When Ehna Mundeya Jaldi Mar Jaana (These boys will die soon) came out in 2003, it was highly praised for its observation and style. Written by writer, editor Gurbachan, known for his acerbic evaluation of Punjabi authors and their works. In this book he captures the zeitgeist of Punjabi diaspora in the western world of the nineties. It is less a travelogue but a unique blend of observations, conversations and reportage. Editor and story writer Prem Parkash named his style Nawan Vartak or New Prose. It is my third rereading. I may have gifted/given away a dozen copies to friends/acquaintances.
