I’ve read both this first edition and the second edition which has a new cover design. The second edition brought the rating up from a 4 star to a 5 !!!! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series. The Color of Love here I come!

Such a sweet tale of two sisters during WW2. Has just enough twists and turns to keep it moving right along.

I recently met the author at a writing workshop and was interested in her 5-book series of which this is the first. She mentioned in her presentation that a lot of the story was based on her own mother, and the young women in the book remind me of my mother and her sister, who were close in age to these characters.
Sarah and Ava are in the US during the war, but the men they love are overseas and in danger. The story mostly focuses on their rather sedate lives, trying to find a path when they're very young themselves - still in their teens at the start of the book. The story somewhat reminds me of books by Beverly Cleary, Anne Emery, and Betty Cavana, who wrote teen romances in the 40', 50's and 60's - and again, I think because it reflects the moral values of the war years, and the way young women do have to search for and decide upon the path their lives will take.
I enjoyed the book very much and plan to read the rest of the series.
