Teacher Emma Whitstone, reserved and quiet, works with deaf children while yearning for a family of her own. Charles Strong Manning is an outgoing, self-assured attorney. They couldn’t be more different, but their incredible chemistry leads to love, marriage, and a family.
There is more to Strong than meets the eye. In addition to his successful consulting law practice, he also has a dangerous and clandestine second job—one that could jeopardize his family. To protect Emma from worry, Strong does not tell her that he is the leader of a four-person undercover rescue operation. When one of those missions goes terribly wrong, and lives are lost, Emma suspects her husband is involved in something mysterious and violent.
One of Strong’s team-members wants Strong for herself and will do anything to get him. Finding Emma in a vulnerable state, the woman feeds Emma horrifying information about Strong. Emma takes her children to a place she believes is safe from her husband and the double life he leads. But is any place safe? Is Strong the monster she’s told he is, or the man she fell in love with? Or something entirely different?
Strong leaves no stone unturned and finds his wife and children. Can he convince Emma to trust him again? Will love be enough to heal their wounds? He has never failed a mission. Can he rescue his relationship?
3.5 Stars Emma Whitstone works with deaf children. Charles “Strong” Manning is an attorney. Emma sees him in action at the courthouse and is warned to avoid him, that he’s cold, he dates and dumps women, and he was even called a snake in the grass! But the two of them fall in love, marry, and have a family. However, Strong didn’t tell his wife everything. He is the leader of a secret rescue team that involves extremely dangerous missions. In order to not worry his wife about this “second job”, he keeps it a secret. We all know secrets rarely work well.
When a mission goes wrong, Emma begins to suspect her husband is involved in something violent – which happens to be true. One of his team members wants Strong and she takes advantage of the timing here to lie to Emma and make sure to frighten her so she will leave. She, of course, takes the children and hides from her husband. Has his not disclosing the truth put her in more danger? If he is able to find them again, would she trust him? Would she give him a second chance?
Communication is one of the most important tools we have in any kind of relationship, and even more so in this “double-life” scenario. There is no situation where he should have kept that information from her, especially as it could be lethal to his family if they are unsuspecting and the bad guy lies to them… like that betrayer on his team. I felt it was kind of a weak story line to begin with, starting with their first meeting each other. The characters didn’t make me like them and I soon lost interest.
Thank you NetGalley, author Patricia Crumpler, and World Castle Publishing for giving me a free arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 3 stars This book follows the dating and eventually marriage between Strong Manning and Emma Whitstone. What begins as a whirlwind romance takes a darker turn as the secrets of Strong's job cause a rift within their marriage. How can you trust the one you love if you really don't know who they really are? This book did not really have a lot of depth nor character growth! The characters felt instant attraction towards one another, then they pursued a relationship that have very little development or foundation beyond the physical ; which causes one of them to discover something shocking about the other that causes a rift. Finally they finally have "the talk" by one of the secondary characters and discovers low and behold it has all been a huge misunderstanding and cue happily ever after! I found Emma was a little naivete in regards of allows others to influence her without really asking the right questions or having an actual conversation with the people involved. Strong tried to have an alpha male personality, but did not set the clear boundaries for the people in his life that cause his wife to question his faithfulness. Overall, I would like to read more books by this author. I would recommend this book for those who like a quick romantic suspense book during traveling and or a cozy weekend!
Ever heard the saying, "Opposites attract?" Of course, we all have and that saying could not be more true then in the story of Emma and Charles. Emma is a quiet woman and a caring teacher for deaf children. Charles is an attorney. Charles also is in charge of an undercover rescue operative. The second job, or the latter, if you will, is a job he keeps from his wife. So when he goes on one of his missions and it takes a turn for the worse, Emma doesn't understand. Her being confused and distraught is an open invitation to the woman that works undercover with Charles. She has wanted Charles for a long time. She tells Emma several untruths about her husband. Emma feels betrayed, hurt and frightened, enough so that Emma takes their children and goes into hiding. She has so many questions in her head. She was warned off Charles before they'd even started a relationship. But their chemistry was so strong and they were so happy, a marriage and family seemed eminent. Now what will she do? Is Charles really what that woman said he is? This is a gripping and compelling tale of how lies and deceit can destroy even the strongest foundation. Will Charles find Emma and the children? Is he really a beast in sheeps clothing? The answers are right at your fingertips, yep, right here in this book. A definite must have, 5 star read.
ok, as I noted before, I wondered if I was reading a different book than everyone else. When this book starts, Emma is not a teacher, she appears to be some kind of researcher and working for a not so nice guy. She see Strong at the courthouse where she has gone to do some research and decides she likes the look of him and sets out to meet him. Strong is a lawyer but also has a second job with the government. it's the second job that really makes him the money. Strong and Emma go out on 6 dates before she sleeps with him and then it seems, bam they are married and having a kid. The timeline on this was a little weird. I am not sure how I feel about this book, I really didn't care for Strong, can't explain it, just didn't like him. I really didn't care for scene between Lars and Emma about breast milk. I liked Lars, Lizzie, Joe and Becky. Did not care for Jo Lynn at all!
Emma is a researcher for a law firm and fascinated by a good-looking lawyer she sees on occasion. Her friend, Susie, warns her about Strong Manning, saying he is someone to avoid and will only break her heart. Strong is attracted to Emma and when he asks her out, she accepts. There is a strong attraction, but Emma soon finds out he is involved with other activities outside of appearing in court. There are times he disappears, for various time periods, and never gets in touch. I really liked this book. Great characters, steamy romance, adventure and danger, and family relationships that warm your heart.
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. Ms. Crumpler has written a wonderful indepth love story with a great storyline along with the romance and doesn't string the reader along to buy 3 or 4 books to get the whole story. Romance, suspense, drama that takes the reader beyond the wedding where a romance usually ends. Great characters and a little different story line. Well written and edited. Worth the price. This will stay on my kindle for a re-read in the future.

Emma work for a mans company and did a lot of file work at the courthouse for her job. Strong was a wealthy lawyer and worked on a team within a government agency. When Emma and Strong saw each other they both were attracted to the other and eventually they met. Their interesting and exciting romance began as they were thrown into something new for Strong. Emma and Strong faced danger, betrayal, misinformation, lies, family drama, old wounds and a love that was wholly tested. Good emotional read.

Charles leads a double life and doesnt tell his wife about it so communication should have been better between them. His wife Emma works with deaf children but one of Charles team has the hots for his wife so he has to work to save his marriage after a mission gone bad on the extra side of his life he didn't tell his wife about . The book was enjoyable to read and would have liked the characters to have been stronger. Otherwise it was not a bad book to read.

I stuck this one out, but I didn't enjoy it. The book seemed to skip around - years would pass. I didn't like Strong and I have no idea how he and Emma fell in love. And don't get me started on how fast they got married.
If a man took me to Vegas for the week and left me there and didn't communicate for over a month - I would be out.
A well written suspense story that kept me turning pages. Teacher Emma Whitstone and attorney with a secret Charles Strong Manning's story of suspense, marriage, drama, danger, lies, villains, two people that have to learn to talk to each other, and love. This is a new Author to me. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
