Equal parts character-driven and action. The apocalypse begins ...

In the near future, Coastal Wilmington, North Carolina stands at the crosshairs. The economy struggles. A flu pandemic spreads. Authorities assert crazies popping up all over town are on a new designer street drug akin to bath salts and flakka.

Twenty-eight-year-old Phebe Marcelino obsesses over her forensic anthropology PhD and her academic career. She has no time for viral videos on “Real Zombies of the South” or rumors about government cover-ups. When one roommate falls sick and the other is attacked by vaccinated rabid dogs, Phebe remains unalarmed. There’s a logical explanation for all of it, and it’s not damn “zombies.”

ATF closes in on decorated former Staff Sergeant Sullivan. Everyone else got on with their lives after the wars, but he’s getting into trouble. When Sully rescues a screaming Millennial guy from a turned-over hatchback surrounded by foaming-at-the-mouth, possessed-looking people, he thinks the zombie apocalypse has come. Hopefully, since he kills them.

Time to be a guns-blazing hero to save the people he loves. Or end up in prison.

Former US Army 75th Rangers, a wounded warrior Delta sniper, and Marines-turned-cops band together. The combat is like nothing they have seen before. And their own military never tried to kill them in the past. Only their training and teamwork can get them out of the hot zone.

As Phebe and her roommate are forced from their home, they cross a chaotic martial law city to reach the war vets. Phebe must learn to fire a gun and do the Kill. Their lives depend on her survival instinct and strength. You never know what you’re made of until tested.

Adult language, gritty military banter humor, and a lack of Political Correctness.

EXTINCTION LEVEL EVENT, the love child of Contagion and Black Hawk Down meets 28 Weeks Later at a Monty Python festival.

What Readers

“Speaking as a cynical old soldier and not picking fool, all I can say about this book is it rock hard and I cannot wait to see the sequel. Most of these types of books are boring and derivative - not this one.”

“I started this book at 10 pm and read til it was finished at 4 am! Great characters, fast action and I love the zombie twist!”

“This series so far is freaking amazing. I love the characters and action. The dialogue is outstanding! Love the banter and any issues so far have been extremely realistic. An original take on the end, standing out from other virus stories for sure. Looking forward to the next book!”

In the continuation of the viral apocalypse, Book Two, Holding Ground takes up after the outbreak. Phebe Marcelino and the group hold their ground in the fenced-in marina. Their group dynamics shift. Unable to escape due to the quarantine zone enforced by the Coast Guard and Navy, they loot stores, joke on each other, and ransack other boats. Leader Peter Sullivan faces a new retired Baby Boomers. Phebe learns a new skill as she’s thrown into the deep end of the fight.

Old enemies reappear in a military Humvee.

Three days, nine meals, as previous catastrophes in the US show – post-Katrina New Orleans – law-abiding people leave their homes to loot. No help is coming. The ex-Rangers and former-Marines rise to become unconventional heroes of locals.

R140 waves through in a viral burn. As old infected turn into something reminiscent of George Romero shuffling living dead. But fast runner newly infected rise.

The Pentagon comes after the survivors because the numbers say to wipe them all out within the Red Zone. But is too late to contain R140?

While I already read books 1-4, I thought a quick reread of the first two books was in order before book 5 was released. This series is even better on the second read! I highly recommend this series .
