Little does he know, the outcome will be nothing like he’s planned.
Do you enjoy westerns and/or historical fiction? Then I recommend grabbing a copy of Lassoed by the Lawman. Author Renae Brumbaugh did a great job of placing the reader in the old west, where women dreamed of many things, and that didn’t always include a Texas Ranger.
Strong characters with caring hearts, both Juliana and Cody were wonderfully written. Cody makes an excellent hero, by the way. Ups and downs, lots of emotions, intrigue, along with a sweet romance gives this story something for everyone. I was really surprised as to who the bad guy was! I wonder if you’ll be able to figure it out?
The scripture verses included made this a decidedly a work of Christian fiction but it was not preachy at all. Wholesome with a Christian thread, Lassoed by the Lawman is definitely worth the read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
This story sweeps across the western sky of Texas where cattle roam the land. I absolutely love this book so much that I must demand that it be made into a movie. I have picked out the actors already and know it would be a hit. Oh the author has definitely done her finest work in this book. It is my favorite of hers and I am in awe of her talent. She is able to take readers in the world of ranching where you feel as if you are there helping along with the ranch hands.
Juliana is a great character with a big heart. I loved how she embraced living on a ranch and helped whenever she could. She definitely has spunk and zest for life. She has a big dream but she also wants to please her papa and mama. It is evident to me that Juliana isn’t in love but she felt it was her duty to marry this person . She has much to think about when the ranger shows up at the ranch.
Cody is everything you would hope for in a hero. Being a Texas ranger can be dangerous but his faith guides him as he takes on a job that sets the stage for an adventure into lies, cattle rustling and danger. I love that the story is set in my state and the author does a good job of representing it in a realistic way.
There is wonderful scriptures in the story as well as faith that weaves throughout the pages. I couldn’t wait to find our who was behind the mysterious disappearance of cattle. The fight is on as Cody finds himself on the wrong side of a fist. Again I find myself being reminded of the scripture, “the love of money is the root of all evil.” Men become angry when they feel their pride has been stomped on and set out to destroy a family. Cody has his hands full trying to do his job.
As much as I liked the adventure in the story I was really drawn to the romance as well. It is sweet, innocent and oh so swoon worthy to read. Two people who had no intention of falling in love find themselves trying to fight their feelings. In the story I loved the example of “laying down your life for a friend.” It is a great illustration of unconditional love.
The ending of the book is action packed and surprising at times. I didn’t suspect who was behind the crimes being committed and it saddened me when it was revealed. The enemy is always lurking around looking to find someone who can be deceived and used for evil. It is a great story that features characters who must overcome danger, lies and greed. I’m sad to say goodbye to this series but will be awaiting the author’s next book with great anticipation.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Christian Historical Fiction is a favorite genre of mine. Mix in some Western genre and the book is a must read for me. Lassoed by the Lawman by Renae Brumbaugh Green is the 3rd and final book in The Texas Ranger series. I have not read the first 2 in the series, but I was able to jump in an follow the storyline very well.
Juliana Duke loves dresses and has dreamed of owning a Dress Shop. Her dream will probably always stay a dream, as she is an only child. Her family owns a ranch and she is supposed to marry a Rancher and hopefully have a son who would eventually take over the Family Ranch. Lt. Cody Steves, who is a Texas Ranger, has a chance meeting with Juliana Duke. Cody Steves has dreams of marriage and a family, as he continues to work as a Texas Ranger. He worries though about leaving a widow and children behind, as being a Ranger is a dangerous job. Cody and Juliana both are attracted to one another. Cody steps in to rescue Juliana when danger presents itself on the Ranch. Will Cody realize that love endures all and continue with a relationship with Juliana? Will Juliana find her "Rancher" that will create a family and future Ranchers for the Family Ranch? Will Cody choose being a Ranger over being a Rancher?
I truly enjoyed this story. The setting of Texas, the Romance, the Inspirational Bible Scriptures, the Mystery all make it a wonderful read. The Characters Juliana and Cody both have great personalities and their dreams and wants in life are similar, but different. The author has a great writing style that brings the reader into the story from the very beginning! Though this is the 3rd book in the series, it reads great as a Standalone novel! Fantastic Book!
As best I can tell, Lassoed by the Lawman is the first book I’ve read by Renae Brumbaugh Green but I can guarantee it won’t be my last. I admittedly have a weakness for books about Texas, cowboys, and Texas Rangers so I’m not sure why I have not already discovered this author’s books. I will definitely be checking out more of them as soon as possible.
Juliana Duke is the only child of a successful rancher and although she has big dreams of her own, her desire is to please their parents. That means marrying the man they have chosen for her but she just can’t seem to set a date. Along comes Texas Ranger Cody Steves to help discover those responsible for stealing her father’s cattle. Despite her potential plans to marry someone else, Juliana finds herself instantly attracted to Cody and the attraction is obviously mutual.
Juliana and Cody’s story is filled with plenty of danger, action, suspense, misunderstandings, betrayal, and of course a sweet yet sizzling romance. Well written with plenty of vivid images of life on the ranch and excellent characterization, Lassoed by the Lawman moved along at a steady pace and made me want to discover what would happen next. I was not disappointed! I did have some suspicions but found myself in for some pretty big surprises before the grand finale.
If you love westerns as I do, you will not want to miss Lassoed by the Lawman and I assume the other novels by this new favorite author.
I voluntarily reviewed a digital copy of this book provided by Celebrate Lit. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
This is the third and final book in the Texas Ranger Series but it can definitely be read as a stand alone. I had no problems following the story. The story draws you right in as we meet our hero Cody singing on his horse heading towards the Duke ranch to help out with a cattle rustling problem. In the process he meets Juliana Duke and fights the attraction that he feels for her once he learns she is the boss's daughter. He also believes he has no time for marriage or relationships as his job takes him to different locations and its a dangerous job to boot. Juliana is a tender soul. She dreams of being a dressmaker but doesn't want to disappoint her parents so she follows everything that they want for her, marriage included. Although she also has a strong pull towards Cody she gives in to her parents wishes.
This story is filled with suspense and a bit of mystery as you are trying to figure out who is the culprit of the horse rustling. I will say that I had my first suspect right away and there were some I wasn't expecting! Of course I am not going to tell you that information, you will have to go grab the book! I loved how the author had a Bible verse at the beginning of each chapter, they flowed very nicely with the story.
Overall I thought this was a pretty enjoyable story. It was my first by this author but it certainly won't be my last! If you enjoy stories about Texas Rangers, suspense and of course romance then you should definitely grab this one!
I received this book through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Prose: Pretty good! Nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed the smooth flow and easy style.
Romance: This was by far my favorite part! Especially the last few chapters. It was so sweet and perfect!
Characters: *chef’s kiss* this was SO well done. This probably contributed to the romance portion being so well done. Everyone was super well developed and very realistic, even the side characters and ‘bad’ characters.
Plot: Honestly, this was a lot more high-stakes than I usually read! I enjoyed the fast pace and the focus on Cody doing his job rather than the romance.
Overall: This book was definitely worth the read! I enjoyed the fast-paced plot and the slow, sweet romance complemented it perfectly. Juliana was exactly the kind of character you look for in a western story, and as somebody who sews, I loved the whole thing with the dresses.
Content: Includes some gunfighting/people getting shot. Includes a kiss (or two?) Nothing that was over-described or made me uncomfortable. Probably 14+
What I think you should know: Lassoed by the Lawman is the third book in The Texas Rangers series by Renae Brumbaugh Green. This book can be a standalone, however it does give a few small spoilers as the prior books in the series. It is a historical fiction set on a large ranch in South Texas in 1882.
What I think about this book: Oh I have a soft spot for a Texas Ranger, make him a singing Ranger and I am sold! I think that Cody might be my favorite hero in this series. Juliana has been raised with the expectation of marrying Miguel, the second in charge at her father’s ranch. However she longs to be seen as someone other than Oscar Duke’s daughter. I love how she had a feminine side ( dress designer), but wasn’t afraid to help out with even the hardest chores on the ranch. The author has written a sweet, yet fast paced novel that starts out with Cody falling off his horse into a cactus and keeps me entertained every page after! I adored this book. I highly recommend every book in the series and hate to see it come to an end.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Lassoed by the Lawman is the third book Renae Brumbaugh Green's The Texas Rangers series. I personally had not read the previous books in this series, and found that it read well as a standalone.
This story drew me in right from the start as we were introduced to our hero Cody in the perfect RomCom type of scenario. I couldn't help but smile, and found myself doing so again and again throughout the story. It definitely had that sort of RomCom feel to the story--- just set in the 1800s Texas! Juliana's character was just as well written and I couldn't help but be drawn into these two characters. I wanted to get to know them each better and I so enjoyed watching their romance grow.
While I enjoyed the romance, it wasn't the only thing going for it. It was a rather fast paced story, with a perfect blend of adventure... which is something I expect from a good cowboy type of story. It also has beautiful messages of faith weaved throughout the story as well.
Overall, a sweet read and one that fans of sweet cowboy romances are sure to enjoy!
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
Lassoed by the Lawman By: Renae Brumbaugh Green is a Christian Historical Fiction story. This book is book 3 in the Texas Ranger book series. I have read book one but not book 2. This story is set in Western Texas with all the cattle. Juliana Duke is an only child. She knows that she has to marry and produce a male heir for the Duke Ranch. She seems to enjoy working on the ranch. She has such a big heart. Enter Lt. Cody Steves. He loves being a lawman and knows that when he goes out on a mission that he may not return. I loved these two characters. Their budding romance is sweet and innocent. Juliana was willing to push aside her day dreams to do what is expected of her from her family. Cody while he loves being a Texas Ranger uncovers a plan for someone to overtake the Duke Ranch. While you get romance with this book - you will also get some mystery sprinkled in. I loved how the two main characters will work together - at romance and at uncovering what is going on.
I am sad to see this series end. I have enjoyed the two books that I have read in it. I received a copy of this book from the Celebrate Lit blogging program - all thoughts are my own.
Lassoed by the Lawman is book three in a series and the final book. I’ve read the other books in the series and do encourage you to read them in order. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
I loved this book. It moves quickly. This book definitely has a fast-moving plot and there are a few gunfights. Juliana has a duty and she’s ready to do it even if it’s not her dream. But what happens when true love finds her? And then when the bad guys start to come?
Wonderful read. The whole series is actually just wonderful but I think this was my favorite of the three books. The characters really jumped out of the book and I felt like I was visiting the ranch and having a fun but exciting day there.
I highly recommend you read this book but really the whole series because you don’t want to miss out on any of this great series.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
If you enjoy western inspirational romances with a dollop of danger and intrigue, you will find yourself rapidly turning pages in this latest release by Renae Brumbaugh Green. Stories with Texas Rangers have often captured my attention and this one did as well. A cattle rustling problem prompted ranch owner Oscar Duke to enlist the help of Texas Ranger Cody Steves. As the book progressed I found it increasingly hard to put down as the mystery and danger escalated. I loved the variety of Bible verses included by the author at the beginning of each chapter which set the tone for the words to follow. While definitely a work of Christian historical romance with themes of trust and forgiveness, the inspirational message was not preachy and was woven seamlessly throughout the story. Although this is book #3 in a series, it can certainly be read as a standalone novel. Well done!
I received a free copy of this book through Celebrate Lit in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are mine alone.
Lassoed by the Lawman, by Renae Brumbaugh Green, is book three in The Texas Ranger series. This story also makes a nice stand alone story but it does reference characters from previous books, so it is best to read the series in order. This book is about Ranger Lt. Cody Steves who is called into to help stop the rustling of cattle as the Duke Ranch and meets up with the daughter, Juliana, on the way. This is a great story to get lost in. It is quick and easy to read with good characters and nicely placed humor. In the story we see the struggle Juliana goes through as she agrees to marry who her parents want rather than go with her heart. It is sad to realize that this has happened way to often. I enjoyed the parts in the story that showed Juliana has talent as a dressmaker and dreams of making it more than a hobby. I especially appreciated the faith and strength Cody has to stand firm to what is true and do what it takes to protect those he is hired to. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Juliana Duke stumbles upon Cody Stevens, Texas Ranger, in quite a predicament. She likes the way she is treated as a woman, not an heiress. She receives mixed messages from Cody once he meets her father. She wonders if her duty to marry Miguel is where she needs to focus her attention on, not the handsome Ranger.
Both Cody and Juliana were strong characters in this book. I liked how you saw both viewpoints throughout the book as well as how they relied on their faith to get through obstacles. Although the plot seemed like it would be predictable, the author takes the reader on unexpected turns. Right from the beginning, I had a hard time putting it down to see how the pieces would fit together.
Although this book is part of a series, it can quite easily be read as a standalone. The series is based on Texas Rangers and the work they were called to. I love to see this perspective of history in the pages of fiction.
I would really recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.
Although this is part of a series, each one can be read as a standalone. I fell in love with this book from the first few pages and never looked back! Who wouldn't love a singing Texas Ranger who loves to play his guitar while riding his horse and then falls into a cactus patch - ouch! Cody Steves was a completely lovable character but was a very competent Texas Range also. He's sent to find out who's rustling cattle on a large ranch. The owner has a daughter, Julianna, who is my kind of gal - independent, sassy and her own woman! I loved both characters! There is danger, action and questions of trust in this story. Will Julianna's father believe Cody? Will he believe Julianna? Who is a loyal friend and who is an enemy? I wish this book were made into a movie! It would be great!
Lassoed by the Lawman is book three in The Texas Ranger series with faith, danger and romance all rolled into one terrific story by Renae Brumbaugh Green. This is a series that keeps getting better. Texas Ranger Cody Steves is reluctant to fall for the rancher’s daughter Juliana Duke since his life is so precarious. Being a lawman comes with risks that could leave a family without a husband and a father. Juliana Duke has dreams of her own but finds the lawman intriguing.
The Duke Ranch comes under fire which would include danger to Juliana. Sometimes it takes a situation like this for a man to see what he really wants in life. God does work in mysterious ways. A lovely romantic novel that includes suspense and needed faith in God.
The publisher Wild Hearts Books provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.
Lassoed by the Lawman is the third installment from Renae Brumbaugh Green’s series, The Texas Ranger. Even though it is part of a series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. Like the previous two books, this one is a great read. It is probably my favorite of the three. I loved getting to know Juliana. I adored this character. It was wonderful watching her grow throughout the story. Especially when she meets Cody. I was entertained with those two from the start and had no problem reading their story in one sitting. I just had to know how it would all end.
Lassoed by the Lawman will be getting a well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance.
I received a copy of Lassoed by the Lawman from the publisher. This review one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
Juliana Dukes, only daughter, and heiress to her father’s ranch in Texas, encounters Cody Steves, a Texas Ranger contacted by her father. Cody arrives to determine why the Dukes’ cows are disappearing. Juliana’s parents expect her to marry the daughter of their foreman. However, they truly desire for her to marry someone he loves.
The mystery and danger involved in determining the thieves prove to be dangerous and intriguing. Truly, this Christian Historical novel grabbed my attention, and I had to read it in one sitting. The depth of the characters and the descriptions of the scenery drew me into the plot. I also found Juliana’s interests and Cody’s to be interesting – especially their love of singing and music. So check out this book for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
I really, really liked this book. The author just had a wonderful writing style that made me want to keep reading on and on. It is in a series, but I read it wonderfully as a stand alone. I do now want to read the previous books just because this one was so so good.
I really liked Juliana. She knew she had a duty but also that she is her own person. She is such a lady, but can do work as well. Cody was great. I think I may have fallen in love with him a bit! There was romance, suspense, mystery, and oh did I mention romance? It was just a great story that I loved.
5/5
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
Renae has written another engaging and interesting read. I loved the romance between Cody and Juliana. And that first kiss is unexpected and I loved it.
Throughout the book I am wondering what will shift to make these two realize they can make it work and how will that happen. There was also the questions Renae planted in the readers mind whether Miguel even wanted to marry Juliana or there was someone else in his life that he really loved and both Juliana and Miguel were only marrying each other out of duty.
If you enjoy western type historical romances I am sure you will like this read.
A copy of this book was given to me the Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
"Lassoed by the Lawman" by Renae Brumbaugh Greenis book 3 in the series. But each book is a standalone. This book has danger and is a story about greed. The characters has to learn who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. It is also a story about love at first glance! It truly is a great story. I received a contemporary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these are my own opinions
This is the second book from this author that I have read, and found that she writes clearly and descriptively so that I can see the story unfold before my eyes. The characters have depth, the storyline is interesting, there is suspense, love develops and there is a HEA. Couldn’t put it down!
This is the third book in the series, but you don’t have to have read the others before reading Lassoed by the Lawman. It is a standalone story. I loved this book. It was a sweet western romance. I’ve always loved stories about Texas Rangers. I think it is a fascinating part of American history. We have nothing like that at all here in Australia. I love the commitment to justice. Although this is partly a insta-love story, it wasn’t cringey or awkward. I would actually say that it was more insta-attraction than insta-love. This was a great story that I recommend for anyone who loves Western historical romances. I will definitely be going back and reading the rest of the series by Renae Brumbaugh Green.
This book is a delicious western romance with unbelievable characters. I was immediately drawn into the story and tried my best to help them solve the mysteries.
As the title suggests, it is. However, it has enough action and tension to keep you interested. I like how the doctor takes a role in what is happening. A good and happy ending. Worth the read.
Such a delightful story! Intrigue, action, romance, cowboys, horses, and the beach! What more is needed? Oh and beautiful faith and examples of trusting God through very difficult days. Loved it!
