Their interstellar romance launched a starship... After fleeing the malevolent alien race that wiped out her homeworld, all Libra Hawke wants is a quiet life of obscurity. No danger. No drama. Definitely no surprises. But then the universe crashes Brendan Scott into her — literally — and knocks her world off its axis. He's human. She's not. She has no business being anywhere near him, not if she wants to conceal her nebula of secrets. But tell that to her traitorous heart. His curiosity about her past pokes holes in her cover story big enough to fly a starship through, while logic takes a spacewalk every time they touch. Their intense connection indicates he might be her destined mate… if he can accept her alien nature. And her power.
Delve into the sexy, otherworldly romance that gave birth to captain Aurora Hawke and the Starhawke Universe.

Audrey Sharpe grew up believing in the Force and dreaming of becoming captain of the Enterprise. She’s still working out the logistics of moving objects with her mind, but writing science fiction provides a pretty good alternative. When she’s not off exploring the galaxy with Aurora and her crew, she lives in the Sonoran Desert, where she has an excellent view of the stars. DNF at the halfway mark. This is very sci-fi lite. The FMC was from a different planet, but that was the only part of this that was science fiction. Otherwise it was just a quiet, contemporary romance with a little bit of a paranormal element. It didn't hold my interest enough for me to continue.
Brendan and Libra are important characters in the Starhawke series. They show up with some back story but nothing that tell how they met. Guardian Mate tells that story. It is part series and part fun. This part of their story ends with the Mating Ceremony. Knowing what I know now I need to go back and re-visit their actions in the main line books. Great addition to the series. Waiting for the next book so Audrey you need to keep writing.
2.5 stars. This was ok. Given the short length, I was hoping that the pages wouldn’t be filled with a sci-fi reason fueled instalove and attraction. Ah well. However, I’m assuming this did provide some important background information for the rest of the series. I’m not sure I’ll continue on as I’m not interested in numerous explicit scenes between the MCs.
I’d definitely classify this as fun and easy, though. Light sci-fi romance escapism.
I am glad I started with Guardian Mate, as it is the bases for the “A Starhawke Sci-Fi Romance” series. A fast-paced story of a man who crashes in a forest and is rescued by a beautiful woman and her family. Very pleasant encounters happen with these people, who he doesn’t know are from another world. He has much to learn about the woman with whom he has so quickly connected.
It's rare that a series starter (in this case, a prequel) isn't a diabolical cliffhanger (thanks to the author for that!), but is actually good enough to make me want to keep reading. Theres obviously much more we have to learn about the Suuhl, the bastards who are hunting them, and the future hinted at here, and I'm all in.
Congratulations to Audrey Sharpe for this amazing story. It’s hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides a top rated plot, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the series “Starhawke Rising”.
Great story with fantastic character development and world building. A romantic story at its heart with a bit of sci-fi added to the mix. Libra and Brandon meet in a crash and that just gets the story started. Very difficult to put down at night to get some sleep. Gave in tonight because I had to finish. Definitely worth reading!
I expected something different, not just a courtship ritual between two beings with "secrets" being revealed and accepted, but not really a lot of explanation or action, suspense, plot. I understand this is a prequel to another series? Maybe that explains it.
The worldbuilding is excellent, the characters are fantastic and loveable, and the story is wonderful. Sometimes, you just need to read a good love story.
Explicitly well-done sex and romance with the magic well integrated. The world building is off to a good start In this prequel. Purchased this item on April 4, 2022, from Amazon for free.
I Enjoy reading science fiction It doesn't hurt if there is some romance involved. This is the 1st book that I've read by this author And I did thoroughly enjoy it
This is a prequel to the author’s Starhawke series and I wish I had seen and read it before I read the entire series. It answered questions which I had and would have been a great book to start with. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and with the backstory it provided, I was able to see certain characters in a different light. I recommend the Starhawke series, however do yourself a favour and start with this book. I gave it 5 stars.
