Ai Yazawa (Japanese: 矢沢あい, Yazawa Ai) is a Japanese manga author and illustrator. Her pen name comes from singer Eikichi Yazawa, of whom she is a fan. Yazawa started her comics career in 1985. She specialises in shojo manga (girls' comics). Most of her works have been serialised in the magazines 'Ribon', 'Cookie' and 'Zipper'. Yazawa's stories focus on young, often rebellious women and their relationships. The characters are always very stylish, and Yazawa herself is known for her sense of fashion. (She even attended a fashion school for some time after high school.) Among her most famous manga are Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai (I'm No Angel, 1992–1995), Neighborhood Story (1995-1998), Paradise Kiss (1999-2004), and Nana (2000-2009), the latter awarded a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2003. Some of these works have been adapted into anime and live action movies.
“Takumi is sooooo complex” this “Takumi had a terrible childhood” that, TAKUMI IS THE WORST PERSON IN THIS MANGA idgaf about his upbringing!!! His infantilization of Reira?? Telling his 15 yr old girlfriend to pay for half of her abortion?? I was like at last we see Takumi backstory and surely this will shed light on why he’s such an asshole! And it sure did! He’s always been one!
Wow, the Takumi bonus story at the end really made this manga for my. It's probably one of my favourite storylines. Takumi is so complex!! He seems to have a virgin complex with Reira which is why they never got together even though they seem like their in love with each other. Poor Hachi. It makes me mad he married Hachi even though he is in love with Reira and always has been :( Takumi is so confusing - he's such an asshole but he also is very reliable. Arg! I love that it was Yazu who came in to save the day for Takumi by loaning him money.
"When things are going good, he's your bro. When it's not so good, he's out? Why would I want to play with someone like that?" -Ren
"It's not your fault. I drove you to it. I drove Shin to it. But I didn't mean to take away your happiness. I didn't start Trapnest to do that to you guys." - Takumi
"Have I ever done anything for Yasu? I never thought a "thanks" would make me so happy." - Nana
For a millisecond everything is wonderful....Ren is having normal conversations with Nana...and they're behaving like a normal couple... But... Then the **** hits the fan!!
why can't anyone have a moment of peace? also, everyone needs therapy (me included). it's sad to see characters grow apart because they don't even talk or acknowledge any issues...but at the same time, i understand. i'm not sure i would talk either. last but not least, i feel a bit bad for not reading takumi's story but honestly i'm sick of him and don't want to see him any more than i have to. and even if learning more about him helps one understand, i'll still hate him, so it makes no difference. (maybe someday i'll come back and read it lol)
what would make a girl who had found it all to let slip through her fingers and abandon it all without even looking back? what happened and how many hearts were broken for this to happen? nana's future and past is hunting, but absorbing nonetheless

The Takumi bonus story was great--I don't loathe him any less but I can understand him a little better now. I love the complexity of all the characters in Nana! Keep 'em coming, Yazawa-sensei! The author's note was funny, too.
《When dawn comes, that memory gradually distances. Tonight, I will bring it to sleep with me so that I will not be taken away by the waves of the night.》
So close to the end of the manga... Three volumes left. The past few volumes have already felt like "the beginning of the end" for some of the character arcs, and this volume had big changes for the band.
As usual, spoiler quotes below, from Nana's POV (mostly narration between chapters... Several mentions of the waves in this volume):

Finally the story is feeling like earlier volumes. Still infuriating, as the relationships that I want to be done with are still going, but this volume was enjoyable. The side characters are becoming more interesting than both Nanas, which is a shame.
Also, the back and forth future bits are equally annoying (clever annoying. Not bad, but I still side-eye them.) because I'm baffled as to what is happening. But I do see that some of the things I hope change do not. I'm still eagerly awaiting the next book, though!
A more spoiler-ey part:
The japanese view of pop culture/media use of drugs and other scandal intrigues me greatly. It's just something we don't face here in the US. A marijuana bust, shop lifting, or dangerous DUIs will sell records and get online views, not complete black listing and pulling everything off the shelves. It's an interesting view. I hope people aren't too lost by the events in this volume---that's how it is in Japan. Well, a lot of countries. It reminds me of the band Paycho Le Cemu. Daishi was not unlike Shin.
Alot of drama 💀 Idk what to think of what Ren said to Nana. I feel bad for Shin, im actually liking Yasu and Miu. I also genuinely enjoy the future panels im not confused probably cause i know what happens anyways 🥲
Takumi’s backstory- good to know, but I still don’t trust you; and I love Yasu. He’s just got the assured confidence in himself, because he knows who he is and that is just so attractive ❤️
