A woman whose life is in danger, the bodyguard sworn to protect her, and a race against time to get her to safety. Medical student Lexi Maheras has one goal—get matched to a top hospital so she can complete her residency. When her father calls, telling her he’s arranged for her to marry a man she barely knows, Lexi is positive something is wrong. In an effort to give herself some time to figure out what’s going on, she decides the only way to slow things down is to arrange her own marriage.
Ex-Army Ranger Jake Maverick promised Basil Maheras that he’d keep Lexi safe at all costs—he just never thought the cost would include his bachelor status. But when Lexi tells him her father is forcing her to marry the man he was hired to protect her from in the first place, he feels the only way to keep her safe is to marry her in an attempt to get her father from Greece to the states so he can figure out what’s going on.
When their secret is leaked, and Lexi’s life is put in danger, they have no choice but to run. Now, they’re stuck together, and the more they learn about each other, the less pretend their marriage feels.
I knew from the outset that this book would be a clean, contemporary romance with potential for suspense, but I did not expect to find a nail-biter of a tale filled with plot twists and turns that kept me glued to my iPad from beginning to end. Even given the fact that this is a work of fiction, some portions significantly lacked believability, i.e., Zikas’ ability to continue intercepting Lexi and Jake as they fled northern California bound for Houston using back roads while traveling mostly at night in three different vehicles. Nevertheless, this was a great story, and I recommend it to those of my friends who enjoy a bit of suspense with their romance.
I liked the storyline of this book. I liked Jake and Lexi. Maybe it aS just me but the writing of this book seemed a bit more choppy and confusing than the previous two books. Wish things had been a bit more clear. Overall I liked the storyline, there were some cute parts and I liked the adventure too. Overall up enjoyed this book.
This was a good read, with some suspense, a fake marriage, and some very real feelings thrown into the mix. Lexi has just finished her clinicals to be a surgeon. One of her bodyguards, Jake, has a crush on her, but knows nothing can come of it. She’s too good for him. But when her father comes back from Greece and demands she marry a man she doesn’t love, she asks her bodyguard to marry her so that isn’t a possibility. But little does she know the other man is not to be put off by a marriage. He is determined to marry her, even if he has to eliminate everyone who stands in his way, including her ‘husband.’ It’s an intense read, with some humor, muscles, action, and sweet romance thrown in along the way to keep the journey progressing nicely. An easy, solid read with likable characters you keep cheering for.
I would have given it a higher rating, but the bad guy's super tracking abilities were not believable. The hired goons were always circling, but there was no explanation as to what their end goal was. And there were quite a few typos. It was fun to see the beginnings of the Rangers series. Jake was an amazing character. Clean.
This book was good for the first part when it was about them running but then the romance just took over. I really didn’t want to finish it it was driving me crazy. By the last chapter it just left a bitter taste in my mouth. I didn’t love the wrap up with her dad. Lame.
This was weird. The love story didn’t make any sense to me and the story was boring. Dialogues were repetitive and the characters became annoying at some point.
I truly enjoyed reading this book! I found it to be an exciting, touching & suspenseful story. Lexi just graduated medical school. Ready to take the next step towards becoming a doctor. Along with all her bodyguards. Lexi's life has been threatened by a very evil & cruel man. Now she is being forced to marry said man. Lexi will never agree to this. She decides she needs to get married. Jake, one of her bodyguard's, is who first came to mind. When Lexi explains everything, Jake agrees. He has feelings for Lexi, but it's his job to protect her with his life. Once the evil man learns of their marriage, everything changed. Jake's gut knew what was coming next & prepared ahead. It was time to do what he promised, & protect Lexi. Hold on! Your in for a wild ride! This story is filled with drama & intrigue. It pulled me in, & kept me reading, wanting to find out what happens next. A PAGE-TURNER!!!
Jake has been Lexi’s bodyguard for six months to protect her from an evil man who wants her family’s land, which has oil underneath it. When Lexi gets a call from her father demanding she marry the goon she has to come up with a plan, quickly. So, she tells Jake that she has a proposition for him: marry her so Faustus can’t.
Jake finally agrees and within a week the two are married. However, things don’t run smoothly and Jake and Lexi find themselves on the run.
Somewhere between being shot, beat up, and almost killed, Jake finds himself falling in love, all the while trying to keep Lexi safe. But he feels unworthy of her, as she is about to start her residency to become a doctor.
Wow, this was a hard book to put down. I kept saying I would read just more chapter and then I had to read the next one. I wish I could have frozen time to just read it all in one sitting. Alas, time doesn't stand still and I did have to put it down now and again. This book had me going through all the emotions; laughing, crying, sighing and definitely anger and suspense. Lexi and Jake are pushed together in a unique way, but they are great together. I loved the romance and suspense in this book.
The cover absolutely does not do this story justice. Hidden inside is an absolute gem. This story is full of action, suspense, and steamy but clean romance. Had I not been familiar with the author I would have passed it up without giving it a second thought, which would have been a big mistake. This is a full story, very complete. It reminds me of some of the Harlequin clean suspense books, which are much more expensive to buy but of the same caliber. I’d say this is her best work yet. I highly recommend it.
This book was more intense than I expected. I love reading works by authors who continue to improve their craft. Bree Livingston is one such author. Every book I've read by her as been worth the time and this book is no exception. Both main characters were dynamic and interesting. The plot was only predictable at the start with the quick marriage for safety, which we all knew was coming since that's the main premise of the book. Overall, a dramatic and romantic book that I will be reading again.
Okay, I don't know what it is about these books and this series. Each sucks me in and I'm on the journey with each of the characters. The plot lines are believable and hold my attention. This is greek almost princess studying in America to be a doctor. Her father tells her she's marrying a man that her father has given her bodyguards to protect her from. She asks the one available bodyguard to marry her and protect her. Unknown to her he has had a crush on her. Along their journey, she falls for him. IT's a match made in Greek heaven if they can stay alive long enough to tell each other.
Jake wants to redo the past. Lexi wants to do the future. Faustus claims to want Lexi, but what he really wants is the land the Maharas family has owned for centuries. The Maharas family grows olives on it. Faustus wants to uproot the olives and drill for oil. He doesn't care who he has to kill. After his own father, what do Lexi and her father matter to him? But Lexi and even her father marry a lot to Jake. And you don't mess around with something that belongs to Jake. Recommended for readers of good romantic suspense.
4 stars I purchased a copy of The Bodyguard's Fake Marriage: A Sweet Fake Marriage Romance Book Three by Bree Livingston and this review was given freely. Suspenseful and action packed with a rocky romance, a couple in hiding, and a happy ending. Greek heiress and graduate of Stanford's medical program, Lexi involves her American bodyguard and former Army Ranger Jake in a temporary marriage to avoid a forced arranged marriage by her father to the corrupt Greek oil mogul who is trying to steal their land. Contains a fair amount of violence.
Lexi is finished her clinical trials and looks forward to her residency as a doctor. Her dad fears for her safety so he has hired bodyguards for her. Her dad calls to tell her he has arranged a marriage for her. She feels trapped and asks her bodyguard Jake to become her fake husband. Jake takes his job seriously and agrees to marry her to keep her safe. As they learn of the danger they are in, Jake must create ways to keep her safe. Their attraction to each other becomes real during the time when they are on the run to reach a safehouse for Lexi.
I almost didn't read this book. The saying "A picture says a thousand words"? The cover of this book kind d of turned me off. Especially after I read the description of the bodyguard. That said and out of the way. Enjoyed the book. Great story. Fast paced. Loved the characters.
This is a great read. The emotional rollercoaster the characters went through was heartwarming. It has action and suspense. The twist and turns had me on edge. It had lies, deceit, and a whole lot of love.
WOW. I was hooked from the start!! WHY the bodyguards? What was dad's fear about? Why did he want his daughter to marry that skunk? This book moves fast and will keep you reading 'til all hours of the night. I highly recommend this read. GO FOR IT!
Wow! I was hooked right from the first page . Just couldn't stop. It kept me on the edge of my chair, my heart thumping! Loved the action, the clean romance, the final victory ... Y'ay! Job well done, thanks Bree!
I love the suspense. I love the story and characters. This is the 3rd book by Bree Livingston I have read, and I just love them. She keeps the reader hooked, but I've found I don't have to worry about vulgarity, and I love that.
This is an amazing book. Sweet romance with some danger thrown in for good measure. I really enjoyed reading it. The author has such imagination. It makes her books that much more enjoyable!!!
What started as a job for Jake ends up to much more. His job is to protect Lexi but she hires him to marry her so she doesn't have to marry someone else. Can he do it, will he? Oh this story takes you on a wild ride.
Another great story from Bree Livingston. It's so nice to be able to concentrate on the characters and their relationship rather than the constant bed hopping in many of the contemporary romance offered up to the reader.
With lots of stories about bodyguards I was surprised that this one was unique. I loved the 2 characters. The trouble following her was a surprise. But she put up with the bodyguards anyway. A must read and you will love how it unfolds as much as I did.
This was my first book by Bree Livingston and I absolutely loved it!! Fake marriage is one of my favorite tropes and this did not disappoint! I also appreciated the suspense and action thrown into this romance!!
