The Great American Bathroom Book had its beginnings on a cross-country flight, as Lan England started wishing he had a short summary of every classic he'd heard about but didn't have time to read.Lan decided he wasn't the only person who felt this way. He hired Stevens Anderson, an editor, who hired college professors and other bookworms who loved to read. The result was the The Great American Bathroom Book, Vol I, a collection of 130 2-page summaries from great books of all genres, from Don Quixote to The Road Less Traveled. Volume I also features 90 research overviews on subjects like "Putting Spark in Your Relationships", "Managing Conflict", "Time-saving Tips", and more.
Volume II features over 220 book summaries and a section of Quotes and Anecdotes. Volume III has more than 180 new summaries, as well as 8 Thought Collections and sections of Facts and Inquiries.
Kids, before there was the Internet, and long before Wikipedia, we used books—physical, page-turning books—to get information. Compact Classics, based out of Salt Lake City, did the corporeal equivalent to digital Wikipedia, and the subtitle is quite perfect: “More Single-Sitting Summaries of All-Time Great Books”. I acquired this as a hand-me-down in around 2005-6, and I’ve finally finished it. Six hundred pages of detailed and engaging 2-page summaries of hundreds of books you’ll probably never get around to reading, let alone knowing about, from the works of ancient Chinese philosophers to stuff published in 1992. I can’t think of a better book for the bathroom. Digital-detox yourself while hunched over and grab a book like this from your local thrift store.
Book I was good and this one was wonderful reading as well. I loved the trivia at the end of the book. Condensed summaries of a great many books from classics to modern were enjoyable and interesting to read. A perfect way to to take a trip down a literary lane full of enlightening reading.
Not what you think by the title it has alot of great literature, poetry, trivia, religion, philosophy, quotes and much more. Great, Great book. I recommend it highly!
