No price is too high to pay, to save a dying brother.
Nolan has finally bought his freedom from service to the Protection Bureau…at a terrible cost. He must now fight to save his brother’s life from the same disease that is slowly killing him.
His race for a cure sends him across the galaxy to Terra Omega, the world where he lost everything—and where his story and that of Project Icarus truly began. There, he and Warbeast Team come face to face with monstrous creatures of nightmare, inhuman soldiers, and technology far deadlier than anything previously encountered.
Can the elite unit defeat overwhelming odds and achieve an impossible high-stakes covert incursion, or will their efforts to save one cost all these brave solders their lives?
Don't miss The penultimate book in the epic Cerberus Series by Andy Peloquin.
I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist--words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I'm also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.
Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle--it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!
This back breaking, b*ll busting, agony fest had me firmly in its grip. The only way out was through. Ahh I thought, this is going to be a thrill seekers ride!
How can Nolan Garrett move forward with his life while his younger brother Jared fights a microscopic enemy in a battle for his very life? But equally, Nolan himself is fighting for his life from the exact same medical condition, brought about by the very same microscopic enemies which are killing Jared. So not only has Nolan to fight for his brothers life, but he must risk his own life in myriad ways, in order to hopefully find a cure or die trying, whilst struggling against the severe symptoms of his body as it slowly shuts down and begins to die. Despite this, Nolan has decided to not give up even if it costs him his own life. But my goodness, the odds are stacked very highly against him, or any of his colleagues making it throught to the end still alive.
Nothing he has ever faced before could ever have prepared him for something so unrelenting, so cold, or so merciless as this enemy. Even Taia, Nolan's implanted AI has struggling to keep him alive so that he could complete this perilous and terrifying mission. I felt genuine anxiety for him at many points during the story.
Nolan and his collegues are heading into a harsh territory on a planet called Terra Omega where there is a hidden Protection Bureau base. In that base, there is rumoured to be a serum that could stop the microscopic enemy from killing both Jared and Nolan, and eventually his colleagues who are travelling to help him acquire it. All they have to do is get it, right? Easy. Hah! Nothing in life is ever that easy, but this is tougher than most. It is highly dangerous to travel on Terra Omega because of an apex predator called Razorfangs that live in the marshy surface of the planet. This is by far the most terrifying creature that Nolan has ever encountured. A relentless creature, fast as lightning, with long claws and razor sharp fangs. Extremely territorial and excessively aggressive if disturbed, Razorfangs are the stuff of Nolan's most sweat inducing, mouth drying nightmares. When he was first injured in the armed forces, he was injured on Terra Omega. He still has flashbacks to the deaths of two of his team and the horror of the Razorfangs as they attacked his group again and again.
There were times when I laughed along with Nolan and the team, and there were times I literally cried for Nolan and his team. There were times when I sat and just absorbed the details as I watched the images roll along inside my head. The Razorfang fights; the fights with men with weapons never before seen; this was just like watching a video of the Xmen, and hearing the words "I'll be back!", then seeing Tom Cruise whizz by, guns blazing. Yeah, it was all of that and more. Much, much more.
What Nolan goes through in this book would make any merc put down his guns, hang up his hat and retire at last!
I genuinely love Andy Peloquin's different series of books. He has written some of my favourite books of all time. As an incredible author, he has such a graphic way of writing that simply takes your mind on a journey of discovery with each book of his that you read. His skills know no bounds and his characters get into your heart and mind in such a way that you think of them almost as friends.
It takes me a long time after finishing one of the author's books, to just let go of the characters and their plight; I feel so attached to them all. And of course, the author does so love to leave his books with cliffhanger endings. I always curse his name at the end when I read the last sentence and that's it...no more book! Still it's exciting when the next one arrives with a whole new story at my fingertips. I love the buzz I get from that.
Another excellent Cerberus book as we set up for the final book in the series. Our (anti)hero has built himself a family and commando group in equal parts with a polyamorous relationship as well as adopted daughter. The government will never leave them alone, though, and he has to bring down the intelligence agency above him once and for all. Except, maybe said agency has its own reasons for doing the evil they do.
Another enjoyable episode in the Cerberus story. I can’t help feeling this one might have been better as an extended final book. Of course, that may yet be the case, I’ll find out soon enough..
In this thrilling installment Cerberus creeps ever close to his goals, this in spite of the Universe’s best efforts to thwart him at every turn.
Were it not for his ever present AI Taia, his many and talented friends - along side generous helpings of luck - he’d have been a small smear on the windshield of said Universe a long time ago. As it is we get to sit back and be highly entertained by the ever more inventive ways our hero finds of getting himself into trouble.
Peloquin has done it again. You start reading and the next moment you are there with Nolan and Team Warbeast! If their hearts are beating fast yours starts to beat with theirs! You can practically feel Nolan’s pain and exhaustion, the rage and futility, the faint hope as Taia cracks another code or restores deleted surveillance footage. But, at the same time, you feel so frustrated because the horrible man leaves you hanging off the side of a cliff e-v-e-r-y time! Thank goodness he writes fast! I have to say I loved the book and all the action! At one point I envisioned this being made into a movie or a series. They’d definitely have to put restrictions on who could watch! Just imagine the blood and gore! I think it would be a huge success. The characters become so real to you and Nolan’s feelings for each of them resonate. If you haven’t read the other Cerberus books yet then I suggest that you get started. You’ll not regret it.
Warbeast Team: Nolan Garrett - ex-Silverguard, Sergeant and team Sniper, call sign Cerberus Master Sergeant Kane - ex-Silverguard, leader and tactician, call sign Wyvern Zahra Desai - ex-Silverguard, electronics and tech, call sign Phoenix Darren, married to Zahra - ex-Silverguard, Heavy weapons, call sign Troll Erasmus Gull- Heavy Gunner, call sign Ogre, deceased Natalya Alexandreya, Pilot, call sign Thunderbird, deceased
Taia - AI chip inserted in Nolan’s brain. Call sign Bast. Since then upgraded by herself many times and is now self aware and free of control by
Jadis - ex-bar owner and friend to Nolan for years. Now more than a friend Bex - ex-Silverguard, Explosives Expert, saved by Nolan, has been more than a friend to Nolan Roz - Bex’s daughter who Nolan helped Bex reunite with.
Nolan Garrett is out to do whatever he can to save his younger brother's life, Jared had been through too much to die now but he was fading fast. Nolan is desperate, he just would not give up on him now, after all they had been through to get out of the vault. So he sent Jared's body to a cryogenics lab with Bex, Roz and Jadis, whilst he and the Warbeast team set off on a very dangerous mission with no intel at all to Terra Omega. They were going to the cursed planet in search of a cure for their tungstanite poisoning, following a clue dropped by Dr Sladek. All of the team including Jared had been part of an experiment, called Project Icarus, and this was now killing them, some quicker than others. Terra Omega held the worst nightmare memories for Nolan and the rest of the team, this was the planet which had crippled Nolan turning him from a silverguard to a worthless drug addict. Now they were going to breach the Ion Stormwall and be totally cut off from the universe beyond. What did Terra Omega hold in store for Nolan this time, through it's harsh terrain with its vicious beasts and toxic river? The planet's nature was as ferocious as its inhabitants and brought his nightmares back to life upon landing and facing off with the razorfangs. However when they saw what the Bureau was planning it became more than just saving Jared's life. it could mean saving the Empire. They could not afford to die on Terra Omega with the Intel they had gathered! I was so engrossed in this book, I read it in one night and after the cliff hanger ending I cannot wait for the next book which might be the grand finale to what has been such an awesome and thrilling series!
One word to sum up Andy Peloquin's new book 'Covert Incursion' in the Cerberus Series is INTENSE. The series just went into over drive so Buckle up Buttercup. As Nolan sorts out his emotional dilemma with Bex and Jadis, Warbeast Team is on a do or die mission to save Nolan's Brother Jared and possible the whole team from the deadly MHC experimental serum. This mission looks all but impossible and I was gritting my teeth the whole time. One thing after another hits the team as they search for Serum V that will keep Jared alive. Nolan's time has run out but all he care about is helping his brother. Taia was able to tap into a computer and with so much information coming to light by the end of the book you see Nolan putting two and two together for the final confrontation in the upcoming last book of the series. I'm sure it's gona be a doozy. Mr. Peloquin is a master at world building and his characters have such depth that I now call them my friends they are so personable. Fast pace, out of this world action and drama and one hell-bent story line that made me gasp in shock and pain. What a Ride!! If you have been following the series you will Love! book 11 Covert Incursion.
What can I say about this book? Well, it has so much action that it is not suitable for the faint of heart. That Hollywood is taking too long to produce the entire series. Or better that it is HBO or Netflix who produce it! Nolan Garrett and the Warbeast Team embark on a dangerous mission to obtain the serum that can save the life of Jared, Nolan's brother. To achieve this, they must return to the planet where it all began and face dangers as diverse as an extremely wild and aggressive species of saurians to an army of modified super soldiers in the bunker where the evil and crazy Dr. Archer conducts his experiments. Out-of-this-world action, highly realistic alien landscapes, and fine soldier humor makes this book another hit on Andy Peloquin's list.
Deja vu. A exhilarating continuation of Cerberus’ story. Nolan and Warbeast Team return to Terra Omega where everything went majorly fubar last time and Nolan ended up in a wheelchair. But it’s their only hope to save Nolan’s brother and possibly all of Warbeast Team’s lives. Almost non-stop action and lots of new discoveries. The come-to-be-expected impossible situations to be overcome and well loved characters to cheer and weep for. Cannot wait to see how it all wraps up! Love this series!
Two brothers both dying at a rapid pace and true to form, the older risks his own future trying to save his younger sibling. Master Sergeant Kane takes the lead striving for maximum survival while leading Warbeast team . Emotions are laid bare on these pages while every member of the team is pushed beyond their imagination. Be ready to feel like a wreck after reading this book. Intense, gripping, heart wrenching, a true roller coaster death defying experience! These characters brought tears to my eyes. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
Andy another great adventure from you. I can't wait till book 12 to see what happens with this group. This has been a well thought out series and a wonderful page turner. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more of your work. This has been a captivating series and we'll worth the wait to read. Please keep up the good work thank you.
One of the best of the series. Much action, all the while pulling for the success of Nolan in gaining his freedom. So he succeeds in one area (his health) but now faces the challenge of finding and saving two very important people in his !I've. This is story that never fails to provide resolution but with a p!ot change that creates a brand new story.
Stopped long enough on book 11 to post a review these books are fantastic I love the story I love the twists and turns the different plot directions I love the characters I love the military aspects battle scenes the wars the battles the humour the grief highly recommend them. Try for yourself. They keep getting better.
This is the most exciting book yet in a tremendously exciting series. I know I have said this before, when reviewing earlier books in this series, but it's been true every time - just when you think things can't get any more desperate, Peloquin will always find a way to raise the stakes yet again. There was hardly a page in Covert Incursion when I was not on the edge of my seat.
I highly recommend this book. It’s an amazing story. Very well written, great characters, page turner. Love it. Excellent job. I received a copy and voluntary leaving a review.
This story moves with an incredible pace and keeps you page turning just when you think your coming to the end there's always s kicker to move to the next one.
Received as an arc Nolan is on a mission to find a cure for his brother Jared. His mission will take him back to Terra Omega where he lost the use of his legs. He and the Warbeast team go through many obstacles fighting for their lives. Another brilliant installment to the Cerberus series. Plenty of action, plenty uses of tactics. Great characters, great world building, great storyline.
Good god. I say this every time I read one of this authors books but they just keep on doing it, this one is as good if not better than the last. As other reviewers have said you feel as though you are there with them every step of the way, feeling their pain and suffering etc, etc. Is there going to be another one though. Highly recommended.
