Fiona Riley was born and raised in New England where she is a medical professional and part-time professor when she isn’t bonding with her laptop over words. She went to college in Boston and never left, starting a small business that takes up all of her free time, much to the dismay of her ever patient and lovely wife. When she pulls herself away from her work, she likes to catch up on the contents of her ever-growing DVR or take a walk with her dog.

Fiona’s love for writing started at a young age and blossomed after she was published in a poetry competition at the ripe old age of twelve. She wrote lots of short stories and poetry for many years until it was time for college and a “real job.” Fiona found herself with a bachelor’s, a doctorate, and a day job, but felt like she had stopped nurturing the one relationship that had always made her feel the most complete: artist, dreamer, writer. A series of bizarre events afforded her with some unexpected extra time and she found herself reaching for her favorite blue notebook to write, never looking back.

Lauren took Thea's jaw in her hand and pulled her close as she promised, "I am going to exhaust you tonight."

"Not if I exhaust you first." Thea eased out of Lauren's grasp, kissing her lightly. "Save some energy for after the game."

Lauren dragged her thumb across her bottom lip as she stepped back. "I will."

"Good luck," Thea said with a wave as Lauren turned towards the ball field.

Buddy read with Amy 💕💕💕. I'm still so conflicted on what rating to give both this book and the first in the series. It's undeniable that this author writes some of the best chemistry I've ever read, and I really appreciate how she doesn't shy from writing sexy, hot moments since sometimes wlw love is portrayed as this innocent angelic thing. But she also shows the incredible and almost tangible tenderness between the characters which just makes the romance and love between them so so real. Unfortunately, I had a few too many qualms with this book too, which took away from me giving it more than 4 stars. I'd still definitely give this series a try though, this author is probably one of my new favourites.

➥ Lauren (h) was a pretty chill character. I didn't like her at first because she had encouraged Trina and Kendall's breakup (in the first book), but I didn't mind her much here. She definitely had her hot moments, and I was very pleased with her decisions and ideas. Love, love, loved the ending. I also loved that she played softball; saur hot. Oh, and she's rich rich with a soft spot for designer; love a hyper-feminine woman. Just things like leaving a lipstick kissmark on Thea's temple is so cute to me.

➥ Thea (h) is so bae. I'm going to politely ignore that we first meet her while she's wearing a black leather jacket because imo it's very badass wannabe, sorry. I can't take it seriously. But...she definitely redeems herself in so many aspects. She's (also) so hot, and has her super charming moments. The lake scene felt so magical and special; I'll always remember it. Though, she did fuck up a little to much at the end, for my taste. More on that later. She had a cute farmgirl thing going on with boots and all, and you know what, I was kinda digging it. It's sweet.

Guess who's back to add some thoughts to this review that actually make sense 🤪😌. No promise of articulation or logic though. Firstly, I appreciate how much smoother their get-together was. It was a hook-up to more, and it was a really, truly lovely friends-to-lovers romance. I didn't have to wait until 40% to like it, yk? It was fun because, due to the lack of angst and troubles, there was so much more teasing and smiles. It was truly a delight to read about. Riley has an unmatched skill at writing kiss and sex scenes. They're always tension filled with dialogue that just makes your heart flutter. Even their teasing in general conversation is always just so so good.

"You'd think after last night you'd be satiated," Lauren said with a quick kiss as she pulled her hand back.

"And yet here I am, thinking about all the ways I can get you naked and under me."

Lauren motioned for her to lean in. She whispered into her ear, "I think you underestimate how great it is when I'm naked and on top."

Another thing I greatly appreciate are Riley's hyperfeminine characters. Though I think I enjoyed it even more in Bet Against Me, I loved how Lauren owns a Porsche, has a weakness for designer and is a high heels girl. It's something that I struggle to find sometimes in ff romance but ugh, I just love it here, and Riley just does it so well.

Another thing that I enjoyed was the great side lgbtq+ representation. We see poly representation because Lauren's own parents are in a poly relationship! I just think it's so cool because so many mm romances pretend that only gay men exist lol.

I also love love love that this isn't toaster oven. I really appreciate how there was no homophobia or coming out aspect and the focus was fully on them falling in love, like any romance novel. Ugh, it just makes me so happy. Like I was actually giddy and smiling while reading this with Amy, their dialogue was just spectacular and so swoon-worthy.

“You’re my favorite,” Thea said, leaning in.

Lauren kissed her, smiling against her lips. “Good, because I expect you to carry that bag up to the guest room for me.”

“And what do I get for my troubles?” Thea asked between kisses.

Smiling against her lips?? The flirting?? One of them being so charming that she carries up her bag for her?? I was dreamy sighing the whole fucking time. I think Riley is such an underrated writer among the lesfic community, especially this series!!

If you read this book, just know that the lake scene left a mark on my heart. It was so tender, so intimate, so just...lovely. I treasure that moment so much and think it was such a perfect, well-thought-out aspect of the book.

I'm gonna go through a couple little more complaints now before I squeal about the epilogue, yeah? Okay, something I think Riley could improve upon is her conflicts. The conflict in this book occured at the ripe percentage of 70%. Already?? Another thing that bothered me was that it employed the miscommunication/mistrust trope. You've declared your love for eachother, why don't you believe eachother then? There was a silly "last night was a mistake" and sigh, this book would have been so so achingly good without it. I would have been more open to embracing Riley's conflicts if there had been good grovelling and if it hadn't been too drawn out but unfortunately I was disappointed on those fronts too. I'm glad that, in this book, the right person grovelled (ahem Bet Against Me), but we just got...an apology text?? 😭😭 In a romance book?? Come on, we could do so much better than that.

Also, this book is victim to a little bit of millennial humour but it's something that I was able to find endearing and bearable. Could I do without the Justin Beiber references? Yeah, of course, but I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would.

Something I liked more about the first book, however, were the sex scenes. The first hook-up scene in this book involved using a fruit and it was NOT my thing sorry. Imo the peach thing remains in Call Me By Your Name and it isn't to be talked about. Some of the sex scenes were still super good tho!! But then...there were also an awful lot of fade to black ones 😭 particularly a shower one when those tend to be my favourite because of the intimacy and ugh.

Now, something I'm so glad this book had, was an epilogue. A steamy one too, with the best sex scene of the whole book imo. It certainly ended with a bang and I honestly really appreciate that! AND DID I MENTION THAT WE GOT A "GOOD GIRL"??? DEADDDD.

Thea kissed away from her lips to nip at her earlobe again as she whispered, "Sit on my face."

Lauren nearly came on the spot. "Fuck."

Thea lifted her up and slid down the bed, and before Lauren knew it, she was on her knees looking down at Thea about to lose all control.

"Good girl," Thea said before lifting her head and connecting her mouth to Lauren's flushed and swollen lips.

And I died, bye! 💘

Save the farm.

This is a rather enjoyable one-night-stand to lovers novel and it is the second out of three books in the High Stakes series.

Lauren is so lovable. She's positive and bubbly. And I was pleasantly surprised because I didn't recognise those qualities in Lauren's brief appearances in Bet Against Me as Trina's best friend and colleague. But that was because I found it difficult to like Trina back then and I thought Lauren's protectiveness over her best friend was misplaced.

Lauren was lonely when she met Thea at the bar. Her first night with Thea was passionate and even though it was meant to be a casual one night stand, I love how naturally Lauren and Thea got together soon after their worlds collided when Lauren showed up as the real estate consultant to Thea's declining family farm.

I liked Thea at the start but a little less as the story went on. I thought she was immature when it came to her family farm. And I was not impressed by her her throwing tandrums when it came to selling it especially because she had no interest in running it nor had a clue what to do. Not to mention the unrealistic expectations she had on Lauren to save the farm.

I didn't like the "saving the farm" storyline but I did enjoy their chemistry when Thea wasn't yapping away about the farm. And I really like Lauren a lot. I like Riley's writing and I'm looking forward to the third book.

“Bet the Farm” is the second in Fiona Riley’s High Stakes series. This time it’s Lauren’s turn to shine in this very steamy one-night stand to forever romance.

Lauren is another realtor with Gamble and Associates and is sent to Maine to help out her boss’ friends with the sale of their farm. Before she leaves, she goes out and has a passionate night with Thea, who she meets at the Mirage.

So, this started off peachy😉 It was hot and heavy with a lot of steam and Lauren and Thea have plenty of chemistry upon meeting. My problem is that it never really got beyond this point for me. I never felt an emotional connection or any deeper relationship than their sexual one. And that’s fine for something marketed as erotica, but as this is tagged as romance, it just didn’t work for me overall.

The plot was pretty thin for the most part. Thea’s family is having to sell their farm to pay off the debt they’ve acquired. Lauren is brought in to try to come up with creative ideas on how to get the most out of the bad circumstances. Thea no longer lives on the farm; she lives in Boston but doesn’t want to see her home sold off. She complains a lot about it but she doesn’t really do anything to actually try and help. However, anytime plot related conversations would come up, they would become laden with innuendos and veer off to more steamy encounters.

As for those steamy encounters, they are varied and plentiful. I’m pretty sure I’ll never see a peach the same way again. If that’s your jam I’m sure you will enjoy this quite a bit.

The characters also didn’t do a lot for me, not they were necessarily bad but Riley didn’t go very deep with either so they felt a bit flat. Lauren is fine, I liked her in “Bet Against Me” and I thought she was cute here. Thea, on the other hand, seemed a little immature in regards to the selling of the farm. She blames Lauren for things that are out of her control which didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Then she all of sudden flips a switch and everything is okay.

I’d recommend reading other reviews. Others seemed to like it a bit more than so this could just be a me thing.

If you’re looking for a steamy, flirty pick-me-up, this is probably a good book for you. If you’re wanting something with some depth and emotion, I’d look elsewhere.

This book is the second book in a series following ‘Bet against me’ and can be read as a stand alone.

We meet Lauren, who some of you may remember as the best friend to Trina in Bet Against Me, and Thea who hook up at a bar in what was supposed to be a one night stand but then Lauren is brought in to consult on Thea’s family land that Thea does not want to sell even though her mother is absolutely exhausted.

I absolutely love Fiona Riley books, they’re good casual reads. In fact one of my favorite books is the second book in her Perfect Match series called Unlikely Match. Imagine how excited I was seeing the two main characters from that book make minor appearances in this one.

They weren’t the only ones however, we see small cameos from Riley’s other characters such as Kendall and Trina (the first book of this series) and Hayley and Emerson from her book ‘Media Darling’.

The cameos were delightful but added to a book that I felt was saturated with characters. I think with the exclusion of at least two newly introduced or cameo characters could’ve left room for more build up in Lauren and Thea’s relationship. There was barely any romantic aspect to it which made it hard for me to like their conclusion, the book focused more on their sexual relationship and that made it iffy to imagine them actually being happy long term after the ‘honeymoon phase’. The I love you’s were a bit rushed as well.

Regardless the book was good, lovely humor, likable characters and definitely chemistry between the characters but the ending is where it went a bit down for me.

Like it was a bit unrealistic for everything to work out the way it did in such a coincidental way. Also the sentimental value of the farm wasn’t really acknowledged, it seemed more like Thea wanting everything to work out how she wanted it making me disappointed at her character’s development.

After the way she treated Lauren her getting exactly what she wanted felt very unsatisfactory. Acceptance was definitely something I wanted to see her go through. While from Lauren I would’ve liked more personality.

So I do recommend this book because as I said it’s funny, sexy and if you like Fiona Riley books this has appearances from some of your favorite characters.

We did see a lot of Ellison in this book and I have an inkling I’m gonna love her story!

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for the arc in return for an honest review!

This is book 2 of 3 in the High Stakes Romance series which started with Bet Against Me and will finish with Beginner’s Bet. This series follows the lives of a group of realtors specialised in high luxury condos in Boston. Even though Bet the Farm can be read as a standalone, you will miss part of the background story. Book 1 is enjoyable too so it’s worth starting at the beginning.

Lauren Calloway is going through a rough patch with her bestie never around and a big real estate deal falling through. So when she had a chance to have a one-night stand with a gorgeous stranger, she took it.
Thea Boudreaux’s family is in financial trouble and about to lose their dairy farm. Now the future of the farm is in Lauren’s hands, her one-night stand. Can Thea keep the farm and Lauren in the process?

This is another hot and entertaining installment in the series. And when I say hot, I mean scorching, sizzling, flaming HOT. No wonder Fiona Riley is called “the Queen of Steam” as she writes flirting, sexual tension and sex scenes like very few authors in lesfic. It’s hard to write a one-night stand and make it memorable but Ms. Riley does exactly that and then keeps the same level of heat for the rest of the book. Lauren and Thea have serious chemistry.

Having said that, what I like about Ms. Riley’s books is that there’s an important storyline beyond all that steam. The author submerges the readers in the world of real estate business, this time in rural property and land. I liked all the tidbits of information that Ms. Riley adds to the story making it more interesting and feeding the tension around Thea’s family crisis. I also loved Lauren’s role in it and how her outgoing personality brought lightness to Thea’s family woes.

The High Stakes Romance series features a cast of diverse characters in ethnicity and sexual orientation. Those readers who have enjoyed Riley’s novel Media Darling will be happy to see that Emerson and Hayley make an important appearance in this novel. Personally, I cannot wait for book 3 featuring one of my favourite characters in this series, the intriguing real estate boss Ellison Gamble. But until then, this is the best in the series so far. 4.5 stars.

Enjoyed it just as much the second time ! 💜

Charming and enjoyable :-)
Once or twice I struggled with storyline though Riley brought back me each time.
Loved the cast of characters old and new.

Would definitely recommend.

This book wasn't what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it.
The blurb is slightly misleading, but I think in this case it makes no difference. The story is still enjoyable, although predictable at times.

We've met Lauren in Fiona Riley's previous book in this series, Bet Against Me, Lauren was the quirky math whiz and best friend in that book. In this book, she is one of the mains and the mains from book one are secondary characters. Seeing that this is the second book in a series one might wonder if you need to read the first before reading this one. I'd say it isn't strictly necessary, you get a very short rundown of what went down in Bet Against Me and the glimpses in the life Trina and Kendall to understand most of it. But mostly this is a standalone story with characters showing up from a previous book. I enjoyed Bet Against Me so my advice is to read it, I am also a big believer in reading complete series (in chronological order) so there's that.

This story is a sweet (and hot) one-night stand to forever. I will never look at peaches the same way again, so thanks for putting that visual in my head. Thea is such a brooding sweetheart and Lauren is quirky and upbeat, they seem like a perfect fit. Lauren has been down on her luck a bit both personally and professionally when she hooks up with Thea at their favourite bar. Neither of them expected that their one hot night together would stir up feelings. Combine that with a special project for Lauren, that just happens to involve Thea's family's farm and you have some conflict and hotness all in one.

As mentioned the story is predictable, every twist and turn, the big drama, I could see it coming from pages away. I was oddly fine with it, it felt comfortable somehow. I also liked that the characters were thrown together from the beginning, do they move a little fast? For sure, but I don't get that insta-love vibe, mostly lust that turns into something more. Riley always writes great dialogues and it is no different in this one. I am all for the flirty banter, general banter, any banter really. But with the story being predictable, maybe even down to the dialogue, it felt repetitive at times. Lauren was already a favourite for me from the previous book and she remains in that place, Thea I am not so sure about, she is a bit too much of a smooth talker for me. While I am writing this I come to all these realisations that there are quite a couple of things that would normally annoy me in a book, but I enjoyed this one. I am genuinely confusing myself now so I am going to stop here 3.5 stars.

One of the better books I've read by Fiona Riley.

Lauren is Trina's best friend/co-worker from book 1, 'Bet Against Me,' in the 'High Stakes Romance' series. She is having a string of bad real-estate luck and finds herself blowing off some steam at the bar. She exchanges some chemistry filled banter with Thea, who she meets while getting drinks, that leads to a steamy night of sex.

But as the fates would have it, the lives of Lauren and Thea are meant to intersect once again.

I connected with these characters more than I have with other books books by Riley. I felt like there was more depth than usual. Even though this relationship begins as a one night stand, it grows naturally despite a big obstacle always looming over their heads. Their banter was fun and chemistry undeniable.

I love angst and this delivered the goods in the latter part of the book. There are a few books that have dialogue that sticks with me forever. This is one of those. When Lauren and Thea are outside an airport and Lauren demands that Thea look at her. The line just hit exactly right. Guhh.

The drama did feel a little bit contrived, though. I had to suspend belief to think that Thea would have reacted or thought of Lauren the way she did after all that had been shared/experienced. But overall it was very entertaining and I like it a lot.

I recommend to those who enjoy romance, real-estate, flings, farms, small towns, softball, and cheese puns.

And I loved “seeing” the MCs from the first book here. It was just so heartwarming! Hopefully there will be a third book, can’t get enough of these stories. 100% recommend

This is part of Riley’s “bet” series, and features characters from Bet Against Me. I liked this much more than the first one. This features Lauren, best friend and co-worker of Trina from book 1, Lauren is in a real estate slump and her boss Ellison gives her a task of trying to find a way to save the farm of some family friends. The other MC is Thea, whose family own said farm.

Thea and Lauren meet in a bar and have a one night stand type hook up, but really like each other, so intend to meet up again, neither realises that the other will be involved with the farm stuff, and so are surprised by this development. The blurb makes it sound like Lauren is some ruthless real estate shark out to sell Thea’s family farm at any cost, but it’s actually the opposite, she’s trying to figure out a way for them to at least be able to keep the farm.

Anyway, the two of them are super cute together and there’s lots of lovely banter, not just between the MCs but also between them and other characters. I loved all of the scenes with Thea and Lauren with Thea’s family, Thea’s best friend is also a hoot. Lauren and all of her co-workers were also a highlight, Trina from book 1 features fairly heavily, as do Ellison and Jax, but Kendall barely manages a cameo. The MCs from Media Darling also feature, and I knew how this would end the second they were mentioned. The book also features a fair amount of diversity, with POC and a trans character.

There’s the usual break up, which frankly seemed forced and made Thea seem like an ass (Lauren was far more forgiving than I would have been) and this is resolved in a conveniently wrapped up ending that provided a somewhat unrealistic ‘everyone gets what they want’ HEA (I knocked a star off this because of Thea’s behaviour and the convenient ending). I enjoyed both MCs (except for Thea’s crap at the end) and the supporting characters were entertaining and helped flesh out the story. The MCs relationship unfolded nicely and I also liked that the characters had distinctive voices, which is something other authors miss when trying to make everyone seem fun and witty.

The third book is Ellison’s and I was a bit surprised that her love interest isn’t Faith, who appears in this book and there seemed to be some pretty heavy hinting around the two of them. Ellison was fun in both of the first two entries, so I look forward to reading her story. 4 stars.

I may love this book even more than I did the first in this series - and that's saying something!  Who knew that in addition to being a super competent and kind person, Lauren Calloway was going to be such a confident, ridiculously sexy character? Not me - but it was a very pleasant surprise.

While Trina and less so Kendall from Bet Against Me, book one of the High Stakes series, make semi-regular appearances, this is Lauren's story. During a low period when deals are falling through left and right and she begins to lose confidence, Lauren is given a special assignment by her boss Ellison to see if a family friend's farm in Maine can be saved from being foreclosed on. Ellison knows Lauren is a numbers whiz with a good heart and is confident that if anyone can figure out options, Lauren can. So what are the chances that Lauren's recent one night stand that she had the best sex of her life with is actually associated with this farm?

First - I believe part of why I enjoyed this more is that I read it, rather than listened. While I listened to book one on audio, the narration was just okay for me and I wanted to change gears for this one. So glad I did.

The chemistry between Lauren and Thea is off the charts delicious. Wow. I have only read a handful of books by Fiona Riley and had no idea she could bring the spice like that, but she surely can. I like.

The backstory about the farm was interesting to me and I also loved the description of the community around it. While I'm in love with Lauren, Thea was a bit more flawed. Yes - she's still appealing, but has moments of insanity. Luckily they don't last long, but she definitely illustrates some instances of immaturity. Still - they didn't stop me from liking her overall and she and Lauren are a great match.

I'm so excited because intriguing boss-that-everyone-would-love-to-have Ellison gets her own book next! I don't imagine I'll be able to wait too long to read book three, Beginner's Bet, since I knocked this one out in a day. These books have made me want to read even more from Fiona Riley.

I have to admit, I had mixed feelings about this book. For the most part, I found it an enjoyable read. The characters were by far the best part. They were both just fun and enjoyable to read about. The author did a much better job at making them more likable than the first book in the High Stakes Romance series.

For some reason this story line hit differently to me than most romance novels. There were almost two parallel story lines - one where the two main characters, Lauren and Thea meet and fall in love, and the other where the two main characters meet and have to work together to determine a way to save Thea’s family farm. There is obviously overlap in the two plots but the thing that separates this book from others is the love story seems to be pretty low angst and a little too perfect too soon in my opinion. There was a bit of a childish meltdown at one point when the two plots collide, but it was over with quickly and didn’t really add to, or take away from the story. The real cliff hanger in the book revolves around how Lauren, a real estate agent, could be creative enough to maintain Thea’s family’s livelihood.

And a side note pet peeve, almost all the women are gay. Why? If this is a reality I am totally living in the wrong parts of the world!

Bet the farm was a little flat and just an ok read. This is probably because the 2 MCs, Lauren and Thea, done the deed way very early in the book that it kind of lost its glitter on me. No more chasing or romancing the girl other than the 2 ladies trying to get to bed or the backseat of the car, or Thea expecting Lauren to help her keep the farm. I’m just not feeling it…. Though, I must admit that the sexy scenes are really hot (you wouldn’t expect anything else from Riley, right?)…and things that you can do with a peach…hmmm

I can always count on Ms. Riley to get my heartbeat racing, and the MCs in this story, Lauren and Thea, are no exception. I'd say this chemistry is the strong point in this story, and shall be forever cherished in my mind. Among other bits. The heat is constant throughout, from the supposed "one night stand" to the predictable HEA. Hot DAMN it's good. Peaches, anyone? Lap dance?

The story itself was decent, starring Thea, who is trying to save her family's farm and Lauren the surprise realtor with a genius brain for numbers at the helm. Their relationship was simply awesome, I loved feeling them simmer and burn. A few too many characters pop up from previous books that caused my head to spin a little and didn't always add to the story, minus Trina from book 1, and Emerson and Hayley from Media Darling.

Originally I liked Thea quite abit, but she blows it big time and I don't know I would have been so quick to forgive like Lauren did. Major head scratching on that one, but gawd I fell for Lauren big time. I know I've said it countless times before, but let's hear it for strong, confident, "takes what she wants" women who are assertive in life, love, and the bedroom. Yaaaassss......

Never going to look at a peach the same way again..... anyway...

Bet the Farm.... Brillant. Loved the characters and how they all just seemed to connect together. The two main characters had bubbling chemistry straight away, very hot and steamy from the beginning. You've got the lovable, supportive family values too. It's a real good feel book, with a hint of laughter and cuteness in the story.

Lauren Calloway can't seem to get herself a date, her best friend has just started a new relationship so is never around, and to top things off, she blew a deal at her luxury real estate job. A one-night stand is a perfect distraction she needs with an attractive stranger.
Thea Boudreaux left her family dairy farm to escape the painful memories of her father's tragic death, but when a call from her mother telling her she's about to lose the farm, Thea is devasted.
Laurens boss tells her about a lucrative land sale that could help her get back on track, she jumps at the idea. But she never thought that one night's stand would be the person stopping her from making the deal of the century.

I've given the story 4.5.

I love how authors incorporate characters from earlier books into their new stories. It's like saying hello to old friends again... and this had three books of characters to reacquaint ourselves with, and I'm not just talking about Kendall and Trina. Shelley, Claire, Emerson and Hayley brought a nice touch to Lauren and Thea's story. The history and that community feeling was emphasized in trying to save the farm. It was cute. I dig it.

I wasn't expecting to love this perhaps even more than the first book in the series but the author does a good job propping the accessories for an entertaining tale.
This is about more or less adjutant to Trina (first book main character) Lauren who has a wonderful time wih a stud and finds out later that the stud is connected to her next and important work assignment. Surprisingly, I didn't think the author invested more on milking out the complications from such a relationship for this story but instead a lot was invested in chemistry and affection in general.
I loved it.

When I reviewed the first book in this series, Bet Against Me, I said it was my new favourite Fiona Riley book; well, she just blew that out the water. I'm almost too scared to say it's my new favourite because we have one more book left in the series, although I am not sure how she could top Lauren and Thea's love story. It's everything I love about Fiona's writing; flirty, fun and full of romance.
Once again, Fiona Riley aced the dialogue. It's something (other than her sex scenes) that she excels at and makes the journey just so much more enjoyable. Ok, on to the characters...

Lauren Calloway. What a woman. I was crushing so goddamn hard on her from Bet Against Me, but now I am one hundred per cent in love. Wow!

Between her kindness and the fact she was a number genius, which for me are massive turn-ons, to her sexy skirts and outrageously high heels… #swoon. Thea never stood a chance of not falling for Lauren. She is the whole delicious package and then some.
When it comes to soulmates, Thea Boudreaux was made for Lauren Calloway. Two halves of the one… peach? You'll understand that reference very soon.

Thea gave off this 'too cool for school' vibe one minute, then the next she would come out with these romantic statements, and I'd get whiplash from the complete transparency of her feelings for Lauren. Thea feels emotions in a big way, whether it be her heartbreak at the possibility of losing the farm or the way she feels for Lauren. If there was going to be someone deserving of a woman like Lauren, it's Thea. I'm totally crushing on them as a couple!

You're going to see some recurring characters from other Fiona Riley books, watch out for them. I adore when authors bring back old characters in new books. It gives these worlds a sense of community, and because we already know the characters so well, it's like catching up with old friends.

Fiona has added some new secondary characters that I absolutely loved.
But my favourite was Avni, Thea's best friend and work colleague. There's a beautiful secondary story happening with Avni, and I am hoping against hope that Fiona Riley takes that story and makes it into novella or a full-length story. Because damn… Just damn!!!

The we have Jax who was in Bet Against Me, and I was crushing on them pretty damn hard. Now I just love them even more. I could read Jax scenes all day long. I'll stand by my statement in the review for Bet Against Me. I'd have a fourth book for Jax… if anyone could pull that book off, it would be Fiona Riley. Fact!

I didn't find this book overly angsty, and I think that is possibly why I adored it so much. Yes, Lauren and Thea have some conflict to get over, but I was never worried they wouldn't make it. #Soulmates. The epilogue was like a continuation of a beautiful story and sexy enough to leave this reader excited for book three.

I love Melissa Sternenberg's narrations. She is perfect for fun and sassy characters who like to have sexy and flirty banter. Melissa and Fiona are a perfect audiobook match, honestly. I'm not sure anyone else could do justice to Fiona's words.

Fiona knocked the chemistry between Lauren and Thea out of the park… actually, forget the park; she knocked it out of the stratosphere. I will never look at any stone fruit the same way again. These sex scenes are raunchy, hot and straddle the erotica line beautifully. There is a reason Fiona Riley is known as the 'Queen of Steam'.

When will you write full-length erotica, Fiona? Your fans are dying over here!

The sexual tension and sex scenes are beyond. But Lauren and Thea genuinely have a deeper connection that I wasn't expecting to be so fierce. It caught me off guard a few times when they would show their vulnerability or how honest they were when they told each other intimate things they hadn't told anyone else. There were so many tears… so many and all from me!

So book one, Bet Against Me, was freaking amazing; the second book, Bet The Farm (this one), was outstanding… How is Fiona Riley going to top this with the final book, Beginners Bet?

Well, Firstly, I have learned never to guess where Fiona will take us with her characters. I just know I will love it. Secondly, the next book is my two favourite tropes "Coming Out" meets "Age Gap". That has sexy written all over it.

What I do know, is that you should be pouring a glass of wine, turning off your phone or calling in sick and then buying Bet The Farm (after you've read book one) immediately. Off you go! Times a-wastin'. Enjoy!

I was leaning between 3 and 4 stars, because I didn’t feel this book/story as I do with all but 1 of Fiona Riley’s books. This story line didn’t mesmerize me like she always does. I also found out (reason for spoiler notification) that I don’t like ‘the sexual attraction and having hot sex before they get to know each other’ bit. So overall 3,5 stars but to good for 3 stars.

This book should come with asbestos gloves, 'cause it's hot, hot, hot! As always, Fiona Riley writes sexual tension between characters that have snappy chemistry. There's drama, witty dialogue and some angst.
Fans of Fiona Riley will love this one.

Thanks to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a review. And thanks, obviously to Fiona for writing it!

This book was an absolute joy to read. I didn’t realise there was a carryover of characters from Bet Against Me; a book I'm yet to read. Other than a slight head scratch at the beginning; I quickly caught up with who was who.

The story is told in third person and from both main characters’ point-of-view. They are both awesome leads. A number of side characters add depth to the story. Two that stayed with me were Avni and Jax.

There’s a lot of heat in this story, and it fits nicely into the ‘one-night stand to forever troupe’. As much as I love some sexy time, my biggest complaint would be the epilogue. I was ready to ‘see’ how they feared emotionally, not be treated to another sex scene. With that said, I guess it fit with the overall tone of the book.

Thank you to the publisher, Bold Strokes Books, and NetGalley for providing me with a review copy.

I’m a big fan of Fiona Riley so when I see a new title from her I make sure to read it ASAP.

This was a lovely book. The MCs, Lauren and Thea, both have a good heart and are well intentioned. Also, the chemistry! These two were hot together.

The secondary characters were solid. We’ve already met Lauren’s colleagues previously and Thea’s mom and brother were a welcomed addition. They added some humor to the book.

I saw the conflict coming from afar, but that’s ok. Even though it was expected it was still well done. However, I probably wouldn’t have let Thea off so easily. I think Lauren was a little quick to take her back. I would have liked to see the end be a little bit longer.

I definitely enjoyed this one.

Fiona Riley certainly knows how to write steamy romances that will have you blushing as you read the sex scenes. At the same time, she’ll melt your heart with a passionate love story. I’m happy to say Ms. Riley gets to keep her reputation as a sensual romance author with her latest novel Bet the Farm.

This is the second book in the “High Stakes Romance” series. This novel is set in the same universe as the first book, Bet Against Me, and some of the folks we met in the first tale are in this story as well, including Lauren Calloway, who is a main character in this novel. One of the perks in reading a series like this is after the first book, the basic world of the author’s making is already fleshed out and familiar to the readers. Ms. Riley has done a great job with the setting and characters in both books.

The story in Bet the Farm is intriguing. Lauren has an unforgettable one night stand with Thea Boudreaux, only to find out days later that she may be overseeing the sale of a farm that Thea’s family has owned for generations. Thea is adamantly opposed to the sale, which of course leads to all kinds of opportunities for tension and angst.

This is a delightful tale of lust and love with a fair dose of heartache to balance the story out. I totally enjoyed reading this novel, just as I did the first book in the series. While this book could be read as a standalone, I suggest you read both novels in order. I will be looking forward to Ms. Riley’s next book.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for an honest review.

Oh, lesson learned. Do not read books in reverse order, even if those are individual stories.

Ok, this was either really good or really bad, I can not decide. I was melting and cringing about romantic moments, I was either really annoyed and extremely turned on by chemistry within characters. The relationship between Lauren and Thea had all signals of burn and crash - I love you after two weeks? Also, lap f dance on the second date? Really? It was wtf moment, but, god damn it, it was hot. Honestly, there are parts of the story that are ridiculously hot, and for this only, the book gets 5 stars for semi-erotic entertainment value.

I mentioned chemistry between Lauren and Thea, and although it was...entertaining, it was really nonorganic and forced.

Regarding the story, it was a little bland, and I do will not go into sinopsys. But once again, maybe reverse reading order spoiled some story plot moments. I liked Lauren as a character, but Thea was lacking some personality traits. Maybe it is only me, but most of her persona was defined by the guilt she feels about losing the farm and family home which she left some time ago, and her stubbornness about not losing it.

Overall - big recommendation if you are into unrealistic relationships, happy endings, modern semi-erotic fairytales.

Book 2 of the High Stakes series does not disappoint! I loved that the story started from a one-night stand and grew into a love story. I also really enjoyed the exposure to the world of real estate and also dairy farming. MC Thea is torn between her life in Boston and saving her family's legacy in rural Maine (and if Casterville is real, I want to visit!). MC Lauren, who we met in Bet Against Me, wants to make her mark in real estate by getting the best deal for the farm, but also see things from Thea's perspective. Her solution was absolute perfection, plus we got to check back in with Hayley and Emerson. I'm hoping Book 3 features Ellison and Faith!

3 stars. Lauren Calloway is a realtor who is having a string of bad luck with selling properties. She needs a distraction and has a one night stand with a girl she meets at the bar. That girl turns out to be Thea Boudreaux, who Lauren is tasked with helping sell her family's farm. Thea had no idea how bad her family's dairy farm has been doing. She had no idea about the debt her mother has gotten into to and how they have not been able to survive after her father died. Thea learns the only option is to sell the farm, and she is sad, as she does not want to see if go, it is her only connection to her father. Lauren is trying to find the best option for the Boudreaux family and at the same time try not to get too involved with the tempting Thea.

I enjoyed this novel, it was the second in a series with realtor main characters. I enjoyed the first novel in the series, and I enjoyed this one as well. You do not have to read the first one to read this one, but the characters are in it, so you get more context about them. I enjoyed the dynamic between Lauren and Thea. I enjoyed that they could not keep away from each other and that they had good chemistry from the start. The novel had a good pace, although there was not a lot of tension between the two characters, as they seemed to hook up earlier on. Although, there is some tension between them. I would recommend this one. I like this author and her novels are pretty solid.

Absolutely brilliant! I fell in love with both MCs immediately and their story was so truly genuine and real it had me hooked from page 1. The witty banter was laugh out loud wonderful, their connection was off the charts believable and the chemistry was SO steamy. My first read from Fiona Riley and I'm going to read another immediately.. 5 stars without a doubt. Just Incredible!

This book was a super fun read! I'd requested it based off the first two lines of the blurb, so I had no idea what to expect. Despite that, I really enjoyed this.

I will admit that I had a ton of problems keeping the characters separate in my head. I'm not sure if it's because their voices sounded the same, or if I just wasn't paying enough attention. It was a fairly large character cast, which makes me feel slightly better about my problems.

I really liked the main romance in this one. I loved how there wasn't unnecessary angst, and the miscommunication trope wasn't used. Both of those drive me crazy, so it was super refreshing to read a book without them. I loved how Thea and Lauren communicated, and how they worked for the best for each other.

I'm not sure if I'll reread this one, but I still really enjoyed it. It was light and fluffy, and fit my mood perfectly. Id recommend it!

Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

This was cute. It wasn't a deep and mind-blowing read but something nice to spend a few hours reading. Havsnt read the first Bet book and you can easily read this on uts own. I did love the throw back connection to Hayley and Emerson from "Media Darling"
