Every Time a Bell Rings

Once upon a time, he was everything to her, except for one thing: her future

Christmas sparkles from every bough and window at the cozy Four Winds Ski Resort, where single mother Eden Kendall and her eight-year-old son are spending the holiday. A surprise marriage proposal from her boss’s son wasn’t on her Christmas list, but it’s the perfect excuse to get away and weigh her options. She never imagined her son’s ski instructor/Santa impersonator would be the gorgeous, charismatic dreamer she left behind years ago, the one who still owns a piece of her heart.

Cole Hagan has never stopped loving Eden and he’s spent the last eight years proving her wrong on every count about his potential. While he fights to save the resort that he helped to build by organizing a holiday concert, he decides it’s about time that Eden puts aside her list-making pragmatism so that she and her skeptical son can experience the true magic of Christmas.

Can this unlikely pair get a second chance at happily ever after?

Barbara Ankrum grew up in Upstate New York, training to be a ballerina, but secretly dreaming of being an actress. Her first fangirl crush on Haley Mills led her to practice her British accent on unsuspecting store clerks, and she dreamed of co-starring in the remake of THE MOONSPINNERS. Because she was also a compulsive reader, she discovered that the film was based on a book by the fabulous Mary Stewart, which led to Barbara's lifelong obsession with romantic fiction.

Since Haley Mills was, sadly, not in the market for a co-star, Barbara pursued a degree in English Literature from the University of Tennessee. And when that degree, predictably, led to unemployment, she pulled up her socks and moved to Hollywood where she built a career as a successful commercial actress while raising two amazing (now grown) children with her sweet husband.

Writing romance came naturally from all that reading and the down time between auditions. Once she sold her first book, she said farewell to Hollywood-Land and never looked back. In between writing novels, she got her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard and optioned a few screenplays. But her first love is, and always will be, romance.

Barbara's emotional, character driven, adventurous historicals (Wild Western Hearts series), her sexy, romantic suspense for Harlequin and her funny, heartwarming contemporaries for Tule Publishing, offer a little something for everyone. Twice nominated for Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA Award, and her contemporary romance, Holiday Hearts, was made into a Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Christmas movie! Today, she lives in Texas with her husband and a scruffy, adorable rescue dog.

Lovely, whimsical second chance romance with an angelic twist. I wouldn't actually call this book paranormal but there is a bit of spiritual influence. I enjoyed this book very much.

Eden left her hometown close to ten years ago. She not only left town, but the man who should have been her forever. Unfortunately, Eden wanted a financially secure future unlike her parents had. She worried that Cole was too much of a dreamer and left because of that, a financially secure future might not be in the cards. So, she left, made a lot of money in a job she liked but didn't love. In addition, Eden is raising her best friend's son. Because of that, Eden believes she made the right choice. Unfortunately, Eden will question her decisions once she runs into Cole while on a work-related vacation.

Cole is a business owner and financially secure, to Eden's surprise. Another surprise is the fact that while spending time with Cole, Eden realizes her feelings for Cole are just as strong. Could she have made a mistake by leaving?

I won't go into details about how Eden and Cole reconnect. This was a magical story and you should enjoy every minute of it as I did. I will add that there is some angst and a whole lot of Christmas influence.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

Talk about a perfect Hallmark movie. This book is set up in such a way I could actually see the holiday movie playing out in my brain the whole time. Not that any of that is a bad thing. I, for one, love Hallmark Christmas movies.

Cole and Eden definitely have a connection. Add to that the instant repertoire between Eden’s son, Quinn, and Cole and it’s a recipe for a beautifully sweet Christmas story. But I must say, it took me a bit to warm up to Eden. Which is usually the case for me when a character is very career and money oriented. Of course, she has her reasons, but that doesn’t mean I agree with her reasons.

While I found this story simple and pleasant, I am not looking at those words as detriments. It was an extremely enjoyable read for this time of year. The perfect story to sneak in chapters between holiday baking and wrapping gifts.

Can a not-so-perfect angel help this unlikely pair get a second chance at happily ever after?
This Eden Kendall and her eight-year-old son Quinn and Cole Hagan's story.
Juggling her phone against her ear in the elevator down to the Four Winds Resort lobby, Eden Kendall pulled her seven-year-old son’s bright green Minecraft scarf from her bag and wrapped it around his neck. Quinn squirmed at her unwanted fussing, consumed with the screen of his tablet and the game he’d been playing since they’d arrived in the High Sierras. And much too often, as a rule, before that. Alone in the elevator with her son, Eden jammed her finger repeatedly against the lobby button. As if that would make the thing go faster.
“No, we’re running behind. We just got here,” Eden said into the phone, already feeling out of breath. “The airport was a nightmare. Traffic was crazy coming up the mountain. I guess everyone is heading to the snow for Christmas. What little snow there is.” She whispered to her son to put on his mittens. If he heard he
Nicole Jessup, her best friend and cohort at Wildwood Acquisitions, personal assistant to Wildwood’s president and CEO, John Russell, answered, “So . . . I’ll tell Monica to tell Wesley you’re right on schedule?”
As he pulled off the beard and hat, staring at her like he’d just seen a ghost, he looked just how she felt. “Eden?”
He said her name as one might if she’d accidentally walked into the wrong room or got caught snagging a bagel from the meeting tray early, or . . . or even the way Wesley had the other night after he’d proposed.

I received this arc in exchange for an honest review. I loved this story. It was so romantic. I liked the main characters, Cole and Eden a lot. It was clear they belonged together. This story starts with angels or angels in training Jo and Marguerite looking down on loved ones. Jo and her husband passed away leaving their only child, Quinn to be cared for by her best friend, Eden. Eden works for Westgate properties, a company that we learn, uses underhanded tactics to try to buy out struggling properties. She has just been proposed to by the owner’s son and she is thinking over her options. She is realizing that Quinn doesn’t like this guy, Wesley, and he doesn’t really want to be a dad. Eden and Quinn were sent on a work vacation by her boss to scope out a ski resort that is struggling. Quinn found a connection with Cole and she could tell how happy he was now at the resort.

Once there, at Four Winds Resort, Quinn goes to a ski lesson. It turns out it’s taught by the guy that Eden left behind 8 years earlier, Cole. She broke up with him because she didn’t think he had goals or ambitions that would be solid. Her parents were hippies and she didn’t have a stable life growing up. She didn’t want a repeat of this lifestyle. Eden isn’t aware that Cole is one of the owners and he doesn’t share this initially. He brings a bottle of wine and comes to her room to talk the first night as a way to catch up and see how they felt about each other now. Eden thinks he is just a ski instructor so she’s continuously surprised when other employees call him Mr. Hagan. The three of them spend time together with Cole showing them around the resort. Cole has an employee holiday party at his home that he invites Eden to. She realizes that he’s very wealthy and he admits to inventing a binding and making a lot of money so he could be an owner of the resort.

Marguerite was sent down to watch over Quinn, Eden and Cole. Jo is up above watching. She has some very interesting interactions with them. We learn Jo always wanted Cole and Eden to be together so they try to work a little magic throughout the story.

Cole has big plans to try to save the resort. He plans a big concert and tells Eden about it. Before she knew he owned the resort and was having problems she shared with Wesley about the concert and efforts being made to save the resort. Wesley shows up to try and strong arm Cole and his partner to sell the resort to his company. Cole refuses his offer.

Both Cole and Eden think about their past together and the love they gave up. She realizes things about Wesley and her job and Cole. Things come to a head and it’s not certain how things will end up. However, it is a terrific ending with lots of angst and romance. I am a big fan of Barbara’s books and this is another great one to add to her collection.

There are stories that stay with me long after the final page is turned. I’m sure you have those as well. There is never any logical reason why one does and another doesn’t – the emotions I felt while reading, the connection with the characters, the storytelling itself, I’m equally sure there are many reasons why this happens, I only know for certain that when it does then I’ve found a world that I will return to often, seasonally or simply when I need a lift up from the realities of my own world. For me, EVERY TIME A BELL RINGS was one of those special stories. Cole, Eden, and Quinn captured my heart, my emotions and my need to see them find a happy future together forever. And the touch of angels was simply the cherry on the top of a very delicious and heartfelt story.

To watch this couple find each other again after many years apart, to see the second chance for their happiness right in front of them if only they’d take the risk kept me glued to my Kindle. Of course, there are obstacles, there is a bad guy and he’s certainly won creep of the year award from me. One dreamer who took a dream and made it into something wonderful, and one logical, by the book, choose security every single time woman had their shot at happiness and then Eden walked away. Now by fate, they find each other again right when Eden could once again take so much away from Cole. That choice is hers to make – as is the answer to the happiness of two adults and one young boy. If she will take the risk… or if once he knows the truth, Cole is willing to trust her again.

If you have to pick just one or two Christmas Romances this season, then I truly hope you’ll pick EVERY TIME A BELL RINGS. It’s a lovely love story, it will lift up your heart and it will give you a smile every single time. I have every intention of this being a re-read every year, and I’ll end my Christmas reading for the 2019 season with another read of a story packed with an angel’s love and three humans, two dogs and a lot of good people involved. I loved this story and would highly recommend it to any reader who enjoys the magic of Christmas. This one needs to be a Hallmark Christmas movie, too.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Tule Publishing. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Meeting up with an old flame when she is desperately trying to come to a decision whether to marry someone else, throws Eden into a quandary. Cole is everything he was when they were students together. However, Eden discovers that he has matured and become a responsible and respected person in his own right. Teaching Eden's son on the ski slopes surprises Cole and the memory of her parting words puncture his heart once again. Whilst he would love to explore an adult relationship with Eden, he has more important things to worry about and as much as he enjoys Eden and Quinn, his employees are depending on him to save their jobs. Discovering that Eden is part of the reason his resort is in difficulties, Cole feels betrayed but a quirky lady and her dog keeps crossing his path, forcing him to rethink his assumptions. I love Cole's character and his gentle humour. Eden is like so many women, trying to do her best for her child and wading through decision making. Discovering that she is being manipulated makes things easier and worse at the same time, but she finally gets the courage to steer her own course. The angel is this book adds another element in a romantic Christmas story. The novel is clean, well written and has humour. Most plots with children and dogs warm the heart and this is no exception. Every Time a Bell Rings by Barbara Ankrum is a second chance romance, my favorite kind of story. Single mother, Eden and young son go on a working Christmas vacation to a ski resort. I was so glad that this was not a secret baby story though the story did not reveal that at first. It was a bit of mystery near the beginning. The big secret though is Eden’s work or maybe it is who Marguerite’s Monopoly partner. Loved the clues given on the last mysterious Monopoly player.
Cole is a wonderful character who needed time to grown into the man he is today. Eden is hung up on wanting a stable successful life which really sucked all the fun and joy out of her life. A change is needed. The issue of business ethics or the lack of them becomes a critical part of this story. There is no doubt as to who is the bad guy. Even though I knew he wouldn’t get away with it, I still wanted to be there when he was stopped. A feel good Christmas romance with a hint of It’s a Wonderful Life.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Do you believe in Magic.

Jo and Aaron have been killed in a car accident and they had no other family to take care of their little boy. Jo had made a provision in her will that her best friend Eden would take care of little Quinn as if her were hers if something happened to Jo, never expecting to have to raise him. Now she is raising him on her own and feels so out of place.

She works for a large organization that takes over failing or companies that are in trouble of going under and will buy them out. Eden was sent to a resort in the mountains and she enrolls Quinn into ski lessons. She already knows how to ski but she hasn't been skiing in over 8 years. As luck would have it Cole was Quinn's instructor and she left Cole 8 years ago because he was a dreamer and she was afraid that they would be hurting for money if they stayed together.

A really cute book that makes you realize that we all have plans for our own lives and sometimes we let the best things in our lives go because we are striving for bigger and better things. A must read for the holidays.

This is a super sweet romance that is perfect for the festive season. Jo and and Marguerite are angels in training and are keeping an eye out on their loved ones. Jo and her husband where killed in a car accident and now her best friend Edan Kendall is caring for her son Quinn. She has brought him to Four Winds Ski Resort for a Christmas break it is also a time for Edan to sort out what she wants as her bosses son has just proposed to her. Years before she left the only man she had ever loved Cole Hagan as she felt he didn't have any potential. The thing is that gave him the spark he needed and he has worked to prove her wrong ever since. When they reconnect at the Four Winds he will do whatever he needs to reconnect with Edan and hopefully at the same time save the resort that he helped to build. Meanwhile her boss and his son try to strong ram Cole and his partner to sell. Will they finally end up together You will have to read to see if a little help from the angels above will finally get these two together.

A sweet romantic second chance romance with a little Christmas magic. Eden and her son are staying at a resort for the holidays. She was not expecting a marriage proposal from her boss's son nor was she expecting to see someone she loved years prior working at the resort. Cole never stopped loving or forgot Eden. He spend the last years trying to prove her wrong on her thoughts of him. He goes out of his way to get her to relax and enjoy the true magic of Christmas with her son and him. Plus with an angel on your side he's sure not to fail. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing.

Eden is a single mom raising her best friend's son. She is the kind of woman who lives her life with lists and reasons for everything. She has a successful career but she has not done well in the relationship department. Now she is on a working vacation with her son right before the holidays. She crosses paths with the man she loved and walked away from eight years ago. She was so sure that he would not amount to anything but his dreams. Now they are both older and scarred by life. Could this be her one chance for true happiness? Can Cole forgive her and let them start over? Sometimes having an angel watching over you can be a life changing thing. Great read.

As a fan of It’s a Wonderful Life, I couldn’t help but get sucked into this story. This was a modern day second chance romance with this old time Christmas magical twist. I could almost fee the snowflakes on my cheek, warm up to a toasty fire and taste the hot chocolate alongside the characters. The history between Eden,& Cole brings that touch of modern day realism to this classic story. Beware of angelic Marguerite - she made me smile with the monopoly pieces as bread crumb clues. A clean heartwarming story that restores ones faith in a happily ever after during the holidays. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. A great festive read.

Eden and Cole meet again for the first time in 8 years. She left him because she had a plan, but that plan all changed when Quinn came in to her life. Now she has more to consider than just herself, even though seeing Cole again makes her realise she made a mistake leaving him.

I liked how it is told from different points of view, and also the mysterious woman who is trying to help them find their way back to each other.

A heart warming sweet second chance romance between Eden and Cole. Eden and Cole were an item eight years ago but Eden wanted more in life that what her parents had and she was afraid if she stayed with Cole, it would be. Neither Cole or Eden found their true happiness until meeting up again at the ski lodge. With a little Christmas magic, dogs and a little boy they are sure to find their HEA.

Loved this book, brought me right in and did not let go until the end. Great characters, including Eden's son Quinn. This is the perfect Christmas romance that I highly recommend.

I really enjoyed reading this book, loved the characters and their storylines especially the angels watching above .Eden and Cole haven't seen each other in 8 years that was until she laid eyes on him coming down the hill 🏂 wearing a Santa's hat and beard teaching kids how to ski , she figured he never grew up and became responsible ,little does she know he runs and part owner of the resort she's vacationing with her son Quinn.I honestly didn't want this one to end.

This is a second chance romance. Honestly what better time to be given a second chance then at Christmas time. I loved the characters and the story line was sweet and romantic. From the moment I picked up this book I was drawn into the story and the lives of the characters. From their very first scene I knew that Eden and Cole belong together. They just needed a little Christmas magic to make it happen. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book starts off without explanation. It made me feel like I was dropped into a different life and was told to keep up. Well as I ran I realized it was angels. Of course it was. That is the theme of the series.

So the angels get to work to help little Quinn and his adoptive mom Eden. Because Eden wants money security, she has them both tangled in a life that will never be good for Quinn. But his angels know what to do to fix it with some nudges.

Eden goes to a ski lodge with the purpose to find its weaknesses and help her company and her boss/ boyfriend aquire them. While there she runs into her lost love Cole.

Cole immediately bonds with Quinn. Something her boyfriend Wesley never did. A lot of Wesley never dids start becoming apparent.

Cole and Eden broke up because he wanted to follow his passion and his heart, and she wanted to always be financially ahead. No living pay check to pay check like her parents.

But seeing Cole brings back all those feelings. And as days go by they become closer and she sees that all of what she thought was right in life was a mirage.

The angels start showing up to keep them on the path. Showing up and then mysteriously disappearing. The Santa was my favorite. They also start leaving bread crumbs in the way of monopoly pieces which was Quinn's mother's favorite game.

This book is so cute and the help along the way makes it feel more like Christmas than it happening at Christmas.

Cute but predictable

I enjoyed the book and I finished it, but I wouldn't say I would read it again.
The beginning was very confusing. I didn't know where I was, who was speaking, and I had to go to the sinopsis to see if I was reading the right book. I guess the seting wasn't clear until very late in the book. I stopped reading it, but then I decided to give it another change, but it was a bit slow, and just after a couple of chapters it got a bit more interesting.
I liked the characters, they were cute and I guess Eden had a bit of a bigger growth, but a lot of it was told and not showed. It would have been nice to have a glimpse to the old Eden and Cole, and not just read about how much they have changed.
The book had good tension, but the ending I saw it coming very early on.
So it was good read, I enjoyed it, but I like to be surprised. For me it was too predictable, It's a light book to read, with cute moments, and some nice quotes.
The book is written in a limited omniscient POV, in past tense, and we get two perspectives, except at the beginning and the end where is more omniscient.

I found the prologue confusing and the story a little slow to get going. Thankfully, once it got rolling, it got much better. Eden has received an unwelcome marriage proposal from a man she obviously doesn’t love. Maybe this time at the resort her company is looking to acquire will help clear her head. Imagine her surprise when her son’s ski instructor turns out to be her ex (Cole). Cole has his own problems, with the resort struggling financially, but he doesn’t tell her he’s now part owner (I couldn’t help thinking she should know that, given her company’s interest in the business). The plot thickens (especially for Eden) even as Eden and Cole are falling for each other again (so sweetly!). There’s a light ‘magical’ element that was somewhat comical and wasn’t overdone. Add a boy and a dog; some twists I didn’t see coming; a seeming betrayal (and Cole’s refusal to hear Eden out)… and the HEA looked like it was out of reach. But… it’s Christmas!

A pleasant Christmas themed free read by a new author to me.
I loved how heartwarming this was and the guardian angel at the beginning was easy to guess. And yes, I agree with another reviewer, a perfect hallmark movie story.
I just couldn’t warm up to Eden. She was to regimented in her thinking, unbending in how she viewed things. I’m not sure why her parents easy going philosophy of life moulded her so much.
Would she have changed anyway due to Quinn being in her life, I would like to think so, but it would have taken maybe just to much time, if not for the unwanted marriage proposal.
I thought Cole needed to be more honest in the beginning about being part owner, but he had his reasons.

Cute fluff

Eden the female protagonist was a stereotypical Hallmark Christmas character. All business no time for The holidays. The death of her best friend and her husband left Eden with their small son. She works to an acquisition company looking to buy a ski resort. Her boyfriend that she broke up with 8 years ago is part owner but Even thinks Come is just a ski instructor. She broke up with him because he was a dreamer and not practical. Will the ski resort be saved? Will Come and Eden get back together. The answer require a little help from an angel.
