Smash Into You: Rook and Zenaida

Rate this book
After spending time with him on Christmas, Zenaida hates Rook just as much as she always has. Regardless of the way he kissed or caressed her. Or—Ugh! It wasn’t that good. There’s no reason to obsess over him… Or is there? No matter how many times Zenaida tells him it’s the last time, Rook knows she’s lying. It was too good to her. Hell, it was too good to him. That’s the only reason he’s still thinking about her. He can’t stand that girl down to her soul, but damnit if it wouldn’t feel good to backslide. In Round 1, Rook and Zenaida fought as hard as they could, but in the end, couldn’t win the fight to keep their hands off each other. In Round 2, it’s not just their hands they’re fighting to hold back. It’s their hearts as well. Can they put their mutual animosity aside to give love a chance and stop swinging? *This is book two of a two-part series. *

Frenemies to lovers

I had been wanting to read Rook and Zenaida's story for awhile, but it wasn't on KU 🤷🏾‍♀️ So while I haven't read the Christmas story where they hooked up, I had enough details from previous books to understand the dynamic of their relationship.

Rook and Zenaida are bonafide enemies. They have been at war since middle school, and it had lasted until their mid 30s. One Christmas all that anger turns into sexual tension that cannot be denied. These two go from frenemies to exclusive fk buddies. Somewhere along the way they are becoming.... more. They are constantly together and despite saying y funny want a relationship their reality is slowly changing. These two were childish together lol, but I enjoyed their evolution.

P.S. That Max situation was hella wild, she needed a psychiatrist bad.

These two were a mess…the true definition of enemies to lovers…especially living next door to one another growing up together….It took them a minute to admit that they liked one another….they continued just sneaking around having sex….

**SPOILERS**

I absolutely loved Smash Into You. I was so ecstatic we got this follow-up on Rook and Zenaida. Their story is hilarious and sweet. Emphasis on hilarious because, I laughed throughout this entire book. “Girl, they’re gonna dodgeball gangbang you." was just one of the many funny lines in this book. Zenaida was being just as stubborn, if not more, as she was in On Sight. I've never seen a character work so hard to not be attracted to someone. She really did love and hate that man at the same time. Rook had the patience of Job. He's been dealing with Zenaida since they were kids so, he already knew what it was when he decided he wanted a relationship with her. He just had to get Zenaida on board but, he didn't make it easy for her. I loved how Rook told her he would not continue to guess how she felt about him. Zenaida had to put her big girl panties on, use her words, and tell Rook how she really felt about him. Yeah, he knew how to handle Zenaida just fine. I must say, I did not see that pregnancy coming. Hell, even I thought she was joking when Zenaida was being flippant about telling Rook she was pregnant. I loved Sip and Paint outing where some of the ladies from previous novels were in attendance. We got to see a few of my faves from the Mason clan. My only complaint with this book, was the part of the storyline with Maxine. The author waited too late in the book to give us the drama with her. Even I missed Maxine's feeling for Rook. I thought she was just the home girl/quirky next door neighbor who stole his food. We should've been able to read that conversation between Max and Zenaida instead of getting it second hand. The confrontation between Rook and Max was rather anticlimactic because, again, her feeling for him came out of nowhere. And, then, we didn't really get any resolution. In the epilogue, Rook said things with Max escalated but didn't go into any details. I would've liked to know what escalated. That part of the storyline was not very well developed. The same thing with Rook's mama. He said she was suing him but, it was never brought up again. Please stop introducing these subplots if you're not going to follow through with them. Aside from that small hiccup, Smash Into You was a funny but, romantic read. I really enjoyed it. Seeing as how Rook and Zenaida aren't married yet, I wouldn't be opposed to a wedding book in the near future.

This book was so good! Talk about being in denial chile cause Zenaida wanted to stay hating this man! Its funny how they both tried to fight what they were feeling to the nail but Rook realized sooner that he wanted Zenaida. Wanted her more than just hook ups but everything and enjoyed spending time with her. Zenaida also enjoyed those things but whew she was super stubborn. When this couple finally gets it together I wasn't suprised when the messy neighbor Max tries to ruin it smh. To be honest Rook should've been shut that down but I'm glad Rook eventually handled that. Overall this book made me smile, laugh, frustation, and love with these two characters! I wish their story wasn't over! I definitely recommend the enemies to lovers with some hilarious moments!

I had so much fun reading this little series. I swear I want to keep reading more and more about Zenaida and Rook. They're hilarious and so much fun. Smash Into You is the conclusion to their story. This is a duology so if you want to get to know them you should start with On Sight. It's sort of like a prologue, how they started sleeping together on Christmas. This one right here is more like the main story because you see their relationship develop and glossed out more and more during each new chapter.

Rook and Zenaida have been childhood nemeses forever. Everyone knows they can't be in the same room without throwing fists. But now after their little Christmas sexy time, they can't seem to stop going back for seconds. Which makes Zenaids so angry because she hates wanting Rook so baaaaad. Rook knows what he's doing and he knows he's got her in the palm of his hand but not really because you realize that Rook has been hers since the first moment. I love the little moments between them; Rook cooking for her even though he finds her so annoying, Rook opening his door for her at 3 in the morning and chasing her all over his place after a night out.

There's some accidental pregnancy also so you bet I was enjoying this! I loved the timeline of their relationship and AshleyNicole just got me there. She had my full attention during the whole book and I just kept wanting more and more. Rook and Zenaida are beautiful people and I just loved every second I spent getting to know them and their love story.

4.8⭐️ (I wanted the Epilogue to end slightly different lol But, it was still a cute & funny read though🥰!)

📚 Enemies to Lovers; great read!

I loved the humor in this book, as childhood enemies, Rook and Zenaida, turn into the lovers they were destined to be 🥰 Their banter was cute and funny, and the drama was very mild, just enough to add a little somethin somethin’ this short story.
Very well written, and great story line by the Author, AshleyNicole.

Really, really good

This was really good. It was funny and cute and spicy. Z and Rook made a great enemies to lovers story because the feelings didn't disappear, they shifted. It was natural.

So good. I am happy Rook and Zenaida stopped playing. This was not a typical enemy to lovers' story. They cracked me up with all the tomfoolery.

I wish authors would stop writing characters like Maxine who exist simply to fulfill the “crazy other woman” trope. I really dislike the trope and it’s sexist origins. In the beginning, I thought Maxine and Rook’s friendship would be a positive representation of a platonic relationship between a man and a woman (a relationship type I think is woefully underrepresented in romance). Instead we got whatever that was 🤷🏾‍♀️. Not a fan

Funny read

This was such a funny read. Not only are Zenaida and Rook hilarious but so are Zenaida’s friends and parents. This picked right back up from Rook and Zenaida’s fling at Christmas in On Sight. I was hoping there would be a part two for them because they were too cute, I just knew they would fight and argue their way into a relationship and sure enough they did. I like how Rook put his foot down when necessary and Zenaida would fall right in line. I wasn’t expecting the climax but I was so here for it and her families response was hilarious, I was laying in bed reading trying so hard not to wake up my husband it was so funny. Of course it would end with them having to deal with how bad they were as kids fighting each other and now someone else fighting them.

There was minimal drama, most of the drama came from the neighbor who would walk her ass in Rook’s house and eat up all his food. I kept thinking to myself there is no way I would let my neighbor freeload off me like that I wouldn’t be able to do it. I wasn’t shocked at all about her hidden motives. I always like when AshleyNicole manages to weave the other couples into the stories. Inalia was something else I am hoping she gets a story so we can get an update on who the muscle man is in this story, is he a Mason? I need to know..

AshleyNicole came through again with a feel good funny story but whether it's a serious read or a funny story sis never disappoints. I honestly can’t even tell you whether I prefer her serious reads or her funny reads because I just love them all. This was a feel good story with a super cute and funny ending.

Ready To Rumble

Man, look, when I say I loved this one, I truly mean it. These two boxing match fighters (not really, they're just always ready to rumble with each other) were pretty much destined to be together. Deeply rooted haters of each other since birth and well into their adulthood...Yikes.

Rook and Zenaida were beyond brutal to each other growing up and although I shouldn't have, I found their tit for tat relationship so funny.

This was such an hilarious read. That scene of Zenaida after she took those gunmies... I had actual tears from laughing so hard. That was so wild. This whole freaking book had my stomach aching from laughter.

Something is seriously off with that Max chick. I mean, I get being a bit jealous, yet closed mouths don't get fed and what she did was super foul. I'm glad Rook took action immediately, yet he could've dealt with her sooner and that might not have happened. Yet, given her demeanor, it probably would've happened sooner, if not something worse.

AshleyNicole has quickly become an author that I want to read all of her catalog. Her humor is off the charts. Her writing skills are impeccable and I just like the vibes of her books.

Highly suggest this one.

Still Crazy

This book was nothing short of amazing! A great sequel to On Sight. Rook and Zenaida were still hilarious as hell, but what I enjoyed the most was the Sip and Paint outing where most of the ladies from previous novels were in attendance. That was so dope, and I wouldn't mind reading a crossover novel sometime in the future with more characters from previous books. I also enjoyed the 'Living Single' TV show references that were sprinkled here and there in the novel. That was a cute addition.

All in all, it was a great ending to the series...IF this is our last time seeing these two in action.

Can't wait for the next novel.

Cute!

This book is refreshing and well written! Zenaida and Rook are both funny and entertaining to say the least. I’m glad the author didn’t see fit to have the characters going back and forth about their feelings incessantly as a lot of authors do just to add drama. There was never a time that I got agitated with stupid stuff as I usually do in books like this. These characters are in their mid 30s, which gave it a whole grown and sexy but yet young and playful vibe. I loved everything about it.

Awesome enemies to lovers story

AN never disappoints and Rook and Zee’s story is no different. Absolutely loved the chemistry and the fact that the snarky banter did not disappear once they became more. Loved Rook’s no nonsense approach even with Zenaida was immature. The plot twist was also an interesting surprise and I liked how it was ultimately handled - that’s what friends are for! LOL Benny having to cashapp Dad $500 was hilarious! Get that money Daddy! LOL

Zanaida and Rook, lifelong enemies

This was a quick, funny read. I enjoyed both Zenaida and Rook. They were equally ridiculous, acting mote like middle school kids than thirty something's. And that dodgeball game was hilarious. I actually felt those hits, lol. Another well done story from Ms. Nicole. If you have three or four hours to set aside for a steamy story with good humor, this is the story to read.

These two had me rolling

I really liked Rook and Zenaida, they kept me laughing throughout. It was really enjoyable and slightly different. I love how they stuck to their guns regarding the whole marriage thing. I really wanted to read more about the subplot with his neighbor max. It was a missed opportunity there because it’s just feels like her feeling came out of nowhere. Also what happened with his mom, he last mentions that she’s suing him, then nothing more.

Loved How This Unfolded

I’m so glad that we got to see more from this couple. Their story is so funny and sweet. Rook is such an attractive leading man. I like that he has baggage like any adult, but he never seemed broken. Zenaida doesn’t spend half the book trying to heal him. He’s just a solid, lovable man. I hope this family pops up again in future books. I love them.

Natural progression

I really enjoyed this book. When I read the first part, I did not get the "really love you so much that I hate you" vibe about Rook and Zenaida. Lol. Ashley was able to bring this story around and make it believable. It was genuine and their story progressed naturally. It was a really good read.

Rook and Zenaida

I’m convinced that Ashley Nicole can write anything! Rook and Zenaida were downright hilarious. Their hate/hate relationship that carried them into adulthood was entertaining to say the least. Loved how things changed and the ending. Laughter is good medicine and there’s plenty here!

Hate to love

This was a good read. It was funny and cute.

Z and Rook were made for each other but couldn’t get passed their feud. Crazy how the feud carried over into their situationship.

The paint and sip night with the gummies was hilarious.

Great read

I liked the relationship between Rook and Zenaida. I liked that they did things on their terms. It would have been nice to get an explanation on why Rook entertained Max. I never saw 1 redeeming quality. Was this a nod to #Maxine Shaw”? I would have also liked to know in what ways did her behavior escalate?
