With the history-making announcement a little earlier this year that President Biden would not accept the nomination after he'd earned it a second time, Vice President Harris was immediately endorsed by notable politicians. Of course, by now (8-27-24) she is the official Democratic Nominee for President. The publicity, hype, and endorsements take me back to 2008 with Senator Obama--later, the 44th President. Will Kamala win? Who knows? I keep reading contradictory polls in the press. In the meantime, this not-so-little book was appropriate reading for the times. Heather E. Schwartz, as is typical with these, takes the reader from the subject's birth to a recent event (in this case, Harris becoming the next Vice President and the Biden era beginning). As with the two similar books on President Bush (2001-2009) that I've read, these are nostalgic in their writing for an intended audience of younger Elementary school students. Also similar, these do not have one sentence per page, but rather paragraphs that go through the subject's life. Schwartz didn't rush through or add things that were hard to believe as one of the Bush book authors did. She also didn't, thankfully, mention abortion--not even once. If only Harris and Walz would follow this example... 🫤 3 stars.

This book gives a very positive look at our current Vice President. The author choose to gloss over most of the negative or real challenges in this woman's life. The book is a good base to start reading about this remarkable lady; but just a start. I hope in the near future to read a more balanced account of her life. The writing style is smooth.

Kamala Harris is always fighting for what is right. In fact, when she was in middle school she organized a protest to get her apartment managers to let the children play in the front yard. Her dream to become a lawyer was realized and by 1989 she was working as a deputy district attorney. In 2010 she was elected California Attorney general, by 2016 she was a US senator, and in 2020 ran with Joe Biden on the Democratic Ticket for President/Vice President of the United States.

Heather Schwartz is a gifted writer for young readers. Although this is a short biography the Vice President's life and passions have been presented concisely and without political drama. Includes a timeline, lots of photographs and source material.
