Blackbird Beach #5

Gulf Coast Moonlight

Rate this book
Escape to the Gulf Coast of Florida with Georgia Carpenter as she gets a second chance at life, love, and happiness.

With the storm behind her, Georgia Carpenter looks forward to reaching her goal of reopening the inn left to her by her great aunt. It seems very attainable, too, thanks to all the help she’s been getting from family and friends.

She and Travis Taylor, her handsome handyman, seem to be on a good path, as well. In fact, everything is going swimmingly until a rival in town does the unthinkable and creates all kinds of chaos.

Things begin to spiral out of control and Georgia fears her dream of starting over may become a nightmare if she can’t find a way to remove the curse they all seem to be living under.

Time off is time best spent at the beach, don't you agree?

The beach is my happy place. The sound of the waves are my favorite background music. And the sand between my toes is the best massage I can think of.

When I'm not at the beach, I'm writing or reading or cooking for my family. You know, life.

Georgia Carpenter, along with her family, has been working hard to get the inn up and running. She has chosen December 1st as their opening date. They only have a month to finish up their projects, hire staff, and open their doors. But now Georgia is worried. Her nemesis, Lavinia, brought a witch over to curse the inn. Georgia doesn't believe in curses, but she is worried about the gossip spreading in town. Will this stop people from staying at the inn? Now mysterious things are happening. The flowers in the porch boxes have suddenly died. A tire on a new vehicle goes flat. Is it the curse or is someone sabotaging the inn?

This is the fifth book in the Blackbird Beach series. It is the continuing story of Georgia and her family who are restoring an inn that she inherited from her aunt. The first half of this story was very slow. It was a lot of talk about buying kayaks and giving lessons to the people who stay at the inn. We also saw Travis Taylor, the Inn's handyman and Georgia's love interest, getting ready to run for the town council against his former mother-in-law, Lavinia. The pace picked up in the second half of the story. It looks like someone is sabotaging the inn. Can they get proof that Lavinia is behind it? My rating: 4 Stars.

These books are a perfect listen during my work day.

They talk about what they are eating, always a favorite, you catch up on each character and throw they are progressing through these books. They always end on a cliff hanger where you want to rush right into the next one.

This book we meet Coffee, more progress and stumbling blocks with the inn, some romance and many breakfast ideas.

We needed the last book finding out that a curse had been placed on the inn. Construction and political campaigns are on the way but strange things are starting to happen.
Is the curse real?
We aren’t sure, but it never hurts to take some extra steps to make sure they all stay safe.
Relationships are finally starting to progress, all slow burns for sure.
No spice.

Another installment in the series about the Inn at Blackbird Beach, with Georgia and her crew. Incidents keep happening. Is it bad luck or a series of coincidences? Do we believe in curses, or is Livinia just up to no good? She does need to stop her bullying ways. It looks like Sam and her son are here to stay. She got a job! Travis’s campaign to take Livinia’s council seat is in full swing. Plans to open are getting closer, and Mia is working hard to book guests. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Yeesh. I did this to myself. I WANT to find out what happens to the Inn and the people, but the dialogue is so superficial and fluffy that I couldn't concentrate this time. This is free on Audible and I can easily listen to my friends Georgia, Mia, and Griffin, and now I'm curious about what will happen with the baby's daddy's mama.... but I'm not sure I can endure another

42/ 50 books read for the year

Needing something more light hearted after the last book, I went back to the quick audiobook series of Blackbird beach.

Blackbird Beach Golf Coast Moonlight delivers another delightful escape to the sunny shores of Florida, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time back with Georgia Carpenter! As the fifth book in the series, it picks up beautifully, continuing Georgia's journey of rebuilding her life, her great-aunt's inn, and her relationship with the ever-charming Travis Taylor.
The audiobook format truly enhances the experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the Gulf Coast atmosphere and Georgia's world. I particularly appreciated how the author weaves in the sense of community and the unwavering support Georgia receives from her friends and family. It’s genuinely heartwarming to witness her progress towards reopening the inn, and you find yourself rooting for her every step of the way.
Just when things seem to be going swimmingly, a new rival throws a wrench into Georgia's plans, creating some wonderfully engaging chaos. This unexpected turn of events definitely keeps me on my toes, as Georgia grapples with what feels like a "curse" threatening her dreams. The plot maintains a good pace, balancing the cozy, feel-good elements with just enough drama to keep you hooked.
While I loved almost everything about this installment, I did find myself wishing for just a tiny bit more resolution on one or two minor threads by the very end. However, this is a minor quibble in what is otherwise a truly enjoyable and uplifting listen. If you're looking for a charming, romantic, and slightly suspenseful escape to a picturesque coastal town, "Blackbird Beach Golf Coast Moonlight" is absolutely worth your time. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Gulf Coast Moonlight: Blackbird Beach Book 5 is written by Maggie Miller. This is not as well-written as previous books in this series. It lacks the suspense of the others. It is somewhat mundane.
Georgia is determined to open her hotel as soon as possible. Most of the problems created by the hurricane have been corrected and now they can turn their attention to getting the final details completed on the hotel and begin hiring staff. Only Georgia and Mia remain in the hotel as Griffin with Chloe, Travis, Samantha and Clayton, Agatha, and Mary Jane have moved back into their homes. Lilly is still in the hotel until her house is completely remodeled. She and Mia set the date of December 1 as opening day.
She begins to wonder if they will make it when things begin to happen which makes them have to redo something. It started with Lavinia brought the witch over to put a curse on the hotel or on someone in the hotel. Then Lavinia poisoned the flowers in the flowerboxes causing them to have to be emptied and new potting soil and flowers put in them. Someone opens the gas line in Lilly’s cottage after they have moved everything out and Lilly comes back to check paint samples. She could easily have died had Georgia not checked on her and pulled her from the house. When Griffin and Mia go to pick up kayaks, their tire is mysteriously flattened. The order of outdoor furniture for the hotel is cancelled; but luckily Lilly catches it quickly and hopefully it will be here in time for the photography session by a magazine.
Are these all just coincidences or is someone really after one of them or the hotel. Are Georgia and Travis correct in thinking Lavinia is behind everything?

How Far

Lavinia has put a tries hex on the Inn she thinks it will stop Georgia from building but Georgia will try to figure out what she's doing and which delights her because she doesn't believe in hex's and continues on which when she.gets to the truck to drive home it won't start. Sam gets a job at Tangles a local beauty shop and Elvina tries to get her to come home with food and bribes. Then Sam comes home to the beautiful flower boxes that all have died! And the straw who broke the back of all the Inn people is the house that her sister bought for herself the gas for the house was tampered with. Travis confronts Lavinia and Georgia hires a cook. Exciting and worrisome and a little scary when Lily Tensions rise in the small town as Lavinia attempts to hex the Inn, hoping to prevent Georgia's construction plans. Undeterred, Georgia remains skeptical of supernatural interference. When she tries to leave, her truck mysteriously refuses to start. Meanwhile, Sam secures a job at Tangles, the local beauty salon, while Elvina tries to lure her home with tempting food and persuasive bribes.

Returning home, Sam discovers her once-vibrant flower boxes have withered and died. The situation escalates when her sister's newly purchased house becomes the center of a dangerous incident. The gas line has been tampered with, nearly causing a fatal tragedy when Lily is almost killed by the leak.

Blackbird Beach and the Inn survived the hurricane, but can they survive Lavinia? She lost her battle regarding the Inn with the Council but she is not one to give up. She hired the local witch to place a curse on the Inn and possibly its occupants and is determined to make it seem as if the curse is real. However, when she goes too far someone gets hurt. Georgia and Travis have had enough. She's lost visitation with her granddaughter and great-grandson and Travis is running against her for her council seat. She needs to change her ways before it's too late and she loses everything.

This series isn’t remarkable but still enjoyable. The characters are family by now and I love the setting. I'm invested in the inn. I like the brevity of the books and the low drama. And I like that they are feel good without being preachy.

Things ramp up in this addition to the Blackbird Beach series as Georgia, family, and friends work to get the inn ready to open in December and recover from the hurricane. But there are lots of side issues to deal with as handyman and Georgia's soon to be boyfriend Travis runs for councilman against his ex-mother-in-law Lavinia. Bad things are happening, and it looks like she may be behind them. I am continuing to enjoy this series with a wonderful Gulf front setting and great characters that are close and united working together. I like the fact that chapters are small and each new book flows from the last scene of the previous book to the first scene of the next. For this reason, I would recommend reading in order.

Enjoyed this book enough that I immediately jumped into listening to all 8 books in series. These are fun short Audiobooks that I got from Audible Plus catalog.

The plots developed characters and story lines with the ending of one book leading directly to the next book.

In book 1 Georgia inherits a Gulf coast cottage, just as she was needing a fresh start in middle of divorce from her cheating husband, nd we meet Travis the handyman. Then we meet her daughter Mia, who is also looking for a new start after her fiancé is caught cheating with her future brides maid.

In this book we are introduced to new characters and secrets.

I'm not sure how I'm going to separate the reviews or if I will.

Gulf Coast Moonlight (Blackbird Beach Series Book 5)

Gulf Coast Moonlight (Blackbird Beach Series Book 5) ~ Gulf Coast Moonlight is absolutely beautiful — soft, reflective, and full of heart. Georgia’s growth really shines here as she learns more about herself and what true happiness means. The moonlit nights and gentle tone made this one feel like a quiet hug for the soul.
There’s something magical about Maggie Miller’s writing — it makes you slow down, breathe, and savor the little moments.
I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t wait to start on the next book. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself — you won’t regret it.

Books end but the story doesn't

I've now read the 5th in the series. I tend to like books with several characters in a series, but I'm getting a little weary of this one. The author keeps introducing new characters but never really resolves any conflicts of the existing characters. Instead of ending with a HEA, it ends with a new drama -- much like a TV series. Right now there are 3-4 unresolved crushes/relationships. I like books with endings, so I'm not sure how much longer I will read this series since there's no end in sight.

The story continues…

As Georgia and her family continue to prepare for the opening of the Sea Glass Inn in this installment if the ongoing story, they are dealing with a “curse” put on the inn by Georgia’s late aunt’s nemesis. I’m loving this on-going saga! Each book wraps up one facet of the story while leading into the next one. It’s definitely a series one should read in order, and is one I’m very much enjoying!

Just finished book 5, Gulf Coast Moonlight. This was another great read. So much is really starting to come together for Georgia on the inn. Lavinia is up to something, but when isn't she. I love reading about Travis and Georgia. What does the future hold for them? The ending shocked me as well as Samantha. What will Sam do now? Time to start book 6, Gulf Coast Promises. Thank you Maggie Miller for such a great series.

Book 5 of 8 in the Blackbird Beach series. These books should not be read as stand alones. Each book ends in a cliffhanger so you can't wait to read the next book in the series. The plot is good and each book seems to have a new character added to the group of wonderful characters. In this book we see just how mean and hateful that the ex mother-in-law can be. She has been a thorn in Georgia and Travis side throughout the series.

With each of these books, the characters are more endearing and familiar. I love the beach, the idea of a bed and breakfast on the beach and nightly walks in the waves and sand. Seasons are changing in the series, and while some things are working out well, other problems are always popping up. It's life lived vicariously through these characters--Georgia, Mia, Lilly, Travis, Griffin, Chloe, Samantha, Clayton, and others. Good, quick summer read.

Anot.her great story continued

This I think might teach a lesson in how being devious, deceitful, and dishonest can hurt others and ultimately hurt yourself. I’m looking to finding out if this person finally realizes that life is better if we are kind, honest and a good neighbor. That you can be rewarded for this kind of behavior by the happiness you experience.

I had never read anything by Maggie Miller but have to say that I really enjoyed the series Blackbird Beach and read all the books right in a row. Any story set up on the beach on the Gulf Coast of FL where Georgia Carpenter inherits a run down cottage from her great aunt has to be good. The books continue with other members of Georgia's family and friends from Blackbird Beach.

Narrators continue to stay the same in each Book. It’s so refreshing to continue to hear the same voices. You automatically know which is talking. It’s difficult to find a series that does that.
This book got really chaotic. Too much is happening. Sabotage, love, family, competition and a spell????!!!!lllll
This story continues to unfold ..

Lavinia does not like how things are going: the return of the Inn to being open, her granddaughter calling her bluff, losing her power over the people of the town. After she has a local "witch" throw a spell over the Inn, killing flowers and nearly killing Georgia's sister Lilly from a gas leak. Sam finds a job to help earn her own way and return to school at the beginning of the next semester.

I’m listening to the entire series on audible. The books aren’t remarkable but still enjoyable. I like the setting and the inn aspect. The characters are ok, likable and familiar at this point. The narration is a little annoying with mispronounced names and words. But the short books are great for bolstering my 2023 reading list! Lol

This series is the perfect beach read. I'm rooting for Georgia and her family to get the inn up and rolling. I like how the relationship between her and Travis is evolving. My only critique is that the books always leave us hanging on, having to read the next one to find out what happens. FYI: I've just order books 6-8!

love coffee!

Coffee is a great add to the characters in this book serial. He adds more reality to the Inn as a business not a home. I am glad Sam got her chance to set the record straight with her lying grandmother. But will it change anything. But it did but that is in the next book.

Nice book

I’m on my fifth book of the blackbird Beach series. I like the characters at times are a little too wholesome and a little to altruistic. Not fond of the church references however I’m glad there’s not graphic sex or violence in these books making them just relaxing toread. Definitely worth a read.
