He’s the young firefighter who saves her from the flames, and she’s an older woman. But is the age gap between them too big?
Carley Peanut is a rabbit like no other. He’s my best friend and confidante. So when he’s stuck in a burning building I’m horrified, until a strong, brave firefighter comes to his rescue. Emmett may have saved Peanut from the flames, but he’s set my heart on fire. The only problem is that he’s younger than me by a lot. I’ve dated younger men before, and it never ends well. It seems like it’s destined to be just me and Peanut forever.
Emmett From the moment I carry her out of a burning building, I know Carley is the woman for me. I even risk my life and my job to save her pet rabbit. She’s a few years older, but that makes her all the more sexy, although I’m not sure she agrees. Can I convince her that I’m the man she’s been waiting for, or does age really matter?

Emmett is book five in the Kings of Fire series. Each book is a standalone, no cliff-hangers and always with a happily ever after.
Emmett is the fifth book in the Kings of Fire series and this one for me was a sweet and touching story about Carley and Emmett, and little Peanut also. They are brought together when there is an apartment fire and Emmett finds Carley in her apartment unresponsive. He lifts her over his shoulder and takes her out, saving her life. As she comes around Carley cries out about her baby....who is in a cage by the window. Confused Emmett finally figures out that the baby is actually a rabbit, who is like a baby to Carley. As the fire is knocked out Emmett pretends not to hear Asher telling him not to go and heads back in finding the baby. It looks bad as Peanut is not breathing but finally comes around to a very grateful Carley. Emmett is her hero and he is happy to be that as from the moment he saw the beauty he knew he wanted to know her better. A couple of days later Emmett is leaving the firehouse after getting his butt handed to him by the Chief and runs right into Carley. She has brought him a Thank You gift of a homemade pie. In return Emmett asks Carley to dinner. After a minute she of thinking, as Emmett looks several years younger than her and she is not sure, finally tells him yes and that she is free on Tuesday. Their date is amazing as they have such a connection. But when Carley finds out Emmett's age she is not willing to pursue anything, as at thirty-four she does not have any time to waste because she wants a family. Emmett still pursues Carley and she finally tells him her reason. At twenty-two Emmett knows he wants a family but had not thought about having it yet, as there was time. But Emmett knows that Carley and he are meant to be together and she is his future. Now the question is whether he can make Carley believe it also, and give her what she wants.
I really loves this story as it had a lot of heart and was moving to me. Carley knows what she wants and is willing to walk away from a man who she has a real connection with because she does not think he is ready for those things. As Emmett is positive that Carley and he are meant to be together then his has to think about things and make a decision if he is willing to give her what she wants. Both characters are wonderfully written, even for a short story Sadie King still gives them depth and thought. Plus you can't not smile about the fur baby Peanut. This book was a real winner for me and a RECOMMEND READ!!!
Carley is 34 and Emmett is 22. Big age difference that doesn’t get a lot of play. The story was sweet. Writing really well done. I do wish it had been fully fleshed out in a longer format.
Mostly because the length of this novella only allows for the meet, a date, a pursuit, and an okay sure forever sounds awesome. It was just a bit jackknifed.
Told in alternating first person POV, we barely get a sense of either character. Questions are hinted at but not resolved. Emmett’s career, for example.
There was the odd description.
“…the curves of her ass protrude unashamedly through her cotton dress.”
Really? “Protrude”? At least get the tense right. Protruded.
Carley isn’t very likable. She shuts herself in with a rabbit for company. It’s like being a cat lady but more exotic, I suppose? She had a bunch of sense when she explained to Emmett what she was looking for, but it wasn’t to be found in her internal dialogue. And we didn’t learn about her feelings for him until she told him. But who goes through a guy’s wallet, behind his back, on a first date? On any date? Nosey much, criminal?
For that matter, what kind of guy doesn’t immediately put his wallet away after being ID’d and instead tosses it onto the table on his way to the men’s room?
I just had questions.
Anyway, it was sweet. But short. And it could have been really good if more time had been taken. KU had this as a 15 minute read.
Errors: “The woman stirs under me…” — he’s carrying her over his shoulder “I gasp from surprise,…” — in “…this is the first date.” — a first date, she isn’t comfortable with rubbing against him because it’s *a* first date “You’ve got your whole life to lead.” — to live
While on a call, Emmett rescues a beautiful woman and then her rabbit. That trip back into the building cost Emmett to get suspended and sent for retraining, but to see the relief and smile on Carley's face was well worth it to him. Emmett was able to get Carley to go out with him, all was going well until she found out that he was 12 years younger than him. For Carley, she felt that they were in two different places in life and ended things before it started, but Emmett is not ready to give up.
This hot little number will have you lost in Carley's struggle as she looks for the love, and refusing to see what is in front of her, while Emmett continues to prove that he wants to be all she could ever want.

The age gap in this book is a much younger man, the hot fireman who came to the rescue and the older woman. They click in every way but she can’t get over the age gap. He on the other hand, can only see her and not a number. However, she breaks things off with him. The age difference in her mind has put them at very different places in their lives. Emmett doesn’t want to just let love get away. This book is full of love, patience, understanding and overcoming yourself enough to get out of the way of your own happiness. This is a great series and a great book.
This is book five in the Kings of Fire series. Each book is short and sweet with insta love and happily ever afters. Emmett rescues Carley and her pet and falls pretty quick. Carley likes him, too but is nervous about the age gap (double standard, much?). Emmett doesn't give up and Carley realizes how perfect he is. Sweet story and I hope there are more in the series. I received an ARC copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Emmett rescued Carley when her apartment complex had a fire. He was very impressed with her. She was worrying about her baby aka rabbit. Emmett went back in for him and got a weeks suspension and back to firefighter school for the week. Carley had one date with him and then broke it off. She hit a big roadblock with him. Read what it is and how they settle it. It's such a good book. Written by Cindy :)
A really enjoyable older woman younger man book five in the Kings of Fire series! It is well-written, fast pace, funny, and engaging with some drama in relation to the age difference. The characters you will love; the chemistry between them is instant and undeniable! Definitely recommended!

Loved this, yes there is an age gap but age is also just a number. When you find someone and you just feel that connection and both are open to the relationship with clear goals in mind then there is nothing to get in your way. And the epilogue, absolutely incredible.

This a wonderful heartwarming, heart-rending story. Emmet, Carly and Peanut are swet wonderful characters and the storyline just revolves around them in a lovely romantic and interesting way. I loved this sweet, romantic and steamy story.

When Carley is saved from a fire in her apartment building by a handsome young firefighter she never imagines he would be interested in her. Emmett isn't going to give up on Carley, she's the first woman who makes him think about a future. He knows it's love he just needs to show her their age difference is just a number.
Super sweet short story! Emmett saves Carley and her rabbit Peanut from a burning building. For Emmett, it’s love at first sight. Carley then finds out how old Emmett is and realizes he might be a little too young for her. Being 12 years a part and in her 30’s she’s worried about starting a family. Will it work out in the end?
Ooh, I love that this installment in the series had an older woman and Emmett was sexy. He rescues her and at first she has issues with their age gap but the chemistry can't be denied and I loved Emmett's determination.
A great quick read. Carley is quite a bit older than Emmett and she tries to deny her feeling for him. Emmett doesn’t want to give up and has to decide what he really wants out of life and if Carley is part of that. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A fast paced quick read. This is the fifth book in this series. The story flows well, the characters are fun together and have amazing chemistry. I am enjoying this series.
When a younger man saves a slightly older woman from an apartment fire, then goes back to save her rabbit that is her baby, he knows he found the one. But she doesn't agree citing their age difference. Can he change her mind?
This was such a great older woman younger guy romance. I really enjoyed this story. I liked how Carley and Emmett connected right from the start. And I liked how low on drama the story was.
