Bond of hatred? Christie was young and naive when she first met Jared Buchanan. She'd fallen in love with him, but she couldn't cope with the passion he awoke within her. So she'd fled. Three years on, and Christie's dreams of fame and fortune were about to come true. Trouble was, Jared was essential to helping her fulfill those dreams. But he made it clear that he had never forgiven her for her desertion. Jared was determined to have his revenge on Christie . . . even if it meant using the blue fire of passion that still blazed between them.

0 stars. ✨ Looks like a pure, unadulterated torture device from my vantage point, this book. ✨ It tried to perform an exorcism on me, but something went wrong along the way... because it taught me 1001 ways to exorcise (with an “e” not an “o”) my patience instead. 😭

WELL, DON'T BE SHY, SAY HELLO TO:

JARED (H)
- Hey hey, Jared-The-Lowest-Form -Of -Male -Life. Your ass deserves a life sentence.

(h, whose name I cannot recall for the love of God)
- Hallo, my dear! Do you even realize that you fell in love with a useless piece of shiddd?

I could only wish I had the power of putting myself under a spell of delusions as severe and idiosyncratic as this guy's. He firmly believed that the heroine's only aspiration in life should be darning his socks and popping his babies out of the womb and he never - not even once - wavered from the rightful path of a dumb, pea-brained soldier of patriarchy.

The man was so self-centered, I'd rather he jerked off in front of a mirror for the rest of his miserable life and left this heroine the fuck alone.

Jared 3 years ago:

- slut-shames the heroine for being "too" passionate and eager to engage in bedroom activities with him. Come again 🤡

- forces her to do the housekeeping, laundry and meals during their honeymoon phase. THE GUY FIRED HIS PAID HOUSEKEEPER so that the heroine can proudly claim to have become his housekeeper with benefits? 😭🤚🏻 Great lengths Jared was willing to go to cut on his expenses. You won't find a less sexy hero even if you hire an entire investigation team, I can promise you that 😭

- fully expects demands that she give up and forget her dreams of stardom. Anything that doesn't involve catering to his needs comes from the devil according to this dumb bimbo🤚🏻

- denigrates the heroine's achievements and belittles her acting talent, doing his best to convince her that she will fail to reach any heights in the acting industry

- believes that the heroine used him as her sugar daddy to get to the top (FUCKING HOW?? SHE COULD HAVE ASKED HIM FOR ANYTHING SINCE HE WAS A FAMOUS PRODUCER, BUT SHE CHOSE NOT TO. ELABORATE ON THIS ACCUSATION, STUPID BITCH). The depth of his insecurities is truly astounding and for a good reason, I gotta add. It's a pity that the heroine had to suffer the consequences, though

Jared now:

- throws work ethic out of the window and threatens to dismiss the heroine from her dream role if she refuses to offer her 'sexual favors' to him 🤪

- tosses around hateful, hurtful comments about her slutting it up because his little brain couldn't comprehend, for the love of everything that is good and holy, the concept of an actress achieving success due to acting skills

- gossips about the heroine's sexual appetites with his female "friend"

- adamantly refuses to listen to any explanations given by the heroine (absolutely needless explanations, might I add) that didn't conform to the comfortable bubble of lies that his delusional mind had encased him in. He was the personification of delusion 🌚

I guess that's what happens (an absolute disaster) when a sweet naive girl chooses a career over some narcissistic paranoic with fragile ego and a bit of power in his shaky hands.

Why did such a vivacious, talented actress feel the irresistible urge to humiliate and humble herself in front of an unapologetically prejudiced, verbally abusive, narcissistic, judgemental, unprofessional, dumb as a sack of potatoes human being with a charm of reddish-brown cockroach that was found dead in the student's dorm? I don't know. She should have treated him as the creepy nuisance that he was.

‘Take them off. Then you really will be just like Lelie. A barefoot whore on the beach thinking of nothing but fame and fortune!’ He laughed, jeering, ‘I can’t decide whether or not to demand sexual favors from you as well as a full confession! I’m willing to bet you’d turn cartwheels in my bed just to get that part! You did it for me three and a half years ago, didn’t you, when you thought I might put you in one of my pictures? It must have been a shock to realize you’d been wasting your sexual skills on me! No wonder you turned to Simon. He paid up, didn’t he? How many new skills have you learned with him? Maybe I—’

The guy woke up and said ✨'small dick energy✨? Double it for me.'

I love evil, gaslighting, horrendously unapologetic male characters, but damn only if they possess a sliver of charisma that will encourage me to turn a blind eye to every single horrible thing they say and do. At least have the courtesy to manipulate me into being inadvertently fascinated by your antics. 🙇🏼‍♀️

To make matters worse, the book (as in, the plot, writing, secondary characters) was so mediocre that I'm not capable of justifying why I spent hours torturing myself till I finally crossed the finish line with the tears of relief shining in my eyes. I guess I feel liberated now. 😭🤚🏻

The story had so much potential... after all, the heroine opted for chasing her dreams and only settled down to become Jared's incubator after achieving the success she had been craving for all along. But the hero's complete idiocy, ridiculously abrupt wrap-up of the story that devalued the whole drama and nothing short of disastrous dialogues ruined this book for me. 💯

This insecure man child of a hero, whose intellect I have no desire to compare to anything living and breathing since such a comparison would be too insulting for any sentient creature, deserves to never be mentioned again. 🤚🏻 If he existed in real life, he would receive the Ig Nobel Prize for being the most thickheaded male in the history of humanity.

👮🏼‍♀️JAIL FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS BOOK'S PRODUCTION, it's been a grave crime committed against Irunia's sanity. 👮🏼‍♀️

Trigger warnings: forced housekeeping* and a verbally abusive hero.

This had all the makings of a fun second chance story. Actress heroine with new fiancé in tow is invited to a Hollywood houseparty where the director hero is there with his girlfriend. Three years before they lived together (when the forced housekeeping took place) and were planning to marry until the heroine’s ambition got in the way.

One of the delights of a second chance story is the peeling away of the onion of past events and motivations until the reader has the whole story of what went wrong. Here, the characters just blurt out their grievances at the beginning and then repeat them until the author decides to change their minds.
(He’s an orphan and has always wanted a home. She’s unloved and thinks she has to be famous to be loved.) And yes, the H/h are that shallow and immature.

Another problem is the amateurish writing. This reads more like a script than a novel. The author frontloads a bunch of descriptions at the beginning of each scene. The room looked like this. She was wearing that. The characters were standing there. Then the talking heads talk. New scene. Rinse. Repeat.

The symmetry of the heroine’s fiancé and the hero’s girlfriend also having a second chance story adds to the sense of artifice.

But my biggest issues with this story, besides the verbally abusive hero, is the author’s violation of the housekeeping rules in HPs. I don’t know if it’s ever been spelled out, but here are the rules about housekeeping in HPs.*

During courtship the heroine shall do no housekeeping. The alpha hero will install the heroine in his mansion/flat/yacht and the heroine will not have to lift a finger. The heroine might chafe at her gilded cage, but she won’t have to dust it.

If the heroine does any kind of housekeeping during courtship, it will be freely given. She will make a candlelight dinner to announce her pregnancy to the hero who had a vasectomy or she will keep her flat in a squalid neighborhood pristine so that the hero knows she has self-respect but no money.

Only wimpy, fussy OM s care about the heroine’s ability to pinch a penny or make dresses like mother wears or have a well-ordered house. Any of these of demands are a red flag that this is the wrong guy.

If the hero forces housekeeping, it is for revenge. Usually the heroine has to learn to use a solid fuel cooker in the grotty stone cottage he has kidnapped her to. Or it is a test to determine how much character the rich socialite heroine really has. See King of Swords by Sara Craven for an example of forced housekeeping as revenge.

So what rule did the hero violate in this story? He fired his housekeeper when they moved in together. That’s right. He forced the heroine to do housekeeping during their courtship. He fussily complained about unmade beds and wasn’t appeased by the heroine upping her lingerie game. He’s still complaining about it when they meet again. What kind of hero is that?

There's not much she can do about the verbally abusive, immature hero, but I hope the heroine has an airtight pre-nup that stipulates she will have a housekeeper.

There was nothing wrong with the heroine except for the fact she was doomed as the HP heroine and was bound by contract to take hero back to find a HEA.
HE wanted a 1950 stay home barefoot and pregnant wife and so nothing wrong with that, and heroine agreed, except she pointed put the fact that he should have found a woman who wanted that along with him, not a career minded equally talented woman like her, then cut her in half and then mould her into a shape that he perceived of a good wife.
His response: you lying manipulating cheating bitch. You used me.
Heroine: HOW? I thought you were a cameraman, I had talent, you almost destroyed my career, HOW DID I USE YOU????
His response: you lying manipulating cheating bitch. You used me.
Next he asks her for a casting couch. publicly insults her, she deals with it professionally in 50 different level. Then tells him using first grade English, I'm refusing the role, he loses his shit, because he's horny, because even though he wasn't celibate during the 3 years of seperation, and she was, his libido took a overdrive, and when the truth hits home, that he now has to face that he has feelings for her and he was an asshole in the past, he says this is "secret casting couch" for the role she rejected. She once again tells him in no uncertain terms, she doesn't care if his dick falls off from all the aching, he almost raped her, and if he proceeds, it would be rape, because, yes she wants him, i mean 3 year's of celibacy, c'mon, but she said no, which means no, and if he can't treat her as equal as him, he can go fuck someone who likes to be submissive, not her.
His response: you lying manipulating cheating bitch. You used me.
Heroine: HOW? I thought you were a cameraman, I had talent, you almost destroyed my career, HOW DID I USE YOU????
His response: you lying manipulating cheating bitch. You used me.
Then SHE tries to compromise, which I personally see as grovel, you pathetic woman, I say over my bottle of patron!
He tells her she can give him logic, they are all true, but it doesn't matter. because HE doesn't believe the proof and logic no matter how true they are. HE believes she had lied, manipulated, betrayed and cheated on him, contrary to the evidence, he believes she's a bitch, even though he really liked her sexual advances, and it was a turn on, he now thinks that's what whores do, not good girls. The logic may indicate he was manipulative bastard who wanted to advance HIS career and destroy hers in the process and beat her into submission and make her into a docile housewife. That doesn't matter. He's a man, a man can dream, women can’t. He can be careerist, that's call driven, she can't be ambitious, that's call whoring. He hates her for making him love her, and giving up everything for him, but then not give up her career when he gave her an ultimatum, it doesn't matter that he never gave her a single inch. She then asks for five minutes of unbiased attention. He asks why the fuck should she get that. She had to spend more than 5 minutes explaining how SHE gave him a chance at the beginning. She didn't want to but he demanded that, and after that she kept giving him chances after chances, and he kept abusing and abusing her. Then finally he agrees to 5 minutes, and he wasn't even capable of that.

So she leaves, and he cozies up with OW, which later both him and OW claims were VERY platonic!!!!!

He kept on calling her lying manipulative cheating bitch, yet she NEVER lied about ANYTHING. HE manipulated HER. There was nothing in the whole book that went against him so how was she manipulative? And cheating? She was a 25 year old virgin and he was her one and only lover. She stayed celibate throughout the whole separation!
Now to his lack of celibacy!!!!
He had at least two LONG-TERM relationships!!!!!
with homely woman who did all the housekeeping job as well as the f***ing!!! shockers! he couldn't engage himself to have conversation with them. This guy was a piece of work! He wanted a housewife, but not with a woman with housewife material. There are plenty of woman who enjoys being a housewife. He needs our particular heroine, then if needed physically beat her and mould her into the shape of a 1950 housewife, I think this hero should give up directing and should get a lead role for a husband at a new remake of "The Stepford Wives".
And this is basically every third page:
His response: you lying manipulating cheating bitch. You used me.
Heroine: HOW? I thought you were a cameraman, I had talent, you almost destroyed my career, HOW DID I USE YOU????
His response: you lying manipulating cheating bitch. You used me.
She walks away frustrated, and I bang my head on the wall.

I absolutely loved this book! It was passionate and exciting from the very first page till the last one! Famous movie director Jared and Christie Amethyst were lovers years ago and they had intended to get married.

Until heroine who was a struggling actress decided that she didn't want to be a housewife but a big successful movie star. Now 3 years later they meet again at a Hollywood party. Hero is there with his girlfriend and heroine is there with her fiancé.

But Jared and Christie never got over each other and once they meet again sparks fly and passion takes over even though Jared still hates her for choosing her career and ambitions over him. So he offers her the role of a lifetime but only if she sleeps with him. Christie who is a super ambitious woman is tempted but can't risk losing her heart again!

If you love a great Alpha male and a vulnerable but feisty, strong heroine with spirit then you will absolutely love this book! It is so passionate and intense I couldn't put it down. Plus SH writes the hottest sex scenes!

"It’s you I love. What you are, what you were, what you’ve made of yourself, and what you will be…’

"I’ll be so much more,’ she whispered, ‘if you stay with me forever."

‘Oh, I’ll be with you until doomsday!’ he said thickly, lowering his head to kiss her. ‘Till the skies turn cold, the stars fall to earth and the moon herself turns to blue fire…"

- Jared & Christie

Don`t let these three lines fool you into thinking this is a rainbow trip into romanceland. Indeed romance does exist, but there is to much hatred, revenge, bitterness and so much verbal and disgusting insults and toxicness that i for one second thought, these two will never make it into HEA. This is about a divorced marriage couple that haven`t seen each other for three years. We have the famous director and scriptwriter Jared Buchanan who thinks he found his perfect wife in the aspiring actress Christie McCall but eventually when they do marry they clash because of their different dreams and aspirations. Jared wants a traditional wife, Christie wants to become a famous star. I had a grim expression when the flashback of their break up showed. Now when they reunite Jared is obviously the one who is the more bitter and angry about it, more of the reason of what a star Christie did become without him and that she got herself engaged to another man. Man did this man know how to hurt his heroine, again and again while still being unable to keep his hands away from her. All the disgusting things he called her,omg...even proposing the casting couch made me wanna strangle him with my hands. Can`t believe Christie didn`t do it herself.

"Blue Fire" is the story of Christie and Jared.

In this passionate story, an estranged couple reunites when a weekend getaway leads to a surprise confrontation. They are both with different beaus now, insanely jealous and yet, still in love. They broke up three years later when the hero asked the heroine to choose between having a career or a family, and the heroine chose the former. Now engaged to her tame manager, she never expects to meet the hero again..or realize that he is not only directing the movie, but he has also based the whorish lead on her!

This book is high on angst, crazy jealousy, insane possessiveness, name calling, drama and confrontation. We have three couples meddling in each other's lives on a weekend.I liked how the hero and heroine realized and confronted their past issues, instead of pushing it under the rug. Oh and the lovemaking was SMOKIN!

So much..sexiness!

Maybe the author didn't realize it but she wrote an enjoyable parody of romance, complete with drama, high rising tension, irrationality, insanity and raging jealousy.
It was too funny.
However, I don't think that the book, she ended up with, was something she intented to accomplish.

Emotional 2nd chance romance.
They meet again 3 yrs later at a Hollywood party.
He (a famous movie director)shows up with his girlfriend, and she(actress) with her fiancé manager.( both couples were not sleeping together).

What’s annoying is that her fiancé cheats on her flagrantly with the hero’s girlfriend during this party and everyone knows about it! They too have a history you see, she’s actually his great love. It’s humiliating for the h to go through that, while dealing with the H hatefulness. You can tell that they’re still passionately in love and were not over each other.

Basic plot;
When she was 25, she fell in love with the director H. They moved in and were about to get married, but they ended up breaking up, because he wanted to turn her into a 50s wifey, while she wanted to be a famous actress before turning into baby machine/cleaning lady. He gave her an ultimatum, either stay and marry him, or go to the Hollywood audition…she picked movies..

Honestly, I found their arguments funny, but when the cheating started- her making out with the hero when she’s engaged, then seeing her fiancé coming out of ow room —just turned me off from the story. Just not in the mood for this kind of drama! DNF but it had its good moments ( hero was nuts about her).

Safety
She remained celibate.
He didn’t.
H kisses ow in front of h.

Here’s what he said about the ow he was involved with during separation,

, ‘I picked sweet, wholesome, ordinary women,’ Jared said deeply, his arms around her slender, beautiful body in the pale satin gown that shrieked glamorous film star. ‘I had long relationships with them, all of them. Got them to cook for me, wash my clothes, look after me the way I thought a real woman should.’ He sighed, shaking his dark head. ‘And I was fond of all of them, terribly fond. But I didn’t love them. And, worse than that, I couldn’t even hold a conversation with any of them.’‘

“I tried so hard to make my relationships with them work,’ Jared said deeply. ‘Both here and in England. I told myself every night that they were what I wanted, what I’d spent my life dreaming of, and that we would have wonderful, happy children who would have the mother I never had, and the home I always needed.’
Christie listened, her eyes filled with love and understanding.
‘But, of course,’ he said thickly, ‘in the darkest hours of the night, when I needed someone close to me who understood without being told, who knew what I had been through without having to be given a step-by-step guide book to the whole emotional journey…’ His eyes darkened with passionate love. ‘That was when I missed you the most, Chris.’

Well, this turned out to be a disappointment! I thought I would like it at first: the H and h unexpectedly meeting again after three years, all the repressed feelings coming to the surface, the love/hate stuff, and a Hollywood background, with her being an actress and him a director, and them meeting again at the house party of the studio head and his wife, surrounded by the who's who of the silver screen, and with the OM (the h's agent/fiancé) there with her, and the H with the OW (his current girlfriend), who happens to be the ex-girlfriend of the OM!! She's supposed to star in his new picture, but can they work together with all this mess???

Well, you never find out because the author decides to screw up the story by making it too convoluted! Too much time is wasted with the silly antics of the OM/OW, arguing, insulting each other, throwing things, and acting like hormonal teenagers rather than (supposed) adults! They broke up out of stupidity, each thought the other cheated, and pride/anger kept them apart. And who cares, anyway? The story's not about them, yet they get all these ridiculous scenes, (especially that last hokey one, which the author should have been shot for writing), with time taken away from the H and h, who end up acting ridiculous as well!

Talk about a couple of nincompoops! When they first met, the H knew the h wanted to be a movie star, yet he later acts all butt hurt because she won't give it up to be a housewife/mother. He acts like she wanted the white picket fence from the start, then blindsided him by suddenly opting for a show business career. And she never said she didn't want to marry him and have children, just wanted to wait a few years. She was 25 and figured if she waited until she was about 29 or 30 to have a baby, she'd have those few years first to try and get more from her career than a small part in a local soap opera. Even if she didn't want a career, why the hurry to have a baby, what's wrong with a few years to themselves? But he took the "my way or the highway" route, which is the real reason she left, not career ambitions.

You would think he'd want them to be a team, with him already rich and famous as a director, he could have helped her career immensely, they could have worked together! (Didn't he ever hear of George Burns and Gracie Allen? Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz? Alfred Lunt and Lynne Fontanne? Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy? David Selznick and Jennifer Jones? et. etc. etc.?? Apparently not.)

He was so off base, like accusing her of using him! How? She didn't even know who he was when they met, and she never expected anything from him careerwise. Also, she was 25 and a virgin, so if she were going to play sex games to further her career she would have done it by then! And to tell her that at that age, is she isn't a star she probably never would be was really hitting where it hurts!

It was ridiculous when he fired the housekeeper for the six months they lived together, so she could do the cooking and housework! Why???? Wealthy men NEVER want their women to do domestic chores when they can afford someone to take care of all that. (She made an effort to please him, but her heart wasn't in it, and who can blame her when he made it a requirement?) The story just got more and more silly.

And that whole "casting couch" nonsense was stupid, repetitive and very ANNOYING!!!

As for her: it did get pretty tiresome for her to go on and on and on and on (AND ON) about how much she wanted to be a star, needed to be a star, had to make up for her crappy family life (never explained), had to be a star to escape the earth, and all this melodrama got to be barf-making after a while! Okay, we get it, now please forget it!

He had issues, too: he HAD to be rich and famous to make up for being a nobody, nothing orphan! That'll teach Mom and Dad for croaking on me!

These two had so many issues a few decades of therapy wouldn't have done the trick!

The story has too many starts and stops, with them almost doing the deed, leaving him hard, her wet and both frustrated. He thinks shed been sleeping with the OM ever since she hired him as her agent, when in truth they had never slept together, not even when they got engaged. They were marrying out of friendship and loneliness, and because she still loved the H and he still loved the OW, and yes, they really are that DUMB! Imagine what a fiasco their wedding night would have been! And yes, the engagement goes kaput!

As for the H and the OW: they were just friends too, never slept together, and spend the past few years talking about (and pining for) their lost loves. Not that the H didn't have any action those three years apart, as he dated a lot and had a few affairs, hoping to find the wife/mother he thought the h refused to be, only to discover that none of these women ever understood him the way the h did, that a true soul mate is someone you share with, someone who knows you and accepts the good with the bad, not someone who fills a role you think they should play, especially if it doesn't fit them.

The h gets a revelation too, as she realizes how much she wants to be with the H, marry him, have his children, be a fulfilled woman, she still wants to act, but it's not the priority she used to be. (She should have gotten a clue by the fact that no guy had gotten near her in three years, except for a few unexciting kisses from the OM when they were engaged. Had she really gone Hollywood, she'd have spent half her time naked with half the guys in tinsel town. She kept herself in cold storage for the H, whom she never stopped loving.)

Then there are pages and pages and pages (AND PAGES) of them talking about this, that, and the other thing, as if they're trying to psychoanalyze each other, and doing a BORING job of it! And when they FINALLY hit the sheets, what a letdown that was! Pages and pages (AND PAGES) of mechanical sex moves! The author took too long for the love/sex scene so when it happened it just didn't work.

What the author should have done was have them make the movie together, get more into the idea that the H believes the h is like the character in the movie (a femme fatale type, who'll do anything to be a star, including use her body when necessary), have a lot of tension, as well as revelations when he sees how good an actress she is, and work their story into the movie one.

Instead, she turned it into a mediocre mess.

"Blue Fire" was a pretty weak flame!
