A story of forbidden love - stepsiblings, 10 year age gap, declarations of love, found out 'in flagrante delicto', the son is banished to protect the 15 years old stepdaughter.
Fast forward 10 years and the black sheep (or rather the tawny gold lion) returns to claim his legacy.
So far, so good. The setting is intense and promising but the book fails to deliver. The h is cold, withdrawn and defensive. The H, supposedly smitten has time for everything else but to pursue the h. Waiting and waiting for things to happen, all you read is ... one more week passed ... few more weeks passed ... winter turns to spring ... spring turns to summer etc.
The h is busy being a good daughter and sister, and working her ass off at the office doing a never-ending whatever. The H is waiting for i don't know what - maybe autumn?
The seemingly promising ow never comes out of the shadows. Even the om (h’s fiancée) is totally uninterested in the h and only comes out of his coma in the ow’s presence.
As the H is still hedging his bets even after a moc, you wonder if this listless h is even worth it?
Not about this book but about the h/om and h/ow equations, generally speaking...
One of my biggest pet peeve in HPs is a h dumped by the om because he doesn’t find her interesting/attractive/sexy enough. I always think if this side/y character finds the h insipid and lacking, how can the H - the top of the pile alpha want her? I always find my interest waning in such books and hs.
And coming to the ow, even if she is portrayed as more beautiful, more sexy and more desirable, the h comes out fighting as she is a better person with a great spirit and a sweet soul (with or without a makeover). And I usually like and appreciate it as the h doesn’t have to be more beautiful but more attractive as a person. But what to do when she is insipid and uninspiring and cannot even hold the interest of the om or the reader?

"The Tawny Gold Man" is the story of Anna and Jud.
A forbidden stepsibling romance with loads of crazy jealousy, drama, relentless yearning, romance, hot-hot lovemaking, angst and HEA. I totally enjoyed the stolen glances, heated kisses and possessive displays by both h and H.
I'd have rated it higher if he'd stayed celibate for her. But he didn't, and with the obsessiveness he had for her, it kinda annoyed me.
Other than that, a great read!

This MMC was absolutely appalling. His father kicks him out after he's caught trying to screw his stepsister when she's 15 and he's 24 (because he was "past worrying about age"!!!) and has the gall to rage at his father for stepping up to protect an UNDERAGE GIRL by separating them. He spends the next 10 years whoring it up, showing up only after the father's death to take over the family business. He treats the doormat MFC like crap - I did not buy his undying love whatsoever given the callous, disrespectful way he treats her - and is an arrogant, ruthless and charmless asshole who communicates via insults, jibes, mocking, orders and threats. Oh, and he calls her "little girl" as an endearment, which was stomach-turning ... at least it makes his other favourite endearment ("chicken") slightly more palatable.

Definitely a romantic and emotional novel. Once again I ended up shedding a few good tears. I loved how it went, the story was well written and thought out. The hero at times ticked me off, for going about things the wrong way but he was totally aggressive and arrogant in such a deliciously great way.

Quite a traditional HP, only it isn't Harlequin. It's Dell Candlelight.
The birthday kiss between stepsiblings gets a bit too intimate and the stepbrother gets himself kicked out of the house by his own dad. Now 10 years later he's in charge of the family money and it seems his only desire is revenge. Or making his stepsister's life hell.
Where can you find lines like this?
"Gently he unlocked the door that guards all maidens."
LOL

I love me an H who has loved the h for ages but I docked a star cz of the stilted writing style and the fact that the H wasn't celibate during separation although to be fair, it was 10 years. Major ick factor was a bit too much detail of the H and h making out when she was 15 - I try to ignore this in HQs if its mentioned once only in passing but this pushed the rules a bit. You can see the H is still crazy in love with the h though. I think their consummation was super duper rushed when it had been the trigger for his exile all these years but oh well.

April 2, 2023Long ago, in what seemed another lifetime. Jud Cammeron had vowed to love her always. Now. as Anne Moore looked at her stepbrother, she saw a total stranger—assured, arrogant, commanding—who had returned to take control of his father's estate and everyone on it.
He was so close and yet so far away. What had happened to the Jud she remembered? And what was happening to her, a woman engaged to one man yet bound to a memory—a moment of wild, rioting sensation when she answered the passionate demand of Jud’s hungry kiss?

I can't really decide what I think about this book. I usually like the smitten hero, but sadly Jud is the boring variety. He was like a bit wishy washy with a lot of his dealings with her. For the most part I find myself being suspicious behind his motive of persuasion. Like after kissing her breathless he follows with some business issue. It's a full book and has some characters that don't really have a life to them. I felt everyone was just clueless about what they were about.
