I should have kept my distance like my older brother warned. Now I’m alone as my little secret sleeps in my arms.
Jackson, my older brother’s best friend. And my secret crush since my tag-along tomboy days. Sinfully sexy, deliciously gorgeous and mega rich. Completely off-limits to me.
I’m warned to stay away from his womanizing ways. But how can I resist when Jackson’s player head spins his attention to me?
One fake date turns into a passionate romance. The way he holds me in his strong arms and whispers sweet nothings in my ear keeps me going back for more. I’m floating on air and I’m having the time of my life. Until I’m not.
One small accident and my world comes crashing down. I can’t tell my brother, I’m pregnant with his best friend’s baby. And, I sure as hell can’t tell playboy Jackson he’s about to become a daddy.
I’ve got myself in a real mess. Like a coward, I pack up and run. But some secrets can’t be hidden forever.
DNF!!!! Ok I tried to like this book! I tried to finish it! But at 55% I was literally scanning paragraphs to get to any part that would make me want to read about these characters. Guess what, there weren't any!!! Initially I thought this story was a bit strange with several different story types, the writing didn't quite flow smoothly and to be honest the characters lacked well, character! Is this a best friends sister romance? Is this a "mafia" type romance? Is it a friend's to lovers romance? Well throw all of that and the kitchen sink into this book and you'd still be asking yourself WTF am I reading!?!? The main characters do not communicate well with each other out of the bedroom, then at the half way mark Maya turns into a TSTFL female lead!!! Jackson and Vince best friends? Really!?! With friends like that you don't need enemies! At the half way mark in a book if you still don't really know the characters, you start skipping pages and paragraphs to avoid throwing your kindle and you literally want to throttle both main characters then it's time to do a DNF! Save yourselves time wasted and aggravation and skip this book! I'm truly astonished at all the high star reviews! Free with K.U. And still to high a price! Kudos to the author for writing a book and putting her imagination out there, this just wasn't for me!
This is Maya and Jackson’s story. It explains a great deal from the first book I read, which was about Vince and Tiff. Maya and Jackson had grown up together albeit ten years apart. You see Jackson was her brother’s best friend. You would never believe that if you observed Vince’s behavior throughout most of the book directed squarely at Jackson. All he did was push his fame further and further away. Yet, maybe that was his plan along.
After years of raising his sibling, and doing some very shady things to provide for them, he and Jackson are running a very legitimate real estate business now. No longer doing shady deals, right? However, now that all his siblings are grown, he still tries to rule them with an iron fist. Both men are trying to run their private businesses and lives cleanly.
As time has progressed turns into the work-a-holic when Jackson was able to save and invest his money as a kid, Vincent need his money to provide for his siblings and mom after his father was gone. But, when Jackson’s dad ended up with gambling debts he could no longer pay, Jackson was and in turn, it pulls Vince back in too. With the understanding once the debt is paid in full, they are out...
During which time Maya show to have a meeting with Jackson not only valuing his opinion but the man as well. Considering she has been in love with him since she knew that men and women could date. She is intercepted by the most irate, loud, and unreasonable men she's ever known. Yup! You got it, Vince. Pretty much dragging her from the building. See how Jackson, and she connects.
This book has a lot of serious and funny moments. There are those unpredictable emotional moments that catch you off guard. The characters are loving, yet irrational. They are readable, but at the same time, they are like bombs. You are unsure of the way, they will go off. Well worth, the read.
I received a free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. This is my own opinion and was not influenced by anyone.
Maya has her own business. She invented a dating app with her best friend Tiffany. She has the idea to go see her childhood crush and brother's best friend Jackson. She asks Jackson, the resident playboy, to go 30 dates in 30 days as publicity stunt for the app. They would live blog the dates. He agrees.
Jackson is a partner with Vince, Maya's oldest brother, in a real estate business. Jackson noticed Maya when she came home from college but was quickly shut down by Vince. Vince and Jackson have been a runner for a mobster since they were kids and are now doing money laundering begrudgingly. Vince used the money to support his 3 siblings and Jackson has been paying for his dad's gambling debt.
When one of Jackson's 30 dates stands him up, Maya steps in. Flirting during the date, both see what could be and perhaps a glimmer of desire in the other's eyes. Things move rapidly for the couple, all the while keeping their romance a secret especially from Vince.
This is where things get complicated. I love Jackson. He is a wonderful partner despite his womanizing reputation. He knows how to communicate. He's not perfect and struggles with a few issues but he is definitely more forthcoming than Maya. Maya, on the other hand waffles to tell him her big secret. She got me crazy and I was yelling at the page for her to TELL HIM.
The plot overall was a fun read. It pulls in mobsters, blackmail, and secrets. Not sure if this will be a series but there are a few people that would be possible future books. My Forbidden Date by Tara Brent is a standalone romance that deserves a read.
Jackson and Vince are in over their heads, Jackson his paying off his father's gambling debts and Vince his best friend and partner has been taking care of his brothers and little sister for a long time and will continue to do so but he wants to get out because their real estate business is legitimate but their other businesses are in question. Maya is everything that Jackson ever wanted in a woman when he saw she came home on break from college and he noticed how nicely she filled out but Vince told him to stay away from her because of what they're into. Maya has always been in love with Jackson but the first time she was interested in a boy Vince is always there running them off, so she has to be creative but since she has finished college and back home working she and her friend Tiffany are creating a dating app and once they get the social media attention they need they will have choices, she loves what she does and knows that future is going to be bright she is hoping that if she asks Jackson if he will help and he agrees they can get to app off and running, Vince has other ideas and Maya doesn't let that stop her until she is in a situation that she assumes Jackson is not interested in and decides to move to the West Coast. This is their story and it was written very well and the characters are intriguing. Fun, drama, suspenseful romance. I was given an ARC via BookFunnel without obligations. I volunteered an honest review.
Maya, 25, has developed a dating app and asks her brother’s best friend, Jackson to help her with publicity by agreeing to 30 dates that she sets up with women for coffee. Jackson, 35, grew up with Maya and her older brother and now has his own you tube channel and has a rich and successful real estate business With her brother.. However, as a kid he made very questionable deliveries for his dad and still is doing questionable things to pay of gambling debts for his ill dad. When one of the 30 dates doesn’t show up Maya is forced to take her place and they become even more attracted to each other even though Jackson agreed to her brother’s demand that he and Maya not hook up. Will they both stop fighting their attraction and end up romantically involved despite the objections of her overly protective brother.
I give this story 4.5 stars. Jackson had many issues that dated back to his childhood but he had become very successful and he was still trying to protect his father. Maya has been attracted to Jackson for years and now that he was helping her with her business they were growing closer. However, there were bad people around Jackson who might keep him from him from finding happiness with Maya. The epilogue was a good ending for their story. I received an ARC fro the author and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
Maya and Jackson have the odds stacked against them from the start. Over protective brother, brother's best friend, shady past intertwining into the present, on top of a steller reputation as a ladies man, the odds didn't go in either of their favors.
Until the date stand up for a promotion for Maya and Tiffany's app, Cutemeet. To save the live streaming slot, Maya stands in and the sexual tension is palpable between her and Jackson. The journey takes off from there, leaving New York and traveling to California and then back again, in a whirlwind of twists and turns, moments where you want to reach into the pages and strangle the characters, to the "its about time" moments that lead to the very end.
Overall I enjoyed the concept of the story, the characters were thought out and were developed. My only complaint would be that there is no leading clues as to time lapses that take place throughout the story. More than once I found myself thinking I missed a page or two, and back tracking only to find out that I was reading it correctly there was just a lack of transitions to let the reader know that time had infact elapsed. Other than that I would definitely recommend this to others.
I received this book as an ARC for free in exchange for my honest review.
Jackson & Vince have been runners for the mafia for years in money laundering & now the mafia want to use their real estate business as a front. Maya has created a dating app & has recruited her brother's best friend to be the candidate to date 30 women (1 per day over lunch) to see who he will choose as his girlfriend. Very entertaining read to see how each date goes & of Maya's feelings towards him, wishing it was she who was his date ... until it happens & she fills in on a date who is a no-show. Vince is her brother & he told Jackson when they were teenagers that his sister was off-limits. Now that Maya's turned out to be a gorgeous babe, the temptation is too great & the secret hook-up's start without Vince knowing until he's fully aware of what's going on. Now Jackson has the mafia as well as Vince after him on two different scenarios which he needs to come clean in order to win Maya & have their HEA.
Well-worth reading as there is danger, romance, humor & everything else in-between!
I volunteered to read this ARC & leave an honest review.
I love secret pregnancy romances, this was just not good. I think was 20 mins till the end and couldn’t bring my self to finish, it was that bad. The h was so naive and no character growth in the beginning she giggled so much for a mature 25yr old business woman it was annoying. Then she’s in a relationship with a man for months gets pregnant and runs away. Her reasoning was off but I kind of got it I guess. Then okay let’s do math....she’s maybe 1 month pregnant when she figures it out, leaves a week later and then it jumps to the H coming to visit her when the baby is 4 months old and he still believes they are together??!!! He didn’t visit her once in over a year?! Yeah not realistic. And then she takes weeks WEEKS to tell him he’s the father then of course he’s upset but when he finally goes to reconcile she all but demands an apology from HIM. Yeah I was out! Not good, had potential but was not a good read overall.
Maya and Jackson grew up together, he is her older brother, Vincents, best friend, and business partner, and her child hood crush. Jackson and Vincent have been working for the mob since they were young boys and are trying to get out, their real-estate business is legitimate and thats what they want. Maya and her best friend Tiff started a dating app, and as a publicity stunt they ask Jackson for help...30 coffee dates with 30 women, but when one of the dates is a no show, Maya steps in...this is where Jackson starts flirting with her, and shortly after they start seeing eachother, behind her brothers back... Tara Brent has created well developed characters and a great story line. From page 1 I was hooked. I definitely recommend this book. This is a stand alone book, with no cliff hangers.
I received a copy of this book free from the author as an ARC read and give my honest review.
I love a good brothers best friend romance and My Forbidden Date did not disappoint. It provides lots of angst, sexy times, illegal activities, over protective brothers, a sweet baby boy and a wonderful HEA. Maya and Jackson grew up together but with a 10 year age difference neither felt the other could want them as much as the other did, plus Maya has an over the top over protective brother that just won't give up. Through Maya's business the two become closer and until Maya finds out she is expecting Jackson's baby then up and moved without telling him things were looking promising. So much drama happens, so many lies & secrets are told in this story but it keeps the storyline moving and you won't want to stop reading until you hit "The End." I truly enjoyed My Forbidden Date and hopefully will be reading a book about Vincent and Tiffany (Maya's brother and her best friend) very soon!
This is definitely a book that grabbed my attention from the start and had me hooked till the end. Maya and Jackson have known each since they were kids. He is Maya's brother Vinces's best friend. Despite the ten year difference there is a strong attraction between the two. So much so that Maya becomes pregnant with his child and leaves and doesn't tell him. With all the drama, secrets, and lies there is a bumpy road ahead as they face misunderstandings due to miscommunications before they reach their happy ending. It's a well-written story with a smooth storyline and twists that will keep you turning the pages. I enjoyed this book and am happy to recommend it.
I was gifted an advanced reader's copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Another great story from the talented Tara... I won't go into the story which has been covered in the blurb & many previous reviews. A compelling page turner that included criminal activities, some ugly folk, not only the bad guys , there were a few female uglies too. There was a building attraction & some off the charts sexual encounters, family drama, a critically ill father & an unexpected baby, the image of his father that was not aware of his existence initially. Intricately crafted, edge of the seat wondering which way things would go & then happy sighs when everyone comes clean & they can now get on with their lives. Relief & healing. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.
Maya needs help with her dating app. She gets Jackson her brother’s best friend to go on 30 dates in 30 days to help promote her dating app. Maya has had a crush on Jackson years and when she ends up filling in on one of the dates sparks fly. As they fight their attraction to each other they end up hooking up and their are consequences. Maya struggles with her insecurities about Jackson. Will Maya tell him the consequences of that night? This story was an enjoyable read. There is blackmail, secrets- old & new, drama, internal struggles, and of course the mob is involved. Will a HEA even be possible for them? I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving an arc copy for an honest review.
Finally Making It Real - The only thing going through my head as I turned the pages, was that I hoped Jackson and Maya would get their happily ever after. I loved every second reading the story, as it kept me on the edge of my seat with each page turn, trying to anticipate what going to happen next. Tara Brent did an exceptional job with the character development and the storyline, which ensured I was hooked from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it and I know you will surely enjoy reading the book too.
I received a copy of this ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well Infound this to be an interesting and enjoyable read. Right from the very first page I was hooked. Maya and her best friend developed a dating app but they need a way to get people to sign up. Maya came up with the idea for her childhood friend Jackson to go on a first date with a different girl for a month. That is basically what happens in the first few pages and I bet you are wondering what could go wrong with that plan. To find out what happens you are going to have to read it. Chemistry and interaction between the characters is outstanding. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
I really loved this story. Maya and Jackson are very interesting characters. Maya is Vince's younger sister, who is Jackson's best friend and partner, she has always had a crush on Jackson, but her brother has always pushed them away. When she returns from college, Jackson immediately notes her, but stays away because Vince asks. What would be just a date, ends up becoming something more serious between them, but when Maya finds out that she's pregnant, she decides to run away so as not to have to deal with her brother and Jackson. I loved the story and the characters. I highly recommend the reading.
My Forbidden Date. This book was interesting. It focuses on Maya and her dating app. She talks her brother's best friend, Jackson, into going on several dates but he got stood up and decided he would choose Maya as his date even though he was forbidden to date Maya by her brother. Things get heated because Maya has a crush on Jackson and unbeknownst to Maya, Jackson wants her as well. The start a secret affair that leads to bigger issues when Vince learns the truth and Maya reveals her secret. The story is a little slow but eventually turns exciting through to the end. ***I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s. * * *
Good romance, but sometimes a little melodramatic 4.5 It's a good romance with Maya and Jackson, good characters whose possible relationship is troubled by the hero Jackson's criminal past, and Maya's brother. The story is divided into 2 parts, the second of which is a little more melodramatic than the first, but it remains romantic, tender and a hot one. I understand Maya's character, but at the same time, her decisions have often annoyed me. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Maya had a crush on Jackson since she first noticed boys. Jackson was warned of her by Vince her brother and his best friend. They have a shady past and don’t want her mixed up in it. Jackson helps her out with an app she created and they start a relationship . They both have secrets that could rip them apart. I was hooked on the book, rooting for them one minute and wanting to smack their heads together the next. Well written and great characters and plot.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review
Good story. I liked that Maya had her own business and was independent. She and her friend/business partner Tiff were pretty funny. Her relationship with Jackson, moving from childhood crush to adults, was well done. I did get a little tired of Maya agonizing over telling Jackson her secret, on and on. Will I? Won’t I? But I liked how the ending tied up the loose threads.
I received a free Advance Review Copy and this is my voluntary review.
Maya is running a dating app with her best friend. She needs to try it out and she goes to Jackson her brother best friend. He’ll do 30 dates. But the fun only begins when his date doesn’t show up and maya has to go in her place! Hot chemistry is fling off the charts between these two and now they have to keep it a secret from her brother! What a fantastic read! This will warm your heart! I received a free arc for an honest review.
This steamy story is about Maya and her brother’s best friend Jackson. She’s loved him forever and they finally have a steamy connection. This lands her with a secret that causes her to run. Jackson isn’t ready to give up on her now that he knows she’s all that he wants. However Jackson’s life is not really set up for a family so he needs to make some choices. This story is so steamy and so good.

When you are young and look up to you brother and his friends, there is always one who really connects with you. Years later, you aren’t that bratty younger little sister anymore, but a knockout, and a looker.will your brother ever quit thinking his best friend isn’t good enough for you? Time will tell, certainly people change, as does attitudes. Great story, loved it.❤️
I absoulutely loved the dual, first person point of view of the story, which is always a deal breaker for me. I really liked the hero, Jackson and for me it has to be a guy that determines whether or not I like the story and I really loved his voice and his thoughts were amazing and made me laugh. I received an ARC copy of this book through Bookfunnel in exchange for an honest voluntary review.
An exciting fun well written romance. This intriguing storyline was full of loyalties, drama, deception, suspense, fun, secrets, in a steamy action romance. The characters are interesting with undeniable attraction and sizzling chemistry to a great HEA to their story. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC.
Ok so this is a pretty good read. I actually loved it till we miss a year and I got so mad at the main character. I will be honest and say that I have a pet peeve and this book gave me anxiety. It doesn’t mean it’s not worth the read, it just wasn’t for me. It does have a happy ending.
I enjoyed Jackson & Maya's book. Good characters. There's a lot of stuff going on in this one to keep things interesting. Great book. I received a free copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this book and liked the story line. It seemed just like every day life and we were part of it. Through all the secrets, misunderstandings things worked out in the end.
If you want a romance book that’s going to give you the most...this is the book for you! All the characters are interesting and the story has a great plot. You’ll get your happily ever after and some drama too. Oh and can’t forget the romance. All in all good story!
