You know that beginning on the roller coaster feeling? That click, click, click climbing feeling? The anticipation that builds in your gut and your entire being braces for the rush? That is The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone. You know there will be twists and turns, rushes of sheer joy, excitement. There will be screaming and squeezing your eyes shut from time to time in anticipation of whatever comes next. At the close of the story, much like the end of a roller coaster, you are left windblown, nerves completely shot, brain buzzed with adrenaline, but somehow desperate for more.

I couldn't love this series more. Couldn't be rooting harder for these characters more if they were flesh and bone. It's been two days since I finished Set In Stone (in the wee hours of the night, mind you), and I have yet to be able to bring myself to pick up another book. Nothing compares to Rem and Eve and the rest of the crew.

This latest in installment in the Rembrandt series had everything - suspense that made putting the book down impossible, rich interactions between these characters I've grown to love so much, laugh-out-loud inner dialogue and character interaction (those Miami scenes were pure gold!) and a cliffhanger that absolutely wrecked me. Oh, Rem.

Rembrandt's inner voice is written in such a way that allows the reader to experience things as he is, making for such a rich reading experience. I absolutely love it. Clearly goes without saying, but I am more than ready for book 5. Who am I kidding? I was ready for book 5 halfway through book 4!

Wow... just... WOW. I... am unable to can.

This book--the best of all. Combined. Times ten. (And I loved the others).

And even if the book WASN'T as bite-your-fingernails-while-turning-pages-at-warp-speed as it was... Jim Rubart's narration...

Look, I don't weep. I'm not a weeper. Seriously, though. He made me feel every drop of anguish until I wished I COULD weep with Stone. BRILLIANT. Can we get him an award for this one? Where do we petition? Who can I bribe? Just sayin'.

Can I just start off by saying, 3/4 of the way through the book I was already wishing for the next book?

Listen, I'm not a fast reader, but when it comes to a Rembrandt Stone book, you can guarantee that I'll read it in one day. This story is just so captivating that there's really nothing that can be done other than read it the moment it hits my Kindle.

This time, in this story, things are a bit different - as if the past few days/20 years of his life haven't been different enough. No wrist watch so all Rem can do is live his life in the moment. Once again, I love that he talks to us, the readers, as though we're there with me, because we basically are, right?

I appreciate that Rem reminds us of the bits and pieces that have happened in previous books/times so that we're all on the same page in the current one. It kind of keeps us on track as to what's happened in other pasts. Kudos to the authors and editors for keeping all of this insanity together!

On scene again are Burke, who was much more chill in this book than any of the others, Shelby, Zeke, and our dearest Eve! It's so bizarre when they're living lives that are different than all of the previous books and I sit on pins and needles waiting to find out how things will change through the story and by the end of the book because we all know that with all of the changes happening during the time travel, things WILL change!

There were definitely some jaw dropping moments in this story! Ones I wasn't prepared for. Things start to piece together for one part of the puzzle, but then begin to fall apart for another. I'm sure Rem is thinking, "Welcome to my world!" As with the last three books, the ending is not at all what I expected and I LOVE it!

I don't think you can read these books and not wonder how things are going to turn out in every facet of the story. I'm becoming invested in more than just Rem & Eve's stories! I want them to go back to how things were at the beginning of book one, but then that means Danny is no more. Ugh! But then if they do go back, Rem has Eve and Ashley. C'mon book 5! I need you sooner than later!

*I received the ebook for review. This is my personal opinion.

Emotions, danger, action, questions and did I mention emotions…this book had it all.

“There will always be storms, Rem. But we can't live in fear of them. We weather them. We get stronger.”

The authors planned and worked on this series for 6 years and I’m so glad I can enjoy the fruit of their hard work. This series is clever, interesting, action-packed and Rem goes through so much and taking his fans (uhm readers) along with him.

This book was a bit different to the others in that we spend time in REM’s new present. And just like Rem we have questions of what happened and discover the answers along with him. I found myself a few times ‘shouting’ along - what happened in Miami!?!

The writing of this series is so well done that some parts are third person and some, from Rem’s POV is first person and he speaks with you and takes you along each step in his journey. We see into his mind, heart and soul and sometimes it is scary and sometimes heartbreaking. I have a feeling a lot of main characters will have to live up to Rem and will be found lacking.

And just when, just like Rem, you are used to his new normal and accept it, TWIST!

I want some things to be exactly the same as the start of book 1 and other things that was new I want to keep - if I feel like this, how conflicted must poor Rem be.

“I'd like to remind you that I'm a guy. We fix things. And a detective. We solve things.”

And I have an idea of who Johnny is…

So come on book 5, bring it on!

Reread update: just as good the second time around. If anything I'm enjoying it more and spotting more of the little things I missed the first time around because I devoured them as fast as I could read.

Oh, boy.....
If there is one thing I have learned from reading this series is to plan a "recovery time " after you finish each book.
This one was no exception.
I love how each book builds more and more into the story. How much the story has changed since the beginning. And the new layers and depth that we get in this book of the series.
I can't recommend this series enough.
It has suspense, it has a complicated multi level mystery thread, it has characters that feel so real, it has an absolutely beautiful love story.
It has everything.
Rem is a character I completely adore, he is trying to get things right, yet like us, often messing up. Yet I cheer so hard for him.
He is complex, relatable and fiercely loyal to his people.
Each book has a killer of a cliffhanger and this one has a cliffhanger that was so intense and so raw..........
It. WAS. INCREDIBLE.
.
Desperately eager for book 5!

As a reader, there are few things more satisfying to me than a book that makes me completely abandon my own reality for the sake of the characters within the pages.

This entire series is a master class in accomplishing just that.

When I crack open a Rembrandt Stone book, do not need me. I cannot help you right now. I’m busy assisting my time-traveling, crime-fighting, Eve-loving, trying-to-make-all-things-right buddy. This is serious business. We have cases to solve. Lives to save. Timelines to royally alter.

These books are not for the faint of heart, and this one? The fourth installment of this trippy series? It hurts like the devil, but it makes me physically need the next book like I’ve never needed a book before. FIX IT, JESUS.

If you aren’t reading this series, get your life together and read this series. I’m not being bossy. I’m just trying to make sure you don’t miss out on this incredible reading experience because I care about you and I assume you enjoy great books.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel. All expressed opinions belong to me.

"There will always be storms, Rem. But we can't live in fear of them, We weather them. We get stronger. And then we get back up and go on in the beauty of a new sunrise."

Oh my word. This book. It kept me up quite late into the night and had me dreaming about the characters even after I finished the book. When I didn't think anything more could be thrown in Rem's way, I am proven wrong. Again. This adventure is a bit different since Rem gets to stay in one timeline and it gets really (really) interesting since our time traveler is now stuck in one timeline with only one life to live well. The story is absolutely unpredictable and thus extremely exciting; Rem's conversational tone brings us into his center of being and lets us experience these "curve balls and boomerangs" of his life right next to him.

There is a lot of untangling of emotions and truths from Rem's heart in this one. His first person voice is still witty and engaging with his self-deprecating humor but a little softer, a little more thoughtful, and definitely more mature. We see so much of Rem's insecurities, heart, and soul as a father and husband in this book. The Jackson case is still open in this timeline but melding of memories from different timelines and clues from this timeline help Rem better understand the murderer they're chasing. But so many things.....so many unpredictable things push Rem to a new low of desperation and I'm not sure how or where we will find him in the next book.

It's such an incredible book that feels like a turning point in the series. It's book 4 and the series must be read in order to fully enjoy Rem's time travels. If you like action-packed, adrenaline-filled crime-fighting fiction with a dose of time travel, you will absolutely love this book and series. I received the book from authors and via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.

Set in Stone has a unique plot in that Remington doesn't have the watch that allows him to send him back into the past because it's missing. For the time being, he's where he is in this timeline getting acclimated to his surroundings and trying to catch a serial killer. Set in Stone is more action-packed and has surprises and heartache.

I’m totally blown away by this series, and when I received the advance copy of Set in Stone, I started reading and didn’t stop until it was finished. Book four of The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone picks up right where book three left off. Rem’s former life is still gone, but he’s with Eve, so that’s a plus. Of course, if you’ve followed the series, you know the tragedy he’s experienced and while he knows he’s not supposed to change the past, he wants to fix the disaster that’s happened. In book three, Rem’s trying to solve a cold case involving a serial killer who’s killed thirty-eight women. This storyline continues in Set in Stone. Just as in past books, there are more twists and turns that keep you constantly guessing about what will happen next. One problem Rem is facing this time is his time-traveling mechanism is missing. If he can’t find the watch, he’s got to make peace with the timeline he’s in, but even though things could be worse, he wants his old life back, the one he didn’t appreciate when he had it. There’s a ton of action and Rem and Eve just get better and better. All the key secondary characters are back and add real depth to the continuing saga. I’m totally invested in these characters and want everything to work out for them all. Just like the other books, Set in Stone ends with a shocking cliffhanger. It will rock your time-traveling world for sure. That’s all I can say. I’m sitting on pins and needles awaiting book five. This is such an awesome series.

SET IN STONE continues this thrilling sci-fi detective series where one man's choices in the past affect his future as well as victims of the crimes he's trying to solve. More is unveiled in this next installment and the stakes are even higher. Highly recommended to fans of the series and the series as a whole to those who enjoy cold-case detective series with a sci-fi twist!

I basically devoured this book. Like all the other books in the series, once you start it's hard to stop, and then at the end you're dying to read the next book. I think I'm even more impatient to read the next two books with how this one ends. If they were released now, I wouldn't wait at all to read them.

Rembrandt matures a bit in this book. He's more aware of his choices and what he has, but he's also still his brash self and continues to make a couple of mistakes while he tries to fit all the pieces together. The emotion is really raw in this book, so there is a bit of a roller-coaster feel until the intensity ramps up towards the end. I really love both Rem and Eve as well as some of the other characters. They continue to grow on me as I've read each of these books. I finally figured things out, although Rem has not (my one issue with this book as I really wanted him to pay attention instead of rushing things or relaxing his guard). I'm hoping it doesn't take him too long to get there in the next book because otherwise I can see things going terribly wrong... much more so than they have previously.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This was another thrilling ride with Rembrandt Stone. I definitely recommend this series to those who enjoy the genre with a time-travel twist. I seriously can't wait for the next book and am dying having to wait between each installment.

Content: Some innuendo and closed-door scenes between a married couple, references to a miscarriage, an ongoing serial murderer and other violence (not excessively detailed) applicable to the story.
Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through JustRead Tours, which did not require a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Oh my word the excitement and suspense continues. This series is unlike anything I have ever read, and each novel just makes it more interesting, more intriguing, and makes me wish it would never end. Even though I must find out how it's all going to come together. Must isn't even the right word. I have to find out. Like now.

But seriously, the writing is so full of action, suspense, and plot twists to keep you on your toes. It is non stop and I am a-okay with that. I'm not kidding when I say you won't be able to put this book down. Heck, if you haven't read the series you'll binge it. I did. All four books I read within a few days. And then immediately asked myself why I hadn't read them sooner.

I can't imagine having three authors help write a book is an easy task. But somehow these three amazing authors have come together and penned a story in such a fantastic fashion. You have a flawed hero. Yes, he has good intentions, but just doesn't fully understand the consequences of his actions. But he start to understand as the story progresses. His love for his wife is so sweet, and it really shines in this installment of the series.

And wow that ending. Once again I am left with my jaw hanging down, not knowing what to think, and biting my nails until I can get the next book in my hands. The creativity in the pages of this book is amazing - from the watch, to the descriptive narratives, to the little things that just grab you by the head and don't let you go. All while giving us a good reminder - we may think we want to change the past, but in reality if we were to do that, we might not be living the same life we are today. Is it worth the risk?

I highly recommend this book. Correction, this series. You do need to read them in order to understand what's going on. It's worth it. I promise! Just make sure to carve out a large chunk of time to read it in. You will not want to put it down for a second!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In her book The Story Equation, Susan May Warren talks about how in a well-written book the main character must have a dark moment.

Well, Rembrandt Stone has dark moment after dark moment in David James Warren’s time travel series about him and it’s enough to make a grown woman cry. Each of the books provides a heart-pounding, never-ending emotional roller coaster ride for readers, and the latest installment, the fourth book, Set in Stone, is no exception.

Just when the reader thinks Rembrandt is going to get back to where he should be, after fixing some mistakes he’s made in past timelines, the authors send you skittering down the emotional slope again where you sit and wonder if you — er I mean — Rembrandt will ever see the light of a hopeful day again.

I have truly enjoyed these novels so far (there are two more set to be released) and I’m going to be brutally honest, I wasn’t sure if I would or not. When I started these books and signed up for this tour, I simply wanted to try something different by two authors I enjoy and one guy I hadn’t heard of yet. I’m not usually a reader of time traveler stories, despite being a fan of Doctor Who, but this one held my attention through all four books. The novels held my attention so well that I am literally vibrating with anticipation at reading the final two books in the series set for release in the fall and winter.

Thankfully, these books are being released in three-month (or so) increments so book five will come out Oct. 5 and book six a little earlier on November 23 (which also happens to be my husband’s birthday and my brother and his wife’s 25th anniversary).

I don’t know how this series will end, and I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t read it yet, but I want the authors to know that things better work out for my favorite characters or I am going to need a box of chocolates and box of tissues mailed to me personally by each one of them. It will be the only way I will make it through my grief.
It helps to know when you start the series that there are more books to come and there is still a chance it will all work out okay.

What is fun about a time travel series, especially when the book is about a character traveling back and forth in their own timeline, is that there are a plethora of twists the plot can take and paths the character can walk. This series reminds me a lot of those “choose your own ending” books, but instead of the reader being able to choose the endings we want, we are at the mercy of two men and one woman to bring us the ending we so desire.

However, we the readers have to remember that the authors have their own endings in mind, and we, or at least I, trust them to write the ending that is best for Rembrandt, Eve, Burke, Booker, and everyone else we’ve come to love.

The bottom line: 5 stars out of 5

Set in Stone, book 4 of the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series by David James Warren, is set in Rembrandt’s present…his altered present. This is a series that absolutely must be read in order because of all the diverging paths that occur through Rembrandt’s time travel.

Rembrandt is almost content with this version of his life…almost, but there are still pieces missing he wants back. With Russian mafia, the Jackson killer, and someone who may be after Rembrandt for personal reasons, there is no shortage of intensity in this book.

And while Remembrandt comes across as cocky more often than not, he’s such a likable character, I can’t help but cheer for him. The team of David Warren, James Rubart, and Susan May Warren is a powerhouse that draws readers in and holds onto them until the last page. And when you get to that last page? You are immediately ready for the next installment because of the way they leave you hanging. But I can’t even be mad about that because I know I’ll get (some) answers in two more months instead of another year!

Also, audio book fans, James Rubart is the amazing narrator for this series. I feel like I’m listening to Remembrandt himself.

Set in Stone
by David James Warren
Book 4 in the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series
Rating: 4/5

Wow. This series keeps getting better and better. The story picks up right where they left off in book 3. You must read the other three books before this one or else you will be confused.

“I’m starting to think that no matter what I do, what timeline I’m in, how many times I go back to fix my past, I’m going to forget something.”

Rembrandt Stone no longer has the time-traveling watch that Booker gave him. He resigns himself to live with what he did in the past and try to find the serial killer in the present. His heart is broken over the lives lost but he won’t let anything stop him from finding Leo Fitzgerald. Eve is still his wife and he is acting as interim chief of police.

“I’ve spent my entire life looking back. Wishing I’d done something differently. And…I just keep screwing it up.”

Can Rem and Eve find out how to catch the killer? Can they find a way to overcome the grief of the past?

I really enjoyed this installment. There are some reveals that are interesting and only make me want to continue reading. I really enjoyed getting to see more of Rem and Eve’s relationship as they investigate the whereabouts of the killer while also juggling some facets of Eve’s past that Rem can’t remember happening. His doubts and regrets really come back to haunt him and affect the decisions he makes. I eagerly await the next book.

Highly recommend this series if you enjoy time-traveling detective stories that will keep you up at night.

PG-13 content.

Wow!
This just keeps getting better and better and just when I'm sure I know what would happen next, there comes a curve ball that has me reeling and wondering so what next.
This book is a little different and just as good as the previous ones maybe even better. We get to see Rem in this book handle things in a much different way still witty but thoughtful reflecting more on himself as a father and husband and trying to understand more about this person he's chasing. You want to know more you want understand what is happening. Nothing else matters really. That's how I feel about this books.
This one was just as catching and now I can't wait to know what happens next.

This is book four in a six book series. It has all of the key elements a good suspense book should have including twists that have you seeing stars. It does not take long in this book for the author to throw in a very interesting surprise which I will not mention so as to not spoil it. Another interesting dynamic to this book is that for a good portion of the novel, Rembrandt does not have the watch and you are left wondering when or if he will get it back. This book grabs you in from the very beginning, makes you not want to put it down, and keeps you enthralled until the very end.

I get so wrapped up in these books...and then I reach the end, and it is NOT an ending I wanted to read.
I need to read the next book. NOW.
Sigh
This book is the fourth installment in this riveting Rembrandt Stone series...and I have a love/hate feeling about this one same as all the earlier ones!

I loved the story. But I HATED the ending. Why??!! Why oh why must these authors do this to torture us poor readers??!! If only they'd release the next book sooner...it would save me some mental anguish... lol...seriously, it's all good!

I loved reading and getting to know Rem even better. this book adds a new twist. His time travel watch is gone. And now he's stuck in the timeline he's found himself in, hoping to be able to make things better without messing anything up too terribly.

Seemingly all is going well...until...oops! That's where I have to stop that train of thought. You will need to read the book to see what I mean.

There are so many twists and turns, and one is never sure just which is the best option, and which way is truly the right way.

If you enjoy suspense, please read this book! (and yes--this series absolutely must be read in order, so if you haven't read the earlier books, go do that right now!)

This is the fourth time that I've been caught up in Rembrandt Stone's adventures, and let me tell you, I am once again befuddled, amazed, and eager for more! You see, Rem has been able to travel back and forth in time, because of a very special watch, but now, he is actually 'settled' in one time. There are still many questions, but there are also snippets of information that explain some of what has occurred in the previous three books. Rem is still solving crimes, but we also get to see more of his personal life, and get to know another side of this intriguing man. Rem is a husband and father, but then, in a powerful, heartrending scene, there are events that provoke Rem into taking one more 'trip'.

Set in Stone is a thrilling story filled with action, danger, and a gamut of emotions, and I can't wait to read the next book in this astonishing series, The Lies of Rembrandt Stone. If you're looking for non-ending suspense, grab a copy of this great book by David James Warren.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Set in Stone is the best one yet! This installment has Rem stuck in his new present timeline. With his time-traveling watch missing, there's no way to go back to try to fix things. He's stuck with what he's got, for now, so he does his best to get acquainted with things and make himself at home. I thought it was a nice change to watch him try to acclimate to a new life instead of going back in time again to attempt to find a way to get his old life back.

Like I've come to expect from this series, there was a lightning-fast pace that had me racing to the conclusion in record time. This one took some very surprising turns that I never saw coming. I was left shocked, anxious, and heartbroken. The next book can't come out soon enough. I can't stop thinking about that ending!

Woah! That was intense!

Rembrandt (whose character reminds me of a Tom Cruise in one of the Mission Impossible movies) takes several beatings and keeps on ticking. He's pushed to his limits in this book. I still find him likable and at times, funny. Some of the things that happened are a little predictable.

The suspense is getting more intense and situations are getting graver. This version of time seems to have a little more drama involved. It's the closest to his original timeline from the beginning of the story though. There are several things that are said that leave me questioning their suspect (I have an idea of who the real suspect is).

Rating: pg-13 -physical violence, gun violence, some language
Language: some mild profanity
Recommend: yes

Holy moly! What an ending to this one! I won’t give anything away but it was definitely a race to see what happens and now I NEED the next book!

I will say that Rem made me a little frustrated in this one with his very protective (I would maybe call it over protective) nature but I also understand the character arc so it totally fits.

Ok can’t wait to see what happens!!!

I recommend for: fans of crime fiction, mystery, detective stories, time travel, and sweet romance.

Another exciting time travel adventure from Rembrandt Stone. This story focuses mainly on the "present" that he's changed. Some things are great - he's managed to fix a few things. But other situations are out of control.

Just a warning - it's another cliffhanger until the next installment comes out. But this one was one of my favorites in the series. I like following Rem as he tries to catch up in the present from a past he never lived.

Oh wow, this one is a heartbreaker. Rembrandt has landed in yet another time frame and trouble seems to follow him no matter where he goes or what year he goes to. Time travel can be dangerous. This series is a different kind of time travel book that I have found to be so intriguing. Loving all these books and completely ready for #5.

Set In Stone continues the story of Rembrandt. I feel like all these separate books feel like one continuous book. They are so easy to read and hard to put down. This story had surprises and the ending was crazy. I'm curious to see what happens in the next book. A little disappointed with certain language, although rare and mild, it isn't necessary (in my opinion).

For every question each new installment of this series answers, it seems like five more pop up! In Set in Stone, Rem has made it back to a timeline he thinks he can live with. He has Eve back, and he is at the top of his game in his career, on the cusp of finally finding the serial killer who has been haunting him through time. The action doesn’t let up as his search takes him from the streets of Minneapolis to the beaches of Miami, delving into his wife's unknown (to him) past. Of course, nothing is that easy when you’re dealing with time travel, and things quickly unravel in ways he could never have imagined.

Rem's story is a powerful reminder to stop and enjoy the happy ending you have, instead of wishing away your what-ifs and regrets. You never know how good you have it until you change the past and find out your happy life is gone! The plotting and pacing of this book (and series) are incredible, with so many interconnected timelines to bring together. Each installment provides plenty of suspense and action but leaves more to be discovered in the next book. The last two books in the series are going to be a wild ride, and I can’t wait to see how these brilliant authors tie it all together!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Great job in surprising me! I won't say why (that would be a spoiler) but I loved having this unexpected journey with Rem and Eve in the new present. I wanted answers to what Rem doesn't know just as badly as he wanted them (and neither of us got some of those answers). Off to begin book #5.

David James Warren's Rembrandt Stone books always are a literary thrill!

Each one is like a tightly-woven movie, winding and winding in its storyline until your fingers flip faster and faster through the pages.

I read this on a two-hour flight, I couldn't put it down. A fantastic novel!!
