IN FOR A PENNY When Lillian Summer Fairview’s husband up and dies on her, it leaves the last living member of the most prestigious family in Summer Shoals, Georgia, in a hot money mess. Desperate to keep up the family name and give the man a decent burial, penniless Lil makes a shady deal that lands her smack-dab in the slammer.
Burdened by her shameful secret and a crumbling family estate, Lil entrusts Summer Haven’s care to her best friend, Maggie, who recruits two more over-fifty ladies to help. But when Maggie discovers that Lil’s restitution is ten times the amount she “borrowed” from the federal government, she’s convinced Lil has taken the fall for someone else’s crime.
Will these gals be able to prove Lil was duped, or will the swindler get away with hoodwinking a sweet little old lady?
COLLARD GREENS & CATFISHING Southern matriarch Lillian Summer Fairview is settling right nice into prison, until Big Martha, the toughest broad on the cellblock, comes asking for a favor. Her niece has fallen for a guy she met online, and Martha’s convinced Mr. Too-Good-To-Be-True is up to no good. All Lil’s friends have to do is check out the guy and report back.
Already tied up with a cantankerous septic system on Lil’s family estate, the grannies don’t have time for another investigation. If Summer Haven isn’t in shipshape before the historic society’s inspection, they’ll be in deep you-know-what. But Big Martha is as persuasive as she is tough, and when the gals poke around, they find the guy doesn’t really exist.
Will they be able to track down the elusive Romeo in the scam-filled world of online dating, or will they find themselves in trouble right up to their granny panties?

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books. They were delightful, easy reading and made me think of satire of Fern Michaels’ sisterhood series. A group of older women sort of fall into illegal activities and use their talents to find the perpetrators. The third book disappointed me completely. It’s a sappy romance with precious little mystery. Lil and Martha don’t even appear in it. Even the recipes at the end were disappointing.
I skipped 1 as I've read it before. 2 is pretty good but has a mildly hooky ending. 3 ignores the end of 2 and is lacking in mystery. It's really just a romance in same world, so don't expect a cozy. I do like the quirky characters.
I believe this is my first book by this author. 4 elderly ladies are involved in figuring out who is the villain in the town is. The villain did surprise me so that is a plus.
No romance involved, no lovemaking, some crude language and Lord's name used. Some mystery and funny dialogue. Easy reading story and some things not solved in this story.
COLLARD GREENS AND CATFISHING - 2.25 STARS
This story was so hard to get into. It talked mostly about fixing the septic system and the crud they had to walk through. Another part featured the elderly lady who owns the house. She is in prison and she needs the help of friends to keep upkeep on her house and help another prisoner in jail with a problem.
It was very slow at times, with some villain that was cheating women. That part of the story was wrapped up quickly. The reason was very lame why the villain did what he did.
You get crud talk, no romance, HEA and no sex.
3. CHRISTMAS COOKIES AND A CONFESSION - 3.5 STARS
What was unique about this, on several chapter's you could click on a sexy version with language and actions would be more graphic. I didn't do that, so this is on the somewhat clean version.
This is number 3 of this series, and you still are left hanging about Lillian who is still in prison. Interesting and unique character's. We finally discover why the H/h broke up 10 years ago.
Sweet simple story with only a few kinks along the road to HEA. (ljb)
I enjoy reading book sets. Reading one right after another keeps my mind on current reading. Otherwise I am trying to remember characters. These are the type of books I enjoy for light reading. There is no super sleuthing needed - just sit back, read and relax. Enjoy your time away from your hectic world.
I absolutely love this three book set of cozy mysteries. When these senior ladies decide to try to a crime or three they become heroes of their home town. Laugh out loud hilarious and great fun to read. I highly recommend this box set!
Thanks so much for this wonderful southern escape. Love the Georgia gang and all the love of family and friends. Diving into mystery these amateur 50+ ladies are a fantastic team. Have to read the next one now. Keep em coming.
These delightful stories are seasoned with spunky Southern characters. Being amateurs does not stop these characters from tackling the small town mysteries. Be prepared to laugh.
Summer Shoals. Learn to expect the unexpected. This was a set of the first 3 books, and I enjoyed them, could relate to some of the situations. If you get the chance give it a try.
A fun cozy series of mystery, with Miss Lillian, Maggie, Sera and handsome cop, Teague. Saving an old plantation house investigating crimes it’s a fun filled ride.
These books are the best cozy mysteries ever! Humor, mystery & romance fit the bill. The senior ladies are always getting themselves into trouble. The southern sleuths know how to solve a mystery & the characters are funny, charming & lively.
If you like reading good stories this is a good way to spend your time. This set had good stories great characters and all the my you want plus some romance thrown in. Give it a try it will be worth it.
This is a good set of mysteries. I enjoyed each one. And there are good recipes at the end of each. The three Southern ladies are fun and adventurous amateur sleuths. I highly recommend these books.
This is a very good book to read. Great stories with mystery and comedy all wrapped into one. Made you want to continue reading to see what mischief the older women were going to get into next.
All three of the books are very well written and interesting. The characters are well drawn. The stories follow each other developing each character as they go.
