“They say that without hope, people perish. I say hope crushes the soul.”

Today I have that feeling, you know the one, where you waited so long for something, and now that you have it...that bittersweet what now feeling?

This final story in the series had it all! Leaving this reader with hope throughout reading this series, it was great to see Hope being a strong theme in this book. There was cold cases to solve, romances to love, WHAT moments and me scream-reading at Rem to put the pieces to discover the Jackson killer (who I guessed correct in book 5 - may I be Rem's crime fighting partner?)

“I don't know what it is, but I have learned that I can live with the past mistakes much easier than without the blessings of today.”

I can go on and on about how great this series was, how the authors took it to the next level, how, if you are patient, you will grow along with Rem in his journey to correct things, to see the truth and come face to face with that and God, but...READ THIS SERIES!

“What if it's not our regrets that make us who we are, but the choices after the regrets?”

I hope to reread this series soon on audio!

“They say that without hope, people perish. I say hope crushes the soul.”

“Maybe the journey isn’t about fixing things, but…the journey itself.”

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

What an amazing ride and journey this book series has been. And Book 6, Heart Of Stone, is no exception. This book and series has everything I look for in books: suspense, grittiness, mystery, humor, good vs. evil, multilayered characters, and profound faith elements. And for someone who doesn’t like romance in Christian books, this series is the exception. I found so much of it to be genuine, from the characters’ feelings to their dialogue to their actions. Which I admit, can be a bit ironic how genuine it feels considering it is a time travel book where suspension of belief is required. But of course, this book and series is so much more more than this. It is a faith journey that just so happens to mash together time travel and detective crime fiction flawlessly together. This is definitely a crown jewel in Christian fiction and I can’t believe that I almost passed over reading this when it first came out. I’m glad I saw all the positive Goodreads reviews and gave it a try!

What was great about Heart Of Stone is that it wraps up the entire series perfectly. For the first five books, you come to expect that Rembrandt Stone will do his best to solve a crime while adversely affecting his future with an breathtaking cliffhanger. All these mistakes or alterations were a learning experience and I really liked the theme of how we don’t go through life perfectly and it’s the mistakes and the seasons of valleys that make us who we are. And it’s trust in God that allows us to see the blessings of our lives.

My only complaint in this book is that the villain was not a surprise. I was expecting a twist but that’s okay. Sometimes the journey more than makes up for it.

Goodness, where to begin? This series vastly outperformed even my wildest expectations and this final installment couldn't have been more perfectly written. 2021 has been a wonderful year full of unforgettable books and The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone Series is hands down my favorite of the year. Days, weeks and months were counted down until the next hit...erm, installment. Countless conversations had amongst fellow fans, speculating just how the author would wrap up Rembrandt's adventures in this last book.

This series has made me laugh, cry, scream, howl in frustration, and peer through fingers bracing for what gut-wrenching shenanigans would derail Rembrandt at the turn of the next page. But mostly this series made me cheer passionately for these people, these characters that have become like family to me. The author did an extraordinary job of writing not only Rembrandt and his wife, Eve (best characters ever), but the entire assortment of characters surrounding those two. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and the unknowns kept me guessing up until the end.

What a perfectly satisfying, leave me with happy tears in my eyes (at 2:00 am, mind you), how did they wrap it all up so well, kind of series closer.

My heart is still pounding. This series has been the most intense, thrilling, page turning series I have ever read. Every single book had had me sitting at the edge of my seat. Holding my breath. Ignoring the outside world. And Heart of Stone was probably the most intense of them all.

Oh. My. Word.

This book. This story. I have been trying to put all the pieces together since book one. I mean how in the world was Rembrandt going to get his happy ending? And would it look the same as the very beginning? It's extremely hard to talk about this installment of the book, well any of them honestly, without giving spoilers. So, I'll just say this - this ending was better than I could have imagined. I mean, there were moments I was barely breathing, but for good reason. The way the characters were all brought together, how the bad guys were found, the story behind why everything had happened, and even a surprise twist that I just kind of sat there for awhile smiling about.

I can't really put into words how I feel about this book, or the series as a whole. It has been amazing ride, and I am so very sorry it's over. I hope these three talented authors come together and bring us another series. I will be the first in line to preorder! I highly recommend this series. Just be prepared to buckle up, and go on the most thrilling ride of your life.

Brilliant series, and a great end to it all. So often, the last book of a series is so focused on wrapping up threads it misses the PUNCH you want. Not this one! Whoa... Excellent storytelling here.

I love the whole series so much that I'll be buying the paperbacks to have on the shelf as well as the audiobooks. Now... how do we convince the authors to do a spin-off series. I want one about Leo or even Zeke.

There’s nothing better than a series that keeps you on your toes, and The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone does exactly that! It’s the perfect, stunning conclusion to Rembrandt Stone’s story. After five hops through time where Stone struggles to solve cold cases and fix the world around him, his story wraps up here – and it won’t happen in the way that you expect.

The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series kicked off with a bang – it was full of action and excitement, but there wasn’t a great deal of inspirational action. That did leave room for character growth, however, and that element has ramped up more with each subsequent release until all those pieces came together with a bang in this story. I think that slow burn makes this series accessible for readers with or without their own faith: everyone who loves action-packed suspense. With a male protagonist, it’s the perfect series for men to read, and I feel like there aren’t as many of those out there. The lessons in this book aren’t just of general faith, but also those that men of faith should know.

It’s been exciting to read this series as it released, and Heart of Stone caps off the series perfectly; but it’s also been really hard to wait for the next book after finishing the prior one. If you haven’t started this series yet, now’s the perfect time – collect all six, clear your calendar for a few days, and settle in to binge read the epic adventure story of the hunky Rembrandt Stone. I can’t think of a better winter plan.

I want to give a warning at the beginning of my review. You are going to need time to recover after you finish this story. Consider yourself warned!

I was SO ready for this story, but I was was NOT ready for this series to be done. This past year tagging along with Rembrandt and all of the other characters has been quite the ride! My heart rate was always high as I dove into each new story. Same went for this one!

I'm still trying to grasp everything in this last story! You wonder how authors will bring so many threads together of a story, and they did it seamlessly. All of the dots connected and came together in a last ditch effort for Rem to find a time he could live in.

Much to say that I can't. The twists and turns keep you turning the page, heart rate raising as you go. But the need to know is so great, you have no choice but to take it all in! Once again, one of my FAVORITE parts of the story is when Rem talks to us like we're right there with him because, hello, we are! Right. There!

I also love how Rem's faith evolved, especially through this story. You could see through each story that Rem is being pulled in so many directions, but Hope is what seems to elude him. I appreciate how the authors incorporated God revealing himself to Rem through so many situations and people!

You guys, do NOT miss this story... this series! It's incredible and will always be one of my all time favorites!!

“Living one day at a time. Taking the world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that He will make all things right…if I surrender… It sounds like a time traveler’s prayer, doesn’t it?”

Ah, Rem. What an incredible adventure it’s been. It’s an unforgettable journey of spiritual discovery, costly forgiveness, learning to let go of control and fears and haunting regrets, and finding the courage to trust. I loved that I was never sure of what would happen to Rem this last go around time travel. My heart was literally in my throat the whole entire book. The authors really step it up in this final book of the six book series and they start Rem in an almost unthinkable present, pull him through another changed past to finally start unraveling the mystery of the unsolved murders, and land him back into a present that will have you bawling. If you had to pick one book series in 2021 to read, this is it.

I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.

A fantastic conclusion to the series. I will admit that I was confused at times from all the different time jumps and what actually had happened. The ending was CRAZY and I didn't expect a certain thing that happened. Good read, even though it's not a realistic one. 😊

His final trip will be the most important...

This is it. Either Rembrandt Stone gets it right this time or all will be lost... I've been eagerly anticipating Heart Of Stone since picking up the first True Lies Of Rembrandt Stone book several months ago. Surprisingly, this final book in the series from the combined talent of David James Warren turned out to be my favorite of them all. Honestly, I didn't really expect that in the slightest.

Yes, I was a bit sorry to be saying goodbye to Rem, Eve, Booker, and the others, but I was also excited to finally get answers. For five books Rem has struggled and fought to control the outcome of his life. Each choice just seems to make things spiral even more out of control. But, maybe that's what he needs. To let go and let God. Maybe when he does so things will finally slide into place where they always should have been...

But, as much as this book asks some of the deeper questions of life...it's also entertaining as all get out. There were so many twists and turns in Heart Of Stone that I wondered a time or two if even James Rubart, Susan May Warren, and David Curtis Warren could possibly bring it all around to the ending I wanted and one Rem could live with. I loved seeing all of the various threads from each of Rem's time travel timelines in the previous books finally come together in one, slightly gritty, and riveting conclusion.

The best book in the True Lies Of Rembrandt Stone series, Heart Of Stone is a fitting finale to a thrilling story from the combined expertise and talent of David James Warren. This is one series that you won't want to miss even if time travel is not your usual genre of choice. Just remember, be stalwart....

Reread update:loved it again. Of course. Seeing all the threads come together in the intense yet way yet absolutely so satisfying. So fantastic. Will remain forever one of my all time favorite series!
Original review:
This series is an experience.
don't have the right words. I simply have feelings that I will attempt to express.
Nervous, fearful to start because of how the previous book ended and a bit of sadness because it is the last one.
I dove in anyway.
Suspense, joy, love, cheering.
This book brought everything together.
There were many tears in reading. Especially the very end.
This book was everything I hoped for.
It was so touching with how the characters have grown and what they have come through.
It has been a wild ride. And worth every bit!
Rembrandt's journey was incredibly touching through this book. You see his struggles at there core, and how he chooses to face the future.
Love, love,love.
I can't recommend this series enough.
Though I recieved an early copy from the publisher, I am going to be buying a physical copy for my shelf. All opinions in this review are my own and honest. I can't wait to read the series again!

This book. I don't often use the word "weep," but this book made me weep. It's intense and it's fulfilling and it totally got me.

The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone has been a hard series for me to read. I couldn't look away, I was on the edge of my seat, and yet there were things that bothered me. Both in regard to the plot and the content. Here in this final installment, if you thought Rem had been on the verge of losing everything before—well, just hang on. He's really about to lose everything. So for one last time, he heads to the past to see what difference he can make.

But he's learned things along this journey. He's not invincible. He's ready to move in humility instead of with the hot headed impulsiveness which has gotten him to this point.

And somewhere along the way, he's begun taking God seriously.

If I'm being honest, the faith aspect here was a little deus ex machina. While there have been small threads woven throughout, the culmination seemed forced. And I'm not sure that all the content that was included in the earlier novels was worth wading through to make it to this point.

That being said, if you do decide to take this fast-paced, heart-pounding adventure, you won't hate the ending. I'm not going to spoil anything, because after all this time there's no telling which iteration of his life Rem will discover. But the weeping that I talked about? Yeah. This is where it happened.

I still don't feel like I can fully recommend this series, but if you are aware that there are some issues and are prepared to lose portions of your own timeline due to the way Rembrandt Stone will completely suck you in, well, I wouldn't discourage you either.

As much as I enjoyed this specific time travel dramatic series, I was glad for it to come to an end. The more Stone kept going back in time to fix mistakes or to try to make the future better-he only made it worse again and again. It was heartbreaking at times. and should be a real life lesson to the rest of us that we should be looking towards the future and not always back at the past and what we wished we could change.

I loved the concept of this series and I definitely recommend reading the books all in order for it to make sense. I don’t usually read time travel books but I am a big fan of Susan May Warren’s books so I decided to give this series a try and I’ve loved it!

Lots of emotions and drama as the story unfolds again and again over the series of books. I liked the main characters Stone and Eve as their relationship progresses and changes. Good, clean Christian fiction series-highly recommend!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Heart of Stone
by David James Warren
Book 6 in the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series
Rating: 4.5/5

What an ending! Such a whirlwind of a book and series. It's been so fun being a part of the Rembrandt Stone world this whole year. I have enjoyed each and every book and it's a bit bittersweet for the series to end. You definitely need to read the other five books first since it's a continuing story. This series would make a great TV series.

"They say that without hope, people perish. I say hope crushes the soul."

The story is well written and fast-paced filled with the characters I am now familiar with. I am rooting for Eve and Rem and their epic love story. Time travel is always an interesting literary device and I wish there was a little bit more explanation about how it all works but I think the authors did their best to explain it in an understandable manner.

This book really asked some deeper questions of Rembrandt and his faith in God. Of all the books, this last one definitely has the most about faith and prayer than the others. It's always interesting how the authors incorporate faith into a sci-fi novel.

"What if it’s not our regrets that make us who we are, but the choices after the regrets?"

Highly recommend if you enjoy time-traveling detective stories with high stakes, action and a love that spans decades.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Okay, you guys, this is actually such a hard review to write without giving spoilers! So all I’m going to say is… this book was just as much of a rollercoaster as the rest of the series!! And when you got to the end… the rollercoaster ride was one hundred percent worth it!! This was the absolute perfect ending to the series & if you want to know more, you’re just going to have to read it for yourself!!

But I will tell you that there were tears and anguish… and there was joy! My heart broke, my heart smiled… there were bittersweet moments and there was closure! And that IS all I’m going to say!! 😊😍

Well, except that this series is an absolute must-read!! Ridiculously well written (seriously, some of the most well-written suspense I’ve ever read!! Anyone who can pack that much depth into a novella length novel is absolute goals!!), characters I will never forget (& intend to revisit time and again!) and a story that takes you on the wildest, most unpredictable, crazy whirlwind of a ride, both in terms of action and emotion!!! Oh, and did I mention the brilliant 80s soundtrack? Um… yes, this series has a soundtrack… like actually… and it’s so good!

Well done @susanmaywarren @jameslrubart and @davidcurtiswarren

Well done. There are truly no more words.

Except… if you haven’t started this series yet, what on earth are you waiting for?!?!

Thank you so much to the authors for the early review copy I received. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Heart of Stone by David James Warren hits the final, explosive conclusion to the 6 part mini-series beginning with Cast the First Stone. If readers have been reading these books as they have been released, they will be excited to obtain the final book and have the full story come to life. If readers are not familiar with the whole series, I highly recommend reading them in order. Heart of Stone has a few surprises that are important to the overall arch of the plot, so readers would not want to be confused to some of the reference to items that occurred in a previous story. Overall, Heart of Stone was a high octane suspense chase through the pages of Rem’s life as he tries to finally return his life back to normal. What a wonderful story! I loved the way Warren kept the reader guessing at the end of each novel, begging me to return to the next installment, which luckily enough, I did not have to wait to long to read. Highly recommend this series for fans of lots of movement and suspense in their novels.

Well done! I thoroughly enjoyed this series.

I liked the touch of Faith it had throughout and how Rembrandt finally understood what he needed to do. I loved his and Eve's relationship in the past tense and present. I think it truly showed what a soul mate really is. I appreciated the way the authors treated marriage and the process of getting to it. I understand that some physical situations will occur, but they never crossed the line (in my opinion) at least not with the present Rembrandt.

I think the ending was perfect. I have to admit I wasn't sure it would turn out the way it did. I was preparing myself to accept whatever came. Andrew (Burke), Shelby, Chief Booker, and the rest of the family were such a joy to get to know. Outside of a view editing mistakes, the writing was great. I found it easy to follow and enjoy.

Rating: PG-13 -some violence
Language: implied swearing

This entire series was a wild ride, one that I’m thankful to announce ended on a triumphant high after some seriously traumatic lows. Rembrandt grew tremendously as a character over the course of these six novellas, and I grew to love not only him, but the supporting cast: Eve, Burke, Booker, Danny, Shelby, Art, Zeke, Frankie, Asher, and more. This trio of authors did a wonderful job crafting compelling characters and a unique, intricately layered plot.

Aside from the aforementioned triumph and how well everything tied together at the end, the other element of this final installment that stood out to me was the faith. That wasn’t very present in the earlier half of the series, as it wasn’t really a part of Rembrandt’s life. But by this last leg of his journey, his heart has softened toward God, and he’s beginning to see that, not only can he not fix everything on his own, but that God has been orchestrating the good this entire time. At one point in their investigation in the past, Rem attends an AA meeting to garner some information on a suspect. While there, he hears the expanded Serenity Prayer. This was an especially poignant inclusion in the story, as it spoke so deeply to Rembrandt’s character, to his struggles to embrace the life he has instead of chasing something just beyond his grasp. It’s a really apt time traveller’s prayer.

I really enjoyed this series overall, blowing through all six installments in five evenings. The fourth and fifth installments were frustratingly heavy and ended in some very dark places. But the brightness of this finale makes those dark places feel worthwhile in hindsight. If you’re looking for a unique take on time travel and police procedurals, with a strong romance and lots of delightful references to 80s rock songs, I can’t recommend this series highly enough. Just make sure you have access to all six novellas before you pick up the first one, because these are nearly impossible to put down!

This book deserves so much more than five stars.

This entire series has been my favorite book journey this year and this is arguably the best series I have read in a really long time, maybe ever.

Rem is a charismatic, relatable character. His journey of regret, solving crimes and finding peace is one that captures your attention from the first chapter of book one. This book was the best of the best, in my opinion. It brought his journey to an end in the absolute best possible way.

I really hope we haven't heard the last from Rembrandt Stone. I could listen to him narrate his life to me all day long. Even if he's through with time travel, I'm sure he's not done saving people and making a difference. And I hope we will get to tag along for more of his present day adventures.

Awesome series, totally loved it. One book had a couple of words that shouldn't be in Christian fiction books - hell as a curse word, and "pissed", but I didn't catch any others. I have read time travel books before, but this tops them. Very well written and ingenious plots, and Rembrandt was an great and likable character

What an exciting conclusion to this series. Complete
with surprises, twists and turns, and terrific characters, Heart of Stone weaves the messed-up timelines into something more. Rem and Eve were put in the wringer for good. In this breathless conclusion, you don't know what will happen to Rem until you have read it for sure.

What a wild, nail-biting, heart-pounding, nerve-wracking ride this series has been! Heart of Stone brings Rem's story to a perfectly satisfying conclusion, although he definitely has to work for it. His growth and transformation culminate in this book, as he comes to grips with the past in order to create a future he can live with. This time, with help from some unexpected places, Rem doesn't have to go it alone anymore - and he just might pull it off.

One of my favorite parts of this book is the conversational writing style - I love the way Rem's inner narrative draws the reader into the story and helps us keep track of all of the timelines he has lived in past books. While the action and intrigue keep the story moving, some of my favorite moments are Rem and Eve's quieter moments of reflection and conversation. Everything about this book (and the series) is incredible - with compelling characters and intricately woven storylines, it is the perfect combination of romance, action, and "I-can't-believe-that-just-happened" moments. I was on the edge of my seat and holding my breath from beginning to end!

The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone is, without a doubt, my favorite series of 2021. Drop whatever you're doing and read these books - you won't regret it!

Wow. This was a great ending to a great series. Absolutely loved it from start to finish. I may have said this on one of the other books, but I'm glad I didn't know about the series until all six books had released. That allowed me to binge one right after the other. I'm going to miss Remington, but it feels good to know he found the way home.

Okay, really a 3.5, BUT.. the loose ends are wrapped up. I just felt it was superficial.
Let me put it this way:
If you've seen an action film where the lead actor or actors don't really emote or just go through the motions, that's how I felt about this. Don't get me wrong—it had all the necessary plot and action sequences and was a quick read, but I just kept thinking the whole time that there's something missing in this series. (Of course, there are times when a mindless shoot 'em-up action film is fine; it's just that the main character in this series is also a writer, so, yes, I expected more.)

And the deeper layer of what the characters are going through, the horror/anguish should have been more on the page, at least for me. Cause some of the stuff Rembrandt went through, would mess up anyone.

HEART OF STONE concludes this character's journey in trying to repair his future while somehow escaping danger for him and those he cares about. Full of suspense and action, as well as a touch of inspiration and romance. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy this final installment!

This story, like all the others in this series, picks up right after the last book. Rem has to figure out what to do to fix things while simultaneously adapting to who he is in this timeline. I loved that finally, finally he has a bit of help. There is one important player there to give him some insight and some other characters to give him some help. That aspect made this story not feel as disorienting as the others did at points because Rem feels a bit more stable. There is also a moment where he's in a religious AA group and he finds some grounding in faith. In trusting someone other than himself to help make things right. The inspirational element didn't feel forced or preachy, although it did feel slightly jarring because up to this point in the series there was no religious element except the occasional mention. However, for Rem personally, who has only really trusted himself and also blamed himself, this has a huge affect for him. The danger and suspense are weaved throughout the story with some climatic moments, making for an intense read. These authors do such a fabulous job in keeping readers guessing. I knew who the villain was, but had no clue how it was all going to play out.

This series, for me, has been this mix of crazy, true crime, sci-fi, intense, romantic, fiction. It feels raw and genuine. Of course, I love the storyline because it definitely kept me turning the pages, but more than that, I love these characters! Rembrandt is this tough and smart detective with a million rough edges, and Eve, who can definitely hold her own, softens those edges, grounds him while also adding to his drive. Both of them honestly drive each other in their professions but also in who they are as people and what becomes important. They go around in circles a bit in this series, but I loved seeing things come to a head and then a conclusion in this final book. Not everything is easy or perfect, but it all works out perfectly for this series.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I have really enjoyed this series and this was a great ending. I would love to go back and read all six of these one after the other. It's a crazy, roller-coaster of a ride. I'm looking forward to seeing what this trio of authors do in the future, although I don't know that they could ever top Rembrandt Stone.

It’s bittersweet…reaching the conclusion of such an amazing story.
Lots of actions, and finally some answers.
It’s hard to know how much to say without giving anything away…
I thoroughly enjoyed Rem's story, but WHEW!! Those cliffhangers, though!
It was great to see him grow and change as a character.
I enjoyed seeing all the different scenarios and timelines he went through.
As far as this book in particular...well, it was a satisfying ending to an amazing series.
If you enjoy Suspense then def give this series a try!
It has to be read in order!!

Oh my heart!

The 6th book in a 6-book series starts with a bang. Rembrandt Stone, the time-traveling detective, has popped into another time stream with a new look: as a Russian mobster. He's got the close-cropped hair and the leather jacket to confirm it...along with intimate connections with Alexander Malakov and his mafiosi, and a new name: Staz. Malakov is seeking to establish an outpost in Minneapolis, and Staz/Rem is apparently is Malakov's right hand man/enforcer.

Surely our beloved main character couldn't sink so low?

But he has.

Rembrandt's look and associates may have changed, but his primary goal has not: to use the time-travel watch to regain his old life, the life where Eve was his wife and Ashley his little girl. He's still hoping that they are not lost to him forever. But his hopes have taken a beating; his efforts, thus far, have been fruitless. Yet he tries, over and over. If his own personal efforts (well, and also the knowledge he's gained about events in all his trips across the space-time continuum) can't regain him the life he has lost, what will?

Heart of Stone continues its rollercoaster ride for readers across time, suspense, action, and even love. You won't want to miss this conclusion to "The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone" series. I'd love to tell you more...but I don't want to spoil your ride. Get a copy of Heart of Stone. You'll be so glad you did.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I read this book in one sitting because I HAD to know what happened to my friend Rem, but also because this is edge-of-your-seat storytelling. And if you have any emotional investment in these characters or this story, you simply cannot quit it.

I had the highest hopes for this book because it is the finale of what has been a heart-wrecking but stunning series. I'm so pleased that it didn't disappoint! All of the trademark aspects of this series continue to ring true in the final installment, and my word, it is a feelings trip FOR SURE.

"Fix it Jesus" has been my motto from the beginning of this series and I will say that it reached maximum intensity in this one, largely because I knew it was the last one and it was absolutely imperative that we get it right.

Basically, this series is a whole trip and each book has put me through the wringer, but (heaven help me) each one has been worth it. And this last one? The one that wraps up our time with Rem and Eve and Booker and Burke and Shelby and Arthur and all the cold cases and that one truly awful bad person? It is *chef's kiss* perfection. This is how it's done, folks.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author. All expressed opinions belong to me.
