Redemption seeker. Chameleon. Damaged heart.

By day, Rocky Jacobs is a private investigator. By night, he produces Sinister in Savannah, a true-crime podcast, with his two best friends. Rocky’s life revolves around three principles: possessing skill is better than having luck, a man’s reputation is everything, and there’s no sacrifice too great for those you love.

Is Tess Hamilton pretty poison or just unlucky in love?

That’s the question the trio of trouble will try to uncover. This investigation strikes a little too close to home for one of them. Tess, a woman accused of killing her three husbands, has been tried and convicted in the media, something Rocky knows all too well. When their investigation turns up nothing but dead ends, Rocky will keep digging. Is it because he believes in her innocence? Or does Rocky hope to find redemption for himself by achieving it for Tess?

A stagnant case turns out to be the least of his problems.

What happens in Vegas never truly stays stay there. For fifteen months, Rocky has been running from a tragedy that shattered his life and countless others. The most painful casualty was the destruction of his marriage to Asher Dunleavy. When the sexy federal marshal turns up in Savannah, Rocky is reminded of his greatest love and deepest regret. Every minute spent in Asher’s presence makes him yearn for the life they lost. Will Rocky drown in the sorrows of what might’ve been or fight for what could be?

Sinister in Savannah series is a fictional podcast exploring the city’s most nefarious crimes with Southern-fried snark. The books explore friendship, love, loss, and the irrepressible human spirit. Pretty Poison is book three of three. While each novel is written about a different couple, the series should be read in order due to continuing storylines. Sinister in Savannah is an LGBT romantic suspense series with mature language and sexual content intended for adults eighteen and older.

Trigger warning: the main character struggles with PTSD resulting from an investigation involving a murder-suicide. While the content is not overly graphic, it could still cause emotional harm to some readers. One of Rocky’s side effects is anxiety, which may trigger similar reactions in those battling the disorder. As with the murder-suicide scene, I avoided being too graphic with his attacks.

Stopping @41% because not much has happened romance wise.

There are so many work-related things going on! And the cases are pretty boring to me.
Maybe because I'm not a mystery fan.🤷‍♀️

I think 41% was a good mark to see the shape of this story, but so far it's all vague and superficial with too much going on on the side, things that are not important. A tighter plot might have worked for me, with more focused on the MCs, how they met, why they had to split and so on.

I also think Asher's POV would have helped a great deal here somehow. He was pretty hard to read. I haven't read the other books in the series though. So, it could be my fault for jumping straight into book 3.

Peace! ☮☮

5 “You’re not broken, Ford. The fucking world is.” stars

My current mood:

It’s 4 in the morning and i’m currently writting this while crying over this book, so please don’t expect it to make much sense lol

If there is one thing that I feel can explain how I felt about this book is trying to explain how high my expectations where for this book. I have been dying to read this book since I read Mr. Perfect back in november and got to meet Rocky’s guy. I’m in university and I have four exams next week and yet, I willingly made enough time in my schedule to read it all in one day on release day. My expectations for this book were so fucking high that I was sure I would be a little disapointed by it.... but no, somehow this damn book exceeded my really fucking high expectations.

Brief summary: Rocky is a private investigator and 15 months ago, he was on a case and he witnessed something that left him with PTSD, he’s still dealing with most of the effects of it. Asher is Rocky’s husband, but they haven’t really talked since that day because Rocky keeps distancing himself from Asher. This is the story of them finding their way back together. With a side of the gang investing a crime about a woman that is alleged to have killed her three husbands.

“The past fifteen months have been the worst,” Rocky whispered. “But our dreams weren’t broken.” “Only delayed.” Asher kissed him once more. “Go to sleep, baby. I’ll be here to help you fight all the ghosts,”

First, god this book made me feel so many things. It slowy shatered me, made me cry like 6 times, but also made me so happy and made it all worth it in the end. It was such a journey, one I was so happy to be part in.

Side note here, this one hits so much more when you have read the first two books in this series (even if they are about different couples). This wraps up the series very nicely and it’s such a good end for the series and for our three main guys. It’s just such a good feeling to have been along the ride to see their journey to finding love and hapiness!

Second, I loved Asher, so much. Not only is he really hot (he’s really tall, lots of muscles and he has big thights and he just sounds so damn hot) he was also such a good husband and support system for his husband. He was so supportive and so good to Rocky. I loved how it was portrayed that he wanted Rocky with him but he waiting for Rocky to be ready and he never stopped fighting for his man and for his place at his man’s side. I just loved how he didn’t give up on Rocky and kept fighting for their couple and what they have, even when Rocky wasn’t fighting with him. I just loved him, he was so so good and so understanding.

Third, the description of Rocky’s PTSD, god did I adore it. I loved everything about it. I loved how it showed that Rocky went to therapy to try and feel better because nothing else worked. The descriptions of his PTSD felt so damn realistic, expecially his guilt over what happened that wouldn’t leave him and how he lept punishing himself for the events. All of it just felt so realistic. I also loved how we got to see all sides of his PTSD from how he forgot things to all of the guilt he felt, to the nightmares, to the flashbacks, to how scared he was, to his erectile dysfunction. I really loved how it was all included and how it was described. Also I loved how it showed that things won’t magically fix itself and that you have to work for what you want and that you have to want to make a change or nothing will work.

Fourth, normally I would have been mad at Rocky because he pushed his man away and didn’t really communicate with him, but the descriptions of his PTSD and the effects of the events on him was so well done that it was easy to see that he punished himself for the events and didn’t feel like he was worthy of Asher. Rocky had so much guilt over what happened and blamed it all on himself. All of it was so beautifuly described and shown that it was easy for me to understand Rocky’s actions and I couldn’t help but feel for him because it all felt so realistic and his actions made so much sense when you understand how he was feelings and his thoughts.

Fifth, I loved Rocky and Asher together, so so good. They were such a good couple and they fit perfectly together. I just adored how they found their way back together. Everything about it was so just perfect. I loved how they formed an even better bound than they had before and how they rediscovered each other. Also I loved how they understood that communication is really important and how they talked about everything. I loved how they faced the problems head on and fought them as a couple. I also loved how Asher showed Rocky that sex isn’t everything and how important intimacy is, it was just so lovely. I also loved how they kept feeding food to each other, it was just so adorable. I just adore these guys together, so much.

Sixth, as always, I loved the side characters so much. I loved Rocky’s grandma. I still very much love Jonah and Felix. And Marla, god do I love Marla, so much. She’s just one of the best character ever.

Seventh, as much as I loved seeing them piecing together the crimes in the previous books, this one was less about the crime and I was really happy about it. It worked so well here. This book was mostly just about overcoming your past and learning to live after an event that changed you and healing from your past, and damn was so it perfect that way.

I’m sad that this series is done now, but i’m so happy that we are getting more books in this world. And we’re getting more Royce and Sawyer, which i’m so fucking excited about, god do I love these two so much!

Yep. This was just as fantastic as I thought it would be.

I was not sure what to expect of Rocks book. He's been somewhat of a mystery throughout the whole series. What we actually got was sweet and tender and so full of feelings I wasn't sure what to do with them.

I won't go too much into the actual events of this book, you'll have to find that out for yourself but i can say that Rock and Asher was fantastic together.

The mystery plot was a little more on the backside in this book and I think it was exactly what was needed for Rocks story to be properly told.

Kudos to the author for how she handled ptsd. It felt very real and believable.

What made me the most happy though was the authors note that this is not the end even though it's the end of the series. I can't wait!

Another good addition to the series! Loved Rocky’s story - his journey of recovering through trauma and ptsd was so well done and nice to read. Really enjoyed the romance too.

This book did have several plot lines in it and at times they all felt disjointed and patched together and the transition from one plot to the next was a bit abrupt but I still really overall enjoyed.

OMG so good, definitely my favourite of this quite brilliant series.

With Rocky, Aimee has created a full-fleshed out complex and complicated man who sometimes gets in his own way but who I absolutely understood and empathised with.

He's dealing with not only a traumatic incident, but with the insidious poison of his husband's best friend's manipulations and more than a year after he ran out on their marriage, he's still dealing with the aftermath.

When Asher turns up in Savannah, looking to reclaim his husband as well as move on with his career as a US Deputy Marshall, it acts as a catalyst for Rocky to begin to take a look at how he's not been dealing with the fallout of a private investigation which went horrifically wrong.

Asher was such a wonderful guy. He's determined but never overrides Rocky's fears and anxieties. Through Rocky's POV, we see a strong, principled man who will do anything for the guy he loves.

The case which this installment is built around was also a fascinating one, for a long time I wasn't sure where it was going to go and I was surprised by the outcome, which I felt was completely within keeping of both the characters involved and the overall situation.

There are moments of levity as well to break up the sorrows and the levels of anxiety and PTSD which Rocky is facing and I think it was pitched just right.

And, as ever, there is the wonderful friendship at the heart of this series between the three men who run the Sinister in Savannah Podcast.

Plus, the rock at the centre of it all is still Miss Marla, who is with no shadow of doubt one of the best characters to have come out of Aimee's wonderful imagination.

She is still vivacious, although there is a growing air of fragility about her which had me tearing up on more than one occasion and outright crying during the Live Celebration which is organised at the drag queen diner.

I am sad this initial trilogy has ended, but so very happy to read there will be more spin-off standalones as a result and that Aimee is intending to go back to where it all began with Royce and Sawyer too 😁

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

This part of the Sinister in Savannah series deals with some very traumatic issues. Rocky suffers from PTSD, the emotional damage he carries from the trauma from a murder-suicide that occurred while he was on a case. That case and all that occurs happens again in the Prologue....so if you haven't read the series in order, you will still have an understanding of what has happened. A word of warning...while it’s not overly graphic, it’s still emotionally disturbing enough to cause distress or harm for those people for whom it’s a trigger and anyone that might feel anxiety. That is what Rocky is also dealing with. In the previous book, Mr. Perfect, we learned of Rocky’s husband and a mention of their Vegas wedding. Now we get to see the events that brought Rocky and his husband together but has devastated their marriage as well as his career. It’s the train wreck of a broken marriage that’s plastered across numerous chapters as we learn bit by bit, everything that tore them apart, just as the current case is bringing them back together. Aimee Nicole Walker does a masterful job of characterization and writing. In between we have the ongoing heartbreak of knowing that Miss Marla is dying, and the community is doing everything they can not to mourn but to cherish each day she remains with them. She’s still the heart of this series and the one the men turn to for hugs, love, irreverent advice, and her amazing casseroles. The case of Tess Hamilton that the men are investigating now is as fascinating as all the others. It’s full of implications, reflections on redemption and forgiveness, along with the ability to recover, heal and move forward. The story is an emotional journey, but an extraordinary story. It’s an incredibly way to wrap up the "Sinister in Savannah" trilogy. Even more so since the author has promised to revisit this universe with stories for characters, we met in each of the three novels who also deserve further attention. I can’t wait. I’m happy to leave the men...their partners and Miss Marla, in Savannah at this point in time. Just want to say that this is a truly amazing series. They should be read in the order as they were written for the characters to appear again in the other books in one way or another.

I loved the hell out of hot beefy US Marshall, Asher.
I wanted to hug all the guilt out of pretty PI, Rocky.
Marla cameos! ❤️💜❤️

This book had less investigation than the previous two in the series, but I enjoyed Rocky’s and Asher’s second chance tremendously!

Best enjoyed as part of the series.

Update: I found another note that I'd saved on my phone! It turns out that a previous book in the series said that Tess Hamilton was dead. Here's the line:
“I think the Tess Hamilton case is interesting,” Rocky said. “She’s suspected of killing all three of her husbands for their insurance money. They could never prove it before she died last year.”
And then the author forgot about it, so she's very much alive in this book. It's not even a case of everyone thinking she was dead. Nope, just a serious continuity error.

*******************************************

This has not been a great series for me. I had mixed feelings about the first book, mostly negative ones about the second, and this one... I'm sure you can guess by the rating. I actually read this book almost three weeks ago. And it was so disappointing that, had I not taken notes for a review (something I rarely do), I might have just pretended that I hadn't read it at all.

Anyway, despite not enjoying the series much, I wanted to give this book a chance, mainly because I thought the Zero Hour series was great. Also, Rocky seemed like an interesting character. And to be fair, there are a couple of scenes here about him and his PTSD that are decent, but they're short and still lacking.

The brief interactions we had between Rocky and Asher in the last book were some of its better parts, but the relationship doesn't live up to its potential. There honestly wasn't much to the relationship. They had a conflict that needed to be addressed, and then it was suddenly gone. Almost as if there never needed to be a conflict at all, but the author needed something to take up space without later having to work for a resolution.

That's almost the exact problem I had with the second book. And we saw some of that in the Zero Hour series as well. Walker frequently introduces plot points to serve her story and then dismissed them without resolution as soon as they're not needed. And that's not how conflicts in books are supposed to be!

But the biggest problem in this book, without a doubt, is the fact that nothing fucking happens! There's so much filler bullshit. Let me give you some examples. And keep in mind, none of this advances the plot.

○ Rocky gets chased by a dog. It starts with him trying to investigate something, but no investigation happens. And yeah, it eventually leads him to Asher. But there had to be a better way to get to Asher, one that didn't waste several pages on nothing!

○ There's a 2-pages scene of Rocky getting drive-thru.

○ Two more pages are spent on Rocky watching birds outside his window.

○ Rocky's normal workday gets described with an unnecessary amount of detail. It's boring.

○ Rocky has lunch with Jonah and Felix. We don't learn anything about them that we don't already know, the scene's not entertaining, and, again, it doesn't advance the plot. Though really, none of the interactions with the other two protagonists of the series accomplished anything. Except maybe making me hate Felix.

Yeah, this is book is like 70% pointless shit with a conclusion shoehorned in at the end, but I'll get to that. First, I wanna mention the Tess Hamilton investigation. Tess is supposedly the "pretty poison" (I'll get to that as well) who may or may not have killed her late husbands. But the book basically forgets about her. She's mentioned a couple of times in the first 70 pages. And then, between pages 70 and 146, nothing to do with the case is ever brought up. That's 76 pages without the main plot! And even after that, nothing remotely significant happens till page 192. And it's not until page 212 that the first case-related interview takes place.

If that makes you think the book doesn't care about its own plot, you'd be correct. I'm pretty sure even the author realized that the book's title didn't have anything to do with the book. So she changed it so that 'pretty poison' was a phrase that was used in the past by the media concerning one of Rocky's old cases (the reason behind his PTSD). Except Rocky was the one who wanted to call the Tess Hamilton series of podcasts pretty poison! Why would he suggest a name with such a bad association? It's like Walker didn't read her own series.

Finally, the conclusion came out of nowhere. Rocky just figured it out on his own, and we didn't get to be a part of the process because that would've actually been interesting. And who would want that when we could be watching fucking birds.

Overall, I hated this book. It bored me and pissed me off. There was nothing romantic, fun or interesting about it. It barely had a plot. The characters weren't bad, but the book never did anything with them. The series just went downhill from an already not-great first book. And though I haven't quite made up my mind yet, if I never read anything else by the author, this is the book you should blame.

More like Pretty Disappointed.

I've been looking forward to this ever since Mr. Perfect when we found Rocky has a HUSBAND.

I've developed a special space for Rocky in my heart. His and Felix's bromance is just...went straight to my soul. Rocky is stoic, calm under pressure, private, doesn't let many people in, but those who are, he's loyal to the bone to them. And then we read about Asher, his almost ex-husband who's a tall, dark, and muscle daddy US Deputy Marshal. In Mr. Perfect, Rocky and Asher's chemistry was just...ouufff

Then this book came out and...nothing. Poof. Chemistry none-existence. The STORY itself is barely there.

Rocky filed for divorce after he experienced a traumatic event and couldn't deal with it while he's with his husband, Asher. Asher himself is loving and patient and tried his best to help Rocky, even recommend therapy, but Rocky wasn't in a place to deal with it.

So Rocky filed for divorce, then 15 months later Asher came to Savannah for work, but also to win back. Asher needs a place to stay for the week and what better place than his husband's house?

The plot idea is a YES. The execution is a NO.

All it took was one day in Asher's presence and Rocky was already falling over himself. We barely experienced any conflict on his part, any "what if" or "I can't". There was no build-up for them to get together. No tug war. No snark. No conflict. No "get away I can't be with you for your own good!" kind of fighting that hides insecurities. Rocky from day 1 wanted Asher, no caps. It was almost anti-climatic how little energy it took for Rocky and Asher to get back together.

Also Asher. What do we even know about him? He was written like a ghost. There was no connection between him and the reader. We didn't have any on-page demonstration of his character. I did not SEE him, he was simply there. Also after a while, I stopped having an interest in him.

The plot itself was a whole lot of nothing. It wasn't boring per se, but there was a lack of drama or mystery up until the very end. I had high hopes that this book will tie up some loose ends from Mr. Perfect, but it was just....bland.

This book had SO much potential. Sooo much stuff I was looking forward to, instead, it was written like those fillers #2.5 novella that is fun to read but don't add to the story.

Nevertheless, I didn't actually hate it, I was just disappointed.

4 Stars!! ❤️ This book was slightly different from the previous two books in the sense that there wasn’t a high danger level in the mystery and the plot was more geared towards Rocky’s PTSD and his story with Asher. The story was certainly more romantic, steamy but also a tad bit more angsty.
Rocky and Asher make a hot couple and Asher really complimented Rocky in so many ways.. their chemistry was both cute and sexy.. 🥰 The mystery was kinda boring 🥱and not really connected to the MCs in any way. I guess I was expecting the thrill level to be the same as the previous books. Nevertheless, I loved the book..😍 Highly recommended! 👍🏻👍🏻

Been waiting for Rocky’s story since first meeting him in the Zero Hour series. It was nice to finally get his backstory and it didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed reading about his story and experiences with PTSD. I enjoyed his relationships with the other guys from the series and seeing their interactions. I found Asher following Rocky to be really romantic and enjoyed them getting together but I felt like something was missing towards the end and maybe Asher’s POV would have helped here.

The mystery wasn’t the same high octane as others in this series, it was pretty tame and there was some other storyline’s that made things feel a bit all of the place at times. There was also quite a few little inconsistencies with this storyline from previous books and I feel like the author had lots of grand plans for this but they didn’t quite come to fruition. Overall I still liked this but it may annoy readers who are more particular than I.

This is the final book of the series and i couldn't help feeling like I got some form of closure after it. I will miss all the characters but I can't help feeling that contentment from finishing a serialised novel. Rocky was suffering from PTSD which puts a lot of challenges in his marriage with Asher. As mentioned in the second book, he left his husband and filed for divorce because he felt he was pulling his husband and marriage down. Asher was just so.. HOT. He did not give up on Rocky and pinned him down and gave so much assurance on their marriage. His persistence was so romantic and I love it! I think the crime solving plot was a bit downplayed in this book as compared with the previous but it was worth it to see how Asher fight for Rocky. This whole series was definitely a constant five stars for me.

Wow, what a beautiful story. It's interesting to me how different each book in this series was from the others. They were not one-size-fits-all by any means and I loved that. It highlighted the differences between these men and made me appreciate their unique friendship that much more.

The event that changed Rocky's life forever was so heartbreaking. I thought the author handled it with the intensity it required and the consideration it deserved. I also loved the way she navigated Rocky's emotional upheaval that resulted from it. It's one thing to flippantly say a character has PTSD, but she took the time to gently lay all of the puzzle pieces out and allowed Rocky to figure out how to mold and fit them together in his own time and in a way that maybe looked different from the picture on the box, but worked for him.

Asher was quite simply perfect for Rocky. It amused me that a story about a married couple was a slow burn romance, but their second chance was an uphill battle and Asher had his hiking boots ready and his patience packed. I felt every denial and dismissal Rocky sent his way. I loved his resolve and his relentless support of Rocky, even when it was at the expense of his heart. But he had really bad taste in best friends.

Since I have already read Bad at Love, I know all about Mr. Kurt Dandridge, but getting to see his tumultuous relationship with veganism first hand made my day. And then there was Marla. Has there been a better side character written ever? I love her so much and do not ever want to attend her funeral. She is the mama bear everyone needs in their lives. My heart won't survive losing her.

The crime fighting and investigating definitely took a backseat in this book, but what there was of it was so good. And the ending - oh god. My poor son wanted to know if he could finish off the popcorn and caught me in a full on ugly cry. I'm so sad this series is over, but am excited to read Royce and Sawyer's new book. They were painfully missing in this one. I kind of wonder if Grant deserves a book of his own? It would be challenging to write, I bet, but I would love to read it.

I've been waiting for Rocky's book since he was first introduced and this book was definitely worth the wait!!!!!

I don't think I've read a book where they are already married from beginning and it's was very interesting, especially how Rocky keeps referring to him as 'my husband'. 😍

Asher is my new favourite! He is so caring and understanding and supportive towards Rocky and I absolutely loved him. Him fighting for Rocky and never giving up is the best thing ever. Rocky and Asher are so damn perfect for each other!!

This is written entirely from Rocky's POV and will be infinitely better if you read the previous two books first. The mystery is much less of a focus compared to the other two but it was better fit for this book.

I loved the secondary characters, Felix, Jonah and Marla of course. Cannot wait to read more books set in this universe, especially looking forward to Dandridge's story and more of Royce and Sawyer!

4.5 stars. Audiobook. Love in all the flavors. Series of three books, different couples, all friends and very much in each others lives. There are individual stories and mysteries in each book but also quite a few storylines that arc through the series. Must be read in order, too many characters to jump into the books alone or out of order. Book one was rough to get through, the narration is not great, if you bump it to 1.35, the accents get more tolerable. Books 2 and 3 are better written and also better narrated, so hang in there and keep going. By the end, there is a rich pool of like-able characters and interesting happenings. They are binge-able, very little recapping and the continuity is great. Would recommend at least reading close together since there are SO MANY characters, you’ll forget who is who by the end and loose some of the impact.

The series is a 4.5 overall. Book one 4 stars behavioral analyst and computer hacker, book two 4.5 stars newspaper reporter and television news anchor. Book three 4.25 stars private investigator and US Marshall.

I think pretty poison suffered from the opposite problem than mr perfect. While mr perfect started a bit cold and took off, this one started up high and then things got solved really easy and neat. I expected a bit more conflict on the climax and the lack of it left me a bit disappointed, though the ending was really sweet.

I’m gutted it’s over. I’ve binge read all three books and have fallen in love with the characters. I’m happy there will be spin offs because Jimmy, Kendall and the goon squad are great guys. The chilli incident was such an aww moment. I hope D finds someone worthy.

There’s a lot going on and a lot of characters to balance. Compared to the first book and Felix’s obsession, the mystery didn’t have as much of an impact. At least not in a physical damage sense.

I thought Rocky’s story was the sweetest. As with the other two, he is his own worst enemy and it’s mainly putting himself back together again. I liked how Asher was even more supportive than Avery and Jude. The guy was just an immovable mountain and together with Fifi, the whole family was adorable.

I liked how Rocky dealt with Tess and the decision he made. I didn’t like how Duggy was dealt with. The man caused so much emotional distress and tore them apart.

There’s still the bromance connection the three main guys have and whereas it did feel like Avery and Jude did have their moments, it felt like they’d become plus ones. As always Marla stole the show. I’m happy how things ended. I’ll likely go back and finish the zero hour series but I’m looking forward to what comes next.

This was my favourite of the three Sinister in Savannah series and that was all down to Rocky. I loved his character and the fact that he had demons but decided to fight them and build what he deserved. Asher was a sweet man fighting for the love of his life and they deserved their second chance.

Thank you Aimee cannot wait for your next book

Yasss!

This was my book of the series. I loved Rocky in the previous books, especially how people kept giving him grief for being so pretty. And when we met Asher in that hilarious situation in Felix's book? I couldn't wait for this one.

Rocky has so much going on that caused him to flee his job and his marriage and land in Savannah. My heart bled for him and what he had been through and I liked a lot how the author handled it all. The relationship between him and Felix was continued and these two are just hilarious. Love their banter.

And Asher. Oh my Asher...

Asher was 🥵. So very, very 🥵
And so damn sweet. And perfect. And cocky. And sexy. And... (you're getting me here right? 🤨). And the twist of when he first met Rocky? The icing on his perfect abs!

Loved it.

I knew I was going to love this one the minute we met Asher in book 2 but didn't quite appreciate how much. He was everything that Rocky needed. I'm so glad that, even though this is the last in the Sinister series, there will be more from Savannah as I'm not ready to give this cast of wonderful characters up just yet.

3.5 again. Seems for me this series was a solid 3.5 across the board.

This book wasn't really a mystery. Like there was one, but it technically only took up maybe 20 pages condensed together. This book was more of a general contemporary about PTSD and trauma. Which is fine, wished for more mystery though.

" There's no squabbling in Daisy's Place unless you're prepared to snag a bitch's wig. You hear me?

God I loved this book. I'd been dying for Rocky's story ever since we got that surprise at the end of Mr. Perfect If you haven't read book two in the series then stop reading right here and go read that one first. It's not necessary per se, but you will get a hell of a lot more enjoyment out of this one by reading that one first...but back to Pretty Poison. I couldn't wait to get more deets on Rocky's mysterious secret hubby. Mr. Flirtatous was married and had been married since before the start of the series. Who woulda thought? And what a husband Asher is.

My heart broke for both Asher and Rocky for different reasons. Rocky for the trauma he had been through which inevitably led him to self-loathing so bad that he fled the man he loved more than anything. Asher for having to see his husband, and the only person who showed him who he truly was and how happy he could be, walk away from their life together. I can't imagine the guilt each of them harbored over not being able to come up with a fix it all for the problems that stemmed from everything that happened to Rocky. Watching the person you love drown in their own emotions and not being able to do anything about it is the definition of torture. Then again, thinking they are thriving without you may be worse.

" I thought you were happily building a new life without me."

"I was building a life without you, but I wasn't happy about it."

It takes a strong man to admit he may not be able to help himself on his own. Seeing Asher again has Rocky taking that first important step by seeking out a therapist, something Asher had begged him to do back when they were living in Vegas. The problem was, Rocky wasn't ready then. It takes time to heal and no one heals at the same speed. It doesn't make you more or less strong. I loved that Asher never threw any " I told you so's " back at him. He was patient and supportive. He trusted Rocky would come back to him because he believed in their relationship and how much they loved each other. That was something that time wouldn't change.

"How much better off would Rocky be if he swapped out what might've been with what could be?"

Rocky and Asher eventually got where they needed to be and it was beautiful seeing them heal together. This story was a bit more serious than usual Aimee Nicole Walker since Rocky was dealing with PTSD, but it still contained plenty of humorous moments to offset the deep parts. It's always fun to catch up with the fabulous Ms. Marla and all the sassy drag queens at Daisy's Place. Not to mention we also get to see a bit of Felix and Jonah with their beau's. It was a great end to the Sinister in Savannah series and I am looking forward to reading about Asher's new partner Kurt finding love. He seemed like such a sweetie and his current man is much too controlling for my liking.

DNF at 65%.
At 40% there was no case, no talk between the MCs, no sex, no story, just little vignettes that set the end of the series. So many characters, so little point made.
At 65% more time is spent on Rocky's tie choices than his history with Asher. Still, no case. We got some totally superficial back story. Asher seems this perfect guy that is so one-dimensional it hurts. Rocky's only saving grace is he is pretty (I got sick of how many times we are told this. We got it!) He's making every mistake in the book on his very reluctant way to recovery. He's not talking! At all. His getting back together with Asher was bare bones. I know he's suffering from PTSD. I know. But he made it a year after the event - got back, found friends, started a job, a podcast, a community and did not talk to anyone?! How did that happen?
This series never worked for me and I don't care how it ends. I only want to see Asher kick his best friend's ass, but I'm not holding my breath about Rocky telling him anything about that. Another one bites the dust.

4-4.5 stars

I love this whole series! I was so excited to read Rockys story and it definitely didn’t disappoint!

Asher and Rocky are perfect together and I love how they lifted each other up when they needed support.

The main thing I wanted to see differently is probably the case they chose for their podcast. I was expecting more, but it felt like it was put on the back burner compared to the romance. I also was expecting more suspense from Duggie or the case they chose. I think Mr.Perfect had more action in it, so my expectations were high.

I really do love the whole true crime podcast aspect of this book since I love listening to true crime, as in everyday on my way to work I listen to “Morbid a true crime podcast” or “Crime Junkie”.

Overall I will miss this series but I know I will come back to it in the future since I really enjoyed all the books!

Another Amazing Book!

I adore this author's books. Her stories are among some of my favorites with a couple of them being comfort reads for me. (I will never get tired of Josh and Gabe.) I have to say that this one is up there as one that will get read again and again. I love Jonah and Felix and their boos but Rocky and Asher's story is my favorite one of this series. This was so beautiful! And Rocky's PTSD struggles were so well written, his pain just leaped off the page and broke my heart. Asher quickly won me over with his determination not to let Rocky get away. It takes two people to destroy or save a relationship and this book is a wonderfully well written example. The mystery our guys are trying to solve takes a back seat to their attemps to save their marriage. I would give this 10 stars if possible!!!!! I so strongly recommend this book and hope to see these guys appear in more stories in the future.

A- rating. I've loved this entire series and am so happy that the author said that while the series is complete, this won't be our last visit in Savannah.
