Oh my gosh. This is the best fanfic I have ever read, and more people need to know about it.
Heatwaves is a fanfic about the two Minecraft YouTubers Dream and GeorgeNotFound. The story is a fanfic about how they realized their feelings for each other, and as a fan of the ship DreamNotFound, this is by far the most well-written story I have ever read when it was created by a fellow fan. To be honest, I’m surprised that it isn’t a professional author that wrote this.
I will admit, I was a little bit sad at the ending, but this story is still incredible, and I can’t wait to read Helium.
(Also, Heatwaves is inspired by the song from Glass Animals that has the same name as the fanfic, so go check that song out. You won’t regret it.)

This book had no right to be so good. The prose, pacing, and development were all brilliant, from an objective standpoint.

I have never seen a single DSMP video, I know absolutely nothing about the people this is based on. I just saw people talking about it so much I decided to read it because why not. I don't like or condone the shipping of real people, but I believe the creators have stated they are okay with works being made about them, and it already exists, so I decided to read it. I think it is a really amazing piece of writing, and if you changed some of the things in the fic it could very well be a published book. I think not knowing anything about the subjects of thsi fic made it more pleasant, because the only reference I had for who they were was within the text, and I still found it cohesive. I'm not going to recommend it because it is about real people, but Kudos to the author of this. They really put so much effort into it and I hope they write and publish books in the future.

amazing book and definitely a good book to start reading. obviously it’s more aimed to the people who know of the dream team’s dynamic but i have seen people read it because of the amazing writing. definitely recommend! the sequel ‘helium’ is really good to.

Absolutely fantastic. I don’t even have words for Heat Waves. It changed my life. I have been obsessed with the song for the past 6 months now because of this book. It’s what got me really into the dream smp.

I relate to Dream on another level. They’re both so well-written and fantastic.

Dakota did a fantastic job with this fic. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.

I sunk so much time into this mf thing, I feel it deserves to be counted. bangers like "I burn you?" "you melt me" can be equated to shakespeare and dickens. I laughed. I cried. I got more emotionally invested in two minecraft youtubers than in anything else. loved it would recommend.

probably my biggest red flag is the fact that i still read this. it’s def not as good as the original hype made it out to be but it’s still a BANGER. so many lines in this go crazy hard and not even the ones everyone else talks about.

Dream sits up immediately. Fuck. Did he say that out loud? Fuck.” “

a lot of people really hate the breakup scenes in the final chapters and i honestly think they are a bit slow but at the same time if you think it’s unexpected you are not reading this HARD ENOUGH. trust me trust me i am a scholar of this stupid internet cesspit and there’s so much lead up to it. dream is so depressed and torn from his own reality that the only human connection he can find is online and that’s WHY he’s so obsessed with george.

“ That’s why it’s not reaching, when you do shit like this. It’s more like...grabbing. Or taking.”

he has a view of george where he needs to be saved or protected in some way, or that george is just another thing to earn to prove himself- in the same way that the sleep-deprived teenager writing this most likely thought of live at the time. i’ve been very boy-crazy in the past and especially when you’re thirteen or fourteen having a crush on someone feels like you need to ‘win’ them somehow, and instead of reaching towards a relationship all you’re doing is running to an invisible finish line. am i prepared to announce that i relate deeply to a fictional version of a twitch streamer who was popular four years ago? no. but THE PARALLELS THE PARALLELS

all in all, this review is all over the place and makes no sense. if you were in the mcyt fandom in 2020 i hope that therapy’s working out great for you. but every summer i come back to this fic and i just melt. it formed me it shaped me and it made me who i am and therefore i simply cannot hate it. call me cringe call me whatever i am staying by this fic’s side

I really can't put words on how much i love this fanfiction. Without even being part of the fanbase, i devoured it in three days right after discovering it on tiktok last year. And here i am now reading it a second time, knowing that June is near. It is incredibly well written, it is just flawless. The descriptions, dialogues, the pacing and the whole mood it puts us in are just *chef's kiss*
I can say that i discovered Dream and Georges through this fanfic, i also got into the Glass animals hype thanks to it.
I have been a heavy reader for almost ten years now and i absolutely confirm that Heat Waves is on my top 5, all pieces of writing included. It is lowkey better than 80% of the actual edited books nowdays.
My thanks to the author, that's some real talent they got there.

This shocked me. I remember reading it as a gag because I don't know anything about these Youtubers, but I am actually blown away by the writing. I don't get the nuances but I am surprised this writer isn't published, the pacing and imagery makes this entire piece feel like a held breath. Somehow nothing is happening and everything is happening at once. Some scenes really felt like they were stolen from my life. There were some cringey parts I won't overlook but the writing is beautiful, beautiful enough to make me forget this is a fanfiction of grown men playing Minecraft.
