A clay tablet is discovered at an excavation in Knossos, Crete. The text is written in a language that no one can decipher, but the Nazis have come to claim it and Napoleon sends his own Savants Temporal to the Minoan tomb. Meanwhile something ancient is infecting the descendants of the great houses of Europe. Book four in the best selling Infinity Engine series.
Andy was born in 1967, and grew up with a love of science fiction inspired by the TV shows of the late 70s. Having always had a creative eye, he graduated with a BA Honours in Graphic Design, and has gone on to have a successful career as a Creative Director within a number of digital agencies, creating award-winning work for some of the largest global brands. During this time he nurtured his passion for writing sci-fi and secured a commission with the BBC for his first script, The Department of Unknown Origins, a Victorian X-Files set in the Natural History Museum, exec produced by Jon Plowman and considered by BBC Drama and Sky One.
The Anachronist is his first novel, one of a three part series called 'The Infinity Engines.' You can find out more about it on his blog: www.infinityengines.com
He lives in Surrey with his wife, two teenage daughters and a troublesome puppy.
I enjoyed the series and the first 3 books were definitely good. I feel like the series could’ve finished with the 3rd book and that this one was unnecessary. I’ll probably not keep going in the series. I recommend the first 3 books.
I have read up thru the fifth book, and where I have really enjoyed the series, it has become tougher and tougher to read for me. I can’t quite remember all the details from previous books that are reference and the characters don’t seem to evolve the way I would like them to. I recommend the series I just don’t know that I will go much further with it.
Book #4 of the Infinity Engine series. I pretty much inhaled this one. The story has gotten a lot more complex and the obstacles facing our protagonists are many and deadly. If you like history, if you like peering back into eras long since passed, if you at all wonder what it would be like to walk in history, then you would like Hastie's series. It has been fun, exciting, and informative.
Another great installment in The Infinty Engines series. Although I found book 4 a little harder to get in to at the start, it didn't take long for momentum to pick up and then I couldn't put it down.
Really enjoyed that! I particularly like how the book is concluded and then has the cliffhanger, making you excited for then next but content to wait till it's ready.
There was a lot of history packed in this one (it seemed more than I remember in the others) which could be distracting or confusing, jumping around the dates so much, but I liked it. It shows what must be a huge amount of research. I felt it gives a non linear feel of time which is appropriate, and I didn't feel like I was trying to track it, it just flowed along the story.
Great book 👍

I found it harder to enjoy this one, compared to the previous ones.
Maybe it was just too much a case of "Okay, we saved the universe, but OH NO here's another threat!"
This series always seems to be in FULL CRISIS MODE! Like, I wish we had more time to just follow the characters around doing their cool time travel stuff. But maybe that would be boring, I dunno.
I think these books have some issues individually, but to me, the charm of the universe that’s been built and the characters make up for that. I really love the visuals, I love the lack of modern technology, and I love the ties to history. It’s really nice to have a time travel series that’s not super techy- as a huge Star Trek fan, I end up comparing books to Star Trek novels quite often, and really for me there’s no competition so I’m often let down. This is a perfect balance
I have Always been drawn to & fascinated by Time Travel stories. I will show my age by saying that The Time Tunnel is how I got started with the genre. The original Quantum Leap was a big favorite of mine and far too many Sci Fi books to list. This is a great series with a totally different take on the How and Why. No spoilers, just read the series. Me? I'm on my way to the next book in the series!!
This brought a new element into time travel books that I've not really ever seen before - a time parasite. This definitely made for a unique story and an interesting way of solving the problem because of it. I was rather nervous about this book given how well the last one ended thinking that the following books would just be milking the series, but that was not at all what it turned out to be. I am very intrigued to see where else the author will take this series
This installment is quite bitty and disjointed. Although it makes sense shifting between viewpoints/points in time and space, sometimes I had to go back and check when and where I was. By this point, I'm fully invested, and it's testament to how engaging this series is that a pedantic editor like me can see past dodgy grammar.
Well well Andy Hastie, as I've previously said, I'd like just 5minutes inside your head. Your imagination is so beautiful and exquisite. I adore your books and you must be very proud knowing you have made us so happy with your writings. People should be asking you to make your brilliant books into films. Thank you for making me happy 😊
This is a great series. I can’t wait to start the next book. This crazy book of time travel, adventure, and survival had Josh and Kaitlin scrambling for their lives as they try and save the timeline for the future. A lot of crazy characters and creatures galore. A fascinating story line. I highly recommend this book
Enjoyed this 4th outing in this series. Though it took me a while to get into it with the multiple POVs. But don't let that deter you, the author does a nice job weaving all the threads together at the end. Lots of nods to Stargate with this outing. Worth the read
After the war with the Nihil I assumed this series was over. But boy am I glad that Andrew kept the series going with a new enemy. This has been such a great book and series, I can't wait to read the next one. Highly recommend.
Hope you can either ignore all the time changes, or reconcile them, because they come fast and furious in this volume. Took a while to get back in the swing of the author's style, but once I did, it was great. Good read!
Wow, had my head rammed with history classes. It was gruelling but had to be done to get to the end. Still on to the next one as I just can't leave it there on that ending can I now?
This really starts to get confusing after a while. It was all good until they introduced timeless space worms. Definitely not my favorite in the series
I personally didn't like much this book, compared to the previous books. I feel that some 'anchors' of the sereis feel apart in this book. Josh became god like in some aspects, but definitely not others. It was an ok history.
