Aeyli has everything she's ever wanted. A name, a family, and control over her wild magic.
And with Fourteen free from the Company's control, she should be ecstatic, but with his whereabouts unknown, the Company still at large, and political fallout from helping the twins breathing down their necks, she and Fire are trapped in a holding pattern.
They are waiting for news of Fourteen.
Waiting for the Guard to drop the hammer on them for illegal magic.
And then there's the strange new tension that keeps popping up between Aeyli, Marshall, and Jack. And it's only growing.
How's a girl supposed to hunt down and end the Colonel with all of these distractions?

I really love this series, and this is the third book but not the last. According to the author there will be one more. And I definitely need to reread the series because it is good and still different to most rh I have read. I loved Aeyli because she is so loyal to Fourteen and all members of Team fire. I hope we will find out what will happen with her family too in the next book. I loved Team Fire because they are a little family. I loved Samantha and her consort the Demigod but get to see little of them. They do everything they can to help Team Fire.
I hated the Colonel, Rust and the Todds. Because they were evil.
The author makes us feel all the love, the hate and other complications like she (presumably) intended. And I am lucking forward to the next book, because I was really relieved that the series doesn’t end here. I want to be part of other adventures of Team Fire, and I get this in book 4 but that one is supposed the last one. But I think this world has so much potential, that Zile Elliven will find some other stories to tell and maybe we get a gimps at Team fire again.
Extended Summery of the book with tons of spoiler (aka reminder for myself of the story).
Aeyli has gone from shut in, to hunted, to almost possessed, to learning her true powers and becoming her family's matriarch. It only sounds like an upgrade. It's very much a burden because it's the same family afraid of her and trying to kill her due to the previous possessed matriarch's smear campaign. She's still looking for Fourteen. Marshall has some interesting side effects from tracking Nova down. She's pretty sure Jack is making some interest known. And she's still fighting to not be like dear departed demonic mom with a bevy of consorts. When is the R&R supposed to begin?
Spoilers ahead. This is as much fun as the previous 2. A lot of people didn't care for softer Aeyli but I think it was appropriate for her to be a little fragile after everything. You can't be a hard*ss all the time. She's powerful but stunted emotionally because of her 11yrs locked away and months hiding and running. She's learning, but outside circumstances put her at a slower pace. I love the mystery revolving around Clayton, though. It's almost like his ability is really near fatal clumsiness instead of the talking to elementals he claims. I still have aw questions about the Beloved/Benighted parts of Other society. Especially after this book. I'm hoping a little more world building gets snuck into the next book, as it's the last. And the Jack mystery in the epilogue is a good hook to lure us back in lol. I'm going to hate to see this end but I'm excited for the way it looks to be wrapping up. Maybe we get to revisit this world via Adelle or Clayton or Samantha? Samantha's story truly intrigues me. And I think Clayton would be such a fun read. I also am curious about the hint Adelle gave about her feelings for their former charge. There's an incredible amount of possible tales to tell.
The 1st book in the series was good and pointed it's way towards a solid track of being a worthy read. The 2nd book jumped off a cliff, took a nose dive and tanked. The Nova and Niko characters are marginal and should have been used like Clayton, Samantha and other characters in the book but took up bit chunks of wasted time that had nothing to do with the main plot. The 3rd book was worse with more Nova and Niko being of no substance and wasting space and words. This is supposed to be a reverse harem. No where do you see it because the character development between the FMC and love interests never gets fleshed out to really be developed indepth like it should. Book 2 & 3 need a huge rewrite. Hopefully the writer will remove head from rear and figure out how to fix and redo the story otherwise it is a total waste. The premise for book 4 appears to be a Jack POV, which would be fine if the other characters had been fleshed out but Jack never had and POVs through books 1-3 and has been only a supporting character so there is no smooth transition into book 4. Again there needs to be a huge rewrite of book 2 & 3 ,plus from the sound of things it's safe to say book 4 will probably need to be redone also from the sound of what is planned.
This is the third book in this series and the others should definitely be read first to understand the story. Well edited, the story is fast paced with both humor and romance, and several unexpected twists. The overall storyline moves forward dramatically, and we learn lots about Fourteen. Jack and Marshall are also heavily figured in the story, while a certain set of twins are thankfully moved to the background. There is a cliffhanger in the same way the other two books ended on a cliffhanger. Normally that would be enough for me to wait to read until the series is complete. But it's worth dangling on the edge of this cliff for however long it takes until book 4 is released for the pleasure of reading this book. If you have not yet started this series, you have the advantage of being able to read three books in a row, and I'd highly recommend doing so. I very much enjoy exploring this world the author has created, and am grateful that more in this series, (as well as possible spinoffs?), will be coming in the future.
Wow! This series has definitely been one hell of a journey. I absolutely adore ALL of the characters in these books, well.... not the bad guys of course, they deserve every rotten thing coming their way. Speaking of, I would really like to see our beautiful heroines family get their just deserts! Hopefully, that will happen in the next adventure. The only bad thing about these books, is the wait time in between and the only reason I say that is because I can't wait to dive into the next adventure. So, I actually went back and read books one and two before diving into three and I still enjoyed reading the first 2 as much as I did when I originally read them. There are so many wonderful characters, intriguing plots, growth and humor that it is impossible to not get sucked into this fascinating world. I would absolutely recommend! Happy reading everyone.
Let me say this: if you have not read Zile Elliven, then you are TRULY missing out. Her world building is unique and beautiful and ever so well done! From Book 1 of this series I was drawn in and could not, would not come up for air until I was done! It was well worth losing sleep (and I do not say that lightly as Sleep comes before chocolate in order of importance)!
Zile Elliven is seriously a fantastic writer. I thought this was the final book in the series and am not even mad I was wrong. Because more Dreamwalker Chronicles? Yes please! Anyway, book 3 has some major surprises. Aeyli, Fourteen, Marshall, and Jack find out what they all mean to each other, and there are some happy surprises there too. I highly recommend this book!
