where Marcus family comes into her life when she is hired to plan a party for his nephew's tenth birthday. Marcus took over his families real estate business right out of high school and has made it a big success but he works all the time and now in his mid thirties his sister and grandmother are matchmaking by hiring Evie who is fun loving and all around great person. This book is so cute and fun to read and loved all the characters especially his grandmother who is the ring leader.
Delightful, entertaining and engaging can be used to describe this book. The story line is a fun and enjoyable read, has some moments where you can't help but laugh and snicker and holds your interest. The characters are fun, easy to get to know and have definite chemistry. She's struggling to get her event planning business off the ground and he's a work-a-holic who has forgotten how to laugh and have a good time. Put these 2 together and you have a great story you'll be glad you added to your reading list.

Oh no, the aliens are invading us! Haha just kidding, it's just a giant one with red balloons on the side resembling the male anatomy. Evie's party starts out a little rough when the balloon ends up floating away. It ends pretend engaged to real estate mogul Marcus Stone. It's just a small white lie to his dying grandmother. What could possibly go wrong? Catch feelings when they're polar opposites? No way! Living together, Marcus and Evie realize while their upbringings were very different, maybe they aren't as different as they thought. Cute, fun, captivating read. ❤️
Thoroughly enjoyed this romantic comedy. Evie and Marcus are opposites, career-wise, but she is confident, straight forward and so full of life and interesting experiences that he quickly gets swept up in this exciting untried opportunity, which is eye-opening. His grandmother is a smart, feisty and loving character. Fun, humorously entertaining matchmaking story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Predictable at best. The characters were slightly likeable. The entire situation was unrealistic and comical. Having tr grandmother as a point of view was interesting.
