Rob Steen is an amazing talent! He has a joyful ability to give a simple bipedal character with barely a face, melancholy, curiosity and wonder at the strange, disturbing world he finds himself it. The drawings are fantastic. The simplicity of The Pod contrasts with the gorgeous textures and details of the landscapes, creatures, and trees he finds. Love this so much! There's no text at all so a lot is left to the "readers" imagination so I don't think you'll find another book quite like it!

Honest take: The Pod is better than its reputation and worse than its fans claim. Robert Steen lands about two-thirds of the big moments and fumbles the rest. Still, a good time. Good for readers who enjoy a book with real flaws, skip if you only want a sure thing.
