ECSTASY ON THE MOUNTAIN - A LONG WAIT: An Encounter with A Mysterious Character on his Journey from Ordinary to Extraordinary

Rate this book
Yudhajit's debut in scripting an emotional love novel is about two little people with big dreams. They find their lives entangled after a strange meeting in the picturesque locales of Shillong, a North East India town popularly called "the Scotland of East".This book is the story of an Australian girl, Lucy Lawson. She is an eloquent and moving lady with extraordinary zeal. She balances a yearning masterfully for self-discovery with the need for familial love - a woman's longing for life amid nature, where simplicity and basic human values prevail. This lady, who was a student of cognitive psychology, takes time off to visits the hill locales of enchanting beauty with an older man Vivek Marak as she discovers in his story, a very fascinating, stark, and cruel introspection book; and thereafter de-addiction as well as the character-building effort which makes it an Indian writing book of importance. His life is a moving no-holds-barred dissection of his own self on the surgical table of life that ebbs and flows in its richness, enveloping all our rationality, irrationality, emotions and frustrations, longing and despair make us rejoice at our triumphs and achievements. At times, we curse ourselves at the follies and blunders we commit willy-nilly. This modern fiction is an honest account of a commoner's remarkable journey as any of us. "Ecstasy on the Mountain" has a novel force while masterfully packaged. An average reader can read it in a single sitting. Yudhajit writes with dazzling assurance, at a fast pace, on complex themes that read as the components of a thriller * passion for a sport, * disappointments in life for not realizing the dream, * falling prey to addictions, * a comeback trail to the normal life, and * most importantly, the value of the emotion, LOVE.

STORY OF A FIGHTER

YUDHAJIT-The pen name of the author drew my attention and aroused immense curiosity even before I started flipping through the pages. The story justifies the name Yudhajit meaning ‘one who comes out victorius in a war’. In Vivek we can easily find a person who is ready to fight the challenges thrown at him by life. He is a sportsman-per excellence always ready to learn the skills required to become a star soccer player. He does it with tenacity, sincerity and dedication. I’m thankful to author for educating the readers with intricate technicalities of the game which definitely will help budding players to learn and excel. Vivek is honest in his approach for the game and thus could not adjust to the manipulative tactics of the selectors- more political and less technical. As a player, he has always believed in hard work and never thought of pleasing the selectors out of the field. He was so much shocked to the core for being dropped from National squad that he decided to say good bye to his favourite game. The love for the game of soccer had brought Sima, his girl friend, and Natu da , the coach, in his life . His agony and anger of being deprived from deserving selection was so intense that he disconnected himself from everything associated with the game. Eventually, he broke up with both of them. He became addicted to alcohol and gambling with the sole aim of keeping himself away from his misery and sad memories associated with game.
But, he is not a loser and the inner conscience brings him close to his school friend Tony who had already gone through this cycle of life. Tony helped him to join recovery programme and the unspoiled soul of Vivek-the warrior embraced the opportunity with eagerness and sincerity. He came out a winner again and met Lucy at the most appropriate juncture of life when everything looked to become normal for him .He longed for the love and warmth of a girl friend and Lucy, with her professional and natural empathy, filled up the void. Thanks to the author for describing the beauty of Shillong capturing its true magical spirit. The few days in the life of Vivek spent in the company of Lucy at Shillong is captured in the story in such a lucid and free flowing manner that their love and understanding for each other leaves permanent imprint on the mind of the reader.
As Lucy waits for Vivek at Paro for the much awaited reunion after a year- long gap, I pray to Almighty for making the moment beautiful and joyful so that both the pure souls could bind them in permanent bondage of conjugal love. But, the author has different plan in his mind- keeps us in suspense as to whether Vivek is alive or dead. I don’t know but my innermost core of heart prays for his life. Hope they meet soon….

A short romantic novelette

It is an excellent novelette of two romantic individuals of the West and the East. The author takes us to the scenic beauty of Bhutan and Shillong with his great narration skills.
The story turns many twists and turns that are unique to an upcoming celebrity footballer. Finally, the author kept us in grand perplexity about that imposing footballer.
We don't know when the time may strike nemesis on one's life. This book is a must-read short fiction. I enjoyed reading it.

A fast moving story of an Australian lady psychologist Lucy Lawson who comes to North East Indian hill Station Shillong on holidays. She meets a strange man Vivek Marak and in the short time, they fell in love. The climax of the book by Yudhajit (pen name) is really interesting and leaves people wonder as to what would happen to their romance when Lucy waits for her lover in picturesque Bhutan.
