I searched a long time for a first edition of this book. The print numbers were so small, and Lotte was so overshadowed by Herr Dr Hass and his ship full of ego, that it never got the attention it deserved. Lotte Hass was a superwoman - an olympic champion, superstar scuba diver (way braver with the sharks than Hans ever was), a wonderful photographer and international swimsuit model. I really wanted to hear Lotte's side of things, because her voice is lost in all of her husbands books. I think the photo of her, hanging limpid beneath the ocean, is one of the most sublime underwater photographs ever taken. There are very few books written by seminal women divers and Girl on the Ocean Floor is definitely one of them.
