Diamond in the Dust

Rate this book
Life is the dirt where I’ve buried the secrets of my past.

With a few careless words, those rotting memories have been uncovered.

For years, I healed the past by living in the moment.

Until I found the woman who would be my future.

Now all those unspoken secrets have the power to destroy everything.

What started out as a simple rescue has taken me down a road I never could’ve imagined. And I’ll do anything to keep her in my life.

The ugliness of my past is buried deep.

But no matter how much dirt you throw on top of them, skeletons always have a way of crawling out of the darkest holes.

"I don't need all of the details of your past to know how much I love you in our present."
description

Diamond in the Dust is the 18th book in the Lost Kings MC Series. It is the conclusion to Shelby and Rooster's story and once again, Ms. Lake has brought her A-game to this masterpiece. This book is not a stand-alone. You must read Rhythm of the Road and Lyrics on the Wind before digging into Diamond in the Dust. Shelby and Rooster have been through hell and back and finally, it's time for them to find their HEA together, and yet, as always, they have many roadblocks to overcome on their journey.

description
"I love you for caring so much."
Told in dual POV, Diamond in the Dust is a complex story with many twists and turns. Rooster and Shelby are well-matched as both are determined to not let anyone bring them down. Rooster is one of my favorite LOKI heroes because he supports Shelby through all of the chaos of her career, family drama, and insecurities. Shelby is spunky and full of fun. Together they are unforgettable and share smoking-hot passion and unconditional love.
"Love my girl right."
Overall, Diamond in the Dust is another outstanding read by Autumn Jones Lake. This series never fails to disappoint. The brotherhood between the ensemble is unshakeable and the depth of loyalty they share knows no bounds. I have long been a fan of Autumn's work and I cannot wait for more! If you are an MC Romance fan and you haven't met the LOKI MC yet, you are truly missing out!

The couple: Rooster and Shelby

Romance trope: MC
Series: Lost Kings MC
Length: 578 pages

Previous books about this couple: Swagger and Sass, Rhythm of the Road, Lyrics on the Wind

Plot: Back to our third (and a half) installment of Rooster and Shelby's story. We left off the last book at a run-in with Rooster's ex, Ashley, who made it sound like there was a super big mystery about who Logan (Rooster) was. Once they get out of there, Rooster takes Shelby to a local park (State park, not playground) and tells her about his background. The truth was both not as drastic and much more heartbreaking than Ashley implied:

Most of the plot from here on out happens on tour/right after the tour ends:
The tour continues and eventually, they end up in Nashville, where Rooster leaves to go back to NY for club business, and Shelby spends some time writing songs with Dawson and Chaser, and then later Chaser's daughter, Angelique. Rooster comes back for the CMAs, where Shelby wins an award for . Eventually, they all make it back to New York, Shelby included, where she and Rooster look for a place to live. Together. That's right - !

And the second epilogue! I can't wait for Grinder's story!

Commentary: There were lots of little things in this big book: the shootout while visiting Rooster's old charter; the way Shelby recognized the importance of their rockers; the moment where Murphy and Heidi announced the pregnancy and Charlotte left the room; when Ice got super growly and told Anya to put her dress back on; when Rooster threatened Glenna; all of the interactions with Jiggy and with the other old ladies. I think this book was much more character-driven than plot-driven. In this case, the plot was simply a way to move through those moments. That's definitely not a criticism. I bet most people go into this book knowing the beginning and the end, but it's getting there that is the best part. These are such compelling characters that we love for the way they treat the others around them. I love seeing how there's not so much tension between Heidi and Trinity anymore, and how Trinity and Wrath are Grace's favorites. I love seeing Angelique struggle with Chaser as a protective dad (like we didn't all see that coming!). Beyond everything, I love the brotherhood that Jiggy and Rooster share. I would not have guessed at Jiggy's background, but I enjoyed seeing that slice of it from Rooster's memories, and I love that the two of them are still taking care of each other after all these years.

Miscellaneous:
*Rock says "simmer down" twice
*Chaser has a couple of brothers!
*I'm glad Shelby is back to drinking Sprite - I mean, she's a Texas girl so it should be Dr Pepper but still, she's healing and I like that for her!
*Shelby mentioned being from a small town but they met her in San Antonio - is she from a smaller town on the outskirts? Because San Antonio isn't small; I might have missed something there.

3.5 Logan and Shelby Stars

This was the third book focussing on Shelby and Logan (Rooster) and it picks up from where Lyrics on the Wind finished. I went into it thinking there was going to be a huge reveal about Rooster's past and it actually didn't feel so huge when I got to it. It was enjoyable to read - I love all books pertaining to LOKI , but it felt a little like it drifted in the middle.
The friendship between Rooster and Jigsaw is still one of my absolute favourites and I cannot wait to get Jiggy's story one day. That said , the whole deal between Jiggy and Lyn , Shelby's Mum , did not appeal to me. I'm not sure where it's going but I hope Jiggy doesn't go there. I have every faith in AJL but that does make me a bit uneasy.

Rooster is a gorgeous Hero. He is so protective, hot and funny. He ticks all the yummy Hero boxes for sure. The ending for Rooster and Shelby is lovely and the second epilogue for Grinder is intriguing.

HEA? More HFN but yes, gorgeous finish.
Cheating? No. These two are solid.

If you've read the series you will want to read the conclusion of the trilogy within the series.
It's okay.
I read it as I've read the previous books so thought I'd see what happened.
To me it seems a bit ..... Boring, slow.
I felt the trilogy could have been a duet it some things had been cut down a bit.
Dual POV.
Flashback scenes of Hero's past/childhood/youth.
Loads and loads of long sex scenes between the Hero and heroine.
Small other woman drama, ex but the Hero is totally devoted to the heroine and is not interested in the slightest.
A weird scene where they visit the Hero's previous club from his younger days so the club have different standards and there is some voyerism scenes of another couple.
Lots of potential breadcrumbs dropped for future storylines in spin off series.

It was reassuring and unique that they were a couple who didn't want kids, the author stuck with the decision and no accidental pregnancy.

I'm not sure if my enjoyment was spoilt by not being aware that this couple's story was a trilogy.
I read book 1 not expecting a cliffhanger, otherwise I would have waited to read the 3 books back to back.
By the time the next book is released I've forgotten who is who and am not invested in the characters.
Maybe if I'd known beforehand, I can't imagine why authors don't mention it.

HEA.
Epilogue.

I love this series. And Rooster? He’s probably the most gentle, patient, giving and generous lover/boyfriend/husband you could ever have, with a side of “I’ll fuck you up if you touch what’s mine”.
And this was a perfectly nice end to their trilogy. If a tad too long.

Another well written and thought out book by this talented author.
Like my last review I'm going to keep this review short and sweet so that I don't give away how it ended since it's already been a long hard road traveled.
I will say though that Shelby's sass was definitely out in full force, and some character back stories knocked me for six, cannot wait to find out more.

Gah! I loved Rooster and Shelby! Their story was so good! What a wild journey they’ve been on! I loved the mingling of the upstate and downstate charters and getting to know them more! Although I hated that Priest made Z move to downstate I feel it’s benefited them all really well and we’ve gotten new members to get more books!!! I need a book for Jiggy so bad!! He cracks me up something fierce! This is one of my top MC romance series!! I’m obsessed! Can’t wait for more!!

Interesting ending!

The ending epilogue is intriguing. Grinder must be out of jail and ready to start over. Now, about Shelby and Rooster....while I love the characters and their story, I think this could have been shorter by at least one book. I found my mind wandering in this portion. Had enough!

The highlight of the trilogy for me was Jigsaw! I hope he gets a book soon!

Just ok.

Well, I don’t know what to say. I gave this four stars because I can’t help but love the banter between the Lost Kings. Did there need to be 3 books for this couple? I don’t think so. I did get bored reading this one.
Really looking forward to Grinder’s book.

I was so looking forward to this, I too did not see the point in a third book but okay, the ending was not what I expected ,Where did they move? Did I miss that, I was kind of skimming, where was their 5 year down the road story? . I hope Jiggy gets a book with a love interest that is not Shelby's mother. Will the author go back to the main plot of the books, the MC? Do we get a book inbetween Grinder and the next about the MC? Will there be issues with the half brothers going through Rock's territory? What about Loco, Sophie, Mara even Sway. I know I sound crazy but you have these characters in most of the books then all of a sudden that's it we don't here from them. Just hoping for more of the actual MC story as well.

Autumn! You did it again! How do you keep writing about the LOKI family (more than 25 books later) and continue to add characters that I want to read about?! I can’t really write a review without any reveals but thanks for including everyone in Shelby’s and Rooster’s book. There are so many questions in my head and there are so many more stories I want you to create! Please create their spoiler group on FB. I’m going to do a reread now....

Ok... This is the worst part of reading these darned books... The coma that hits when they're over!

Now I have to see if I can get my head and heart wrapped around it enough to form proper words... and sentences and stuff. (Guys, I have notes this time!)

Firstly, to see this trilogy (and a prequel) come to a close is both heartwarming and sad for me. I've fallen in love with Rooster, Shelby and Jiggy. (Because let's be honest... Jiggy may not be in a thruple with these two but he is definitely the permanent third wheel!) And even though I know their story is far from over, I'm going to miss the anticipation of a new book surround them.

So many things came up for me in this final book... Rooster and Jiggy's past (really Autumn.... REALLY? You're just making me want Jiggy's story even MORE NOW!), the budding... something... between Angelina and Dawson, Priest sticking his nose in ALL the LOKI business, Teller and Charlotte (my heart just continues to break for those two), Andrew's comments... (I know there's a story here....) and all the other things going down with the Devil Demons.

So many new story lines poked out and showed their heads... old story lines continued to stick in there like thorns, begging for more information.

The LOKI (and Hollywood Demons) world continues to grow and add and change with every book Autumn releases. And though me, and the others on the launch team will consistently poke, cajole, prod, and beg for our little nuggets (and our big nuggets too!) she hasn't disappointed us yet!

Bring on Crown of Ghosts! My heart is ready.... I think....

Never the same ole same ol

AJL never writes the same ole same ole! What she does and does so well is makes you fall in love with her characters! She both feels the need to see her LOKI members have a HEA but in the meantime still face the problems we can all experience.
I loved Rooster and Shelby from the first Then AJL created this world, constantly introducing new pps that keeps the material fresh , enjoyable, and full of anticipation. I love Jiggy and Dex and Ravage, Angelina, Lynn, Dawson, and what’s up with Quill? That looks so promising!
I feel like, not directing AJL in any kind of way because she doesn’t operate that way, I wanted Lynn to end up with Grinder, but now Jiggy? Wouldn’t be so wicked twisted if Tawny ended up with Grinder and we all changed how we felt about the Queen mother? Then Anya, in the click but not in the club like in a fish bowl looking out!
Just so many agendas, but I know and have confidence that AJL will sort it all out!
Her writing is so real, so gritty, this fantastic world that’s I just enmeshed into escape the realities of today’s world.
It is a trilogy, however, the entire series gives you the best POV.
Another grand slam Ms Jones! Bravo!!!
I laughed, I cried, and I think I highlighted more than I ever have any of her books! Congratulations on a great piece of writing ....again!

I'm seriously lost for words....

I'm a big fan of Autumn's work, (ok a MASSIVE fan 😘) but no matter who writes what I read, I'm always honest and all I can say about this book is Holy shit! Smashing it is a gimassiff understatement!

Book 3 in Rooster and Shelby's story, the finale and I'm kind of at a loss as to what I can say! Their story was left on a cliffhanger, an ex had showed up and dropped a huge bomb....
Well this book gives us a few flashbacks and I can honestly say my 'lil heart hurt - what they went through was just so freaking sad! It's up to you to read and see what I'm talking about because spoilers are the devil's work! So I'm not sure what else I can say 🤷🏻‍♀️

Every single word had me glued to my screen, their passion, their fierceness, their travels, their friendships - I can only dream of having friendships the way these guys/gals do!

I loved getting to know the different newer characters, seeing them interact with the usual ones, although there's a lot going on, it all just fits together so well! And I have to say - Rooster and Shelby (and Jiggy!) have claimed a part of me!
I was well and truly in the LOKI world and I'm gutted that it's over but that just means I'll go back and reread it alllllll over again! I've lost count of the amount of times I've read and reread this series and I've nowhere near had enough!
I can't wait to read what comes next!!

Hats off to ya Autumn, you have well and truly smashed it! Five stars is nowhere near enough what it deserves!

Wow Wow Wow!! Not only did we get the exciting and complicated finale to Rooster and Shelby's story, but this book was chock full of so many other side stories and interesting characters, that it made my head spin. We were given the details on Rooster's past, how he came to be the man he is today and how his lifelong friendship with his club brother bestie was born. We get some major drama from some of Rooster's Exes as well...ugh...but only one is a real witch and the other is more just sad to watch but also stirs the pot for some club issues. I wasn't too sure how I would like mixing a country singer's story with one of my LOKI men, but it worked on many levels and opened up the biker world to more outside possibilities for storylines and romances.
It was at times funny, full of feisty spirit, sweet romance and yet also had some downright nasty characters that I wanted to slap (much like Shelby wanted to do). Another awesome addition to the series...book 18!!!...and I love all of these bikers and their ladies!

What an incredible journey for this lovely couple. Gosh, Autumn really knows how to fully immerse you into a relationship and make you feel all the emotions the couples go through. At this point, I’m not even sure who my favourite couple is because they’re ALL just that good.

Rooster and Shelby have shown such tremendous resilience through out. There’s a conversation in this book discussing relationships that set the bar and teach you not to settle and THIS is one of them.

Their communication is excellent, their willingness to meet each other half way, just their general commitment to each other. There was outside sources who “tried” to hurt them at times, but it always melded them together more.

Then we have Jiggy! Gods, what an awesome character. Here’s to hoping he gets to his story because he too deserves that happy ending!

Overall, chefs kiss, especially if you want to see a couple who always comes together, learning the ins and outs of the MC oh and the steamy moments. Feels like you’re right there peeking in.

Amazing!

Another fabulous story from Autumn.

After last year I really needed some joy in my life. Reading really helps and Autumns stories really are the greatest. I loved Shelby and Rooster's story. I love how protective he is of her. Shelby has that sassyness that really keeps you on your toes. In the beginning when Rosters ex shows up I thought the book would go in a different direction. I was so happy it didn't. I loved the seriousness in the book and the lightheadedness of certain parts were perfect. I enjoyed Jiggy and his smart sayings and how he acted around Shelbys mother. This story makes you feel good and to not want to stop reading the book. I wish it didn't end. This is a must read. Of course in order of the other 3 before. They are all highly recommended by me. I have them all from Slow Burn to Diamond.

Book 18 in the series and she still leaves her readers wanting more, more, more.
Some reviewers complained that this was a trilogy. Seriously?
Some readers complained the book was too long? Seriously?
Honestly, I can’t wait to reread Rooster and Shelby’s story (again) from Swagger and Sass. As I reread this series multiple times a year. How many authors drag you into their world so deeply, you want to stay or revisit again and again?
Said it before, and I’ll say it here. Autumn is so very gifted in character development and storylines.
May she continue the journey 💯 years.

I fell in Love with Rooster and Shelby back in their first book Swagger and Sass and was beyond excited when Autumn said she was adding more books to their story. The first chapters in Diamond are so emotional and beautifully written I got emotional and had to stop reading for a bit. Autumn knocked it out of the park with the ending book for this couple it had everything that I needed it to have and more it was perfect. I love that even though it's their last book we will still see Rooster and Shelby in other couples books. I enjoyed seeing Chaser and his family so much he's one of my favorites. I can't count how many times i smiled or laughed out loud while reading Diamond it was so amazing. I'm so grateful for Autumn for bringing these characters to life. So excited to see where Grinder's road takes him and who he ends up with.

This was another really good one... it's the last of Rooster and Shelby's story. They have had some ups and downs but always stuck to each other. They seem to have one of those relationships that carry on forever. Just want to know exactly how they are going to work it out with him on the road away from the club. Since other couples keep showing up since they have had their own books then hopefully they will be in other books down the line.
Loved the end how you figure out who's book is next.
Think it's time for bed and jump into the next book tomorrow

Happily Ever After

Wow. It was more than I imagined it would be. Laughter and swoons but my heart also broke for Rooster and Jiggy. Such wonderful characters who stay loyal and totally honest through out the entire ride called life. Shelby and Roosters connection is amazing and she accepted that Jiggy would be apart of them no matter what without batting an eye.
She has to be one of the BEST ol ladies there is. Not knocking any of them because I love them all. Shelby just took to it like she was made for this role.
AMAZING JOB AUTUMN! Can’t wait for Grinder.

How to put into words??
Rooster and Shelbys story was just beautiful!
Diamond in the Dust was long! But you weren’t left wondering about anything. I absolutely adore how Autumn manages that. Leaves little tidbits that will turn into a story later on, but answers what you need to know to have the story complete.
I adore Lost Kings and Rooster and Shelby are an amazing part of the club.
Loved seeing everyone else again as well, that’s the best part of Autumns books, you always catch up with old favourites.

As always, this is a 100% 5 star recommendation from me.

The wait was so worth it. It was just over so quickly. Again Autumn has written another flocking fabulous addition to her Loki world. Shelby and Rooster are in their happy for now and we got to spend time with the rest of the Loki family and Devil Demons. Plus Blaise from the Savage dragons. Love, love loved it!!!!! Now we wait impatiently for Grinder to find some happiness. Thank you Autumn for the Loki world!

Loved this latest book for Shelby and Rooster. Their story continues with plenty of humor, romance, steam and adventure. She never disappoints and always leaves you wanting more and more of the LOKI world!

Yet another amazing installment in the LOKI universe!

I loved every single word of Rooster and Shelby's final book. I have to admit I was completely blown away by the backstory of Rooster and Jiggy, I so was not expecting anything like that. Can't wait to read more about them in future books in the Lost Kings series. Five stars for sure!
