Are you looking to get on a 'Fast Track' in your career?
I have been working for just over 5 years now, so clearly, I’m not a former CEO looking back on an amazing career ready to share my experiences. That being said, things have been going pretty well for me so I have decided to write this now because I’m still very much ‘in it’. I’m currently at a point in my career that is still very close to that very first working day, and thanks to that I hope that this book can offer highly specific and directly applicable recommendations for young starters and people looking to continue their career progression without unnecessary delays.
After reading this book, I strongly hope you look at the world of work in a different light. I will attempt to convey a mindset, a set of behaviors, a way to structure your thinking, a framework for communicating, and tips on how to continue growing - all of which have served me well so far.
My ambition in writing this book is explicitly to keep it brief, clear, and focused on the core message without adding redundant ‘fluff’. I would much rather see you read this distilled version three times than tripling the number of pages and diluting what I’m trying to bring across. I hope you will find highly specific advice on every single page - with the risk of this book feeling ‘light’ on personal stories. It is a conscious choice. For personal stories, feel free to speak to me directly via LinkedIn.
If you will only read one book in the first years of your career, read "The Fast Track". It should become the go-to book for every young professional ready to create an impact.
The book is easy to read, offers pragmatic knowledge on how to grow (habits, tips & tricks) and works very motivating.
I'm confident it will help me to further differentiate myself and get more recognized.
As an avid reader of personal development and non-fiction books, I typically judge the quality of a book by how fast I finish it. A good book is a book I cannot put down. For me, The Fast Track was such a book. I read the book in one sitting and enjoyed it a lot.
The book recommends to look out for "no regrets moves". In my opinion, reading The Fast Track is a perfect example of a "no regrets move". The book is concise, contains to-the-point advice and summarizes the most important topics in the self-improvement genre relevant to the work environment e.g., taking other peoples’ perspective (seek first to understand, then to be understood), how to respond to feedback, taking (extreme) ownership, focusing on what you can control.
I can recommend the book specifically to all recently graduated students starting their first job. Following the advice from the book will definitely get you ahead in your career. To people previously unfamiliar with the genre, I can highly recommend to read the books from David's reading list at the end of the book.
I strongly believe that everyone struggles with one or more aspects at work, including myself: how do I deal with my boss? How do I structure my work? How can I best position myself to grow as fast as possible, without skipping the necessary steps?
The fast track was for me an eye-opener that formulates answers to these questions and more. questions I have been struggling with for a while. The fast track is not a let's-write-500-pages-to-make-a-single-point type of self-help book but one that is clear, to the point and without fluff. I am currently using it as a reference, as a kind of safe heaven with tips & tricks to fall back on when I'm in doubt or struggling with a certain aspect.
Highly recommended for every young, ambitious professional.
Absolutely recommended for every (ambitious) young professional who seeks advice and mentorship regarding efficiency, productivity and visibility in the workplace.
David clearly explains his do’s and don’ts based on his own experience and gives real life examples - which makes it easy to apply his recommendations to your own situation.
In general, easy-to-read book, full of relevant tips for (starting) young professionals. Highly recommended!
