Duane Boehm grew up on a farm outside of Petersburg, Illinois. All the time spent driving a tractor gave him plenty of opportunity to let his imagination run wild and not tear up too much equipment. The two passions he developed early in life were the love of playing guitar and reading books.

He eventually moved to a mini-farm outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife and replaced planting corn with trees and raising dogs. For a number of years he worked as an IT consultant and continued with being a part-time musician and songwriter. He dabbled in writing short stories with the idea in the back of his mind that someday he would write a novel. One Christmas after watching "A Christmas Carol", he was inspired to begin his journey as a novelist.

Outstanding! I've read every book Duane has written and this is the best yet!

Love the storyline....Great action, humor, western authenticity and just enough romance! Good setup for a sequel or two ;). I would prefer the profanity not be included as it doesn't enhance but rather detracts from the greatness of the storyline and writing....always love an appearance by Wyatt Earp! Keep the stories coming, can't wait for the next book!

This is a well written book by an excellent writer. Piper Oberg is so sick of her abusive husband that she is considering ending her life when her friend and maid Maggiie talks her into running off together to start a new life. The husband gets Grayson Cooper out of prison to find and return his runaway wife. Grayson fids the two runaways and is set on return ing them until an attempt is made by a thug sent by the husband on the lives of Grayson and the ladies. This changes everything and Grayson is determined to keep the ladies safe and and seek revenge against Oberg. This story will keep your interest and even has a hint of romance in it woth a feel good ending.

A delightful departure from the standard western story lines!

You don't find humor or warmth in a story about a power mad rancher, A obsessed revenge plot,or a murderous gang raining horror on a community. This is a very well composed story so different from your standard western plot that you'll wonder if your reading a western. Primarily this is a story of a few people who undergo a crisis that teaches them who they really are.

People Can Change

Adventurous story of Piper Oberg and her maid Maggie. They stole money from Piper's husband and ran away. Grayson is released from prison to find his wife and maid. But he sends out men to kill them. He did this three times. Grayson saved the women and child. This changes his life. The adventure also changes the lives of Piper and Maggie.

Another hit from Mr. Boehm!

Piper is running from her wealthy husband who sees her only as a possession he will not lose and sends teams of me to kill her as she flees from Denver into Kansas.

Surprise Ending

Great details of the west. One could never guess the odd life changing friendships made throughout the story. This truly turns out to be a “don’t judge a book by its cover” story as you get to know each character.

Exciting Read

Very entertaining story with lots of action! Crossing the Kansas plains is not strange to me, however it was tolerable because of all the action!! Never a dull moment.

Solid Western

The strength of Mr. Boehm's novels is strong character development, and particularly the dialogue as relationships progress. There is sufficient action and time and place is detailed acurately. All in all, a solid western novel.

The prey becomes the loved

The great storyline of trying, tragic pasts, and deadly presence. Piper Oberg goes from near suicide to delight with the help of her friend Maggie, the man sent to bring her back, and the young girl she takes in to raise.

good book

But, too much detail slows the story down. You could have moved across the Kansas plains a lot faster, but when you got to the end, you just ended it. The girls could have gotten to Wichita a lot quicker too!!!

Great Character Development

I love the character development in Duane Boehm’s work! You get plenty of action and a strong story line, but the character development is the icing on the cake. He never disappoints.

Interesting

This story is full of violence, a race to escape being killed, rescuing a young street urchin, finding love, and making new friends. This story is not a typical Western.

Nice Western Romance

Great plot and interesting characters. Makes me want to learn more about my 1870/1890’s Irish family in the Denver and White River Colorado area.

Easy to read and enjoy. Simple reading . Not much of a plot or very realistic, but has a happy ending. Recommend for young adult and seniors.
