Ember Brady would never describe herself as stubborn. She’s a pastry chef. Doesn’t that make her patient by definition? Who cares if she’s set in her ways? So what if she doesn’t relent? It’s called passion and determination. She wants to open her own bakery, and the baking competition is her ticket to her dream job. She would die to win. That’s just a figure of speech, though. Lion shifter Kai Mason is proud of his family’s security business. They’re in charge of all things security at F&D Network, from actors to infuriating reality TV competitors. The studio is his domain and his to protect. If only the stubborn baker with a death wish would just let him save her. Doesn’t she understand that she’s his mate? When the baking competition comes under attack, the intense lion and his stubborn mate will have to find a compromise. Too bad both of them are out of practice. Crashing equipment, death threats, and vicious attacks can’t stop the course of true love — or can they?
Milly Taiden (also writes as April Angel) was born in the prettiest part of the Caribbean (to her) known as the Dominican Republic. Currently, she resides in New York City with her husband, bossy young son and their little dog Speedy.
When she’s not working full-time, texting with her best friend Heidi in England, chastising her son for pulling the dog’s ears, shopping with her sister Jewel or watching scary movies with her husband, she can be found writing on her laptop.
She’s addicted to shoes, chocolate, Dunkin Donuts coffee and JIMMY THOMAS covers!!!
This is a cute story with two sweet characters, the plot however had a lot of holes and it tried too hard to interject some mystery and misdirects which it failed on so many levels.
Ember has entered a cooking contest and man the prize is major, the winner not only gets their own show they get their own bakery. Ember has been working for another chef who is taking advantage of her and winning this competition would make her dream come true.
Kai who happens to be a lion shifter is head of security and he has some not so nice thoughts of those in the reality TV industry.
A mishap that injured Ember has them meeting and as they say the rest is left to the “Mate” thing. Ember is not aware of the shifting community and isn’t let in on Kai’s secret till about more than half way through the book.
I’m going to go with Ember being a BBW, while the author doesn’t come out and call her that she talks about love handles and other such body issues, which I’m ok with except it led to the inevitable low self esteem inner monologues.
Kai is a lion looking for his lioness and once he finds Ember his planets have aligned and he’s ready for kids and the whole package.
The two of them are actually pretty cute together. Ember is a bit too stuck on proving herself almost to it costing her her life. While, Kai is trying very hard to not go overboard and be the big take charge alpha and lock her in a room to protect her.
The rest of the story is very loose with some really big plot holes and parts that made no sense. For me the saving grace was the sweetness of Ember and Kai and their families, which were very welcoming and close.

This might just be my new favorite series! I love the action and danger, plus who doesn’t love a good cooking competition. The author kept me on my toes as Kai tried to find out who was threatening his mate. But it was a bit difficult with misdirection at every turn. The characters are phenomenal! Such a strong female character, and an alpha male willing to let her do her own thing as long as she stays safe. I enjoyed the interactions with both of their families, and I can’t wait to see what the next books bring. Maybe some more love in the air? Regardless, I’m sure to enjoy it all.
Hunting Ember is a sweet and steamy read. Kai is a fierce alpha shifter that has found his mate. Ember is witty and stubborn and has a passion for baking. When threats arises can Kai keep Ember safe.
I really loved this story.. It was funny, creative, entertaining, and STEAMY... Kai and Ember are lovable characters that deserved ro find there forever in eachother.. I look forward to seeing what happens with Embers sisters
Hunting Ember begins the Pride of Alphas series with a charming, steamy couple and hidden dangers sure to draw you into this series from the very start.
All Ember wants is her own bakery with one qualification, she wants to get that bakery on her own without one bit of help from her parents or sisters… at all. She’s a talented pastry chef, she practically runs her boss’s bakery on her goods alone yet she wants her own bakery. And she’s found a way to get that dream off the ground. All she has to do is win one simple baking competition. Right. If only it were really that easy she’d be picking out a storefront next week.
No, Ember is facing a danger lurking in the shadows, someone doesn’t want her competing let alone possibly winning that reality show competition and they’re making threats she should be paying attention to. Yet she’s not about to let someone steal her dream and she continues as the threatening letters start adding up. It won’t be long before someone has to step in to save her. Who knew that getting herself in danger like this would lead to meeting the perfect man for her… her mate.
I absolutely adored Kai. He’s a strong leader, a take-charge kind of guy who is in his element with danger, figuring out the enemy, and taking them down. He’s a pushover where his nephew and niece are concerned, and he’s just waiting to find his mate to complete his happiness and maybe have a few cubs of his own to spoil and love. He’s not desperate by any means, but he is waiting a bit impatiently these days as he watches his brother’s family grow and longs for that connection to someone meant just for him. Kai is about to have his wish granted… and he certainly wasn’t expecting this stubborn human to turn his world upside down. But first, he has to save the girl, make sure she gets her bakery and put a stop to the threats against Ember. That might be easier if his mate would remember that going off on her own without his protection puts her in danger – she might be his but she is one stubborn woman.
Hunting Ember has everything I love about Shifter Romance. A hot hero, a strong heroine, a vile villain, lots of sizzling chemistry, and two people who really do belong together. With a cast of secondary characters who will one day have their own stories told, this start to the Pride of Alphas series grabbed my attention and never let go. I’m hooked and waiting for Chasing Sparx up next.

Hunting Ember is the first book in the new series Pride of Alphas. In this book we meet human Ember & lion shifter Kai as they fight their way to happily ever after.
Ember's lifelong dream is to open her own bakery & do it on her own. That dream is within reach if she can win the big baking competition. But between someone trying to scare her off & that big, bossy security guy, her dream might be farther away than she hopes.
Kai's the head of his pride & the family security business. They've just taken on a new client, a big cooking network, so he's heading it up himself. So what if he has to put up with cooking competitions & reality show stars. He can deal with it for his business & family. But he never expected his mate to be one of them. And how can he keep her safe from the person trying to hurt her if she won't let him protect her?
To be honest, I had a hard time connecting to the main characters at first but it finally came together for me a little ways into the story line. The plot is a great one & once I got into it a ways, it really kept my attention. There were a few things that didn't quite make sense to me, but they were minor & easy to get passed. All in all, this seems like a good start to a new series.
I voluntarily read & reviewed this advanced reader's copy.
Kai and Ember are Fated Mates a human and a shifter, a great story Kai was the Alpha of his pride after the honour had been passed down to him and he was a very serious Alpha that enjoyed caring for his family and also his pride, he felt extremely honoured with his life. Ember had sudden received threatening letters that told her to drop out the baking competition that she wanted to win so that she would be able to open her own Bakery, she was determined she would not be chased out but when the first accident could easily of killed her she refused to be pushed around. Kai could not believe it she was his mate and he knew that he had to care for her and would make sure that no one ever got close enough again, Kai knew that as the head of security for the TV Company she should take every threat seriously. Their relationship takes off running and both of them have never known such happiness it is as though they are yin and yang to each other and once she knew he was a shifter and how this affected them she was able to appreciate what a Fated Mate was. This is a truly wonderful story you will be unable to put this book down until you discover the final outcome, it will keep you guessing. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
This is the first book in the Pride of Alpha's series. And in this we get Ember and Kai's story. Ember is a baker who dream's of opening her own bakery. If she can win this big baking competition, her dream can become a reality. But someone keeps trying to scare her off. Kai is not only head of his pride but he is also head of the family security business. When they take on a big cooking network, he decides to handle the job himself. He knew he would have to put up with the network and the reality stars but he never knew he would meet his mate among them. Now he has to keep her safe when she doesn't want him anywhere near her.
This one started off a little slow for me. At first I was thinking that I wouldn't be able to get into it, but that soon changed once I read a little more. Ember is extremely sweet but she also has this stubborn side that I wasn't really expecting. Kai was not what I was expecting, but I loved that he was a teddy bear inside for the people he loved! There is some action and suspense that help push their romance along, but there are a few holes that I am still left wondering about. On a whole though, I did like it a lot although I wouldn't say this a favorite by this author.
Milly and my fav shifter beast, the Lion! already a win-win for me. Our fab author pairs sexy stubborn, with sexy stubborn and ya going to wonder with sexy is going to win. The first in the series turns out to be fun, sexy, and with a bit of mystery all in the mix.
Ember's family is over the top beautiful, famous and at the top, ember not so much. She doesn't see anything wrong with how she's doing her thing. Baking and owning her own shop without the help of her fam. The big baking contest she needs to win...
Kai well what Lion isn't warm and cuddly and thinking of mate and cubs? yeah, he may be a bit out of the norm but he wants what he wants. His family is into security at all levels and when they take on a new client Kai is less than happy about being around the stereotypical camera reality show diva's. Being around all the sweets will keep the Lion and his sweet tooth mollified.
Someone's out to keep Ember out of the competition. Kai gives her *direction* to keep herself. Ember has a problem with following directions, she's used to doing things her way. In the midst of the danger plot to take the witty stubborn beauty out of the running, is the sparks that fly between Lion and human...oh my.
Ember Brady is a talented pastry chef who is sick of working for other people and so desperately wants to own her own bakery. A reality show competition will the prize of winning your own bakery sounds the perfect answer as it would mean she did it on her own merit and not via a handout from her family. Alpha lion shifter and in charge of his family's security business, they currently have a contract with the company behind the reality TV show F&D Network and so is their current head of security. When he meets Ember his lion makes it incredibly clear that she is his mate. So when Ember is the target for several death threats and an accident he just wants to keep her safe, although she is just focused on the competition. Can they find a compromise and will all this stubbornness and danger stop the course of true love between them?
I really enjoyed this story which has lots of danger and drama mixed in with a battle of wills between two people who were not prepared to compromise until they really had no way of not doing that and stay together. I loved the way that their relationship developed and the battle of wills that developed between them. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.
2,5 stars I am in a reading hollow (nothing finds favor in my eyes), and I read this novel even if it does not really fall into the genres that I like. Well, there's the theme of shapeshifters, and that's what motivated me to download this novel, but the theme is pretty much missing. In fact, it seems plastered on the plot, we could have removed it and the narrative would work anyway. The plot spoils at the end, the resolution of the mystery is very disappointing.
Ember is awesome, she is sassy, confident, determined and unapologetically embraces food and desserts...no diets for her! But she also has no idea just how attractive her confidence and no drama attitude is to other people, especially Kai! Kai stole my heart from page one, he may be a protective shifter, but he is also a cuddler, with a sweet tooth, who loves kids and is desperate for a mate and cubs...not many Alpha's admit to that! This first book in the series is packed with a firecracker of a woman, a frustrated hero, yummy goodies, naughty thoughts, sexy baking and a stalker who will stop at nothing. An introduction to the series that will hook you and leave you eager for book two, out in June, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.....but now I am heading to the kitchen to bake some triple chocolate cup cakes.....
I know I say this often but this is my favorite Milly Taiden book. It’s a fun start to a new series. I LOVED Kai and Ember. She’s a baker trying to win a baking competition to get her own bakery. Kai owns a security company that is the security for the show. I adored Kai’s tiger and how his tiger talked to him once they sensed her as their mate. This book was an amazing read and I could not put it down. I loved that he wanted to take her on dates. Their first date was so romantic. It was so scary/dramatic trying to figure out who was trying to harm her to keep her out of the competition. I never even figured out who it was until it happened. I loved when they told Ember to ... tell your sisters their mates are on the way lol. Great set up for this series.

Ember was a fabulous cupcake baker. She longed yo have her own bake shop. She was going to do it on her own terms- not with the help of her famous food blogger mom , her influencer sister or the actress (sister). So entering and potentially winning the food network bake off was easy peasy. And the prize? Cash and her own bakery. Score! Now the problem is, someone wants her to NOT go on the show and is threatening to kill her if she does. Kai's firm is running security for the bake off, for the whole food network. After being called to the set for the bake off- he finds Ember hurt. And both he and his cat take notice. Have to keep her safe. Have to find out who may be Hunting Ember. Mate? Can Kai keep her safe while tracking the one who means her harm? Fabulous book in the Pride of Alphas series by Milly Taiden!
Just what he didn't want to do. Be security on a baking competition --the winner gets a heck of a prize. Contest or not she's gonna be a winner. She's his mate and he isn't letting go. He just has to get her to listen to his orders about her safety to keep her alive.
She's...independent. At least that is what she calls it. Since he has another big surprise besides the instant love part, he won't argue about what she calls it. Ignoring his rules is something else. They each have a strong supportive family. Is it going to be enough?
Another story that has intrigue, friends and family support, steam, lots of steam, and more great world-building. More to come with this series. One of her teasing but supportive sisters is up next.
Ember and Kai are both great characters. Ember is sweet and shy. She is determined to be successful without relying on anyone else's help. That is probably her greatest flaw since having the support of others wouldn't have taken away from her success. Kai is the alpha of his Lion Pride and you would think that would make him all dominant and pushy, however, he has a soft, gushy inside. When he wants to push Ember into doing things his way, he is able to see her side and not force the issue.
The story itself has a few issues, nothing too major however enough to make you question what the author was going for. I won't go into details since I wouldn't want to give too much of the story away.
This was a fun, sexy book based on "What if reality cooking show met a shifter show." I can just see this show on a Netflix series because it is sure to hot to be on Hallmark that is for sure. Right out of the gate head of security Kai knew his mate was in the studio and so if you are a shifter fan you are aware that means chemistry and heat will be bouncing off the walls. And so when Ember gets hurt the protection gene turns up the heat 10 fold. Plus it's a baking contest. Oh my our author does delight the reads with tasty descriptions all around if you know what I mean. I am so looking forward to seeing Ember's sisters books and what kind of shifters find them as their mates.
Kai is a lion shifter who thinks he may never find his mate. He works in the security business, some that takes place at a television network and sees a lot of shallow people. He believes that all "reality" TV is nothing but scripted and fake. Shy Ember is a baker and has decided that she will go on a cooking show in order to win herself a bakery. Someone does not want her to appear on the show or win it. She has recieved a threat. When Kai meets her, he knows she is his mate. Can he protect her from whoever is targeting her as well as from her own stubbornness?
Fantastic! Hunting Ember is the first story in the Pride of Alpha series. This is Ember and Kai's story. Kai is the head of his pride & the family security business. Ember's lifelong dream is to open her own bakery & do it on her own. So she enter in a baking contest. As soon as Kai meets her, he knows that she is his mate. What happens when someone is treating your mate? Can he protect her from whoever this is? You gotta read this for yourself. I promise it will keep your attention until the very end. Can't wait to more from series. Keep up the awesome work girl!

This story was cute, if a bit over the top sweet at moments (and I don't mean the cupcakes). Ember was certainly stubborn, she was so convinced she had to get her bakery on her own that she actually put herself in danger. I liked Kai, he was what you expect in an alpha shifter, protective and a bit domineering. But it was also clear how much he cared about his family. I did think the romance was a bit too fast paced, but a bit expected with the fated-mate trope.
It will be interesting to see Ember's sisters find their mates as well.
Book 1 in Pride of Alpha’s by Milly Taiden Ember is a baker that enters a competition in the hopes to start her own business, she is very strong willed, that knows what she wants and determined to get it, I love that she loves her food and isn’t ashamed of it. Kia is a lion shifter and runs a security company that is hire for the competition where he meets his mate Ember. I love that he’s so cuddly and sweet especially to his nieces and nephews. He’s honest about want a wife and family. Milly Taiden is the paranormal shifter queen and get a sattifaing read every time.
I loved this book! I love how Milly weaves her characters together and makes you fall in love with not only the hero but the heroine too. I loved Ember. I loved how driven she was to do things for herself and not to rely on anyone else. Her determination was inspiring. Of course, let's not leave out the hot, hot, HOT lion alpha, Kai! I had to fan myself as I read because was that hot! DO NOT miss this new book by Milly Taiden!

I absolutely loved the Kai and Ember. They each judge each other based on incorrect first impressions but are still drawn to each other anyway. I love how strong willed (stubborn) Ember is but Kai knows exactly how to get her to see his point of view. Just because she wants to do everything on her own, doesn't mean she has to; especially, when there is a mad man on the loose wanting to hurt her. They are both independent and strong people that only build one another up. I cannot wait to see what Milly has in store for Ember's sisters.
Milly has done it again! What a great read! Kai was such a protective alpha and so sweet! Ember was so tough, stubborn, and independent! I loved her! They were perfect together! Such great characters and an amazing storyline! All the baked goods sounded so good and made me hungry! This was a perfect beginning to a series. Action, suspense, and very hot! Can’t wait for more! Highly recommend!

First book in series. We meet Ember, who is a pastry chef. She wants to win tv show, so she can own her storefront. She doesn’t want ask her parents and sisters for help. Kai is a lion shifter, he works in security and can’t wait till he meet his mate. After incident on set Kai meets Ember, his mate... his stubborn mate. To have future with her, he has to find person who wants to harm Ember. Great story, can’t wait to read other books in series.
A fantastic start to a new series. Ember is a baker who gets chosen to compete on a reality show and that's only the beginning. Then there's Kai the lion shifter who's security. Once these two cross paths from an unforseen event, sparks fly. It's a page turner with some suspense, a little action and a twist or two. Definitely a book to read. It doesn't disappoint and I look forward to reading more of this series.
What a good start to a new series. Plenty of intrigue, suspense, mystery, and of course steamy encounters to keep you hooked from beginning to end making it a helluva of read. Can't wait to see what going to happen next in this series. I received a free copy via Booksprout and as always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Winning a baking competition can bring Ember's life long dreams of opening her own bakery to reality, but in order for that to happen she has to survive the contest. Kai's job is to keep people safe but is Ember going to prove to be to difficult to protect? Hunting Ember is the first book in the new series Pride of Alphas. Such a cuddly lion! Awe he was very much in touch with the wooing side of dating/mating and took into account Ember's human side. This was a great read and I loved how its based around a baking competition show- how fun are those especially for binge watching? Hunting Ember was a great read with the normal romance and hot sex scenes, but also with those bits of drama when you think its going somewhere and it ends up being completely different.
