Something evil has been unleashed! I loved the feeling of this story. The pacing made it a quick read, yet it was still filled several interesting plot twists and loads of characters. I liked the short chapters that added to the overall sense of urgency in the book. I would enjoy seeing the myth revisited and expanded.

Twenty-something Kayla Thomas is acting Sheriff of Silverville after the previous Sheriff retired due to ill health. It's mostly bar fights & handling the town drunks but that all changes when a local businessman reopens the old mine above the town & Silverville's inhabitants start losing control & killing each other over minor disagreements. Is it a viral disease, something in the air from the mine, or something much harder to track? Or stop. With the town snowed in, Kayla & her deputies are on their own.

Novellas have to hit the ground running & this one did just that. It's fast-paced & once the deaths start - they just keep coming! The plot is fairly basic & there are a few instances where the wrong version of a word is used (your/you're), but it doesn't really matter because I enjoyed every minute of it. In fact this is one of the rare times that I wish the book had been a bit longer as I don't feel the reader gets time to get to know the characters before action starts. A short, fast-paced horror read.

Entertaining horror

This book was great fun. A snow locked town in Colorado, a young sheriff, the good townsfolk turned killers. It read like a classic King or Koontz, but on speed.
I liked the characters, each had an interesting backstory or part to play in the plot.
The reason for the horror was satisfying.
The conflict and kills were inventive and at times surprising.
The only downside was the relentless pace. I would have loved more description of the town, a bit more time learning about the characters and how they interacted with each other, a bit more time lingering over the kills.
A quick entertaining read.

I liked this story. Set in Colorado, Kayla Thomas is the elected town sheriff after the previous one had a heart attack. She is struggling to keep order after a series of murders by local residents. At first she thinks it is a virus affecting them but she soon learns that something has been disturbed in the local mine. Something ancient and evil...

I enjoyed this story as it was quite original - an ancient evil looking to cause havoc. I wouldn't necessarily class it as a horror, more of a thriller with some horror elements. The characters were well written and the relationships were strong.

The pace was great throughout most of the story but the end changed a little. The transition from one scene to another happened a little too quickly for me. Also, I would have liked to read a bit more detail on the shape shifter i.e. the description when changing.

Overall, I would recommend this.

This is a fast paced story, set in a small mining town in Colorado where an evil is rearing its ugly head. I think I read it in about 3 sittings. What I really liked was that it was an action packed story with short chapters and there was never a dull moment. There were heeps of characters but the author skilfully introduced them in such a way that there was no difficulty keeping track of all of them or knowing whose "head" you were in.

I'm giving this a strong 4 stars with the only criticism being the number of typing/formatting/grammar errors throughout the book.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone that liked a thriller/fantasy/horror story.
