Delicious chocolates and mysterious gifts are leaving quite a deathly impression in the next installment of the Paramour Bay Mysteries by USA Today Bestselling Author Kennedy Layne…
Someone seems to want the local librarian—who just happens to be the town’s friendly neighborhood werewolf—erased from Paramour Bay’s history!
After some strange turn of events, it’s concluded that regifting a box of heart-shaped chocolates might not have been such a great idea. The recipient ends up dead and a puzzling whodunit ensues, while Raven and the gang must band together to protect one of their own.
You’ll want to brew up your own cup of tea before reading this quirky murder mystery…just to be safe!
Kennedy Layne is a USA Today bestselling author. She draws inspiration for her romantic thrillers in part from her not-so-secret second life as a wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant. He doubles as her critique partner, beta reader, and military consultant. Kennedy also has a deep love for cozy mysteries, thrillers, and basically any book that can keep her guessing until the very end. They live in the Midwest with their menagerie of pets. The loyal dogs and mischievous cats appreciate her writing days as much as she does, usually curled up in front of the fireplace.
Witch Raven Marigold has another fascinating murder mystery to solve in Kenndy Layne's latest Paramour Bay Cozy Mystery, Cocoa Blend. Raven and her familiar Leo have a tough one to solve this time. The town librarian, Harry the werewolf, is almost poisoned. Unfortunately Harry passed the box of poisoned chocolates on to his neighbor who died from the poison. I really like how Raven's friends and family step up to work with her to solve the murder. There's lots of action and suspense in this story. I loved it!
Raven once again finds herself in the middle of another paranormal mystery in Paramour Bay, whilst I enjoyed this cozy mystery I did find the writing style a little distracting and almost chaotic. It was Leo's running commentary and thoughts that run over other characters that I struggled with most, the plot was good, it has strong characters and enough intrigue to be compelling without being too complex to follow. I have read a number of Kennedy Lane books and never had this distraction before...so it is probably unique to this series, it wouldn't stop me trying another book in this series. I read this book on Kindle Unlimited.
When the local werewolf is nearly killed by a box of chocolate laced with poison, Raven and the rest of the supernatural team (with a couple of human exceptions) in Paramour Bay step in to help.
Paramour Bay, a quaint seaside town with it's own share of supernatural residents including a couple of witches including Raven, the main character, a hedge witch, vampire, druid, wizard, golems, werewolf, gargoyle and of course Mr Leo, Raven's familiar!
Cosy mysteries which are short, easy to read and standalone stories, although to preserve continuity they are best read in order. Easy to read in an evening.
I do like this series. The characters and the setting is well defined and conversations flow naturally. The problem I have is the constant ramblings of Raven's familiar, Leo. Granted he's supposed to be damaged, but if I have to keep reading about the squirrel fight, I may have to stop reading. It is very disruptive and makes it hard to enjoy the story. Hopefully he will have a lot less print time in future stories.
Nice to get to know some other supes a bit more. I enjoyed the overall story. It was a good mystery, not too obvious. Just the right amount of suspects.

The recipient ends up dead and a puzzling whodunit ensues, while Raven and the gang must band together to protect one of their own. It appears that a werewolf hunter is on the loose. A poisoned box of chocolates that ultimately poisons the wrong person leads to a mystery of epic proportions. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
