Running The Gauntlet

Rate this book
Buried weapons of magic. A killer only they can stand against. Or does removing them unleash something worse? Colin and his family guarded and managed the town’s Heritage House for years… until a thief with wall-shattering claws came tearing it apart in search of more power. Someone has to stop him. Colin hunts for the truth behind that history, and the key to wielding a strange, shapeshifting gauntlet—against an enemy that appears without warning to kill anyone in the way of his power. Someone has to stop him. But who is he saving from who? The sister whose disappearance still haunts him… the detective he’s drawn to, and not only because she knows the case all too well… his old friends who have their own ties to the magic… or the truth behind the whole town? Which one is the real threat, and who is the next target? Someone has to stop him. And Colin has to try – whatever the cost may be. Running the Gauntlet is the first book of an exciting new urban fantasy series. If you like thrilling action, back-alley mystery, and Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files, this is the book to grab.

Ken Hughes lives in Los Angeles and has worked as a technical writer for missions to Mars and the governing body of the Internet (ICANN). He writes paranormal thrillers and urban fantasy, and has been known to argue over the difference between the two in his blog, www.KenHughesAuthor.com.

His novel Shadowed was nominated for a Global Ebook Award. The series he’s launching with the upcoming The High Road is meant to prove one thing: how writing a thrilling cliff-hanger for heroes who can fly takes writing to a whole new level. (Don’t get him started on puns.)

Lots of action!

This is an action packed urban fantasy that hits the ground running and doesn't stop! I found the characters interesting, and I liked the story. Colin is in charge of security at a historic mansion. Along with Bea, a cop, he tries to unravel the mysteries of not only a murder, but of a strange, mysterious gauntlet that can change shape and turn into a deadly weapon. He also faces the question of what exactly happened to his missing sister. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes action and mystery, with a dash of fantasy.
