Just Like The Rest Of The Nation, Charlie Is Crazy For Baseball Star Beck Sutherland
The only difference is Charlie saw him first. The two were roommates together at college, and even played together on the college baseball team.
Now, Charlie’s finally made it to pro baseball too. Joining the Giants with his old buddy marks a dream come true, but… unfortunately, being around Beck stirs up a thousand old feelings he figured he had a handle on. When a crazy night of partying in Vegas results in a knot they never meant to tie.
But what happens if Charlie’s not the only one with embedded old feelings? And what if there’s a lot more to Beck Sutherland than even his old friend knows about? They’re going to need to knock this situation out of the park if they want to walk away unscathed.
This book was formerly titled One Strike, You're Out
Adding a little something at the end of a story to pad the page count is one thing. Adding TWENTY-TWO additional stories is entirely another! This "book" finished at 4% in...and I'm not going to waste my time reading the extras here.
I only read it because it was so short, knowing it wouldn't be a time suck even if it did suck. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't particularly good. Alternating POV means that we know how each of the MCs feel, but they really don't communicate with each other. At the end, I would've been royally pissed at what Beck did without input from Charlie.
Anyway, free books are nice, but it's also nice to know how much of the book you're getting is free and how much is "freebie"!
So, this was a cute, SHORT, shallow read about two old friends who get married while drunk and just... go for it. I enjoyed it, even though it SERIOUSLY stretched reality on how smoothly one can accept being an out professional sports player.
My actual complaint... according to my kindle, this book was 8% of the file. 8! By my math, that means 92% of this file is NOT this book. When I was done, the reader said I had 6 more hours to read. That's absurd! I do not want 8% content, 92% "bonus" nonsense. It made the book feel that much shallower, because the expectation was set for it to NOT be a novella, when it is.
M/M Romance - 2019 Q2 Read Your TBR Quarterly Challenge ~ Seasons Edition Line item #8, an MC who plays baseball
A first time read from this author and I was quite surprised by the beautifully crafted contemporary premise. Not much of a sports fan, but the romantic story line and well constructed characterization made the experience entertaining.
The Groom and His Groom by Walker Frost This is Charlie Adams and Beck Sutherland’s story.
Charlie and Beck were roommates in college. They are now playing on a pro baseball team. Charlie has always had feelings for Beck but didn’t want to do anything to hurt their friendship.
This is a friends to lovers romance that while in Vegas they end up drinking too much and find themselves married. First problem is that Charlie lives Beck but Beck is straight. Second problem how will the media and the baseball world react if they find out Charlie and Beck are married?
This is a quick and at times a funny read. FYI, contains mature content. This is a MM romance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Charlie and Beck were college roommates and whilst Charlie was openly gay back then, he's now joined the same professional team as Beck who's already made a success of his career and has to be more circumspect.
Beck is straight but pleased that his best friend has hit the big time too.
Following an evening of celebration and too many shots the guys wake up in Vegas married!
The question is what do they do about it, their feelings and how will it affect their careers?
A nice easy read and good to see that Beck is a brave man. He did well to accept and adapt his new reality as well as he did.
It may be short but the characters and story line stand up well given its length.
I received a free advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Groom and His Groom is a light-hearted, quick read. The story is fast-paced, so much so, that it did feel a bit rushed at times. Charlie and Beck are likable characters and I enjoyed the banter between them. When they wake up in Vegas, married, poor Beck is a little out of sorts. Considering that this pair has been friends since college and are now teammates, they do have good chemistry and Beck's little speeches as he makes certain revelations about himself were nothing short of adorable. If you're looking for a light-hearted, entertaining story with low angst, then this is one to check out and it's the perfect length for a quick, bedtime read.
MM. Baseball romance. Charlie has crushed on Beckett since they were college roommates. Now being teammates brings its own form of torture for Charlie and his continued feelings for Beck, the known womanizer. Beck is not known for expressing his feelings, but he enjoys the easiness he feels toward Charlie. His side-glance at Charlie are great. Not so great he always turns to alcohol when stressed. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Tropes galore! We’ve got friends to lovers, sexual awakening, drunken Vegas wedding and sportsball. Should be perfect, yes?
Well, here’s the thing. I wanted about 100 more pages. But I’m greedy like that.
That being said, it’s a sweet book (with the exception of one scene there’s no on page shmexy times), low angst factor and a good palette cleanser between heavier books. Will definitely try another title from this author.
Verrrrrry short and sweet. Could have been more developed. An athlete can abruptly make a public announcement but a straight one so fast in the relationship sound unbelievable. This book need More page, more devlopment, more understanding of his sexuality and it could be a very good book.
Beck and Charlie is a story of friends to lovers and G4Y theme. With the exception of one part all the heat is behind the scenes of unmentioned on page with a lot of fighting to get to the root of one person's hidden emotions. Over all the was a sweet romance.
I really like the story and how it becomes a super romantic sports comedy. I really enjoy it. I wish It was longer. Totally recommend to anyone who wants something simple for an evening.
There are no new stories. There is just the point A to point B. Boy meets girl or boy meets boy or girl meets girl, love really is just love. Stumbling across the same story over and over again is a natural consequence of reading far too many books. So if you’ve heard the one about the two best friends, one straight and one gay that wake up married in Vegas after a drunken night neither one remembers – don’t be surprised to hear it again.
Walker Frost is telling that story featuring two baseball phenoms, Charlie and Beck. The morning after with a pounding headache and decked out in a cheap tux and then Charlie started laughing his a— off, from that moment I knew this was different. Same old story – maybe – but this is how it’s done.
As a sports themed MM romance this does OK. The story works and there’s enough background to help. Reasonable amount of character development but the book needs the services of a good editor. There are incorrect words used, missing words and a few regional inaccuracies which interfere with the story flow. I’ve never heard a baseball field called a pitch - a diamond, sure but pitch is British for the field where games are played.
I grade this as "needs improvement." The plot could be good, but it needs a lot more care & attention to get there. It moves way too quickly to be at all believable & in the places it slows down the focus is too distracted to help the story along. It's not horrible, but it fails to make any real impact. I skimmed a bit & didn't miss anything vital. Overall, I read it & am now likely to forget all about it.
A really good read two best friends dealing with their feeling towards one of them and the other accepting his sexuality ,roomie back in college and now pro baseball players on the same team ,one night in Vegas ends up waking up in bed together with marriage license and wedding rings

I would have given this 5* if it had been developed into something longer as the characters and story line could definitely stand up to it.
