Enemies-to-lovers meets forbidden slow burn in this emotionally charged college hockey romance by best-selling author Kimberly Readnour.
She was supposed to be a one-night mistake. Not the girl I can’t stop thinking about.
I’ve had my share of hookups—fast, forgettable, and never complicated. But the girl from that club? The one who dropped to her knees and left a mark I’m still feeling? She wasn’t forgettable. I just didn’t expect her to show up on campus … let alone be Coach Howell’s niece. Now she’s in my class. In my locker room. In my damn head. And to make it worse? I’m stuck working with her on a project neither of us wants, but both of us feel. She’s sarcastic, messy, and a magnet for chaos. I’m focused, disciplined, and one screw-up away from losing my shot at the NHL. But every time she looks at me like she wants another taste, I stop caring about rules. Because Jade Howell might be a bad idea. But I’ve never wanted anything more.
Kimberly Readnour lives in the Midwest with her husband and a very snuggly cat.
Having a true passion for romance and HEAs, she took the leap from the young adult genre to romance and never looked back.
Unexpected Love, book two of the Unforeseen Destiny Series, is a #1 Amazon Kindle bestseller in the Medical Romance. Her series, the Bad Boys Redemption, has spent many weeks on Amazon's sports fiction bestseller list.
Kimberly worked as a Registered Nurse for fifteen years before hanging up her stethoscope. When she isn't running her own business, you can find her tucked away writing.
She is off limits, but he already had a taste of her and wanted more. Except he couldn't afford distractions, he needed to keep his head in the game and keep them impressed. Drew needed to stick to his plan and stay focused. But it all came tumbling down when trouble with a capital T came in like a tornado and blew his goals out of the waters.
Jade was needed to stay away from Hockey boys, especially after what her ex had done, she needed a distraction, something she wouldn't ever do. That is until came across Drew and since then she hasn't been able to stay away. Now she is letting him and it terrifies her, but he may be worth fighting for.
Now, I love me some Hockey romcom romances, and this one just tops them all. The chemistry between Jade and Drew is just perfection. They are just meant to be and are healing each other without even knowing it.
Thank you to VPR and Kimberly Readnour for the opportunity to read and review this arc!!
This is the third book in this impressive series, and this is Drew and Jade’s story. What should have been just a one-night stand, has Drew unable to stop thinking about Jade. Drew is the star defenceman for the Cessna U hockey team, and he is blindsided when Jade turns up on campus, and he finds out she is his coach’s niece, and everywhere he turns she is there. This is a well written slow burn, easy to read, emotional roller coaster, with found family, friendships, tension, drama, angst, enemies / lovers, forced proximity, grumpy / sunshine, opposites attract, complex and realistic characters, romance, palpable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, heartfelt, and unpredictable, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I love reading Ms. Readnour’s books! I get obsessed and can’t put them down! And I freaking loved Drew and Jade! I devoured this book and I loved it so much!
Chaos and control…two opposites that somehow fit together perfectly in this third visit to Cessna U from Ms Readnour.
Drew is the top defenseman for the team, he’s ordered and precise but his world is silently unravelling. His control is slipping and the never ending pressures of being better, faster, slicker are eating away at him. The constant reminders of who he is and what he could become if he doesn’t keep pushing. Jade is chaos, a hugely talented young lady, her creative skills and determination to succeed at all costs are founded in her only having herself to rely on. Tough on the outside but a real romantic on the inside, a softness that she reveals to no one for fear of being left.
These two characters are so perfect for each other. Jade is the softness that Drew needs to balance out his rigidity. He is the reliable, steadfast presence that she craves. The connection they share and the brutal honesty they bring was perfectly written by Ms Readnour. Their vulnerability, but also their humour and back and forth banter as Jade consistently presses Drew’s buttons and challenges his order.
I loved these two. My heart ached for everything they had been through and for Drew as he was constantly reminded of how he could fail and who he could turn out to become…the pressure was unbelievable and at times unwarranted.
I really enjoyed this, a bit wordy in places but it still had me cheering for both of them to succeed, to find their happiness and chance their dreams together.
⭐️She talks like she doesn’t care, but the way she looked at me? That wasn’t fake. Wasn’t some act. It was worse. It was real.⭐️
Out of all three books, this has to be my favourite one. A ‘damaged’ hero seems to be my go to at the moment, and Drew is just perfect.
Wanting to prove he is worthy, he makes sure he never fails, never goes off his plan, his lists, his carefully constructed organised life. Then he meets Jade, she is Chaos, messy, flighty. Perfect for him.
Meeting before they knew who each other was, a less than perfect encounter but still so memorable.
Of course when they next meet they both realise that they are ‘untouchable’ but no matter much they try and stay away the universe keeps pushing them back together.
Fair play to jade for holding out as long as she did, and getting the unmovable drew to change, to move, to relax and have fun. Drew in turn showed her that not everyone will run.
I love them so much, this story felt more raw, more vulnerable, more perfectly imperfect, I couldn’t get enough!
Oh my….what an emotional rollercoaster this was 😭😭😭 this was my first time reading Kimberly Readnour and my jaw is on the floor with how much I love their writing. I’ve airway added the rest of their books to my TBR and will be reading them ASAP! 😍😍😍
This story centers around Drew, our tight laced, reserved, organised and focused hockey player MMC…and Jade…his complete opposite. Feisty, chaotic, fun and free FMC. But both of these MC’s are broken in different ways, but hide it behind their carefully curated masks.
One fateful night they meet each other and have a one night stand…no strings….no complications…just a night to let loose and be free. But when Drew runs into Jade on campus and realises that she’s the niece of his universities hockey team, things get very complicated. No matter how much they want each other, they know they are off limits to each other. And they try to stay away, but fate keeps pushing them together in the form of an interview and a school project.
We see both Drew and Jade struggle a lot. Jade has deep rooted fears of abandonment….living her life with no attachments, no permanence. No one can hurt you by leaving if you leave first, right ? Drew has his own demons. Fighting for perfection, needing to make it more than anything because he doesn’t want to fall into the mistakes of his families past. This is why he keeps his life so regimented and structured. But Jade comes careening in like a tornado, shaking up his life and making him see things differently.
These two start to fall for each other on a deeper level, and we see them being their walls down slowly. But it’s beautiful to see them truly be there for each other, something neither of them has ever had. They fought hard to stay away, but the heart wants what it wants and there was no way they could stay away from each other.
Obviously, the sexual chemistry between these two is INTENSE…we see that in the beginning. But the book is definitely more than just the physicality of their relationship. It’s truly about two broken people finding each other in a world where they thought they were alone. 🧡
Thank you so much to Kimberly Readnour for the opportunity to ARC read this beautiful book. 🧡
🧡Hockey Romance 🏒Emotional Read 🧡One Night Stand 🏒Forbidden 🧡Chaotic FMC 🏒Reserved MMC 🧡Coaches Niece 🏒College Setting 🧡Broken MC’s 🏒”F it” moment 🧡Slow Burn 🏒Angst 🧡Banter 🏒Enemies to Lovers 🧡Dual POV 🏒HEA
The start was absolute fire between them! I was laughing so hard when it all ended with a bruised head moment—so funny, and the fact that he never spilled to his team about who it was made it even better.
They’re both so broken in different ways, but together they become stronger than ever. They truly complete each other in the best way possible, and I loved every second of watching them fall.
What really got me was how he shows up for her at the end—heart-melting. 🥹
“If I lose everything else, I’ll regret it. But I’ll regret not choosing you more.” His eyes hold mine, unflinching. “I’m choosing you, Jade. Every time.”
A chance (and hilarious) encounter turns into a seismic connection that neither saw coming. The angst of this book had me glued to the pages. I loved how deeply they fell for each other while actively trying to fight it. The emotional scars they both bared had me all in my feels and may have made me tear up a few times.
When the spice got going, it was, their chemistry was flying off the pages and it was HOT. For those of you like myself who love a “fuck it” moment…..😬❤️
“I close my eyes and let myself feel the fear, the hope, the tentative belief that maybe, just maybe, we’ve both found someone who won’t walk away when things get hard.” Blindside Me is another well written college hockey romance, a story that’s intense and emotional that had it’s hooks into me early as Drew and Jade, two very likeable characters struggle to define themselves with their past hangups and current expectations. It’s a forbidden romance trope, she’s the coaches niece and the team were told explicitly to stay away from her, but Jade and Drew had met previously before being teamed for a semester long project and were thrown together by circumstances. There’s no denying the scorching hot chemistry between them, while Ms. Readnour tortures us with a slow burn build up to their romance igniting. Jade is fiercely guarding her heart, in her past experiences those she loved and depended on have left her or manipulated her, while Drew is drowning under expectations making him appear to others as intense and brooding, with his emotions locked down tight behind his scheduled and perfectly planned life. “Drew is the guy who makes lists to make sure he doesn’t miss anything important. Who strategizes loving me like it’s a game plan he can perfect with enough practice and dedication.” It's rewarding that in the other they find the person who “sees” them for who they are giving us a satisfying conclusion. There’s plenty going on for action and drama and lots of interactions with the guys in the team and their significant others who we’ve met in previous outings in this series. Overall, I enjoyed it!
Drew is the star at Cessna U Hockey and he had him a bit of nookie with Jade . Though he thought he had it made ,turns out it was a game he shouldn’t have played . She’s the coach’s niece and he wouldn’t be best pleased . But he’s been blindsided indeed . Now she’s here in his locker room ,in his class and he can’t forget the mark she left on his ass . Because him he’s lusted after her truth be known . She is sassy and all that but working on a project they both don’t need in their life causing them both strife . But what they say about nights you can’t forget ? You’re gonna get burned and of her he’s yearned …She’s in his head ,it’s affecting his game . If coach knew his niece was to blame from his not performing and his chance of the NHL is going to heck so he’d best get himself in check and head in the game . Else he’d only have himself to blame . She’s messy and chaos and mess yet he’s order and discipline but he must confess . She’s under his skin even though she’s coach’s kin. How’s he going to end up,will they be friends or will they find themselves in the bin of sin . Read and find out ,this book by Kimberly Readnour is far out good . Oh and just so you know ? I would ! Those characters are so well written ,I’m smitten . The storytelling is compelling and though I say this all the time . This awesome storyline is sublime ,divine and I had a good time.
ARC Review: 4.5⭐️ Blindside Me is book 3 in the Cessna U Hockey series featuring Drew Klaas & Jade Howell.
Drew & Jade meet at a club and spend the evening dancing. After a while, they sneak away to the bathroom and share a moment, but just as things are getting good they get interrupted. Jade flees without sharing any personal information and Drew is left wanting.
Days later at the rink, Drew & Jade are reunited and he discovers the mystery girl from a few nights ago is his coaches niece and very much off limits. The two are also in the same class and end up being paired together for a project.
The more time they spend together the more the attraction sizzles between them. Will they ignore all the reasons they shouldn’t be together and give it a real shot?
This was my first book from this author and I was a big fan! I loved these characters together and also really enjoyed the friend group! I can’t wait to go back and read their stories and to see who comes next !
Blindside Me by Kimberly Readnour is the 3rd book in her Cessna U hockey series and features a forbidden romance between 2 emotionally unavailable students. Drew is a star defenseman on the Cessa U hockey team with family issues and anger issues. He is fighting his brother's ghost and his father's expectations. Jade is the niece of Cessa U's hockey coach and has abandonment issues and is, of course, off limits to the Cessa U hockey team.
Jade and Drew have a chance meeting in a bar, which ends in an unfortunate way for Drew. When they meet again in the hockey facility on campus, they both know that there is attraction, but it's forbidden. When they are paired together for a class project, they learn so much about the other and start to fall in love. Drew decides to walk away to save his hockey career, but quickly realizes his mistake. After a totally epic grand gesture, all is right with their worlds again.
I loved the raw emotion in this book! Be prepared for intense emotions and a great story! 10/10 Highly Recommend!
"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” Blindside me. This novel delivers a captivating blend of enemies to lovers and forbidden romance in this college hockey story full of passion and heart. Drew, the disciplined defenseman determined to reach the NHL, thrives on order and control until Jade, his unforgettable one night encounter, reappears on campus as both a classmate and his coach’s niece. Where Drew is structure and precision, Jade is energy and chaos. Fiercely talented and determined, she hides her vulnerability behind a tough exterior, while Drew struggles to keep his world from unraveling under mounting pressures. Forced to work together, their undeniable chemistry grows into a connection that is equal parts tender, intense, and transformative. With sharp banter, emotional honesty, and a slow burn build, Readnour crafts a romance that feels both authentic and deeply moving. This novel is a striking addition to the sports romance genre, perfectly balancing passion, vulnerability, and the thrill of forbidden love. 💛
Absolutely loved Drew and Jade!!! The push and pull, the chemistry and the slow burn were so good!! I couldn’t put this book down!!!
They both have traumas that they have to overcome and learned to work on. Despite their issues, they still manage to come together and help each other heal!!
The chemistry between them was burning so hot and the slow burn was torture, but when they finally got together, whooooaaaa!! 100% recommend reading this!!!
Includes: 🏒 Slow burn 🎨 Abandonment issues 🏒 Family loss 🎨 Cheating (not by MCs) 🏒 a bad case of hickey dick 🎨 Grumpy/Sunshine 🏒 Forbidden Love 🎨 Forced Proximity 🏒 College 🎨 Found Family 🏒 Band of Brothers
5 ⭐️ 📕: Blindside Me by Kimberly Readnour Why you’ll love this book!! Sport Romance Band Of Brothers College Grumpy x Sunshine Enemies To Lovers Hockey Forbidden Romance Found Family Forced Proximity I loved this book it’s my first by Kimberly Readnour and now I need to go back and read the rest. These two were ment for each other both going through a lot but the spark and connection is to power to not see where this goes. Drew is the star defenseman for Jade’s niece of the head coach. They have a great connection when they meet at a bar and now they’re getting put together for a class project. I loved the banter in this book so much.
This is the third book of this series and this author did a fabulous job!
Drew is the top defenseman for the hockey team! His dad expects perfection but his control on that is slowly slipping away and also the never ending pressure for to be better, faster, he also gets the constant reminders of who is and what he could become if he doesn’t keep pushing!
Jade is a very talented young lady with an amazing creative skills and also the determination to succeed at all costs, when she only has herself to rely on. She comes off as a tough girl but on the inside she is this romantic person and also a softness she never reveals for the fear of being alone.
These two chemistry is so good! They totally balance each other out very well!
Forbidden romance at Cessna U Wow, this is such an emotional roller coaster. I loved the journey that Drew and Jade took me on. These characters are layered, complex and realistic. Both have issues they’re trying to overcome and their chemistry and connection is palpable. The way this couple “sees” each other, broken pieces and all is truly beautiful and heartfelt. With longing, angst, slow-burn love, steam, swoons, drama, tension, twists and teammates, this is a story not to be missed.
This story made me laugh, especially the consequences. for Drew after him and Jade’s first meeting. I love Jade and Drew’s opposing personalities. They say opposites attract and it is so true for this couple. Jade is total chaos whilst Drew is all about control, except he has none when it comes to Jade! This is such a great read. 5 stars.
This was a fun hockey romance between a player and the coach's niece.
Jade has moved to town to be closer to her Uncle after needing a fresh start. Her first night in town she wants to go out and just have fun at the club and there she meets a hot stranger where they have a quick bathroom hookup.
After she flees, she vows to get her crap together and focus on this school year with no distractions. Unfortunately that distraction comes right away in the form of Drew, AKA bathroom hottie hookup who is the school;s star hockey player, as she gets paired with him on a school project. The attraction between them is strong and while they both need to stay out of trouble and know it's a bad idea (did I mention she is his hockey coach's niece?) they can't seem to stay away.
Drew knows he needs to focus but is suffocating under the pressure to perform well after his brother Jake blew his own chance. Pressure comes mostly from himself but also his dad and coach and while coach is trying to encourage him, Drew seems to not be able to stay out of his own way.
I usually jump at hockey romances and was very glad I was able to read this book. I did think the writing was a bit disjointed and didn’t flow very well in some spots. Jade was a little bit of a mystery to me as I was reading. She was trying to be a rebel against her uncle but she was being very childish. Then she wanted Drew to open up in his interview but she doesn’t want to open up to her uncle and try to repair that relationship.
I also was unsure of what the coach's motivation style was. It seemed like he wanted the best for Drew but constantly talked down to him and said he only brought him to play on this team because of his brother. Was he trying to be a motivational hard ass or were his intentions selfish to try and win at any cost? I wish that was more clear.
The plot about her ex seemed unfinished. After the fight on the ice he was never spoken about again. He just disappeared from the story. Did he just decide to stop stalking her? I understood why he was needed in the story but it was unfinished and left me hanging with lots of questions.
Drew’s grand gesture was perfection! I love to read about public declarations of love and while I cringe, I still love them. He did a very good job of groveling to get her back. I also like how he worked on himself and she forgave him and let him have space to figure himself out and conquer his demons.
Huge thanks to Kimberly Readnour and Valentine PR for sharing this book’s digital advanced review copy with me in exchange for an honest review.
“Some things are worth saving, even when they’re a little broken.”
Blindside Me is a gut-wrenching, emotionally charged sports romance that delivers longing, vulnerability, and forbidden desire in spades. From the moment Drew and Jade meet, their chemistry is undeniable—raw, electric, and impossible to ignore. But when they discover that Jade is the niece of Drew’s hockey coach, their connection becomes a ticking time bomb. Off-limits and complicated, their relationship is destined to be anything but simple.
“This doesn’t feel like a distraction. It feels like the only thing that makes sense.”
Thrown together for a class assignment, Drew and Jade begin to peel back each other’s layers, revealing the pain and secrets they’ve kept hidden. And this is where the story truly shines: the yearning between them is so palpable it feels like a third character. Every glance, every moment of restraint, every near-touch is laced with aching intensity.
“She makes me believe I’m more than a box score. That maybe I’m already enough.”
Both characters are beautifully broken. Jade battles deep-rooted abandonment issues, never quite believing anyone will stay. Drew, meanwhile, carries the weight of his family’s past, striving for perfection to atone for mistakes that aren’t even his. They’re walking emotional tightropes, and it only takes one misstep to send everything crashing down.
“I’ve spent most of my life thinking that if I wasn’t perfect, I was nothing. And then she came in and made space for all the parts I didn’t want anyone to see.”
Watching them open up to each other is nothing short of breathtaking. In each other’s presence, they find safety, honesty, and the rare gift of being truly seen. Their chemistry is off the charts, but it’s the emotional intimacy that makes this story unforgettable.
“If I lose everything else, I’ll regret it. But I’ll regret not choosing you more. I’m choosing you, Jade. Every time.”
Blindside Me is angsty, tender, and utterly heart-wrenching—the kind of romance that leaves a mark. Drew and Jade’s story will linger long after the final page, and I’m already counting down the days until the next installment in the series.
📚✨ ARC REVIEW ✨📚 Blindside Me by Kimberly Readnour ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (3.5/5 stars)
Thank you to @valentine_pr_ for providing a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Drew is hyperfocused on one thing and one thing only: hockey. Overshadowed by the failed careers of his father and older brother, he’s determined to make it to the NHL without distractions… until he meets Jade.
Jade is the niece of Drew’s hockey coach and the embodiment of chaos, his complete opposite. Struggling with abandonment issues from her mother’s inconsistency and her uncle’s sudden departure when she was a child, Jade has built tall walls to protect herself.
When Drew and Jade are paired for a media project, it becomes impossible to ignore how much they mean to each other. When they finally give in, the chemistry is explosive, opening floodgates neither can close.
I’ll admit, this isn’t a book I’d usually pick up (the cover didn’t appeal to me - yes, I'm that judgey b*tch), but I was surprised by the dramatic, emotional romance inside. As a perfectionist, I saw a lot of myself in Drew, especially his rituals (SO.MUCH.TAPE) and coping mechanisms, which echoed some of my own OCD-related tics. I appreciated that he recognized the need to work on himself outside the relationship, although I wish the book had depicted him attending therapy.
Jade was a standout. I loved that she pursued a relationship with Drew without sacrificing her self-respect. She asserted her needs, pushed back when he tried to push her away, and remained vulnerable without losing her strength. Her abandonment struggles were deeply relatable, and I found myself rooting hard for her healing (though she also needs to get herself to therapy, STAT!).
If you love reading hockey romances with relatably damaged characters, you will want to add this to your TBR.

⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️ Blindside Me by @kimberlyreadnour 5 ⭐ / 3🔥🌶
I absolutely loved this story. I though book 2 of @kimberlyreadnour ‘s Cessna U Hockey series was fantastic. But Drew and Jade’s romance journey is to die for.
Hands down love the first meeting and mishap, to finding out their one night stand is off limits. They both have things to prove, but for different reasons and together they just fit, build each other into better versions and it is perfection. From start to finish @kimberlyreadnour legit has you captivated in this romance.
She’s his Coach’s niece, she’s off limits. But their one night stand sparked something in them they can’t deny. An interview and school project force them together and from there it is game over. They are explosive and cautious, they are Miss Trouble and Mr. Reserved.
Their journey’s to each other and then together to what they become are executed brilliantly. The growth we see for them each but especially Drew is top notch. Loved every second of this.
Kimberly nailed it with this one! I cannot wait to see what she brings next.
Highly recommend this book! Could not put it down! Add to your TBR today!!!
Thank you @kimberlyreadnour and @valentine_pr for my ARC.
Drew plays college ice hockey, Jade's uncle is the manager of the team and has told them that his niece is off limits to all of them. After a steamy night in a night club, Jade and Drew find themselves in the same media class and are paired together for a project. Jade has abandonment issues and believes that everyone leaves and Drew carries his family's past/history with him, believing he's turning into them. Both of them fight their feelings for each other, they want to be with each other but feel they have to hide it from everyone. After having a clash with Jade's ex on the ice rick, Drew sees that he is turning into his dad and brother, which is something that he was trying to avoid. Ghosting Jade, makes him realise that she is the one for him and will do anything to prove it to her and prove that he won't run away again.
I really enjoyed this book! Sadly, I haven't read the first couple of books of this series before this one but after reading this, I have decided that I'm going to! I loved Jade and Drew's relationship and I was rooting hard of them! I also believe everyone needs a friend like Callie!
Tropes: Forbidden Love Forced Proximity Enemies to Lovers Grumpy x Sunshine Found Family
She's a car barreling down the highway he's the brick wall She's destined to slam into. Jade clubs acohole and desperation but she's in need of a distraction and the hot guy checking her out is just what she needs but he looks a little familiar who cares she never has to see him again so no regret. Drew everything has to always be perfect and the one time he let's go he messes up his one night stand is his coaches niece and everyone has been warned away he doesn't need the hassle until there forced to work together on a project for school he's controlled on the ice and off but he cant control Jade or the night he can't forget. Jade everything is a disappointment everyone leaves so she learned to laugh her hurt away and never let anyone close until the uptight Defensmen weasels his way into her heart but can they even be together when there so opposite and her uncle wouldn't approve. This is the 3rd book in the series and a first-time read by the author for me I enjoyed how the author softened up Jades hard heart and how Drew finally was able to breathe and except he's not perfect in this not so one night-stand.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
"Blindside Me" was an enjoyable read, though it didn’t quite stand out for me.
Jade and Drew both carry a lot of emotional baggage, and while they are messy in different ways, they somehow complement each other. I really appreciated watching them gradually break down each other’s walls. Their connection felt genuine and raw, even if their story didn’t fully resonate with me.
The slow burn in this book definitely takes its time, but their chemistry is undeniable. I have to mention that the way Drew shows up for Jade at the end completely melted my heart. That scene alone raised my rating of the book.
The story features an enemies-to-lovers, forbidden romance with all the college hockey vibes you'd expect. I liked it but didn’t love it. However, I'm glad I read it, and I think fans of the series will enjoy watching another couple fall (hard) for each other.
If you love: 🏒 College hockey romance 🔥 Enemies-to-lovers ⏳ Slow burn with emotional depth 🚫 Forbidden relationships
